We came here for fish and chips. My friend was taking a walk down memory lane and brought us here. She grew up in the sechelt area and the last time she was back was 15 years ago. Obviously the name of the restaurant and chef had changed but the location was still the same. It was nostalgic for her to have fish and chips while looking out at the waters of Davis Bay. We decided to share the fish and chips and I quite liked it. The batter was crispy and the fish was fresh. The coleslaw had a curry taste? Not what I was used to. Service was great and it was a lovely afternoon with a great view. This is next to Coast hotel which is where I usually stay when in the Sunshine Coast. I always see it packed at night and there's a reason for that. I'll have to dine here again the next time I'm staying at the hotel. read more

Great location for views during spring/summer time, and maybe for a drink, but that's all it has going for it. While the menu looks enticing, the food execution is below average and can't be recommended. -- Fish and Chips: Cod was nicely sized, but bland. The fries were McDonald's shoestring style. -- Seafood Chowder: Oily and separated broth, eh pass. -- Kids Mac & Cheese: Lukewarm with shredded cheese topping that didn't melt. Decided to try Wobbly Canoe again, this time ordered take out. A burger and some ling cod bites. Told on the phone 20 minutes. Confirmed that amount of time and then they said 15 minutes. 15-20. So we arrived after 15 minutes and are STILL waiting, 40 minutes later! Terrible service. Never going back, would never recommend. read more

Nice restaurant with a beautiful view of Davis Bay. Service was good but be prepared to wait for your food. Rating would increase with a few improvements to the food: fresher fish (the fried cod for the burger had a strong fishy taste and needed a bit more seasoning), corn chips for the falafel plate were disappointing. Chips were very plain and slightly stale. If I he plate had come with toasted pita or pita chips it would have been lovely. The beef dip also needed a bit more meat. Came here twice in 1 week, not so much by choice but for lack of a better restaurant to eat at on a Sunday evening in Sechelt... Needless to say, the highlight of this place is its location -- you literally watch the sunset as you eat. And the good thing is that the patio umbrellas can be slanted to block most of the in-the-face sun. That aside, the menu is somewhat scant in options. I first tried the poke bowl, which was rather small and disappointing for its price. The second time around I got the sockeye main, which I actually quite liked with the roasted veggies...but it was $25. My friend got the "fresh" mussels and didn't think they were fresh (the waitress said they're all the way from PEI, which we couldn't quite understand considering we're right on the coast...). All that said, considering the limited options in this rural setting, I might still come back. read more

Been meaning to try here for awhile. Finally got around to it and we were not disappointed. A beautiful day, eating outside with an unbeatable view. has to be one of the best views anywhere. So on top of the amazing view, we were pleased with the food as well. the cod burger was amazing. But the poke bowl was even better. So good. Service was good as well. All in all a good experience. We would recommend and for sure have a return visit. read more

Was visiting from Vancouver over the weekend and we decided to try the wobbly canoe. We ended up ordering takeout because I called ahead to ask if they had room and whoever answered the phone said it was completely full with a long wait, and that we may not be able to be seated in time before close. However when we arrived about 25 mins later it was only about 1/3 full, so that was a bit annoying as I would have much preferred to eat there and take in the view. But because it's covid, they get a pass. I didn't know what to expect from the restaurant as reviews seemed mixed. It kind of reminded me of a Local inside, only with better food. I decided to order the cod burger with a Caesar salad. It was really good! I didn't even share it. Not too greasy, and not dry. My only complaint was that chickpea croutons on the salad weren't crispy. My boyfriend decided to be bold and get the Thai coconut curry. He said he enjoyed it. We also shared the cheesecake parfait. It was delicious. Super soft, (no bake cheesecake) it was quite decadent. If I was in Sechelt again I would definitely come back here and get a seat on the patio to enjoy the sunset. read more

This restaurant is right on the side of the road with a beautiful waterfront view. We sat at a table on the patio. The menu looked interesting so we were excited to order. Unfortunately, there were no fish substitutions for the chicken on the banh mi sandwich. We were promptly told which were the only vegetarian and pescatarian options. It still offered a decent variety, if a tad limited in choice. We chose the steamed mussels and roasted Brussels sprout tacos. The order seemed to take a long time to arrive but we were supplied with water throughout the wait. It probably would have been an easier wait if the sun had made an appearance. Once we got the food, we tucked in. The mussels were great to start with. They were fresh and delicious. The broth was tasty too. Unfortunately, as we go closer to the end, we hit an overpowering collection of fennel seeds. It was a shame as they really overwhelmed the remaining mussels and broth. The tacos were fantastic. The sprouts were roasted perfectly. I would definitely recommend those. From looking at the other tables, the fries looked really good too. Overall, despite the wait, it was a good experience, but would have liked more flexibility on menu substitutions to cater for vegetarians. read more

This was our second time to the Wobbly Canoe. It was pretty busy and we were seated outside. We had a friend visiting from out of town that we haven't seen in a while. We were seated directly below the outside speakers. The speakers were SO loud and we had to yell across the table, we asked the hostess to see if they could turn it down since we had kids and a baby with us. The music was never turned down.. we asked out server to see if they could turn it down and she replied "the manager is weird about the music being turned down". The music again was not turned down. Well I'm sorry manager but this isn't a bar in downtown Vancouver. We had to yell across the table during our entire meal. I had to go change my baby in the family bathroom. The music was cranked in the bathrooms as well and the change table was mounted extremely high on the wall where it was almost up to my chest and I'm 5'6. The food was good, but the manager needs to consider the customers experience as well. If the music was at a reasonable volume it would have been a great experience. read more

We came here for lunch while visiting Sechelt , it had been recommended by a client of mine and we were hungry! We are from Vancouver and eat out a lot. I used to be a waitress and my man used to be a chef so I wouldn't say we're picky but we notice things. We were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the environment & our feed. We had the crispy cauliflower to start which came with really yummy ketchup that had a Korean spice in it I can't remember the name of. My partner had the burger which he said was really good - the garlic mayo I sampled when I stole his fries was so good we asked for extra! I had the 4 tacos for $20, I had 1 of each flavour and because I'm gluten free I had the corn tortillas. All the tacos were fantastic and full of flavour. THERE WAS FRESH GUACAMOLE ON ALL OF THEM :D Ingredients were fresh, our server was attentive and nice, it was a great lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon :) read more

We really wanted to like this place. It was right on the waterfront and we planned weeks in advance to celebrate dad's 70th birthday. We called in to make a reservation because we have a large party (8 adults and 5 children) and was notified that they don't take reservation. When we arrived, we were informed by the hostess that the wait was an hour. We had no where else to go since we walked here from our Airbnb and said we were willing to wait. We stood aside and the hostess began seating other parties. My BIL spoke to the hostess again and said that since we had small children with us, we would gladly take any table that becomes available. They seated one group of 4 and then 15 minutes later, all 15 of us were seated at a large table outside. We couldn't understand why they initially wanted to refuse to seat us and tell us the wait was over an hour. That wasn't the worst part. We had hungry, cranky children with us so we ordered from the children's menu for them first. The server then came around taking our orders. Children's meals came about 45 minutes after we were seated and the appies and adult meals came at the hour mark. All the appies and meals came except for one. The server came back after we almost finished eating and ask if we had all our meals. My BIL said he was missing his roasted chicken and she asked him if he was sure and if he wasn't missing a steak. First of all, regardless whether he ordered chicken or steak, we almost finished our meals and his food was still not ready. Second, my BIL doesn't eat steak and would have never ordered steak and to accuse him of ordering steak is just unacceptable. She then went to go check with the kitchen and came back and asked if he still wanted his chicken. Of course he did and then she asked if he wanted it to eat there or to take out. He asked how long it would take and she snapped back that it would take a long time since the kitchen was backed up. Not even an apology and just bad attitude. The manager finally came out to apologize and we eventually got the chicken to take out after what seemed like forever. We realized that the Wobbly Canoe is a seasonal restaurant (only busy in the summer) and all employees/servers/kitchen staff/chefs are new hires that don't really care about returning customers. We definitely won't be returning and won't be recommending this restaurant. read more

A gastropub with a typical modern menu of poke bowl and fried cauliflower! We enjoyed the simplicity of the setting and quaintness of place! I had the Banh Mi chicken sandwich and my hubby had the Mediterranean bowl ! The service was lovely and they even carried our favourite Naramata wine! Since it was Valentine's Day lunchtime they threw in a couple of chocolates with the receipt! Oh the shoestring French fries require a special mention! We will go back ! read more

Beautiful space, menu has a lot a great options but there was a failure to execute on service and food on our most recent visit. Our server was very inattentive, made a few mistakes - which happens - but didn't even acknowledge any of them. A few notes on the food... Fish fritters tasted like they were pre-cooked and had simply been microwaved to warm. Totally overcooked, soggy yet chewy batter... Mussels had very little sauce for dipping and bread was barely toasted. I want to support this place and you cannot go wrong with the view... just hope a little more attention goes into the customer service and food preparation next visit!! read more

Loved the view and food was good, but why ask patrons to move? My husband & took my sister for lunch on beautiful May day, view was lovely and restaurant not very crowded...In fact there was lots of seating available inside. Garage doors were open since it was such a warm day so inside and outside seating wasn't much different although outside there's a better view. After we ordered and our drinks arrived the waitress approached us and asked if we would mind moving to another shared table outside since they had a large group coming in. (We initially had been seated at a shared table but the other people at our table had already left.) I said...'ok...are u going to comp our drinks?'...the waitress just giggled and started moving our drinks and our cutlery over to another table. Not that it was a huge inconvenience, but seriously...there was loads of space at the inside tables...why couldn't the large group sit there, or the least they could have done was to offer us Something for our trouble...I would have been happy with 1 free drink or a free dessert...just sayin'... read more

We are locals and visit the Wobbly Canoe often. The combination of great food, good service in a perfect seaside ambience is delightful. However, the wines by the glass are outrageously priced. A 9 oz GLASS of fume blanc is $18.50 plus tax and of course, tip. This is just gouging ! The BOTTLE is $15.99 in the liquor store. Suggest management gets 'real' with the wine and beer list list (tourist season isn't year round!) read more

The Sunshine Coast sets a very low bar for food quality, so it's almost a surprise when you get a good meal. The Wobbly Canoe is freshly renovated and looks great with an open look into the kitchen and a nice central bar. We shared a banh mi sandwich with fries and an aioli for dipping. Crispy chicken, sweet and sour pickle, fresh veggies and a good baguette. Nice balance and proper seasoning, which is also rare on the Coast. They have a good selection of macro and craft beer. The food on other tables looked good and people were digging into the desserts as well. Elaborate tattoos appear to be part of the company uniform, but that's hardly unusual for this neighbourhood. We will go back for more, soon. (What a relief to write a positive review.) read more

Good food but 45 minutes after ordering I was ready to gnaw on the wood table. They clearly were victims of their own success and we were told the kitchen had had some big orders come in. But that's not an excuse. The couple behind us waited so long that they were about to cancel their order but after some negotiation was completed the waitress brought the food. But a lot of clenched teeth and barely contained anger could be heard from that table. Poor people just trying to have a nice evening out. The fish and chips were good but those Kennebec fries were really special. The beef in my burger could have used a bit more salt but was obviously high quality. I had it in an iceberg lettuce "bun" instead of a bread one. A very nice view of the water across the street and outdoor seating in warm weather. Hope they do well enough in winter. read more

This gem is the first obvious place to stop for drinks once you've departed from Gibsons. Great patio (albeit a touch noisy from the Coastal Highway) with amazing views across the street of the beautiful Davis Bay coastline, far off island silhouettes and a (wobbly) looking pier. The service level here was outstanding, everyone was exceptionally helpful, smiling and genuinely happy to be serving the five of us. This included recommendations for everything from craft beers, meals and even places that 'locals' go to hang out for the beautiful sunsets and stellar hikes. They serve a handful of on tap craft beers from Strathcona and Persephone and a local cider from a place called Brikers, which happens to be on the far of Sechelt, BC. Red Stripe in the stubby bottles is also available! The food was great but the service of said food was a little on the slow side, I figured they are still working out the kinks of being relatively new. The place was pretty packed on the Friday afternoon of a long weekend, so I can imagine growing pans in this manner will work themselves out. The Coastal Poke Bowl (which you can get double seafood for only $6 more!!!) was the highlight of the table, two people had it and they just adored it. The Crab Legs were also a big hit and they are served vertically with garlic butter...you might not need a bib, but you'll need a crotch napkin to save yourself from wicked buttery shorts. The Porchetta sandwich was good but not great, it missed the mark slightly because the Pork was chopped to finely and it needed about double the Chimichurri sauce and Provolone Cheese. The side of fries was expertly cooked and the Garlic-Lime mayo was awesome. The patio has some some big tables to sit at, which is great for making neighbour friends. The tables umbrellas are adjustable (at angles) to help you hide from that sweet, sweet sun if you need that sort of protection. I will 100% be back here! read more

The wait time was rough (it was new years day though, so I can understand some hangovers). Ordered "The Burger" and was amazed at how delicious it is with the garlic sauce they include. Server was excellent and on top of everything. Wait time for food is the only thing that makes this 4/5. Also, someone I was with was upset the crab has gone (it was apparently an excellent deal). What a fantastic surprise. Work place me in a hotel just a few steps away and a coworker and I chose to make the short walk and were so glad we did! Food was impeccable and very high end, moderate pricing. I had crispy Brussels and a main order of Ramen bowl... These dishes were prepared to unbelievably high standards and the flavour matched. This is probably one of the few restaurants where if you go u better keep an eye on the waiter because u dont know what they will do. My experience was one for the ages, not one to complaint but there was more than one red flag during my service. First I was seated to the side where I could get a closer view of everything . I've eaten in so many different restaurants.and this place looked amazing,great.view,awesome ambience.but sad to say it was bad and I mean very bad food ..... if you have a good palate you will know that something's dont need to be made the way they are or cooked the way they are just so it looks good on a plate. You cant make art with food when it doesn't taste good. First of all my ginger ale had no fiźzed because I guess they didnt noticed that they ran out of c02.. which it happens all the time.. when I told the waitress about that she made a face and took it to he bartender which he immediately took a sip from the same cup that I was drinking without a straw to certified what I said was true or not... then he dumped my pop and went to the other side and pour new pop in the same cup , to give back to me... that's just DISGUSTING!!!.....when the waitress came back I told her that I was not going to drink from the same cup and she took it away gave me a new one an apologized....then I figured ok that's fine ...it happens... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they were not paying attention ... then I ordered a chowder...I love chowders.. I made chowders myself many times at home,even at restaurants and I have never seen a soup that is supposed to be so mildly rich and creamy have two things that throws the flavor off... salmon lox and basil oil.... if u want to make a soup stand out you put candy salmon or even salmon chunks not lox salmon that will waste the rawness and smokiness of the lox when it hits the hot soup and to make mattera worse the basil reduction oil changes and throws the whole dish off... it tasted smokey with a glutinous look of grey salmon hence the lox cooked on broth and bitter acidy flavor because their basil pesto is not even fresh but canned because u can taste the artificialness of it... strike two........ after that I was already regretting going there but I ordered as a second meal the porchetta sandwich which wàs a disgusting mess to all Italians all over the world and it was one of the worse sandwiches I have eaten in my life .... I understand that porchetta is expensive but if that's the case dont put it on your menu ..if u cant do it justice is like ordering a steak and asking it to be cook well done.... was a disgrace ....... when I got the dish it looks sooo good but once I took my first bite it had so much oil dripping out of it that I dirty up my shirt not with food bit stained all over with oil drippings almost like If i was frying.... to make matter worse they have put fresh local greens as lettuce and the poor things had so much grease that my lettuce were already wilted and cooked in this hot mess of a sandwich. To make matters worse the meat was all crumbled, when it's made fresh in house it doesn't crumble or it turns into a mess ....I picked around some of the meat and I noticed that I wasn't even that fresh I left more than half of the plate . I decided not to complaint because the place was packed and causing a scene would not of help the situation at anytime . I politely ate my words and paid almost 40$ for a meal for one person.... kinda pricey... the service was half decent but the food was horrendous ...maybe a bad service day but I wouldn't go back ever again ......to many wrongs to make a good impression the next time.... if your going to check this place out make up your own mind .
