Been wanting to try Beauty's for AWHILE now, and boy was it good! The Temescal location is open on weekends, but unfortunately the Downtown Oakland location is only open during weekdays! This Temescal location is really great. I got there around 11:30am and it was doing a good business. We didn't have to wait in line, but almost all of the seating was taken. We had a really helpful cashier who was quick to give answers when we asked what bagel to pair with what sandwich order (I always appreciate when waitstaff give their honest opinion!) We ended up ordering the Fried Chicken Sandwich on a Salt & Pepper Bagel and the Classic Sandwich Open-Faced on an Everything Bagel. Both sandwiches were great, and splitting both was a great balance. The fried chicken was especially good and crispy, the slaw is oh so good and is oh so pink!! Went for a leisurely breakfast and got the classic closed bagel with an 8oz orange juice. I did not realize 8oz was so little, but the orange juice was fresh squeezed and so good so I'm not complaining! I got my bagel toasted so it was warm when it came out, but then the bagel got a bit harder than I would have expected as I ate it. Maybe next time I won't get it toasted and that won't happen? Guess I'll find out when I inevitably go again next week! The cream cheese, smoked salmon, red onions, and capers were all perfect in my poppy seed bagel. I saw that their shakshuka is pretty famous and is only for dine-in and I really want to try that next time. Also want really want to try the classic bagel open-faced next time as well. Review is for the vegan cream cheese mostly, yuck. I'm VERY picky with vegan substitutions of things i used to eat a LOT. This "cream cheese" is more like a buttercream texture it even has a slight sweetness... I don't never even put jam on bagels. They are a savory indulgence for me. Very glad that I had also ordered some extra bagels because I had half a container of kite hill brand chive cream cheese at home! Service wise I asked for onion, spring mix, tomato, and cucumber. I got no spring mix. I'm aware the bagel itself is not vegan and the flavor/texture is OK, it's a bagel. Not my fave bagel tho. I did try one of my mom latkes those were yum but it's hard to mess up potatoes. Came here for brunch on a Sunday around 10am. The line was out the door, but not unreasonable. I only waited for about 15 minutes and the food came out pretty quickly after we ordered. Despite the small size of the venue, we were able to find seating outside - I definitely do not recommend this place for large groups since the tables can't seat more than 4 people at once. I can see why this place is so popular! The bagels are chewy and delicious - definitely worth coming out here. My favorite was the cinnamon raisin. The bagel sandwiches are pretty good too - we got the lox one and it was super flavorful and smokey. They also have omelettes here too! Great egg bagel sandwiches. The bagels themselves can be a little tougher than one might be used to. The pickles on the side of the sandwiches are delicious. This place can get pretty packed so be prepared to wait. I updated my review from 4 to 3 stars because after being here over a dozen times, I had a bad customer service experience. This shop is starting to feel like the employees see the paying customers as though they are privileged to order from the establishment. Not as able to carb out as much as I did in my 20s, so when I do carb out, I do so very, very, selectively. And OMG Beauty's is totally worth it. I don't know that much about bagels, but these definitely surpass anything I've had outside of NYC. For CA bagels these are solid. I wouldn't go in with the expectation of comparing them to anything on the east coast, because you'll be disappointed otherwise. One of the few places I've seen that serves chicken liver! Bagels can be burnt or stale, but overall decent. As others suggested, the bagels here are not vegan, they are cooked in honey. Maybe if you are a flexitarian or a bee-gan? I am not. I learned this, after patronizing their establishment for years (completely misled by the vegan schmears on their menu) when one morning, after ordering the cashier telling me that the dressing I selected for the salad had honey in it, and asking me if that was OK? I stated no, it was not and then she informed me that their bagels were also boiled in water with honey. I asked her if this was a new development, and she stated that it was not. She then asked me if I wanted to amend my order. I told her I regret having given them any business in the past. They have no idea about ethical retailing, I will never be back. I love a good ole' bagel with sausage, egg and cheese. This is one of the most popular places for bagels, they're actually advertised on the southwest magazine, the one you find on the planes when you fly southwest. I've always gotten the everything bagel, with chicken sausage, egg and cheddar. Every bit is like an explosion of flavor in your mouth, very juicy. It can get a little messy, oily, so be prepared. I'm usually not a huge fan of pickles, but the ones they give you are really good. I always ask for extras. You can't go wrong with a bagel here, it is a little pricey, but hey, that's Oakland. I tried the: garlic bagel w/ green onion cream cheese, everything bagel w/ tofu spread, and fried chicken sandwich with slaw on a garlic bagel. In general I felt the garlic bagel with just spread tasted more like burnt garlic and the texture was overly chewy (a pain to eat really). The real cheese and Tofu cheese spreads were a little grainy although I appreciated the green onion flavor. Finally the only winning combo here was the sandwich. I really really wanted to love this place. I have been craving Montreal bagel for a while and Beauty's has been on my list to visit. So on our trip to wine country, we made a quick stop to try the bagels. Unfortunately they did not meet my expectations for Montreal styled bagels. They are definitely sweeter compared to American bagels. However they are thicker and simply different. I ordered 1/2 dozen bagels and one toasted with butter. The person who packaged the bagels did not do a good job placing the bagels in the bag, because I could not put the bag down on the table without them falling over. I got distracted when my phone rang and 5/6 bagels fell on the floor because of this. The gentleman making the sandwiches saw what happened and didn't say anything... Was excited to try this place after reading reviews and seeing the long line at the shop. I got the classic (lox) and the fried chicken. My first thought into first biting into the lox was, "this bagel feels stale." It was super chewy and I got tired of chewing half way through half of the bagel. It was also said to be toasted but the bagel was not warm at all and did not have any crunch, something I would expect from a freshly toasted bagel. The fried chicken bagel was just as disappointing. This was my weekend spot when I lived in Oakland. Love how the bagels are wood oven made. The number of bagels I have gotten can not be counted, but always been a fan of the fried chicken or lox bagel. Their fried potatoes with aioli was a must each time. This place was highly recommended and we decided to try it out since we were in the area. It was definitely worth it. We started out with the classic with smoked salmon and it was delicious. Wish we got different sandwiches but we did get different bagels. It made a big difference in the flavor. The open faced version as filling and the spread made it even better. We got a few other bagels to go just to try out their different kinds. My fave by far would have to be the salt and pepper bagel. It kind of reminded me of a soft pretzel. It had a great texture as chew to it. I got the veggie spread with it and it definitely added another depth to the bagel. If you're ever in the area and want a nice and tasty bagel to start off your day I would highly recommend visiting this little slice of goodness. I will make stop here again when I'm near. read more

First time here and it was absolutely AMAZING!! Everything we had was delicious! I was worried about adding sausage because of "Jim E."'s review but I am so glad I did. First of all, the bagel breakfast sandwich is HUGE! I decided to try the salt and pepper bagel and it was perfection. I added sausage and it just made it that much better! Things to know: Super busy on Sunday morning... we drove by at 10 and the line was out the door so we went shopping and came back at noon and it was much better. We had to wait a total of five minutes in line and ten minutes for two sandwiches and two specialty coffee drinks. We got a latte (so good) and the Aztec Mocha (very spicy!) The key is to slice the bagels in half and put them in a freezer safe ziplock bag, and freeze them. When you're ready to eat them later, just toast it in the oven. Voila. There will be a line, and it is busy. People move fast. Get the vanilla latte too, delicious! Chewing this bagel is also a great workout for your mouth. Why even have "wood fired bagels" on the packaging if they're not wood fired anymore?
