Well, it's obviously a place for beer and not for food. My roommate and I were excited to go but left disappointed and $50 poorer. Arrived at 6pm and it was already busy. We were asked to write our name on a chalkboard to reserve a table and also list our favorite TV show. It felt like a weird corporate icebreaker activity. Also, it was already crazy at 545pm so get here early if you don't want to wait! We ordered a few things off the menu. Everything was pretty bland or too salty: - Spicy Korean Brussels Sprouts - pretty salty but pretty spicy. This was my favorite dish! However, I think it would have been better to use less marinade since it all pooled awkwardly at the bottom of the bowl and made the brussels sprouts soggy. - Mac & Cheese - All milk and no cheese makes for a sad dish. It came out looking like my cooking attempts from age 12. I think too much milk was added because it was pooled at the bottom. It resembled pasta flavored cereal. - Parmesan Fries - Slightly burnt but they're fries so I'll eat them. Came with weird watery salsa instead of ketchup. I wanted to ask for ketchup but it was impossible to track down our waitress. - Coleslaw - "How does something with this much vinegar taste so bland?", said my roommate out loud as he was picking away at it. It was purple and white so that looked pretty cool! - Grilled Cheese - Somehow managed to taste pretty bland despite have three kinds of cheeses. The bread was good, although that's purchased from Somerville Bread Company so I'm not giving WBC credit for that. The beer was good so go for that and food pregame somewhere else. read more

This place has quickly made my new neighborhood feel like home. The staff is what really makes this place shine, they are attentive and easy going and always kind. The food is also fantastic (highly recommend the fried chicken sandwich when it's on the menu) and their beer selection is top notch. Winter Hill Brewing is a new neighborhood staple for Somerville. If you haven't already, you should give it a try. I've been for morning coffee (strong and delicious) and scones (daily selections like butterscotch, maple bacon, chocolate orange, and blueberry), and beer/food. The beers are brewed on site and are clearly high-quality and tasty, and the food is just what you want from this kind of place. Try the spicy Korean brussel sprouts, fries, and grilled cheese. I'll definitely go back, especially when the patio opens in the spring/summer. read more

We visited last night for the first time and I'm so glad to have this addition to Somerville. I had a Russian Imperial Stout that was delicious along with panzanella salad and rosemary fries to munch on. The staff are super friendly and the service is attentive. Stopped here while visiting friends in Boston this past weekend. Beer was great and atmosphere was awesome! Great service and great menu as well. Plus they have crowlers! Nice spot, outside deck for when the weather is nice. Small parking lot, which was a pleasant surprise. Coffee service winds down midday when beer service kicks in. My girlfriend and I come here for Coffee/Lattes often and it is always good. Scones are actually really good too. Wish they had breakfast sandwiches but they are just starting up so maybe in the future. Have not been later in the day for food or beer but always looks busy when I walk by after work. I am not really a beer drinker at all so when I went to Winter Hill I was not excepting to drink much. But the beer is probably some of the best I have ever tasted. I tried half pints of all the brews on tap , the IPA and the stout were my favorite. I was surprised now much I liked them all. I also tried the Brussel Sprout and fried pickles appetizers both were fantastic. If you like Brussels I would recommend getting them , they are very tasty. Great sandwiches as well. Located in a modern/ industrial space , great addition to the Neighborhood. Also serve coffee and morning pastries. Great place to grab coffee in the morning or knock back a few after work. 1) They don't have a telephone. Which makes it difficult to ask questions like "would my dog be allowed if we order a coffee?" (answer: no) 2) Their hours suck. They serve coffee until 1pm, except on weekends, when it's noon. When is a great time to head out of the house for a pick-me-up in the afternoon? 2pm. (And you can't tell me I'm the only one who loses energy around 2 or 3pm.) 3) Their coffee isn't actually good. Maybe it'll get better as we go along, but as someone who was there on opening day and has sporadically visited since, their coffee is SOUR. I put a lot of milk and sugar, and still the only flavor is sour. Ew. I stick to the, more expensive, espresso drinks, because they don't suck. 4) They have never advertised within the local area. They had a "soft opening", which means they opened the doors and you had to luck out and see someone exiting the building with a coffee. They have NEVER had an "we're open!" sign up. Which is bullshit. Advertise in the neighborhood you live in. Cafes live or die on walk-in business. 5) I hear their beer is ok. But either be a brewery and stick to it, or learn how to run a cafe. Because they are fucking up their cafe. And it means that I tell literally every single person I meet to not waste their time supporting them. The sooner they're out of there, the sooner my neighborhood can get a cafe that actually gives a shit about running a cafe. read more

Swung by this place today on our way into Boston for a wedding. Pleasantly surprised to say the least. The service was fast and staff friendly and knowledgeable, recommending a delicious house ale for me and a hoppy IPA for my beer snob brother, which he loved. There were some scones leftover from the morning coffee service, which they let us sample on the house. Definitely will come back here for dinner at some point as the food menu looks really solid. I love this brewery. At the time I write this review the business is about a year old. They are constantly updating the decor, menu offerings, and beer selection. It's great to see a business grow and perfect over time. The outdoor seating is great in the warmer months. The bar is super approachable. For the best experience, you should snag a seat at the bar early and sample all the drafts (they come in sample sizes or full pours). The chair seating is better for groups and families. It's definitely a kid friendly place. The beer selection is always changing, with an emphasis on IPAs. The house ale is a constant and has yet to disappoint. Plus, you can get it in a pitcher which is so convenient for groups. The bartender Max provides quick service with wit and a smile, even when they are packed. The food is great. The cuban, the spicy brussel sprouts, winter hill chilli, kale salad, and mac n cheese are all reliably delicious. You can get greens on the side instead of fries, which is always a win for me. Was in the neighborhood helping a friend move in and wandered in to this place covered in paint. Pitcher of good beer at a reasonable price and 2 great sandwiches, the Cubano and the grilled cheese. Cole slaw was some of the best restaurant prepared I've had as well. I'll be back. read more
