This is such a cute little pie shop. It's more of a grab and go spot as there isn't much inside seating beside two stools at the bar, but none the less the service and food was great. We got some of their seasonal latte's - the churro iced latte and the iced banana latte. Both were amazing and had so much flavor. We also got some chocolate and cherry pie bites and they were supper yummy, I just wished they were warmed ups. The service was also amazing, and one of the employees offered us a complementary drink to try out! It was an iced hibiscus tea and it was so refreshing and delicious. First off, I typically bake my own pies, but I was having dinner in the area and thought, "why not." I ordered cherry and my boyfriend ordered the chocolate. The crust was thin, over mixed, and burned. The filling tasted like prune and had no depth to the cherry flavor. Disappointing. I tried the chocolate crust and that was tasty. So very glad we could have our very own Winston Pies location in The Valley and not have to drive all the way to 3rd Street if we have a pie craving. This location is located in The Shops at Sportsman's Lodge which is a fairly new shopping center built on Sportsman's Lodge property. Parking is free for a limited time and I haven't had an issue finding an available spot. The guy manning the shop was great, knows what they have and is patient. Unfortunately, the traditional Apple Pie I chose and took to someone's party wasn't as good as other Winston pies I've had in the past. The crust was dense and the apple filling was firmly on the tart spectrum making me wish I brought ice cream too. There are plenty of chairs and tables in front of the shop for you to enjoy your pie if you choose to eat here. There's even an ice cream shop next door so you can turn your pie a la mode. read more

We preordered two slices of apple pie and one pecan pie slice with a pint of vanilla ice cream. The pint is from McConnells ice cream, which was awesome. My dad is an avid pecan pie taster and he said this is the best pecan pie he has ever had. He also loved the crust on the apple pie. The team was eager to get us our preorder and we will certainly be back. It's a super cute shop that also sells coffee drinks. The parking situation is a bit of a mess, especially if you go on a Sunday night like we did. I heard this place has authentic Key Lime Pie, my favorite, so we decided to stop by and grab a slice. The slices are really expensive for pie - it was $20 for two pieces. My husband got the cherry pie and I got the key lime, minus the whipped cream, which was an extra dollar and wouldn't have traveled very well anyway. I liked my bite of my husband's cherry pie even though I don't normally like shortcrust pies. My husband did not like his pie at all though. The same situation happened with the key lime. This is definitely not authentic key lime pie. The crust is not graham cracker, rather a type of speculoos cookie which does not pair with a tart lime curd at all. I had a few bites of the curd which has a good consistency but the flavor is off as well. If only we had eaten our pies at the same time we could've switched slices I guess. Everything looked good in-store. We tried 2 mini pies: the chocolate cowgirl and harvest cherry. The experience was mixed. The good: The chocolate was delicious. Gooey and chocolate-ey with a great crust. This is a good pie, despite being overpriced. The bad: In general, cherry pie is hands-down my favorite, and I've never met a cherry pie I didn't like - from fancy harvest pies with plump natural cherries to a $.99 hand pie from a gas station - until today. The cherry pie from Winston pies was awful. The filling was watery and flavorless. The cherries were sad. Shriveled and soggy and also flavorless. The crust was alright, but I can honestly say this was the worst cherry pie I have ever had. Seriously. The ugly: We paid $26 for 2 small mini pies. You can get very good mini pies (about the same size) from the bakery at Gelson's around the corner for less than half price. The pie at any restaurant in the area is better than this place, for far lower prices. If you're already stopping by erewhon for some green juice before your workout at equinox then maybe the pricing isn't an issue for you, but if you are at all price conscious then you'll get better pie for a much better deal pretty much anywhere else. If the pies were great then the price would be more understandable, but nothing about Winston Pies hit the mark for us. read more

We started making pilgrimages to Winston on 3rd a few years ago, their pies were spectacular and worth the 45 minute drive. Best pie in L.A! Hadn't been in a while, so we couldn't have been happier to see that they opened a new location on Coldwater, much closer,and made a plan to try it. However, I was surprised to see that their 5 star reviews had been replaced by a LOT of one star reviews! Strange, wasn't sure what the deal was. But we decided to judge for ourselves, and went to Winston to get a piece of our favorite apple pie. At first bite there was a HUGE difference.The formerly perfectly cooked chunks of apple had been replaced by what was essentially applesauce, and the crispy, buttery crust was soggy and limp. No doubt sitting in the case for a few days, the place was deserted. What happened?? I googled ,asking exactly that, and it turns out that they decided that instead of quality, Winston wants quantity. Trying to open multiple locations and not really worrying about how their pies taste, apparently. 2 locations already closed, but I have read that they want more locations! I can only assume that at one time the owner was proud of her pies, as she should have been. What a tragedy to forget what made you want to open a pie shop in the first place, just to have more locations turning out expensive and mediocre pies. What I love is that you can order small personal pies and the options are endless. The location is perfect a small shop but plenty of outdoor seating with ample parking around the area. The holidays = pies! And specifically, pumpkin and pecan pie, which Winston Pies had both! The pecan pie was phenomenal! Buttery, rich and so good! The pumpkin...it didn't really match my taste buds to the tee but doesn't mean that it was bad. I liked it but I've had better. My favorite though was the chocolate. That one was OMG. The Studio City location is very sleek and modern; the navy blue with gold and natural wood decor/signage make the pie shop feel elegant and upscale. And the glass cases sparkle with the promise of delicious, fresh pies. I loved the modern branding and how they packaged the products. You could walk into any dinner party or housewarming with their boxed pie and feel great about your gift. From a design standpoint, Winston Pies gets five stars from me. I wish I loved the actual pies as much as I love their branding. We purchased two of the mini pies, Carolina Classic Cherry and Mixed Berry Crumble (which was GFV) to try onsite. We almost bought the Chocolate Cowgirl and, based on its many 5-star reviews, maybe we just chose the wrong pie flavors. I was raised in south Georgia, so I had high expectations that these North Carolina pies would taste like home. But they were too heavy and too dry for my taste. The crust was very thick and dense, not flaky. It felt strange having to saw through pie crust with my plastic fork. The crust flavor was also not my favorite; it tasted like there was no salt in the dough. The fruit filling in both pies was thick and abundant but very dry. And, again, on the bland side. The berries fell away from the fork with each bite, as there wasn't enough filling to hold them. If I was eating the mini pies at home, I would have heated them both and drowned them in vanilla ice cream to enhance the texture and flavor. I don't like to give up on a business-- especially when the branding is so fabulous-- so I will probably go back and try the Chocolate Cowgirl. Let me start with the good: The chocolate pie is TO DIE FOR. Amazing beyond amazing. If this review were just for that, it would be five stars. However, the not-so-good is that the other pies we got weren't that good. As in nobody at our house even finished their slice. The apple was underwhelming and the cookie dough was underwhelming. I mean, if you're going to be a store dedicated to pies, I'd think you'd really want to nail the apple pie! This place was disappointing and ultimately unsafe. We arrived today with the door locked and a sign that they would be back in 10 minutes. More than 10 minutes later, the employee unlocked the door. My husband and I entered together, clearly together and my husband ordered first, a peach and blackberry raspberry pie. The employee asked if that would be all, which was odd since we are a couple, albeit a mixed race same sex couple, but we were clearly together. I ordered the cherry pie. We sat in their lobby to eat and when I opened my little pie box, which was very hard to open, the vibe I get is that they want you to take it home and not stay, I noticed that my pie was apple and not cherry. I went up to the counter and told the employee that I got the wrong pie. He then regaled me with 5 or 6 "my bad's" and then gave me the correct pie. I could not finish it, the pie was awful. Tasteless cherry and chewy crust. My husband had a different issue with his pie. He found some sort of non-organic item in the pie, like netting that is maybe used as a sack for holding fruit. Not sure, but he also stopped eating. My husband spoke to the employee and there were more empty apologies. A refund would have been more appropriate at that point. We came across this place yesterday as we were looking for a dessert shop. They have a bunch of different yummy pies and sizes too. You can do whole pies, slices or mini pies. The store is brightly lit, nice simple and clean setup. You can see each flavor with sizes displayed separately. It's hard to choose with so many yummy looking pies but the workers were nice and helpful. We ended up getting a few to try: chocolate, pecan and summer berry, we got some slices and some mini pie. Each flavor was so good. Each flavor tasted fresh and of good ingredients. I think this is my new favorite pie place, can't wait to go back! read more
