Whoa! Amazing French Bakery, with real french people!…read more Amazing little bakery with some of the best baguettes I've had in a while. We ate here twice in 1 week because my girls love their fresh bread (especially from French bakeries). It's a very humble joint with solid breakfast selection. Super nice staff. The coffee bar is also top notch. This place is only 5 minutes from Universal Studios and parking was pretty easy. This is our go-to breakfast spot before hitting the theme park.

Been wanting to try this place for a while and my son said he did as well, so we made a lunch date…read moreout of it today. It's kind of off the beaten path, where Ventura becomes Cahuenga. Near Barham and on the way to Hollywood. They have a few metered parking spots out front, but I went in and asked if they had their own parking and Mehdi told me they had a couple of spots in the alley behind the building, so that's where we parked. It's a cute place, not too fancy. They refer to it as a Boutique Pastry Shop. There are some snacks/knick knacks available for purchase, along with a refrigerator of drinks towards the back. The left side of the space is the coffee bar and the right side has the pastry cases and food menus. This is where we placed our order with Mehdi, who was pleasant, nice and knowledgeable about the menu and all the pastry items. I was talking to another employee, Gabriel, and asking him questions about the omelettes. He talked me through a few different options and he was also pleasant and kind. I decided on the Veggie Omelette (add mozzarella +$2, and side baguette +$1) with a Decaf Latte (+$0.75 for Oat Milk). My son ordered the Chicken Caprese Panini, which came with Pesto and Mozzarella Cheese. ($17). We also wanted to sample some pastries and we got 1 Nutella Beignet ($5.50), 1 Caribbean & 1 Red Carpet ($8 each), 1 Pear/Almond Tart and 1 Raspberry Tart ($6.50 each). Our total for everything including tip was $91.59, and I'm still kind of in shock over it! This place was SO EXPENSIVE!! Mehdi plated our pastries for us and Gabriel immediately got to work on the omelette and panini. We sat down at one of their many tables and got situated while we waited for the food. It was pretty empty as we were there around 3pm, an hour before they closed. There were two other tables being occupied while we were there. They had nice pop music playing, ranging from 90s-00s songs and artists. There were some nice twinkly lights above us along with the regular lighting of the restaurant. The space was also very clean, but I noticed some wear and tear on the tables/chairs. Once Mehdi brought our food out, we got to eating. My omelette also came with a small side salad with balsamic vinaigrette and some potatoes. I think everything tasted good, especially the omelette, but the potatoes were a bit too greasy for my taste. I also think the portion size was too small for the price. This statement goes for everything we ordered. It was all extremely overpriced for the portions they're offering. My son said his panini was just mediocre and bland. He opened it and added a bunch of salt to it. It was also very skimpy on the chicken, about 4-5 tiny slices inside. Moving onto the pastries, the Pear/Almond was my favorite. It wasn't overly sweet (actually, none of the pastries were), which is what I prefer. It was very delicate and tasty. I also had a bite of the Caribbean which was delicious. They went well with my latte, which tasted very good. I will be trying the rest later. My son had a bite of everything and liked the Caribbean and the Nutella Beignet, saying the rest were just average. I didn't use the restroom but my son did and said it was spotless clean, stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and room spray. The trash was empty, floors and counters were clean. They have one men's and one women's restroom and it's spacious. They began closing down the place about 5 minutes after we finished our bites and nibbling. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience by any means, but I don't think I'll be rushing here anytime soon to try it again. It was just outrageously expensive for what it was. I understand the cost of ingredients, labor, etc it takes to produce pastries and viennoiserie, but I just don't think the quality matched the prices. Just my opinion. I would say the service was great, both Gabriel and Mehdi are great employees! I may or may not come back. We'll see.

So we decided to book and eat here for my birthday. I ordered the meatloaf and explained to my waitress that I had a mushroom allergy, and to please make sure that they took the mushrooms off. They brought my food out and after a 2 bites, I noticed that they were mushrooms. My husband immediately got somebody, and they hurried up and remade it. Again, I get maybe halfway through my meal and tasted something, spit it out and again it was mushrooms. I looked through my meal again, and found two small mushrooms. At this point, I just refuse to eat it anymore, notified our waitress. When I returned back to my hotel room, I had to take Benadryl as I started breaking out in hives.. the only thing that the establishment did was Credit my dish and give me a dessert which I was no longer hungry at that point! I had already started to feel sick! I took one bite! I can kind of understand the mistake the first time, but if someone has an allergy, they should definitely make sure that they don't even screwed up the first time. The fact that they screwed it up a second time is completely unacceptable, especially since it was my birthday and it ruined everything. The whole meal should've been comped not just my meal and a free dessert! The fact that I had to come back and take Medicine and deal with hives on my birthday is just completely upsetting! No, I would not come back and no, I would not want to give them another chance, especially with having an allergy! I would, however, like to be refunded what I paid into this evening! We've ate at the Orlando one and I can't tell you what a huge difference in customer service it was! I would not recommend this establishment, especially if you have an allergy.

The Line Told Me Everything I Needed to Know…read more Stumbled upon this spot after nearby Japanese BBQ, and what immediately caught my attention was the line -- probably around 20 people deep. Naturally, I asked a random customer what all the hype was about, and they told me this place was famous for their croissant pastries. Well... next thing you know, I'm standing in line too after a very full lunch. I ended up trying the Chocolate Almond Croissant for $6.50, and let me tell you something -- I am a HUGE croissant girlie. While I'm not normally the biggest chocolate person, Spain and Portugal recently changed my perspective on dark chocolate, and apparently now I'm in my dark chocolate era. And honestly? This croissant was BETTER than the super popular pastry we had in Barcelona, Spain. The chocolate wasn't overpowering at all -- it had the perfect amount of dark sweetness without being too rich. But the real surprise was the almond filling layered at the bottom. Oh my gosh... chef's kiss. Nutty, creamy, not overly sweet, and perfectly balanced. Chocolate Almond Croissant -- 9.2/10 I can only imagine how life-changing this would taste fresh out of the oven piping hot. Service was fast despite the line moving constantly, but just know there's no indoor seating. It's very much an order, pick up, and go type of spot. Ambiance was welcoming and super friendly gals. I am recovering from a leg injury, and really wanted the great kale quinoa salad. Since walking is quite difficult at the moment, I decided to place a delivery order. It took a while, but the salad was finally delivered, but when I opened the package I was surprised by the look of the salad. It seemed to have a topping of bread crumbs, but upon inspection I saw that it was a small little dump of quinoa. Hmmm, usually there are lovely shavings of Parmesan, but nope. There was a smidge of Parmesan, not the usual amount. But the real failure was the missing sunflower seeds! Whaaaat???!!! I paid $27 for a bunch of kale and lettuce with a couple tbs of quinoa and a few Parmesan shavings?! I called just to see how they would handle the situation. First I was hung up on, before speaking. Then I was put through to catering though I pushed #6, the general number choice. I was then transferred to someone else (not sure which dept) and I explained about the missing sunflower seeds. After checking with the kitchen he confirmed that yep, they ran out of sunflower seeds. He said I could get $.50 refund, and he would transfer me to another number. The phone rang for several minutes but no one picked up. My painkiller turned me into a total "Karen", because I expected so much more from a favorite place. Oh, well, there are other places. Though that kale quinoa salad is really good when it works. Just don't trust their delivery.
