This place has definitely fallen off since its heyday in the early 1990s. I came here the other night because I was craving wings and I live in the neighborhood and was hoping I would get some good fare here. Meh, meh, meh! The wings were dry and tasted old. I also felt like the food was going south after hitting my stomach. The grilled veggies are nothing but a frozen mix that tasted like it was sitting in boiled water then lightly grilled to give the "effect" of grilled marks. Major loss of points for that. I am so disappointed in this restaurant. Today they made a deliver to my job. A patient left her phone on the counter top and the guy swipe the phone right off. when i called back i told them we had his delivery guy on camera stealing a patient phone. he brought the phone back and told us he found it in the street. gee, brian, it seems like you're giving out stars like beads along bourbon street. well, dear reader, i'm in a rate-those-places-you-like type of mood. i'm sure one of these days i'll get around to rating that p.o.s. home decorator shop that gave us crap blinds. then you'll see some empty stars. let me begin my review by painting you a picture of how we came to finally order from the wagon. my wife and i are members of the crunch across the street. back before it was a crunch (and before they had a downstairs cardio center) the gym only had treadmills along the windows upstairs. my wife and i would do our run and always comment on how many people would filter through wing wagon. "that place is never empty" and "that place looks like such a dump" were two of the most commonly uttered phrases between us when we would finish our run. so one day, we happened to mention to a friend from atlanta where we lived and without hesitating she said, "near wing wagon?!?!?" uh, sure. "the best wings i've had since moving from atlanta are at wing wagon." hook, line and sinker. to this day, our two lines remain true: the place is never empty (+1) and the place is a complete dump (+1). yes that's a star for being a complete dump. all their profit goes into r&d and not buying pretty napkin holders for the tables. the wagon is the type of place that is never more than three or four choices down the list when thinking of where to order from that night. the wagon is the type of place that you can cut your order down to just the essential words and they still get it right - "two dozen, extra spicy." i mean they know i'm calling for wings and the rest is just standard issue in my book. i can be on the phone for less than ten seconds and my order is golden (+1). and you have to give out a star for a place that makes you hungry enough to want to place an order simply by typing up a review (+1). they use plastic baggies for their celery and carrots. that profit has to be going back into r&d! they're consistent as consistent can be (+1) and that says a lot. no matter the season, no matter the rush, no matter who is playing in the super bowl, the wings always taste the same. i need a place i can depend on. so we're all math geniuses. 1+1+1+1+1 = 5. but why only four stars? location, location, location. wing wagon is located across from my gym. that means after a hard workout of burning off calories, i walk out the door and the first thought to enter my mind isn't just food, it's greasy, fattening, finger-licking-good food. yeah, we craved wings tonight. yeah, we called wing wagon. yeah, we got an order delivered - Garlic Parmesan (uber-delish) and BBQ (just right, not too sweet). yeah, we drank a bottle of wine (shut up, I know beer would have been better with wings). yeah, we'll order again -- because the place is just what it says it is: a WAGON OF WINGS. The manager is EXTREMELY rude. He yelled at me over the phone because he claimed I was " taking too long to tell him my order" because he had a whole line of people waiting to order. I didn't complain when he put me on hold on and off for 5 minutes BEFORE he even asked for my address ! If you are so busy and you're offering delivery services.. HIRE someone to take phone orders! This has happened more than once and this was the LAST STRAW! My family and I have ordered from there for years but today they lost some customers. I remember as a kid my buddy Joel put me on to this place, being that he lived right around the corner. We used to go here all the damn time and eat until we were about to pass out. Now fast forward many years later (not that many though!) and these wings are still the bomb. They taste the same as when my little 14 year old self had them for the first time. They're basic buffalo wings, but just great! Have a slice of the carrot cake here as well and you'll be right on the money. This is my all time favorite place. Pedro/Pete, the owner, is a really nice guy and remembers his customers. I absolutely love the Hot Garlic Parm sauce, but it can be too spicy for me, so I usually ask for Medium Garlic Parm, extra Parm. Yes, the wings are small. Yes, the prices have gone up over the years. Yes, they are cash only. I usually get the medium or honey BBQ sauce. I do like the fact that if you ask for you wings crispy or extra crispy, you actually get crispy or extra crispy wings. I hate places where the wings are barely cooked and then drowned in sauce to make everything wet. There has to be some crispiness to the wing. At wing wagon, you will get that. And I give the owners and the girls that work there credit because some of the clientele can be rather difficult (i love my ppl but damn y'all) but they handle the customers with grace. Great wings, but they won't deliver past Washington Ave after dark! I'm between Classon and Franklin, which is far from dodgy or dangerous after dark. That might have been true 5 years ago, but not now. I called at 4:30 in January (still plenty of daylight), and the guy acted like it was a big deal to deliver here. It's completely ridiculous. I've been going to Wing Wagon for YEARS and will keep going for as long as they're there! LOVE IT! The best wings in Brooklyn hands down! Friendly staff and decent prices. Very happy to see that they've weathered the "times" considering the economic downfalls so many business in the area have suffered as a result of "eminent domain," etc. Wing Wagon has held on and continues to "ride the wave!" I've ordered from here numerous time over the past 6 or 7 months and every time the wings hit the spot. I prefer the XXX, I love hot stuff, and the XXX is the perfect balance between flavor and spice. I've had a few other menu items and those are so-so. It is called Wing Wagon, not Burger Barn. If you're craving good, and affordable wings this place will do. My advice on getting a good experience; Don't order during busy hours, and call ahead to pick it up.
