Man, I moved away a while ago and I still haven't found any indian food as good as Wing Express. I love this place- it's the standard to which I compare all other restaurants. The rice is fragrant, the servings large, the spice strong. I love it. I know I should save some for later, but no. every time I must. eat. the. whole. thing. Wow. This is the second time I've ordered from here and I don't know why I did. I left a review that time and I will again tonight. Made the order online for their wings, fries, and drink combo. Called after an hour to make sure they were on the way. They asked me for my order and I said wings and they said "yeah, driver is on their way right now." ....an hour later I get a call from the driver saying they'll be outside in a minute. I come outside, and he doesn't even bother getting out of his car, just rolls down the passenger side window. I made sure that every part of my order was there, because I made the mistake before, and I noticed that my drink wasn't there. I let him know and he said, you didn't order a drink. I said yes, please look at the receipt. He says, "oh yeah. It's in the bag." I said "look for yourself." He rummaged in a bag that contained exactly one styrofoam takeout container and four ketchup packets. The order had been $10.50 and I had said that I wanted 7 back out of a $20. I said, since you don't have my drink, i'm asking for $9 back. He then let me know that the drink is $1, so he'll just give me back $8. I look at him incredulously, and say "this order is an hour late, you forgot part of my order, and you're giving me attitude. Give me $9 back or you won't be getting even the dollar tip." he takes out his wad of cash and counts ever so slowly $8. After everything, he gives me these $8. Now, i'm still leaning on the window, and I count the bills out loud. At this point, it's one dollar. I'm not wasting any more of my time and energy on this schmuck. i let him know that i will be calling the restaurant, and telling them what horrible service they provided, and that i would let yelp know too. Half of what makes a restaurant good is the service. And let me mention the horrible state the wings I ordered were in. soggy fries, half breaded/crumbing chicken, overcooked, and not enough buffalo sauce - just enough to tint the chicken orange. fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, and wow, i couldn't be a bigger idiot but I'm letting the internet know too. read more

Superior in every way, shape and form to Wings Over Storrs. If you like real buffalo wings, this is your place. Don't be turned away by the fact that Wings Express is actually an Indian take out place too... I dont care if they're from freakin' Mars, they still make excellent wings. There aren't quite as many flavor choices, but what they do have is superb. Many levels of hot, and an awesome honey barbecue that's still pleasantly spicy. Above all, they don't bread their wings like those wannabes at Wings Over Storrs... Correctly crispy-fried wings require no augmentation! Holy Moses I've found the mecca of food in Storrs. I was craving wings, and after looking at the menu I started craving the Indian. Now, ordering Indian food from a place called "Wings Express" seems kind of, well, unusual, and I was skeptical, but these people are serious about their food. The chicken vindaloo was the absolute best I have EVER had. EVER. I also ordered some lassi, which I'll be downing later and I'm sure it'll be delicious. But the spicy vindaloo? Brilliant. Amazing. So, for being out in NE CT this place is not bad. But I've had better Indian, and not too far a drive from here. Chicken curry and lamb biryani were ok. Not bad, not memorable. The naan was tiny, mitten-sized and had the texture of microwaved bread. The pappadum had a decidedly fried-chicken aftertaste - maybe they use the same oil as for their wings? I might get food here again, when I don't take the time to cook but don't want the easy grinders/pizza/fast food. But I probable would drive the 25 minutes in to Vernon/Manchester for better. read more

We moved to the area last summer, and first ate at this place with some friends, who described it as having zero ambience, but amazing food. That description was pretty much spot on. Don't be turned off by the strip mall location, the fluorescent lighting, or the TVs and neon signage. The food here is excellent, and we've never been disappointed. The wings are great; we've tried the Buffalo, teriyaki, sweet and sour, and BBQ flavors. I like them a little bit crispier than they're served, but I find them even better leftover after they've spent a night in the fridge. The Indian food is amazing. The rice is fragrant, and even though the dishes themselves are pretty much indistinguishable by color, each dish has a very unique seasoning and flavor. I love the mango chicken, and my husband, who is vegetarian, loves the malai kofta. The nice thing about this place is that we can order a bunch of veggie dishes for the family to share, while the carnivores are happy with a side of wings. The garlic naan is nice, and the mango lassis are sweet and tangy. It can get crowded, so we usually order ahead. read more

Awful. My order took 1.5 hours to be delivered. Not only is that completely unacceptable, but my order was atrocious. I'm not one to give bad reviews, but this place needs a big wake up call. I ordered 32 boned hot wings, a large cajun fry, and two sodas. These wings were spot on the Tyson wings you buy at the grocery store. With the 32 wings we ordered, we were given TWO pieces of carrot and TWO pieces of celery IN A ZIPLOC BRAND BAG. The same ziploc sandwich bags I get from price chopper. The fries look like they were thawed out, they were soggy and there were a few different types of fries in too, that doesn't really matter. Apparently this place specializes in Indian food. With the bad: delivery. This is semi-fast food. I've ordered once and it took much longer than I thought. Therefore, picking up is the best way to order on the phone. A lot of people take this advice it seems based off the volume of orders I see getting picked up. Most of the Indian food I've eaten here were surprisingly very good. I'm not a fan of their wings however, so it cringes me when I see people coming in asking for their American dishes. Lastly, if you want to leave feeling full, then this is a good place. Despite how small the containers look for most Indian dishes, they really contain a lot of food. I've been here multiple times this summer as well as last year. Pros: Good northern Indian food, convenient to UConn. Large portion sizes, not cheap, but good value for the area. Online ordering and delivery with accurate time estimate. All of the veggie dishes I've tried have been good, but my fave is the Nav-Rattan Korma. The few meat dishes we've tried have been good too, but can't remember exactly what we got. Basically, I'm very thankful this place exists. Cons: OK wings, Indian food 50% too salty for my tastes (and a leading reason why I don't eat here more often), disappointing store-bought-esque naan, very college divey dine-in experience. And while the food is good (I'm not Indian but have eaten at plenty of Indian places in the US), it's nothing to write home about and I wouldn't go out of my way to come here if I didn't live in the area. read more

This food is to die for. I used to eat regularly @ Wing Express in the early '90s when it first opened on campus and man it would hit those taste buds. The best food ever I had @ Storrs. The chicken wings were just spciy and right, lip smacking good...and the Indian food, the chicken vindaloo - I swear I have never eaten anything better than that ever yet. I was back again over the weekend checking out the UConn game after almost a couple decades, and definitely Wing express deserved a visit. Ordered over 20$ worth of food and drink. The delivery was short a soft drink.... So I called the place and was told they were sorry and my drink would be delivered. 35 mins of waiting and nothing was delivered so I called them and was told that they decided they weren't going to deliver it to me. This is completely UNACCEPTABLE........ I order take out from here often as it is on my way home. Indian food is good but we mostly order the wings. We like the old fashioned wings, no breading just wings and this place does it right. It is straight up, bone in wings with some great sauce choices. The traditional buffalo come in hot, medium and mild but what is unique about that sauce is that it is not the traditional wing sauce. This sauce has more flavor and depth than the traditional vinegar based sauce. We love them at our house. The Jerk sauce is also quite good, better than most places. They also have buffet which I haven't had in a long time but I always see people eating there. It is definitely one of my take out places to go. read more

I have had Indian food from a lot of different places in California, New York City and London. This little place whose only customer base is basically UCONN students, is one of the best I've ever tasted. I was eating here regularly as a grad student and now I struggle to find similar quality around where I live. Affordable, tasty, and consistent. Just good stuff. read more

Don't let the name fool you. This is some of the best Indian food in the area. I go there frequently for the buffet at lunch time and really enjoy the chicken saag. Most recently I had the lamb rogan josh which was really good. Extra spicy!!! They have lots of vegetarian options as well as goat if you're into that. read more

Food took TWO HOURS to even be delivered. Called the restaurant twice to check up on it, and lied about it coming in 5 minutes. Last straw just happened. They delivered 2 hours late, and it was the wrong food, and they refused to give me a refund. and the manager called me a liar! what a joke! but this is not the first time I have had a disaster with these people. My few experiences with this place have all been terrible. I am the sort of person to not judge on the first iteration, but this restaurant consistently disappoints. Their service is consistently rude, especially over the phone. Their delivery is either 2 hours late, or they cancel without calling. Their fried food is either under cooked and greasy, or overcooked and burned. every once in a while you can get something decent; but only if youre willing to dedicate hours of frustration and being cursed at. read more

Wings Express is very affordable and they are always at Coventry's farmers market. I actually discovered them at the Annual Herb Fest. Let me tell you, their chicken marsala must be their signature dish. My husband seems to always order the curry goat. Just be careful of the bones. My family and I have tried their chicken curry, patia, and korma. So far, no complaints. Maybe next time we will try their wings. If you order from the menu, the food is perhaps the best Indian food in the area. The buffet is so so. I would have given it five stars but like many Indian restaurants it is not very clean. I love coming here, one of my favorite places in u.s for Indian food ! The place is small and pretty much like an 'American dhaba ' or rustic cafe, where the food is served in basic throw away plates and the ambience is just minimal nothing fancy.. However the food served is amazing ! It has the the quintessential Punjabi taste, just so much like back home :) And this is coming from a delhi girl ! The samosas are fresh and crispy (Hard to find this combination in u.s) with a warm potato filling that has just the right spices and flavors. Samosa chaat is tangy and the chhole ( chickpea curry) in it is very tasty. The mint chutney they put is very fresh and adds a lot to the flavor. My husband and I have tried most dishes. saag paneer/chicken, malai kofta, Matar paneer, paneer butter masala, dal and bhartha being our favorite. I love the bhartha ( brinjal) , it has the authentic Punjabi taste of ginger chilies and peas. All other dishes are equally good. We usually have a pretty hard time deciding which one to eat cos we enjoy all of them so much ! The accompanied rice is also tasty with a hint of green cardamom that adds further to the flavour. I like the rice a lot and take back the left over to make rajma chawal ( beans rice) next day. To summarize, this place has super tasty authentic food, great portion size and a minimal price. We drive 40 min to get here, and make this effort not just for the amazing food but also to meet the wonderful owner , Sardarji (Paramjeet) whose smiling face and warm presence make the trip complete! It really does feel like a going to a place back home where everybody knows you and is happy to serve you ! read more

The curry was decent in flavor but the meat/seafood in the curry tend to be slightly over cooked at times while the rice tends to be too dry. The restaurant has provide a simple environment for dinners to eat there, nothing fancy but practical. The service was average at most times. I was really craving wings one afternoon so I decided to order from a place other than Wings Over. I figured I'd try Wing Express and ordered the combo of 16 garlic parmesan wings with fries and a soda. The delivery took longer than I thought especially since I ordered at like 1pm and thought that they wouldn't be too busy mid-afternoon. The wings were alright. They didn't come with dipping sauce on the side like I thought they would. I think the wings had garlic parmesan sauce plus ranch mixed in? The fries themselves tasted pretty good though.
