the inside of the falafel sandwich

The server/owner was very pleasant & accommodating & the resteraunt was cute inside, but the food was not good. My guest ordered the babaganoush & sent it back immediately. I cannot eat eggplant, so I couldn't taste it for review. I ordered the kibbeh & falafel wrap, while my friend ordered the beef & lamb gyro & replaced the ganouch she had taken away with the Antep Ezme which she was much happier with. I tasted it & it tasted old to me. I was not impressed. She did not enjoy her gyro, and I was not thrilled with my meal as well. The falafel was not crispy & did not have a defined flavor. It was all very bland, even the tzatziki was flat. It was like eating a mealy mash of all the same with no distinct flavor. I did not enjoy it at all. The Kibbeh stuffing was decent, but gave me a stomach ache. It was in a VERY thick corn breading. Again, I have had better. I am sad to say that i would not recommend it, nor would I return & my guest felt the same.

Really good food, so far I've tried Mixed grill, lamb shish, lamb shish & beef lamb gyro combo, & the Iskender. Flavor-wise, the lamb shish is my favorite, but the mixed grill is a really close second with more meat for the money. The service from the grill is great, especially the young gentleman who does the grilling, super friendly.

Lamb adana was a great recommendation from the waitress! Excited to come back and try other menu items. Manti appetizer was pretty good and came with a lot

A surprisingly solid Turkish Kebab House inhabiting a dying mall. The chefs cook with passion, and it comes out in their food. Worth a try On the hunt for some more tasty bites, and we find this place with tons of great reviews in a mall that we both thought was effectively dead. We decided to make the trek out, and give this place a fair try. So Enfield Square Plaza is effectively a dead mall. Lots of the storefronts are barren, and the few that are there are office spaces or random crash spaces. Beyond the standard mall walkers, there's not much to see beyond the few big box stores that inhabit this space. Next to Target is a main entrance to this space, with a small sign pointing inwards to lead to the Kebab house. A very small shop with a kitchen space and limited booth seating. We get seated but it takes the server a few minutes to talk to us. The single server was very kind and was very attentive to our needs, but she was slow in getting to everyone in a timely fashion. It takes another 20 minutes to get our order in, the lack of servers making the delay to get food that much longer. The food was much worth the wait though. Every bite we have was unique and tasty. The flavors presented are kind of Mediterranean preparations with indian spices. Like a spicy but creamy hummus with a earthy hit of cumin. or a babaganush with a healthy hit of tahini. All the dips were fairly tasty, with the babaganush being the only one that was slightly off texture wise. The Felafel was spiced well, and the creamy sauce it was pared with helped amplify the peppery and spicy notes of the felafel. The mixed grill was solid as well. Each meat was tender, cooked, and seasoned well. The standouts here were the beef shish and the korma shish. Both of those had really good levels of salt and were charred beautifully. The rices were mostly just starch, not a lot of flavor but they filled the plate. and the mixed salad was fresh and herby, chock full of tomatoes and onions. The desserts were also fairly tasty. They use a lot of pistachios, which have a little bit more fat content to them so they have a better mouthfeel when bitten into. On multiple occasions the head chef had to come out from his station to either clear plates or deliver cutlery. He is very specific on how things are presented and plated, and his passion shows in every dish he makes. It's obvious that there's great care put into each dish, even at the frantic pace that they work at. Despite the delays in ordering, the food being put out here is very good and a definite travel-to location if we ever get a hankerin' for kebabs. If you ever happen to be in the area to watch a movie, or you want to find a new place to try, then feel free to hunt this place down. It may take a little bit, but the food's worth it

Omg Amazing!!! Such a random location - located just inside the mall entrance. And such an underwhelming restaurant itself. But there a couple booths and tables. But the staff is attentive and friendly. So happy to be serving you. The kitchen is efficient and delivers 5 star quality food. Well done!! This is definitely a place to drive out of your way to get to!! Amazing. Sooo good.

We always have leftovers. The food is very delicious and filling. The staff is very friendly and helpful. International music is playing in the background. Check out their instagram page at https://www.instagram.com/kebabhouseenf/profilecard/?igsh=MXZ3aDR4djQ3Ym9veA==

    The new space is gorgeous

I've enjoyed the food and service at the tiny spot they had in the mall in the past, but the new location is incredible. There are several different seating options - booths, tables, and raised seating toward the parking lot side that I think you sit on a mat, but I didn't get a close look. The decor is really gorgeous, with Turkish rugs, lamps, plates and pillow cases all around. Most of the space is meant to be a restaurant, but they're trying to make the front (toward the parking lot) more of a cafe type of setting. There's a couple of comfy chairs in front of a fireplace, as well. Miygul served us, and she was very friendly, helpful and informative. The oil-based sauce for the bread is ever so slightly spicy and sweet and something I would buy to take home, but unfortunately they don't sell it - the kitchen staff came up with the recipe on their own and it's delicious. Food-wise I recommend the mixed cold appetizers, but everything I've had has been great and well-made. I really hope the Kebab House continues to thrive, unlike the mall it's in.

Chicken shish sammie - delish sauce. If you only eat half the bread, pick the saucy half!

We made our first time visit here last night and will be back soon. It was a busy Friday night but the woman working the front greeted us warmly despite the rush. We had two dishes - one small gyro plate - tasty chicken which came with a good salad, surprisingly good rice and a bulgar and chickpea side. The last could have used a little more salt/seasoning by our tastes but was probably better for anyone on a low sodium diet. The chicken shish sandwich was fabulous, mostly due to the awesome bread and tasty house sauce. They also brought us a basket of bread which I was still eating at breakfast this morning. As we were signing the bill they also brought us a complimentary sample of their revani - I will probably order one next time it was so good.

A little Turkish Paradise in a mall that is clinging to life. I legit stumbled upon this amazing restaurant when someone told me to try another small restaurant which wasn't open and I was told that it had odd hours. I am always down to trying new foods and new types of food. The owner's wife was beyond welcoming and friendly. She explained everything on the menu and offered me a free bowl of soup which was lentil. She also gave me a free sample of pistachios which are from her husbands town in turkey. She also explained that they were free of GMOs and lightly roasted. I ended up getting a pita with chicken. Which was all so fresh and delicious. the pita was soft. She explained that they spend a lot of time prepping all the food since it's all made fresh and house. I can't wait to go back and try some other Turkish dishes.

This is hard to find but WELL WORTH the search. It's in the Enfield Square Mall which is a whole sad situation. The Kebab House though is a bright spot. There is a separate section for takeout like a traditional takeout kebab shop. The formal restaurant area is lovely with tapestries, upbeat Turkish music playing and great service. I enjoyed a sarikiz mineral water, the delicious specialty salad whose name I can't remember and falafel pita! Will definitely be back soon!

I dined in on a Saturday evening. This place was full. Food was really flavorful. Lamb Adana & lamb and beef gyro combination for dinner was my favorite. Turkesh sausage pide was really good as well. Complimentary bread came warm, and tasted really good. I got a side of hummus as well. Ayran was a great drink with the food. The people were very friendly.

We decided to skip the patches of snow and join the "walking dead seniors" for our daily walking at Enfield Square Mall. We had intended another place for lunch--but noticed a new place in the mall--Kebob House across from the cinema. Since Mediterranean is our favorite, and kebob are right up there at 10 on the scale, we thought we'd give it a try. Well, this is now our new favorite eatery in Enfield. What a serendipity! We had grilled lamb Shish, served with green salad, bulgar and white rice. Oh my goodness! I mean oh their goodness! Owner Ozzy couldn't have been more service-oriented, the food was outstanding, and even the presentation was spectacular. The lamb is grilled, they use only olive oil and some soybean, but are very accommodating about helping with the right choices. So many more menu items to try. This place could put the struggling mall back on the map. PLEASE patronize Kabob House. You will be so glad you did. And we wrapped our culinary delight with some baklava--to die for, and Turkish tea, again served with such elegant style. What can I say more than this will be a weekly jaunt for us. So happy to have this clean, wholesome choice in Enfield.

City Kebab is a Middle Eastern kebab restaurant that opened in Hartford, Connecticut in September…read more2023. It was founded by husband and wife Uzbek immigrants Timur Rakhimov and Aziza Djalmamedova. The couple immigrated to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010. After over a decade of education, training, and hard work, they decided to try their luck as restaurateurs. They found a space that used to be home to Hook & Ladder Restaurant (right next to Hartford Fire Department's historic South Green Station). The couple hired Turkish immigrant Hasan Korkmaz as their head chef. Together, they curated a menu full of traditional Turkish and Uzbek cuisine that is all prepared in accordance with halal dietary laws. Some of the menu items include kebabs, samsas, falafel, gyro, and mezzo platters. I recently dined at City Kebab while I was in Hartford to see a concert. I checked Yelp to see if there was anywhere good to grab dinner before the show, and Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine sounded fantastic to me. When I entered, I was greeted by the very friendly co-owner Timur, who said, "I work for my wife. She's the real boss." After being seated, I began to look over the menu. When Timur returned, he tried to recommend that I get gyro. I told him, "Oh no. I know exactly what I want. I'd like to order a variety of small plates to sample. I'm a local food blogger and I want an authentic experience." Timur was just ecstatic and quickly went to give my order to the kitchen staff. I started off first with a small "Mixed Cold Appetizer" (combo of hummus, babganush, haydari, soslu patlican, antep ezme, avocado ezme), the "Falafel" (mixture of chickpeas, parsley, onions, garlic, Middle Eastern spices, deep fried) and a small teapot of "Turkish Black Tea". Timur brought me some complimentary "Ramazan Pidesi" (Turkish Bread) as well as a glass of "Fresh Squeezed Lemonade". He said, "You need to try this!" So far, everything was excellent! For the main course, I had the "Mixed Grill" (mixture of chicken shish, beef shish, kofte, lamb adana, beef & lamb gyro, served w/ white rice, bulgur rice, Mediterranean salad). It was a symphony of Mediterranean flavors! Timur surprised me with a "Pumpkin Samsa" (pumpkin filling in crispy pastry, seasoned with spices, served w/ tomato sauce) and said, "You can't leave without trying this. It's an Uzbek specialty!" It was very tasty! Before the meal was over, he said, "Save some room. I have another surprise for you at the end." He brought me "Künefe with Dondurma" (Turkish ice cream). I had never tried this before. Stuffed with melted mozzarella and then topped with pistachio and almond crumbles, it was simply divine! I repeatedly thanked Timur for his hospitality and for sharing his culinary cultural traditions with me. I had enough leftovers for both my wife and I to have for dinner the following evening. I'll definitely be returning with my whole family. If you're looking for an authentic Middle Eastern culinary experience in Hartford, then look no further than City Kebab!

We got the mixed cold appetizers which tasted really good with their bread. The mixed grill was very good, their lamb is one of the best we've had. I hope they consider adding iskender to their menu in the future. Unfortunately we didn't experience the best service when we were there. They didn't give us menus so we looked it up on our phones, and we had to flag the staff down to take our order after almost 15min. We asked for water refills and yogurt sauce but received neither and no one came to check on us. We didn't want to wait longer so we opted to skip dessert.

Let me talk about the kebab -- the quality of this place has significantly declined over time. When…read morethey first opened, they were truly making authentic Adana kebab. The chef was from Adana, and he used to prepare lamb meat properly with a zırh (traditional curved knife). But those days seem to be long gone. During my last two visits, there's been a noticeable drop in flavor. It seems they've switched from hand-minced meat to machine-ground meat, and they've started mixing in beef as well. The kebab, which used to crumble with rich texture, has now turned into something more like a cheap supermarket meatball. Despite charging above-average prices, this decline in quality is unacceptable. The kebab was served with both rice and bulgur pilaf, but both had clearly been sitting for a while. The rice, in particular, seemed like it had been cooked 2-3 days earlier -- it was far from fresh. It might still appeal to Turkish customers who have never actually had proper kebab even in Turkey, but to anyone who knows what Adana kebab is supposed to be, this is a joke. I assume most of their customers are foreigners who don't really know what to expect from a real Adana kebab -- so they've taken the easy and cheap route. To make things worse, during my last visit, one side of the kebab was burnt. And the chef, like a typical trickster, had placed the burnt side facing down on the plate, trying to hide it. That's just shameful. And finally -- here's a photo of the cooked tomato they served. Completely white and unripe. Really, chef? You didn't notice when cutting it? You didn't see it while cooking? Or even when plating it? If good tomatoes are hard to find (which they're not -- they're just coming into season), then don't serve them at all. If someone asks, you simply say "It's not the season, and we couldn't find good-quality tomatoes, so we chose not to serve any." But you don't serve pickling-grade, pale white tomatoes on a plate. Also, the place is now covered with signs saying it's alcohol-free -- seriously, there are nearly ten of them across the entrance, exit, and walls. When I asked the waiter about it, he explained that the restaurant is now a "halal establishment." But here's the strange part: since the place opened, I've been there around seven times, and every time I brought my own alcohol, the staff gladly served it to me at the table. Surely they didn't just now discover that alcohol isn't considered *halal* in their religion.
