We were on vacation leaf peeping traveling through & found this place. The complementary hot bread was so good. We ordered the luhmacun which was a large portion as you can see in photo & mixed meats. All so good! Our server was a gentleman who was very attentive. My husband ordered 2 grilled hot peppers. Our server was surprised that he actually ate both & brought him another one. He ate that one I'm not sure how. I can't handle picky food. This was a great find! Enjoy!!!

The only thing that could stop me from continuously eating was the risk of growing horizontally, like Snorlax. But it was worth adjusting my belt a notch. I recommend the mixed cold appetizer (great with the free bread) and for an entree, the Doner Platter. I'd also recommend ordering family style as the portions are pretty big. The complimentary basket of warm crispy bread was fantastic, and might have been the culprit for why we have many leftovers for our to-go box. The food was really really tasty, this place is incredible so I'm really happy to take some home.

Really delicious. We ordered the mixed grill and chicken adana for takeout. The meats were so good and tasty. The plates came with white rice, bulgur rice, some kind of thin flatbread, hot pepper and grilled tomatoes. They also gave a bag full of bread. This bread..ohmagawd!! Delightful. At first we were wondering what we are going to do with all this bread but we actually ended up finishing the whole bag throughout the day. One note of disappointment - the mixed plate was supposed to have lamb chops per the menu in both their website and doordash but instead it came with kofta kebabs. Initially we were upset but the rest of the food was so good we got over it. Still, I wish that would have been communicated to us to help manage expectations. Prices are slightly steeper than I would have liked but the quality was definitely there so can't complain too much. Overall, good foods and would highly recommend eating there to get the full taste of the meats.

This is our favorite restaurant and we always come here, even now that we moved out of state, whenever visiting, this is a must stop. It's always very fresh and delicious food, the service is amazing and everyone is extremely pleasant, and they recently remodeled and the restaurant looks beautiful! Highly recommend.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the looks on the outside, but after passing the many outdoor tables nested under a large tent, the indoors welcomed us with many wide, comfortable booths. Service was prompt and pleasant, and we didn't feel out of place in a restaurant that was a bit outside of our normal palate. They have lots of different types of kebabs, and offer several vegetarian dishes as well. I don't personally eat lamb, so we sampled some of the other dishes. The feta/filo appetizer was quite delicious and lightly fried. I would recommend getting some of the dill dip that comes with the zucchini patties (super good!). This was an impulsive stop after a trip to a nearby park, and I would definitely recommend it. It was so pleasant that we are planning on going back and trying some of the other kebabs or fish offerings, as well as some of the teas. Please note, you can bring your own beer/wine to the restaurant!

This place is so good! The flavors are delicious. My favorite things were the mixed cold appetizer plate and the lentil soup! I loved all the appetizers and the soup! I really liked the Turkish coffee afterwards as well! I will definitely be back and recommend it!

    Mother's Day Surprise Dinner

On Mother's Day unfortunately I didn't get to see my daughter due to work. Our daughter surprise us with delivery from Saray with variety of outstanding food. Everything from salads, entrée, bread and desserts was delicious. We got to experience great foods from a restaurant we have never been and will definitely go to soon.

Came here for the first time on a Saturday night and it was really busy. We made a reservation but…read morestill had to wait a bit to be seated. It's tiny inside but clean. We got the mixed cold appetizers which tasted really good with their bread. The mixed grill was very good, their lamb is one of the best we've had. I hope they consider adding iskender to their menu in the future. Unfortunately we didn't experience the best service when we were there. They didn't give us menus so we looked it up on our phones, and we had to flag the staff down to take our order after almost 15min. We asked for water refills and yogurt sauce but received neither and no one came to check on us. We didn't want to wait longer so we opted to skip dessert.

Let me talk about the kebab -- the quality of this place has significantly declined over time. When…read morethey first opened, they were truly making authentic Adana kebab. The chef was from Adana, and he used to prepare lamb meat properly with a zırh (traditional curved knife). But those days seem to be long gone. During my last two visits, there's been a noticeable drop in flavor. It seems they've switched from hand-minced meat to machine-ground meat, and they've started mixing in beef as well. The kebab, which used to crumble with rich texture, has now turned into something more like a cheap supermarket meatball. Despite charging above-average prices, this decline in quality is unacceptable. The kebab was served with both rice and bulgur pilaf, but both had clearly been sitting for a while. The rice, in particular, seemed like it had been cooked 2-3 days earlier -- it was far from fresh. It might still appeal to Turkish customers who have never actually had proper kebab even in Turkey, but to anyone who knows what Adana kebab is supposed to be, this is a joke. I assume most of their customers are foreigners who don't really know what to expect from a real Adana kebab -- so they've taken the easy and cheap route. To make things worse, during my last visit, one side of the kebab was burnt. And the chef, like a typical trickster, had placed the burnt side facing down on the plate, trying to hide it. That's just shameful. And finally -- here's a photo of the cooked tomato they served. Completely white and unripe. Really, chef? You didn't notice when cutting it? You didn't see it while cooking? Or even when plating it? If good tomatoes are hard to find (which they're not -- they're just coming into season), then don't serve them at all. If someone asks, you simply say "It's not the season, and we couldn't find good-quality tomatoes, so we chose not to serve any." But you don't serve pickling-grade, pale white tomatoes on a plate. Also, the place is now covered with signs saying it's alcohol-free -- seriously, there are nearly ten of them across the entrance, exit, and walls. When I asked the waiter about it, he explained that the restaurant is now a "halal establishment." But here's the strange part: since the place opened, I've been there around seven times, and every time I brought my own alcohol, the staff gladly served it to me at the table. Surely they didn't just now discover that alcohol isn't considered *halal* in their religion.

Zohara is classy, surprisingly affordable, and the food is absolutely delicious. Definitely go with the Meshta (feast) if you are going for dinner with a group. You'll get to try a wide assortment of the menu and it really serves as a fantastic method to savor the different flavors available to you at this restaurant. I've done it with just one other diner and not been upset. The feast includes a ton of appetizers, a few mains, and desserts. If you're going in for lunch, I suggest the mixed grill plates. Although I usually enjoy beef and lamb, and those are fine, I think the salmon with pomegranate really shines. I'd strongly recommend it for lunch. All of the cocktails I've had here have been nothing short of at least solid. They are inventive enough without going overboard. Service has always been stellar as well, and they were even accommodating of my dog on one visit. Overall, this is the best restaurant in West Hartford by a fairly wide margin.

Back around 2010ish my friends convinced me to try Saray Turkish Restaurant. I didn't really know…read morewhat I was getting into quality wise but I remember being pleasantly surprised by how good and fresh the food was. There was such great attention to detail that it quickly became one of my favorite restaurants. I recently returned with my pastor for a visit and we both had an excellent lunch! We arrived and were able to be seated quickly since it was a slow weekday, only 8 other people in the restaurant. We sat down and both got a couple of kebab combos, a shepherd's salad, with a mixed hummus and baba ghanoush appetizer. They also bring out house made bread, still hot out of the over. Their bread is fantastic, unfortunately both of us are avoiding carbs so we added it to the to go bag for family. The service at Saray is good, the staff is always friendly. One thing I love about Saray is that they don't rush you out like so many other restaurants do. That being said, if you want the check you may need to flag one of the staff members down or get their attention to get the bill. If you have the disposition of a squirrel this may make you uncomfortable but keep in mind they're not ignoring you; they are just letting you stay as long as you like. From what I heard that's more how they treat you at restaurants in Europe, where your table is yours till you leave. I prefer that than feeling like I'm disrupting an assembly line by not leaving immediately after finishing dinner. Anyway our food came hot out of the oven. I ordered a kofte and donner kebab combo. Kofte is like a Turkish meatball while donner is a lamb and beef blend roasted on a spit. My friend order chicken shish and kofte kebab. The food was cooked very nicely and as always had great flavor to it. The only gripes I could think of at Saray over the years is here or there the rice was a little on the soggy side. Also a few times the donner kebab, the one roasted on a spit, was a little dryer than other times but that's not the end of the world in my mind; plus I've never experienced that with their other kebab choices. If you're rather hungry I'd recommend trying the mixed grill as it's kind of a sample kebab platter. And the Iskender kebab, lamb with tomato sauce and in house made bread, is also a fantastic choice! The atmosphere at Saray can range from a perfect quite date spot to rather boisterous with families and couples filling the restaurant; although generally most of the time it's a relatively calm atmosphere. Keep in mind too that they can be fairly busy at different times, I've gone in there on a Tuesday night and it's been more packed than a Friday, although more often than not the weekends are their busiest days. Saray can be a bit pricey but so is everything these days and they give you decent sized portions. Saray is a model for consistency, they have been on point with their food for years. If you like Turkish food or if you would like to try something new, give Saray a try; they are fantastic!
