I'm not a hookah fan but Petra has unexpectedly delicious food. Don't be thrown off by the hookah lounge vibe. Their Mediterranean food is fantastic!

I'm back for another try at this. Let's see what they have (and don't have) this time. To start, I am having a Laziza non-alcoholic beer . I have also been given a take home brochure, which is new. Well, this "beer" has more taste than an O'Doul's, but also comes with 30 each of sugar grams and carbohydrates and is apple flavored I just found out. It tastes more like carbonated apple-flavored water. I'm not sure where the "beer" comes into play except it has hops as an ingredient. For the record, this place is BYOB. Come in before 8 to avoid the $5 cover charge per person and a $10 corking fee per bottle. Lots of hookah flavors to choose from as well. I asked for the "foul" but the server had no idea what it was. Come to find out it is a type of bean which they didn't have anyhow. For my first appetizer, I am trying the Fatoosh salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and a few onions). The server took it to the wrong table...Nice dressing. Tastes like oil and vinegar with a generous amount of a slightly salty spice. The salad is topped with a pile of fried wonton slices which they call "fried bread" so the entire thing is very heavy and hard to finish in a single sitting. This is a lot for $7 and feeds two people. Strange to see the utensils served on the plate (see top of the photo). No soup again! Boo...For my next item (of which I waited a half hour for the server who was sitting 15' away from me) I am trying their $16 8-piece jumbo shrimp main course. We'll see. This may just be an appetizer for me. I am, however, jealous of the doorman's (who is sitting next to me on the left) Jamaican jerk pork he got right down the street at Queenie's Island Grill. It's a dead night here unfortunately with more employees than customers. Watching soccer with Arabic captioning at the bottom. Almost a half hour wait, but it's good! The salad looks familiar...Rice is plain, moist and good and almost tastes like there is a hint of butter. The shrinp is fried, but not battered, which I like, and it also has some size and is a little spicy. The white sauce is like a cross between cheese and (very slightly sour) sour cream. That's it for tonight. The serving size here is pretty big. The cook came out (like the last time I was here) in his leather jacket. I suspect it's really the owner. This is really a hookah bar with food on the side and no liquor license. A lot of the menu is simply not available. At least business has picked up and it's just about half full.

Best Mediterranean food in town and they have the best service and best hookah it's a very nice place to go and hang out with your friends and smoke a nice hookah.

Great hookah, natural coals, owner and severs are very friendly! They take time to sit and talk with customers. Not many places in CT or MA have bubbles but Petra does! Comfortable atmosphere and reasonable price. Go for the real fruit hookahs, very smooth and you get good draws every time. Must try!

A little pricey as I had to pay to park across the street in the lot since the street was full but other than that, it was good. I was a little hesitant on ordering the shwarma but I was not disappointed, it was delicious. The hookah was great, very flavorful and our waitress was very nice.

This is to hookah what Taco Bueno is to fine Mexican dining. I visited on a Saturday night and we…read morepromptly decided to go elsewhere. For starters, the two-people-per-hookah policy is obnoxious. I get the trade-offs here and why the business has to do it, and more and more hookah bars are adopting similar policies. But when you're telling me if I've spent $50 on 2 hookahs for 4 people and one more friend shows up, our tab is now $75, I really don't appreciate that. I get that most customers are younger and would smoke 10 people on 1 hookah if given the chance, but you've got to have a middle ground. 5 people wanting to share 2 hookahs is not taking advantage. Then comes price: I'm from Texas where tobacco taxes are sky-high and businesses have about $20,000 of prep work to do for special tobacco-oriented zoning, and you still don't see prices this high. $25 for a bowl is obscene, especially with the aforementioned policy. Then comes the atmosphere. Loud, cramped, poorly ventilated, dark, and uncomfortable. It may seem novel to novice smokers but is less likely to be enjoyed by a regular hookah bar attendee. I also am not a fan of the pay-when-you-walk-in model. The register is up front and you cash out before you sit down. We made sure to walk into the back and have a look around before doing so, thankfully. Again I do get that their clientele may be a little younger and more stealy than other establishments, but it does not make for a friendly or inviting experience. There are myriad websites that will sell you an entire hookah package including pipe, tobacco and coals for the same price as a single 5-person smoke session here. I know he's got some overhead but a single bowl of this stuff pays for a whole box of the stuff you're actually smoking. Save your money.

This place has the total potential to be a 5 star lounge, but here are the pros, cons and…read moresuggestions to gain the extra 2 stars. Pros: Hookah: -good flavors (al Fakher and starbuzz) - packed well - small hookah with a lot of smoke - coconara charcoals Seating area: - very spacious - can handle large groups - unique floor seats - custom tables hold hookah and garbage - homey set up with actual couches - very laid back (music tempo maintains atmosphere -smoothie was on point Cons: Hookah: - not maintained regularly (they come every 20-30 mins), so it's not good 5 mins after they fix it Seating area: - the music can be updated - no worker is ever present, making it extremely difficult to order anything (waited 20 mins to order smoothie) - prepaying seems very unwelcoming Suggestions: This place mainly lacks in service. The seating area being unattended is a big disadvantage. Regular maintenance of the hookahs served out would make this place go a long way.

Hello out there in Yelp land! Today I'm doing a review on the Phoenician Hookah Bar...so here…read moregoes! The location: The one big minus about this place is the location, as it is in a rough area, but one that is up and coming so evidenced by the construction in the immediate area. There is also limited street parking nearby, but there is a parking lot within a couple minutes' walk from there that will cost you $10 (Note: it is cash only!) The prospect: Upon entering the establishment, we were greeted by the staff and immediately seated on some very comfy chairs. We ordered our meals, drinks and hookah selection after a few moments of taking in the atmosphere, which appeared to be very modern. There are a lot of little tables but the place has enough room so it does not appear crowded with furniture. The products (Food, drink and hookah): The food was top notch, let me say that up front...I was very impressed with the quality, quantity and presentation of the food that we ordered. It was very nicely done which made for a great experience. The drinks we ordered, both specialty drinks, were expertly prepared and tasted as good as they looked...I was equally impressed by the appearance and taste of the drinks we ordered. Though the food and drink were excellent, we really came for the hookah and once again we were not disappointed...the hookah came out quickly and it smoked very well and it was very smooth. Coal service was regular and it lasted for quite some time before the flavor finally left (it was over 2 hours). One minor ding though...their tobacco selection is limited to Al-Fahker and Starbuzz, both weaker tobaccos. It would be nice if they had a selection of stronger tobaccos like Nakhla, Trifecta or Tangiers for those of us who prefer a stronger smoke. The value: For our meals, drinks and hookah, we spent about $100 not including tip...everything was wonderful and I considered it well worth the money, considering the quality of everything that we had along with the top notch service. Overall, I would heartily recommend Phoenician Hookah Bar to anyone who likes the cuisine of the Middle East along with some good (albeit weak) hookah. We will definitely be back!

Went during the week and it wasn't too busy, which made for a relaxed experience. The hookah was…read morepriced fairly--not amazing, but not overpriced either--and smoked well overall. It's a solid spot if you're just looking to chill without a crowd. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, but it did what it needed to do. I'd come back again for a low-key night.
