I'm not a hookah fan but Petra has unexpectedly delicious food. Don't be thrown off by the hookah lounge vibe. Their Mediterranean food is fantastic!

I'm back for another try at this. Let's see what they have (and don't have) this time. To start, I am having a Laziza non-alcoholic beer . I have also been given a take home brochure, which is new. Well, this "beer" has more taste than an O'Doul's, but also comes with 30 each of sugar grams and carbohydrates and is apple flavored I just found out. It tastes more like carbonated apple-flavored water. I'm not sure where the "beer" comes into play except it has hops as an ingredient. For the record, this place is BYOB. Come in before 8 to avoid the $5 cover charge per person and a $10 corking fee per bottle. Lots of hookah flavors to choose from as well. I asked for the "foul" but the server had no idea what it was. Come to find out it is a type of bean which they didn't have anyhow. For my first appetizer, I am trying the Fatoosh salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and a few onions). The server took it to the wrong table...Nice dressing. Tastes like oil and vinegar with a generous amount of a slightly salty spice. The salad is topped with a pile of fried wonton slices which they call "fried bread" so the entire thing is very heavy and hard to finish in a single sitting. This is a lot for $7 and feeds two people. Strange to see the utensils served on the plate (see top of the photo). No soup again! Boo...For my next item (of which I waited a half hour for the server who was sitting 15' away from me) I am trying their $16 8-piece jumbo shrimp main course. We'll see. This may just be an appetizer for me. I am, however, jealous of the doorman's (who is sitting next to me on the left) Jamaican jerk pork he got right down the street at Queenie's Island Grill. It's a dead night here unfortunately with more employees than customers. Watching soccer with Arabic captioning at the bottom. Almost a half hour wait, but it's good! The salad looks familiar...Rice is plain, moist and good and almost tastes like there is a hint of butter. The shrinp is fried, but not battered, which I like, and it also has some size and is a little spicy. The white sauce is like a cross between cheese and (very slightly sour) sour cream. That's it for tonight. The serving size here is pretty big. The cook came out (like the last time I was here) in his leather jacket. I suspect it's really the owner. This is really a hookah bar with food on the side and no liquor license. A lot of the menu is simply not available. At least business has picked up and it's just about half full.

Great hookah, natural coals, owner and severs are very friendly! They take time to sit and talk with customers. Not many places in CT or MA have bubbles but Petra does! Comfortable atmosphere and reasonable price. Go for the real fruit hookahs, very smooth and you get good draws every time. Must try!

A little pricey as I had to pay to park across the street in the lot since the street was full but other than that, it was good. I was a little hesitant on ordering the shwarma but I was not disappointed, it was delicious. The hookah was great, very flavorful and our waitress was very nice.

As someone who's gone to hookah bars in NYC and Boston this place is wicked cheap and the service was above average.
