This was my second time here, the first being Restaurant Week. We came late on a Thursday night and were the only diners, though there were some people at the bar. I had the chicken pot pie and was very pleased. The salad that came with was fresh and yummy. The pie was full of big chunks of white meat chicken and veggies. It was a big dish, too. Had I not been so hungry, I would likely have taken half home. The husband had the Rueben and said it was good. The place is cute and the servers attentive. We had to wait quite a while for the meal to arrive, but that is likely because of the lateness of the hour and my pot pie's flaky topping had to bake in an oven. The one complaint would be that the drinks are not bottomless here. The iced tea was only $2, but there wasn't much in the small glass. Next time I will have to remember to also ask for water. The place is difficult to find as the storefront is very small and the sign is very small. The turn into the parking lot is extremely sharp and easy to miss. In the past I had the lamb burger and that was delicious. The place obviously cares about the quality of its food and making the flavors interesting. It is so nice to be able to get a yummy, healthy meal fairly late on a week night. I assume this place is big enough that you can also get in on weekends without a long wait. Why would anyone go to a chain when you can eat so much better here? read more

Got done with my assignment last Friday at 7PM. Circumstances found me very close to Ridge Road. Yelp led me to Winfields. I am so glad I stopped. The Ridge has a diamond on its impressive brow. This Gastropub is really special. Keeping up with the Niagara Frontier beer revival an exceptional beer menu is presented. I went with Glimmerglass from Cooperstown. I decided to go with the NY Strip. Supposedly the best cut of steak and quite the safe choice. My waitress asked if I wanted to hear the specials, my response was positive. When she said lamb chops I made the detour and ordered the chops. In short order I was served my salad and very shortly the entree came out. Three thick chops on a bed Swiss chard, chick peas and cherry tomatoes. The kick came from the balsamic relish that dressed the vegetables. The chops were delicious and the bed of veggies was very tasty. I have been eating for over 66 years and this was one of the best meals I have ever had. Go to the Basilica, say a prayer that Father Baker is canonized then head for Winfield's Gastropub and eat like a Cardinal. Once that man is recognized as a saint and the pilgrims arrive you won't be able to get near the place. read more

Upon recommendation from a friend, we tried this Pub on Friday night. We waited at the bar for 45 minutes, despite two tables cleared and empty. This writer observed the bartender rearranging something down the back of his pants then mixing a drink without washing his hands. We were seated,finally, and watched,with 2 other couples, as people who had arrived after us, were served at the bar. Waiting another 40 minutes my husband went to the bar to pay our bill.He expressed our frustration and was told it was because our order was being prepared on the grill. The bartender commented that they didn't need comments like ours. Since we were extremely hungry at that point, we went to a restaurant that we are familiar with. What a great little gem in an odd part of town. I have been dying to try this place and very happy I was able to. We showed up on a Thursday evening. They were not too busy, plenty of tables available, but we grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender Tom was very friendly. They have a great beer selection and a great cocktail menu. Lots of creativity in their cocktails. We started with the grilled cheese bites as an app. The house bacon- what can I say, AMAZING! I could eat a whole bowl of that by itself. I ordered the chicken pot pie and the other 2 had ordered the turkey wrap special of the evening with KiKis potato salad. Everything was delicious. They have a great menu, it's not a huge menu, but there is something for everyone. The restaurant is very clean, the staff is very friendly and the food is great. I always make a reservation (even when you don't think you have to). I walk in 10 minutes early and there were several tables filled- but with no food (oh no not a good sign) and a couple in front of me. They get seated and then I waited for 8 minutes and no one came back to get me so I sat myself. Owner said she had call ins and late staff and apologized. I've eaten here several times and it is always slow.....but always good. I had the vegetable burger - it is moist and tasty and I WUV the beet ketchup- makes me smile. Of course I cannot leave there without the Kiki's Warm Potato Salad (I know I know - it's covered in Velveeta cheese...but that's the kick!!) My foodmate had the Winfeld's Cheeseburger - there were no crumbs left so I consider it a win win meal! Lackawanna, being a smaller city, has some excellent restaurants - add this to your list. If you are near the Lackawanna exit on the 90 - it is straight down about 3/4 mile. read more

I have have driven past this place for what seems like forever and finally said I have to check it out; talk about incredible surprises. This could become my new hang. It has that friendly "cheers-like bar" atmosphere and they have great food to boot. It's bright and inviting and they have a gazillion craft beers available. My guest and I kept it simple and just ordered a couple of cheeseburgers and they were out of this world delicious. The hand cut fries with that special spice were an added bonus. Next time I am going to have a slice of that Guinness laced chocolate cake for dessert. read more

Spot on. Cocktail menu was great - signature and classics. And reasonably priced. I was happy to receive a glass on absentee along with my Sazerac. I also had Grace's Casket, which was delightful. The rest of the party HS various cocktail, all of which were wonderful. Dinner didn't arrive in a hurry, but it was worth the wait. We have 5 different Entres and each was outstanding. No parking! horrible food was given a Caesar salad which came with no dressing and said the dressing was mixed in the salad which was a flat out lie then the waitress brung a Caesar paste I'm sorry dressing is supposed to be a liquid. Food took forever which i was expecting with Covid. But then we're rushed out by the server who was ridiculously slow to leave that they needed the table. Mind you there were 5 tables open. Had a very savory lunch at Winfield yesterday. The fish tacos were fabulous and very fresh. My wife had The daily special of a house BLT on jalapeño bread and bacon that was made by the owner. Was the best bacon I have ever eaten. Bartender was Frienly, service was great, and we will definitely return if we pass through again. If we can swing in a make it happen, we will definitely stop on the way home for some bacon. read more

I cannot recommend Winfield's Pub more strongly to you. Having passed it many many times and never noticing or considering it, I was surprised to find here on Yelp that it is so well regarded. From the outside, it looks like a simple neighborhood joint, of which WNY has many. But this is special. The menu is dynamic with many great choices, a fun cocktail menu and craft beers. I had a Reuben sandwich, and I can say with complete sincerity it was the best Reuben I have ever had. I strongly recommend the hot potato salad which was delicious. It's a bit out of the way for us but I must remember to go back and sample more of their wonderful food. read more

Great food!! Convenient with private parking lot in the back. Came for lunch and immediately stepping out of the car you are engulfed with the smell from the smoker. Amazing. We enjoyed the poutine and burnt ends as an appetizer and split the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was fried to perfection. Great tasting batter and juicy chicken. We had a side of potato salad which is basically the potato version of mac n' cheese (without the pasta). Super cheesy and delicious, I've never had anything like it. The bathrooms aren't the best but they are functional and convenient. The staff is super friendly. I would go again if I am in the Buffalo area! read more

I went on a Thursday night and have never been on the weekend. I loved the fried cauliflower and would go again for it. The batter is lovely and the paired sauce complimented the duo beautifully. The tomato soup tasted like straight Ragu marinara. I am pretty certain I ordered $18 Scallop Entree Special with a Basil sauce and Mushroom side which sounded wonderful but what I received was a Tapas style (3 scallop) dish with an oily cream sauce (no basil) and minced potatoes appearing to look like mushrooms? I have never experienced anything like it but I was pretty turned off. There was an occasional minced mushroom in the mix. While the scallops were cooked properly I wouldn't order that again. I remember really having to force the 3rd scallop down. The Beer selection was decent. Staff lovely. There is a really uncomfortable flooding of Fluorescent Light from the kitchen into the main dining room which is softly lit with Candles. I'd highly recommend some curtains to block that strong light which was blinding my date at our table. read more

Went out with friends who decided on this new place they heard of and it was Winfield's. The pub is small and inviting - well set up. Clean!!! Very cool atmosphere and warm hospitality. The menu isn't daunting and has some very different and excellent choices! EVERYTHING is homemade and fresh! The special drink options are very unique with a wide variety of specialty beer options. I had the Chicken Pot Pie which was very obviously all fresh ingredients with dough made fresh that night. It really was perfect. Not overly salted and piping hot. The proprietors are all family and obviously put their love into their craft. Thomas and his mother take care of front of house and are SO personable!! His father is the "lone cook" (with help on a few key evenings) and this man can cook! Others in our party had the Reuben (which was phenomenal) and the lamb burger. I was informed that Kiki's warm potato salad was a MUST by one of the party I was with. Desserts weren't on the menu because I think they vary seasonally. We were offered (and ordered) strawberry shortcake and a vanilla bean cake with salted caramel drizzle. BOTH were amazing. Old fashioned lemon pound cake was used for the shortcake with fresh homemade whipped cream and fresh strawberries. The vanilla bean cake was not your typical cake. It was a hearty "pound cake" that stood up to the caramel like a champ and tasted amazing! I really enjoyed the food here! The personality of the ambiance and owner/operators are really top notch! (I jokingly told Thomas that everything was "horrible" - which sent my obvious message that it really was - pretty damned good!) Don't skip this one! We plan on going back!! read more

Parking is an issue here if you go during popular dinner hours. When we walked in we all said hello to the wait staff at the door with no reply. In fact she walked away for about 3 minutes then came back to seat us and still did not say hello or welcome. Simply dropped the menus and said she would be back. The food was good not crazy good as some of the reviews stated. We tried the fries. Tomato soup and hamburgers The tomato soup was the best Thick but a lot of flavor. Hamburgers were good but condiments were different. When i asked for the normal pickles our waitress did come up with some but was not happy I didn't want their version of condiments. Stopped in with my parents while on a drive from Toronto to New York. Chose Winfield's because it looked like it had good reviews. The inside looks like a typical place where you could get drinks and bar food but it had a certain homey feeling to it so that was nice. We ordered cheese burgers (which were recommended by the people sitting next to us) and they were delicious. I personally ordered mine medium rare and it came out cooked perfectly. It was served on a soft homemade bun, with a side of pickles, pickled onions, and arugula. You also get a choice of fries, potato salad or a side salad. The fries and the side Cesar salad were both very good. If you're ever driving by, definitely make the stop. The staff was very gracious and friendly and accommodated is quickly when we said we were in a rush to get back on the road. read more

I don't write reviews often, but I was so impressed by this unexpected jewel, I had to write one. I needed to get out and grab a burger and my neighbor introduced me to this place- which I would have never known about and never noticed driving by it- and I am forever grateful. You couldn't guess what is waiting behind the unassuming brick exterior. You can see the standard issue neon beer signs in the windows, and it gives you no indication of what to find. Inside is a sweet, calm, pretty interior- a little country, a little classy- and definitely low key. It is not a dirty, sticky, loud, dark bar like you find in the rest of the neighborhood. it was such a breath of fresh air. It was cool but not too hip, quiet but not too quiet, and friendly. The bar tender was such a sweetie (and cute), called me darling (made my night!). He'd refill my club soda without me knowing- my glass was never empty. The food knocked me off my socks. I am rarely impressed with food since I cook a lot, and make everything home made from pasta to bread to sweets- but this place blew me away. EVERYTHING is home made- the bread, BBQ sauce, paper thin delicious pickles, and they grind their own meat for the burgers! The menu is small enough that you are not overwhelmed, and you know that everything is made with love and care. I had the mussels in what I can only describe as magic sauce- it was the most delicious mussels I've ever had in my life. Huge chunks of thick bacon floating in a garlicky, beer, rum based broth. They even gave me a spoon for when the bread was done and I had nothing left to dip. I could die for those mussels. Next was a burger- classic, with bacon, cheddar and onions. The burger was HUGE- almost too huge to bite, but I managed! The bacon was so thick, and the onion were piled on high. It's one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life. The fries, which normally I wouldn't think twice about- were amazing. They kept the skins on the end, and they had just enough salt-I hate it when my fries have no salt. This did not disappoint. My neighbor ordered Kiki's Potato salad- holy cow. It was cheesy, gooey, and incredible. I haven't tasted anything like that. I could only eat half my food, I was so stuffed. Even as leftovers, an hour later, my husband wolfed it down and loved it. My only regret was not having the Nutella Bread Pudding that was WARM out of the oven and waiting for me! I just couldn't- there was no room. Next time, I'm getting that! And the duck poutine. And the potato pancakes. I am writing this review so that this place is packed all the time, and never goes away. They need to spread the word, and people need to come! We are going to come here for our next ladies night, because this has now pushed my former 'favorite neighborhood place' down to #2 (I won't say who!). This was downright incredible. Our first time here and we were very impressed with the food and service. Don't let the exterior deter you from going inside to eat. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was all home made. We started with the HOP fries, hand cut and a parm and garlic aioli and completely devoured them. I had the burnt ends and clam chowder as my main course and both were delicious. My wife had the warm mushroom salad which had so many Cremini and Shitake mushrooms she could not finish them all and she is not one to leave a mushroom on her plate. This has bothered me for 24 hours and it has to be addressed. I and my children were seated by the female owner. Our food came and my $16.00 chicken pot pie was not even close to warm. I decided to chalk it up as a lesson learned. BUT when I found 2 chicken bones in it, I stopped and put my fork down. 15 minutes later the female owner returned to the table to take the plates away I told her about the bones. She replies, WELL THAT GOES TO SHOW OUR FOOD IS ALL HOME MADE IN OUR KITCHEN. This was THEE worst meal I have ever had in my 57 years. Absolutely garbage. I gave 1 star because zero was not an option. My kids had a Chicken Ceasers salad which was good and my other child had a grilled cheese meal with tomatoe soup, all barely luke warm. Ordered a few beer battered fish fry's for take out. Had heard good things about this place. It was my first time. Upon opening my container i could see that there were not many french fries although they were seasoned well. There was also 3 small pieces of fish. The fish was extremely greasy and lacked any flavor. The only other side was a small portion of coleslaw. It was ok but not a big enough portion. Overall considering the price of about $15 apiece, i would say it was not worth it. I may return to try something else but will not get a fish fry again. Very Few french fries, only one small salad (coleslaw), greasy fish and a cost of $15-i can find a better fish fry for less money. read more

I've been here twice with groups since my first review and, unfortunately, have gotten the same waiter and received the same horrible service. He takes forever to approach the table in the first place, then has to be asked repeatedly for items, like water for the table. It took our group of 6 people 2 hours to order and be served our dinner tonight. After an hour and 1/2, we had to ask where our meals were. There were only a few other tables with people at them and we never learned why there was such a delay. The second glass of wine I ordered midway through, never did arrive and there was no opportunity to ask about it as the waiter hardly came by again. No opportunity for dessert either, even if he had asked, as it probably would have meant us closing the restaurant. The waiter was very nice when he was there and seemed oblivious to there being any issue. Very bizarre. Although the chicken pot pie was overly salty, the food in general was fine - when it did finally arrive. read more
