My family had a wake down the street and there aren't a ton of restaurants open on Monday nights, so I checked out what was in the area abs rated decently on Yelp. I was honestly surprised when we parked and when we went into the bar that this place had 4 stars. We sat in the back room where a vacuum was stored, so I continued to be skeptical. All 8 people in our party LOVED their food. We had meatloaf, burgers, ruebens, salads, and wings. Our family recommends all of them. The wings were were a bit crispier than usual, which is what I prefer. Don't let the hole in the wall pub vibe fool you, the food here is spectacular, it's super affordable, and the wait staff was lovely. read more

This is a spot my friends and I would go to when we lived in Kenmore a few years ago. Last time we were here was pretty-Covid and we would have a blast playing darts and enjoying the friendly environment there. This past weekend we visited and the pub had a huge facelift. They updated the bar and environment in there and it looks great. Bar tender was friendly and great selections of beer. No more dart board, but still a great pub to go have a beer at. read more

Unless you are a regular it takes a while to get a drink. The bartender was not even that busy but more hanging out and walked by a few times before I asked for a drink. I witness ed a waitress drinking a beer while waiting on tables. She had the beer visible near the bar when she was drinking it. She had shaved hair on the side. You can tell they water down the ketchup . The fries were greasy and the fryer oil needs to be changed also. read more

Less than stellar review on the food. I attempted to order a steak sandwich and the beer cheese soup at 4 pm last Sat. (they opened at noon) Was called back shortly after to inform me, they were out of the soup. OK. Then was called again to say can you wait 45 min to one hour for pick up because they were out of steak and had to go to the store. At this point I cancelled the order but thought well, things happen so gave it another go this evening. Wrong move. They were still out of the soup (turns out they haven't had it in months!) and the steak was horrible. It was the most grizzly piece of meat I've seen in a long time. I was just back in town this past weekend and my brother and I were out and about and were about to call it a night, but I suggested since it's my last night in town let's go to our old standby, Neighbor's. It is always a nice place and not far from his house. I don't want to make it sound like it wasn't a good time, but we went in there on Saturday, probably tenish, maybe a bit earlier, and it was sparsely occupied. We went and had a nightcap pitcher. The young lady behind the bar was very nice and took care of us. What was odd was even though they had, I don't know, four or five televisions, every one had pro wrestling on. As in PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING - from Saturday morning when you were a kid in your pajamas. To boot, all six or seven people in the bar were hooting and hollering and really getting into it. LOL. Cool. I watched wrestling too, when I was ten. I'm not trying to put anyone down, but seriously? On a Saturday night at a neighborhood bar and we have to watch ..... wrestling???????? I mean ALL the televisions had the same channel on. No, I didn't ask to have the one nearest us changed, because there was a woman at the corner of the bar next to us who was REALLY into it. Just odd to me, but again, I'm sure if I'd have asked to have baseball or something else put on one of the televisions I'm sure the bartender would have happily obliged. One last thing; we got a double order of wings to go (we specifically stopped there on the way home for their wings which I've had many times and loved) and they were markedly salty. VERY much so. I had only a couple and told my brother to be careful. He agreed that they were more salty than normal, but not too bad. Anyhow, if you go there and want wings, just mention that you don't want any extra seasoning put on them because they were way too salty. In fact, I'm back here in Cleveland, a full six days later, and I'm eating the last of the leftover wings from Neighbor's as I type this, and the salty wings made me think of writing this review. Not very appetizing. STILL a nice place and I will definitely be back next time I'm in town, but hopefully, that time there'll be some adult themed sports to watch. Maybe football ....... read more

Neighbors is good for cheap drinks ($3.5 gin&tonic) and fish fry on Fridays. Their beer-battered fish fry is delicious, inexpensive and the fish is large, unlike in many other places. It has a bar and a separate cozy section for dining. During the summer they open their veranda. read more

Had take out fish frys last Friday. Hands down - best fish fry around. Perfectly cooked fish, crispy batter and moist and flaky fish. Macaroni salad was delicious (I don't even like macaroni salad and I ate it all). Fries were good, a generous portion, and the coleslaw was a great accompaniment. i work in the area and figured id give it a try. i gave a call to see if they would prepare my lunch so it was ready when i got there. so many places wont do this, but Neighbors pub were happy to oblige. not only was my food ready when i got there, but the food was awesome! the burger was delicious, the fries were extra crispy ( on my request) and the wings were cooked perfectly (crispy, without me having to request them to be). they were so accommodating it makes a PERFECT place to have lunch. especially if you are pressed for time and want to call ahead. i will have to try them out for dinner as well, but i would recommend this place for anyone. read more

It's a dive bar. The service might not be great, the lighting dim, the decor old school...but hot damn if they don't give you good food! The Beef on Weck had LOVE in it, this sort of Spartan "This. Is. BUFFALO!" what-a-Beef-on-Weck tastes like. The beef was tender and juicy, the horseradish punching, the bun covered in plenty of salt and caraway seeds. Soooo good! Wings here are nice and crispy and lighter on the sauce side (which is how I prefer them). Neighbors has very solid bar food with zero pretentiousness...which is fugging great. Also, the prices here are IN.SANE! It cost $30 for four draft beers, a small order of wings (10 wings), and two sandwiches. I kept rechecking the bill to be sure I was seeing it correctly, because in the words of Boromir, one does not simply find those prices nowadays . This place has a kick-ass fish fry, SKIN OFF!! That alone is very important and special to me. It's my favorite fish fry in Buffalo so far. They also have great beer specials. The southern fish fry with a Ritz crust is super crunchy which is great with the fresh haddock. It's my go to for fish on Fridays. I'm saddened to see they are temporarily closed during this time of lockdown due to Covid-19. I hope that the owners and employees are safe during this critical time. read more

Neighbor's is the kind of place that proudly boasts it will not separate checks. Neighbor's is the kind of place where you order your hamburger separately from fries. Neighbor's is the kind of place where TV's are perpetually fuzzy. Neighbor's is the kind of place where the waitress will forget the specials, look up at the chalkboard advertising them, and remark, "Wow, I really wrote them crooked, didn't I?" Neighbor's is the kind of replace that will remind you of that one scene in "Wall Street" where a young Charlie Sheen clad in a cheap suit visits Martin Sheen in a union joint so dingy you knew that places like that couldn't exist in real life. In other words, Neighbor's is a dump, a dive, a mess. But Neighbor's is the kind of place where you can order a pint of Yuengling for $2.00 all day long, the kind of place where a burger, fries, and a beer will cost you $9.00. Neighbor's is the kind of place that wraps silverware at each table in cloth napkins, where cloth tablecloths sit neatly under square plastic guards. Neighbor's is the kind of place where the waitress, hostess, and manager will all visit you, will ask you if you need anything, will satisfy any reasonable request, will remember your name, will remember your drink. Neighbor's is the kind of place that looks empty most nights but urges you to "Make your reservations now" for their monthly prime rib special. Neighbor's is the place where you will run into that neighbor of yours from who you borrowed that ratchet set last summer that you still haven't returned but will forget all about it when you grab him and shout, "Hey, imagine running into you here! I don't even see you up at the house!" In other words, Neighbor's possesses all the characteristics necessary to be the lifeblood of a neighborhood. Honestly, I have no idea how to fairly rate this place. The food is awesomely mediocre but cheap to the point of ridiculousness. How can I say a burger tastes crappy when it's better than anything I could conceive of at its price point? It's certainly better than similarly priced items at fast food joints. And then they offer veal specials, prime rib specials, and so forth that I am simply loath to try. Is this place two stars for atmosphere? One? Four? Is it three stars for food? Two? One? What about for beer? Given the price and the service, doesn't it have to be five? My compromise is three stars. If you live in the University Heights or Ken/Ton area, I think Neighbor's is worth a visit, worth a few drinks, worth a few yucks, worth seeing that guy from down the block you used to deliver newspapers to without ever receiving a tip. Friday. Fish fry. Decided to try their Southern-style fish fry. The breading is made from Ritz crackers, so it has a somewhat different flavor. When served, the fish looks darker than a typical beer battered fish. The coating was crisp and the inside was thoroughly cooked to perfection. The coating's flavor was slightly different (in a good way) from a standard fish fry. I liked it as did mom and companion. I'm glad I tried it and will probably have the Southern-style once in a while for a change of pace. It comes with good standard sides: cole slaw, rye bread, choice of potato. read more

I started going to this pub when my fiancee and I started dating almost 6 years ago. To be quite honest; I really enjoy the clientele here. The food is good most days, and one cannot beat the drink specials. I have never had issues with the bartenders in this establishment. The one thing I do know about the Pub is that they are a little-clicky, but I do know that the clientele is nice to people who are nice and cool with them. I have always said that Neighbors should expand their menu or change it. They have had the same menu for as long as I have been going there. The one day that I would recommend for food at Neighbors are Fridays. Their fish fry's are the only ones I will eat in this area. The owner (Don) does not skimp on the quality of fish that is used on Fridays. Where other establishments started using Cod to cut costs, Don did not. I hope those of you who have rated this place badly gives it another chance. Please feel-free to report anyone who gave you bad service or was mean and rude to you. A great neighborhood bar. They serve some of the cheapest pours in the area and also maintain at least two taps for local craft beers, which I appreciate. The food prices are phenomenal and there's a lot of variety on the menu. The food isn't the best I've had, but you can tell that most of it is cooked fresh, and the portions are ridiculously generous. I have never had a problem with the service here, and noise levels have never been too bad even when the bar has been crowded. Absolutely recommend for dinner if you are in the area, although they have been unexpectedly closed sometimes when I have tried to visit so it may be best to call ahead and make sure they're open. read more

I have eaten at Neighbors Restaurant & Pub many times over the past year and I continue to be surprised and delighted by the high quality of food both from the menu and from the daily chef specials. Meh, it's not really a dive bar, pretty sure it's aiming for something higher, but in the end it's a dive bar. Cheapish beer & drinks, obviously don't expect Goose or flaming Alsatian lemon peels in a craft cocktail... thank goodness. So sick of that bullshit. Actually had Hayburner on tap. The clientele reminds me of the patrons of Gypsy Parlor, only tack on 30 or more years, all gravely voiced smokers who are actually most likely neighbors of Neighbor's Pub. Food. Again, I think the head cook is trying to do good things but when you're serving frozen corn with meals as the vegetable, medium-well meat that is supposed to be rare, & a lot of freezer to fryer things it's clear he hasn't had much if any training outside the most simplistic kitchens in the area. Wings looked pretty good, but can you have a bar with lousy wings in Buffalo? Not trying to sound like I expected Hutch's, you can totally get this place from driving by. Every first Saturday of the month Neighbors offer prime rib on their menu. The flavor of the meat is what you would expect, but the portion size and fat to meat ratio is to be considered. Queen cut is listed at 14 oz, but the 1/4 in. thick piece I received (on two different occasions) was not even close to that. In addition, 25-30% of this cut was a section of fat. Prime rib should have a certain amount of fat, but considering the small portion I was given, I must say left me going home hungry. I've witnessed other plates of prime rib coming out of the kitchen, which appeared to be what was advertised. Perhaps the cook was not given the proper tools (such as a scale) to weigh out portions and / or maybe he just doesn't have an idea how to guesstimate. Either way, ordering prime rib is a crap shot here. The two stars I listed was for just the prime rib. Wings, roast beef, and other menu items are quite good. Bona appetit! read more

I didn't think there was a corner bar in Western New York that couldn't cook a decient chicken wing. Well, this is it. The worst part about the meal was that the wings were the best part. The potato skins were not washed and, consequently, covered with dirt. Forget about trying to get a drink in this place. I got my first drink at the beginning of the Sabres game and was finally able to get my second drink once overtime started. Add in the fact that you are given separate drink and food bill even when you sit at the bar, there is no reason to go back again. read more

Can I give it zero stars? I'm also wondering how I just posted the review but it still isn't there. Is there a time it must vet before being included? I took 11 friends there when my mother died and the three who got the chicken salad had one chicken breast to split between them rather than one per salad. I thought they were just out, no apology though. Then they would never have chicken fingers as I was told they didn't get ordered. The last straw came last Saturday Night. I took another couple there for dinner. I ordered the filet, medium-medium rare. A piece of meat was served to me that was well done and an inch to inch and a quarter thick, it seemed like a tough sirloin, not a filet. It was horrible. The waitress never came to check how everything was. Everyone else had finished eating by the time she came back. I told her how it was overdone and horrible and she said she'd let the cook know. Instead of him apologizing, he came out and verbally attacked me in front of my friends. I had never seen anything like it. Like I want to eat alone, you only do it if the food is inedible, which this was. All that had to be done was cook a new piece of meat and apologize. Instead he brought out a steak that wasn't the one from my plate and went off on me. The one he brought out was a filet, about 2" thick and done as I had requested it. I don't know what his game was, but I've never been treated so rudely in my entire life. I thought the owner needed to know. I tried all week to get a hold of him. I left multiple messages with my phone number that the girls read back to me. Still no call. Finally, today as I had Good Friday off I stopped by the bar in hopes of finding the owner there. Be careful what you wish for. He was there. He came off as insincere, unapologetic, and put out that I came to see him when he didn't really want to deal with it at all. Gave me a lame excuse that the girl didn't write down my number that she read back to me twice, lol. He offered me dinner on him. How is that solving my problem of being verbally attacked by visiting his establishment. Did he tell the cook to apologize. Did he call the cook out who was there to get to the bottom of what happened a week ago. No. He tried to buy me off. No "I'm so sorry, what can we do to make this right." Wow! You can't ever make it right at this point. I asked him if he had two cooks where I could come in when the one who was so horribly rude to me wouldn't be there. I was told no, he is my cook. So at Neighbor's the customer isn't always right, the cook is. I am happy I found out what the owner is about as I will never put another dime in his pocket. I also know how much of a hit he will take as we and all our friends will no longer go there. That was half their business. The least classy people I've ever had the displeasure to deal with. Save your money, and be way less aggravated. Go somewhere where they attempt to please their customers or at least give the appearance of caring. These guys don't. Rick read more

I love this place. Great food (wings are awesome, highly recommend the bourbon BBQ sauce), great beer for not much money (name another bar that serves $7.00 pitchers of Blue). This was the very worst food I ever had. The hamburger must have been frozen, old, and thrown on a grill. The chicken sandwich was under cooked and I wish I had a piece of chicken on my standard roll. I will never refer a friend or enter this so called pub again. Should stick to selling beer and maybe open a window to get the stench out of the place, and yes I did pay my bill and left the waitress a tip, because it was not her fault and would never stick her with the bill. read more
