Seems like people's experience at the Windrift is hit or miss. For me, it's a hit. I've been schlepping to the Windrift, barefoot from the beach, since I was only old enough to drink a Shirley Temple. There will always be a special place in my heart for the 'Drift. Granted, you won't find me there if I have to fight a crowd. Location Location Location then a little bit of food. The location is right in the middle between Avalon and Stone Harbor, on the beach with awesome views on the second floor. They even have an out door patio which I loved. Its a typical bar restaurant with huge spaces with a casual eating area, another classy sitting style area and then there's the typical bar area by the pool down stairs. The place was perfect for us as we simply left our chairs on the beach and walked in with sand on our feet. I had a regular cheese burger and my wife had a chicken salad, both were good but nothing exciting. The service was great very attentive and friendly. We've been to Avalon twice this summer and we do frequent the Windrift upstairs restaurant for breakfast, but during this trip, we tried the dining room there for dinner. As my friend put it "the menu describes the food much better than the chef cooks it". Appetizers were good. Calamari was great! We were a party of 7 and no one was impressed with their entree. It's just ok. Very bland. Not the worst I've ever tasted, but just not worth the price or what I expected. read more

Had a family dinner in the dining room with our 12, 10, and 8 yr olds. We had a great experience. Attentive staff and great food. 5 large scallops with lobster rissotto were great and actually wished they only served three for a lesser price. Filet mignon including two child portions and a pasta were tasty but not the best. A cheesecake and two chocolate mousse desserts were good. Wow. What a disappointment. So loud you can't hear yourself think. Pricey and not very good at all. Had turkey club, wheat toast must have been made yesterday, bacon was day old and cold, no cheese at all, and mayo was no more than a teaspoon full. No yuengling or tuckahoe beer. Come on, really. Like Times Square on New Years Eve. A group of us went for drinks and light meal, so we ended up in the 'beach bar' on the lower level. The bar pizza wasn't bad, but don't go for the food. The band was loud and just OK, so don't go for the band.. The draft beer, the crowd and the scene were good.....if you go here, this should be why. Oh, and I would be reluctant to stay here, just because of noise and 'the scene', but younger folks might consider it a plus. Had an amazing business lunch there this afternoon on the deck overlooking the ocean .the lobster grilled cheese was outstanding ,my clients tuna tacos and beet salad were delicious and the drinks were the perfect compliment on this gorgeous summer day.Service was very good too.I definitely will be back. read more

Attended a Wedding reception at the Windrift Hotel and it was amazing. Event room is overlooking the beach and room is beautiful. Food and service was five stars. Went for wing night. We've been going to this as a family for over 10 years. This time, however, we paid our $5 cover and were told (at about 7:00) that at 9:00 PM all of our kids under 21 had to leave. This hasn't ever happened before. So our family "night" (we've been there until 1:00 AM before eating and drinking) turned into a family "evening". Nice building, pretty good wings nothing special really, but the new family un-friendly atmosphere really ruined it. 7 Mile Island is a family resort. We expect that kind of attitude in Wildwood or Ocean City, not here. Also, on the food, my sister (vegetarian, yeah I know) got a salad.Salad had no dressing and no silverware. Windrift Restaurant is always a great pleasure. Some newer things really improved the overall experience such as an excellent raw bar, wine collection, brick oven pizzas...and these all added to the many things that already made Windrift our main beach destination. Management is horrible ... Was given the wrong room so had to change rooms twice ... Fire alarms went off 4 times in one night , 330 and 430 am had to evacuate the building 2 times. Then again at 5 and 530. Nothing was compensated for the inconvenience!!! Just a note saying that it was due to the pressure in pipes. You would think maybe a discount or even a free breakfast. Then when Leaving we asked if they could Hold our bags so we could go To the beach before we left and was told no.... I have never stayed at a resort that they would not hold your luggage ... Went here for drinks. We sat on the patio. It was beautiful to overlook the water. Birds kept flying onto the deck though. Luckily it didnt effect us but still should be looked into. I have nothing to say about food or drinks here as I never got to have any but I will review the abysmal customer service. We arrived as a party of two on a Friday night and put our name down as they do not accept reservations. At 6:45 I was told there would be a 45 minute wait and understood as I have worked in the restaurant industry for 4+ years and know how busy Friday evenings get. At 7:40, we asked how much longer it would be/where we were in the queue as many parties had been leaving and our time was nearing an hour. The hostess was extremely rude, saying "well I don't wanna lie, but I think it could be more like 25 minutes now we will text you when it's ready." We continued to wait as many people came up to put their names down to wait as well, all of which were told the wait would be 30-45 min, despite the fact that my party and many others growing impatient around us had been waiting over an hour. After 25 more minutes, we asked for our status again and the hostess showed us that four tables were still ahead of us and that the tables were not flipping very fast; in the higher end restaurant I work in, along with many others along the Jersey shore, post-covid time restrictions have been put in place, i.e. an hour and a half flip time in order to accommodate more guests in restaurants with reduced capacity due to outdoor seating. When inquiring about any regulations, the hostess said "higher end places like our restaurant don't do that," essentially asserting wherever I worked "not high end." We jokingly said "we don't really want to wait another hour to eat," the hostess replied and said "well it will probably be less than an hour but I can't promise that. It's not my fault you have to wait." After being hungry and frustrated, we left. I spent much of my teen years hostessing and know how tough it can be to please hungry customers as you are the first line of contact with a restaurant; there's nothing wrong with telling people there's a wait, but try to be more realistic when telling folks how long they can expect to wait... and try to bite your tongue when looking to give an attitude!! read more

I was leaving the restaurant and happened to walk through the bar. The man in the bar asked for my id and i gave him my passport as my license was expired. I could not believe it, but he told me i could not walk through the bar and sent me put through the back door, and he called me "fuck nuts". When i kindly asked for management from a different worker and spoke to them said they didnt have to give me his name, and that i had to leave. A really great restaurant with solid food, but the music and entertainment is much too loud. It's near impossible to have conservations with people sitting at the same table as you. While the entertainment is good, it is simply just too loud. read more

Probably won't ever go back. The view is decent and they have good entertainment at night, but the bouncers and waiters at night have been incredibly rude to the point of offensive to my family and me on more than one occasion. Extremely poor customer service. Good food but the dining manager is a complete tool. We initially were estimated to be seated in thirty minutes... Thirty minutes later they said about a half hour... That's fine because they have a bar but in another half hour we returned to ask the dining manager how long and she said about fifteen minutes. So I told her how we've been waiting and in her words, "Are you trying to trick me into seating you early?" and when I said I understand that you are busy tonight but we've been waiting for a while she responded with "Do you want to eat or not?" The Windrift is always a favorite of mine - especially ever since they did their upstairs renovations! I grew up at the shore and the Windrift was the place to be, and still is, on Tuesday Wing Night! Great staff, great food, great energy... what more could you ask for? read more
