Loved the shore ambience. Service by Amy and the team was very good. She really helped make our evening go really well. Great personality, attentive, and helpful. Just a kitchen and bill surprise otherwise 5 star service. We started with excellent martinis and the shrimp cocktail. Five pretty good size pieces of shrimp, but they tasted like they had just been dethawed in terms of flavor and texture. I definitely would not order it again. For entrées, I had the crabcakes which were good, but lots of filler. Not near enough remoulade sauce for two crabcakes. My wife had the scallops. She asked if she could substitute the vegetables for spinach and the rice for sweet potatoes fries. Our server said that would be fine and did not say there would be an "up charge" for doing that, nor did I see that mentioned on the menu (I mean you did note an up charge for Caesar salad or lobster bisque substitution). We probably would've ordered it anyway, but we should've been told upfront if we made a side substitution, they were going to charge us more vs a surprise on the bill. The 5 scallops were small but tasty. Initially they brought the scallops with asparagus and French Fries by mistake. Our server noticed and had them go back immediately and fix the order. Still, I had to start alone. Had me scratching my head that they brought the wrong order and still up charged us by surprise for the side substitutions. I would have expected a discount for the kitchen mistake vs an increase in the bill. I asked our server about the up charge and she said that's the way it is. We were pleased with the ambiance, the service and our table on the front of the deck. Initially were seated at a table right by the side door but the server activity in and out was too much, so we asked to be moved. Not a problem and glad we did. Our server was very good and we ordered our dinners of Prime Rib, Tuna, and Pizza. Prime rib was tender and served as requested. Tuna was equally as good as was the pizza. I was told this place was good and recommended to try it while I was going for a walk in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the calamari and the margherita pizza I ordered tasted very bland with no flavor. (I've had way better calamari and Margherita pizza where I come from) For the calamari, I was expecting cocktail sauce or tartar sauce on the side but they gave me what tasted like Spaghetti sauce from a jar that you would get in a grocery store which was kind of unusual to me. Just because this restaurant is in a very nice beach town neighborhood, you would think the food would be decent enough but it wasn't. At least the staff came off as friendly, nice, and welcoming. This was such a fantastic find for our first time in Avalon! Easy to make our reservation through OpenTable, and pleasantly surprised they could accommodate our family of 6 for prime dinner hour. The restaurant is large inside, making it possible to seat many tables at once. The vibe is very chill, with live music most every night. From the lobster bisque (totally worth the calories!) to the crab ball appetizer to our delicious entrees (penne vodka, sea scallops, chicken parm x2, black angus burger, and ravioli for the little guy) every bite was perfection. And just when we thought that was it, most of our party saved room for dessert, which is a MUST! Our girls chose the strawberry s'mores ice cream sandwich which was to die for, and my husband got the special -- chocolate chip blueberry ice cream sandwich -- which was a home run for my blueberry lover. So thankful for a true locals place with the welcoming attitude and space for out of towners and new visitors to Avalon! The bar is always filled with friendly faces. However, I was there just last night and watched a customer berate their waitress and the other women working. Ended up leaving zero gratuity for serving 10 people, just because the appetizers were cold (it was a windy day and they were sitting outside). So sad to see one visitor abuse the servers though. Rock n Chair truly has a personable, fantastic staff. We go there often enough to appreciate the atmosphere and sincerity of the employees, the food and drinks, and the hard work that goes into their daily grind. read more

We bought a beach house in January in Avalon and decided to try out several new places. Rockin' Chair hands down has been the best! From their Wings and Calamari on the app menu, to their always fresh salads, and amazing French Onion soup, to some of our favorite meals like the salmon, and chicken parm. They never disappoint! Not to mention the brick oven pizzas! They also have THE BEST bartenders and Happy Hour specials including the plentiful Martini menu! They have a drink for any mood. The owners are very involved, always greet you with a smile, and are extremely accommodating. Bathrooms are always clean, stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, soap....etc. They even have the attached ice cream shop that was a real hit with our children this past summer, and ADULT MILKSHAKES!! I would have given 4 stars except for their side salads are sadly small, the rolls are stale and generic, and the prices are just a bit much ($13 for a cocktail wow). Halibut - sooo good. Tons of lumps of crab meat over a decent sized portion of halibut all in a delicious garlic cream sauce. Highly recommend! Pizza - skip. The crust is thin and crackery, and I thought the entire pizza lacked flavor unless you count butter. Had the white pizza with sausage and broccoli rabe and it just wasn't that great. Pricey for low quality food. Glorified diner food. Last night we went here for our end of vacation dinner. My Chicken parm was raw. The others Steak had a lot of gristle. House Salad dressing was like straight oil. Some of the party asked for a side of pasta with garlic and oil and it came out with butter. Waitress was wonderful, attentive and very sweet. She got me a new chicken parm that was fully cooked but the sauce was so heavy and the chicken breading was clumping and separating from the chicken. It was not good. She noticed how bad it was and took it off the bill even though I didn't ask. She was great dealing with a big crowd and had a great personality. read more

Disappointing experience. Had reservations at 11:30 am for Sunday brunch. Our group, all from out of town, were all there by 11:37. We were given a table and then sat there for 15 minutes before finding someone to get us a waitress. We were than informed brunch was over and they switched to lunch even though the brunch they advertised on their website wasn't supposed to be over until Noon. Table next to us were served brunch while we were sitting there, but we couldn't be accommodated. Be careful if you are going there for brunch even with reservations. We won't be back. read more

My wife and I had the early bird dinner here several times. They have a good selection of early bird entrees for just under $15.00. The service was excellent both times and the food was very good. The portions are large for an early bird special. The cream based Maryland crab soup is tasty, with lots of crab meat. The early bird Black Angus prime rib was crusted with rosemary and was a good portion. It came with mashed potatoes, vegetable medley, along with a dinner salad, and rolls to start the meal. The deserts are excellent. Last time we ordered the waffle and ice cream. It is easily enough for two people. It came with a large warm waffle with two scoops of ice cream, strawberries, blueberries, chocolate, caramel, and whip cream. I attached a photo of the dessert. Food was good and the prix fixed menu was a great deal. The one man band that played in early April was great. My only complaint from early May was that the bar tender charged me $1 more than expected on two different drinks (wine was more than listed on the menu, and martini was more than he told me) ... and he acted like he was doing me a favor by taking $2 off after I may have rolled my eyes at his offer to take off $1 (instead of just apologizing for the confusion and moving on). I realize most summer residents wouldn't notice or care, but to me this was a textbook customer service moment. read more

Every time i have been here me and my friends have been poorly served. We have had the same server many times, and every time she seems to treat us differently because we are young adults. Our server, Kylie, was incredibly rude and walked away mid sentence when we would ask her a question. The manager, Gina, was very defensive and aggressive when confronted about this. Our waitress kept touching the top of our glasses with her hands every time she handed us one. Also, the girl walking around refilling glasses with the pitcher kept touching our glasses with the water pitcher. She leaned the pitcher right against the glass .
