Wanted to like place. Worst service ever. Took 15 minutes to get waters. Drinks from the bar were absolutely horrible. Lemonade was mostly water. Every single food item we ordered was awful. Hot items were cold... crab came with no sauce to dip and was full of shells. The server never came back to check on us after the food was delivered.... Took 35 minutes to get our bill.... Server said she couldn't give us change for $100 because the bar was too backed up. I will give credit to the other waitress who helped me though! This place is right across the street from where I'm staying so I wanted to grab something to go on my walk back from the beach. Even though I was ordering to go I had to go sit at the bar to order instead of the front. Other than that the bartenders were incredible friendly and made sure to offer me water while I waited for the food. The shrimp wrap I got was pretty good but nothing super special. Drake., the bartender, sucks. He was incredibly rude to us. We paid out. We gave him cash. He then changed the price and said it was a different amount. We asked for $2 for a tip and he got upset. After that, he refused to wait on us and was incredibly rude when he decide to give us the time of day. We pretty much fefused to order drinks with him. We made comments about him being rude and he made sure to let the other bartenders know. We work in the bar industry, we get it. We were not incredibly hard to deal with and it was a slow night. Been going to this place for years for a fun night out, but last night, about a half hour before closing, they shut the doors between bar areas and didn't call out last call. My friend had a tab open in the main bar and we were shut into the live music bar, but he wasn't allowed to reenter the main bar and close his tab. They kept his card, refused to give it back, and said it was already in a safe upstairs, even though people were still actively closing out their tabs. They are incredibly rude, and I'm pretty sure they automatically tipped themselves out on his card too. Not even positive if this is legal but the bouncers were totally inappropriate and rude. Such a terrible way to run a business. Beyond that horrible experience, we paid $12 for Surfsides/Statesides. The prices are so out of hand this summer. I've only ever been to the princeton for happy hour/drinks before, and this past weekend we decided to check out the spot for lunch. Unfortunately, I feel that small plates & drinks are the better way to experience this spot...my lunch meal was not prepared very well. Those who ordered from the small plate section had food that turned out better. The broth in my noodle bowl was tasty, and the shrimp were cooked well, but there was so much of the broth that the noodles became completely soggy and I just avoided eating them. Not sure why this place gets such mediocre reviews. Came here two nights in a row for the Thai noodle bowl with blackened shrimp. Highly recommend. Picture doesn't do justice. Caribbean rice bowl with blackened chicken was also good. Mussels with white sauce were really delicious. Peanut butter chocolate pie hit the spot. I didn't want to go here and did not expect a good experience, but I was wrong. This was my first time at the Princeton. It is basically a sports bar ambiance in Avalon. Service by Catherine was very good. We had a table of eight and she did a great job. Everyone liked their food. The French fries do not come with the sandwiches, but don't miss them - they are some of the freshest and best I have tasted. My wife had a salad and thought just ok - but who comes to a sports bar for salad? I had the crab cake salad and it was pretty good. Wanted to like this place. Our waitress was great, but unfortunately that was it. Place was freezing. Not cold, freezing so much the ladies had to put napkins over their shoulders. Manager said she couldn't do anything. Then the food. Ordered twin filet mignon medium rare. Came out cold and well done. I sent back, which I never do, and same exact steaks came back out heated up and more well done. I knew cause I cut in half and came back same. Waitress did right thing and comped it but kitchen and management need major overhauls. Several people had to leave while I waited for my final steak to come out. Was still well but at least edible. The food was amazing, I got a filet minon and it was cooked perfectly . Although the service was awful? It took about an hour for the waiter to come to us. But the food did come out decently fast like fifteen minutes. The ambiance of the restaurant was not great? It was very loud and since there were bars there there was a lot of foul language used. I ate at the Princeton for lunch or dinner about a dozen times in the summer of 2023. The food always tastes great, and the atmosphere is my favorite on 7 Mile Island. But what keeps me coming back so often Is the world-class staff. The hostesses always greet you with a smile. The management led by Pam and Michelle are always a pleasure to catch up with, the bartenders make great drinks and the wait staff is very attentive and courteous. Even though I love all of the servers I've had over the years I want to give a special shout-out to my two favorites Michaela & Sarah. We've stopped for lunch many times over the years. Food had always been good. Not sure what happened to this place. After our most recent lunch on 8/16, that'll be it for us. Ordered the empanadas as a starter to share with the 4 of us. They were 2 of the smallest bite sized empanadas, these were under the small plate category. The chicken sandwich was so thin and made up of mostly breading. My husband ordered the burnt ends and he had to cut all the large pieces of fat off of the meat. The entrées come with nothing. French fries were offered as a side for additional $. It's a shame the ambience and service were nice. It was the pricey lunch and low quality food that will deter us from returning. read more

This place has so much going for it. Prime location, beautiful ambiance, indoor and outdoor seating but the menu just doesn't fit it. I got the shrimp scampi and it was eh to bad. Super overpriced and the sauce was just way too sour tasting. I really wanted to like this place because it is beautiful and the service is good but the food just doesn't hit the way everything else does. My girlfriends and I went to this bar twice over the last two days. We had an amazing bartender with a cute bob who was on the ball, juggling the entire bar by her self. Super kind and checked in on us when she had any free moment. But the second time (last night) we have 2 idiot bartenders MIKE and DRAKE. Who seem to have more attitude when working to get and are extremely unprofessional. I ordered a drink with Drake which he responded "ew" and walked away from me. They were coming on way to strong to my friends and it was alittle weird. At the end of the night when we got the bill we realized they didn't charge us for all the drinks we got. So we tipped them %40. After they took the bill Drake decided to come back over and explained to me how much didn't charge me as I guess my tip wasn't good enough? The dj does take request but only if he likes the song. And besides me and my friends there was only 3 -5 people on the dance floor which so explain to you how good the dj was.... I'm only reading this for the after hours activities. I have never came here for food. I was fairly happy with the bar scene at the Princeton. A bunch of different bars that you can bounce around through as well as a good stage where you can watch live music. If you get there before I believe it's 10 o'clock you don't have to pay cover, which is nice. I will definitely come here to hang out if I was looking for music. This isn't your typical beach, lounging bar though it's more of a standing area that's loud and rambunctious. So if you're looking for something that's a little bit more low-key this probably isn't your spot. read more

However, the presentation was beautiful and was akin to an upscale desert platter- the balsamic reduction was gracefully drizzled across the plate. The honey roasted melon was a refreshing touch and balanced well with the heavy creamy texture of the burrata. Honey roasted figs were as good as honey roasted figs can be. THAI GINGER NOODLE BOWL Portion was small. The carrots, snow peas & red cabbage crowded the soup to the point where I felt like there were more veggies than actual noodles. Tamari vegetable broth was flavorful and good- just wish there were more. FRIES Soggy, not hot and looked like limp pieces of potato. They looked like they were sitting at a buffet all day. Bathrooms were wicked nice. The decor tied in nicely with the bar atmosphere- bring your family, bring your friends. Service was great and our waitress was timely. The vibes were great though! I have a love hate relationship with this place. The Princeton during the day/early evening is completely different from the Princeton at night. If you go for food it's not bad at all but everything is slightly overpriced (but it's Avalon so what do you expect) atmosphere is very nice and casual/dressy attire. I've had the calamari and Buffalo French fries and pot stickers/dumplings and it was all very delicious. At night though the place completely transforms. It gets so crowded you can barely move sometimes and they charge a $10-20 cover which is ridiculous. Sometimes the line to get in will go all the way down the block. They usually have live music and DJs on the weekends, lots of dancing, drunk college students, etc. Very fun place but it can get expensive. The bartender also "lost" my debit card one night and I had to cancel it which was a whole ordeal but I'll live I guess. read more

The Princeton has always been our favorite bar/restaurant but your older hostess is absolutely miserable and not the least bit welcoming. We have also tried on a few occasions to place take out orders but were told they were "too busy" that day. The season is short and you are turning away business? I hope whoever owns the Princeton reads the reviews and reconsiders the person responsible for welcoming guests. Having her as the face of your establishment is not doing you any favors. Please look at your reviews and make some changes. It can't be that difficult to find a kind and welcoming hostess. I went on a weekend, so it was a little tough to find parking in the area - there are a few spots in a small lot outside the restaurant, but they were all taken when I arrived.
