Always great. Nothing fancy or extravagant. Fresh quality seafood at a reasonable price. Fried scallops were excellent --plump, fresh, and juicy. Clam strip was was full of tender fried clam strips. King Crab and Clams were steamed to perfection. The cream of crab soup was just OK for me. It was entirely too heavy on the Sherry. It was all I could taste. I ordered the king crab leg dinner. I received a few crab legs with steamed clams which I didn't order. I don't know what happened here. No explanation upon pick up, and I didn't know it until I got home. Prices, while high for takeout, were certainly lower than a lot of the substandard seafood restaurants in the area. NE Clam Chowder was good, as was the Lobster Mac n' Cheese. Crab Imperial, as an option to crab cakes, was a casserole type dish with good texture, but not a lot of taste. Shrimp Scampi had delicious shrimp but bland pasta. The Dan's Lump Crab Cake (which we had broiled instead of the fried option) was "the best I've ever had" according to my husband. Warning though: Portions are not large. And when I showed up on the exact time they told me, the cashier asked the expeditor if my order was ready, and he snapped back a grouchy "No!" First time, last time. Wasn't worth the expense and the owners make me scratch my head with puzzlement. I walked in, THE ONLY ONE IN THE SHOP, and said I here for my pickup. Standing in front of the counter - looking at the woman at the cash register and saying again, here for my pickup. At this time another person walked in and said he was here for his takeout. They proceeded to get his order and the woman behind the counter asked me to move aside. WTF??!! I'm a professional salesperson- I know how to get a long with people. But that treatment was over the top. So much so, the customer service was terrible. Now, the food? Pass. I was looking forward to some old school seashore seafood and we'll, let's say, I wasn't impressed. The crab soup was like pudding. Really, that thick. I'll give them a ten for the crab fingers. Very small portion- but still delicious. The whole sinner is not something I've experienced in the past. Bottom line, like I wrote in the first sentence- first time, last time. Pardon the pun; but there are plenty of seafood places in Avalon & Stone Harbor that will gladly take my next $130.00/takeout order. If you decide you want seafood in the stone harbor/Avalon area.. take the trip to Cape May. I've been coming to Stone Harbor for 25 years. Safe yourself the aggravation and money. We ordered Shrimp/Scallop combo(24$) 15 little neck clams(12$), and a broiled seafood combo(30$). First off, the Shrimp/scallop combo came with only Shrimp. Second, they forgot our baked potato. Obviously we called to let them know, and ended the conversation with them offering a free meal tomorrow (ok).. now here's the kicker. I open the clams, and find multiple little pieces of what looked like either paper or chewed gum, stuck to the clams and floating around in the clam water. Completely disgusted I decided to make the trip back tonight so they can see for themselves, what they served to paying customers. Upon entering, every single staff member had an attitude. After showing them the clams, they found it funny and were chuckling in the back. They even had the audacity to ask me if I wanted a new batch, which I replied absolutely not I would like a refund. Not only was the food completely disorganized, cold and disgusting.. but they didn't even try to offer a reason/explanation as to why. They just found it funny. We ordered 2 lbs. of steamed shrimp, at the exorbitant Jersey Shore price. Drove from Stone Harbor, past two other takeout seafood places to get here, because last year their shrimp were delicious and perfect. We got the shrimp home, and they were overcooked and rubbery. The large ones were (almost) ok, the smaller ones were terrible. And honestly, we might have been ok if they had handled it better, because we own a business and everyone makes mistakes sometimes. But we called to complain, and the immediate response was indignant. "Best shrimp you can get for the money. Of course they're not overcooked." They WERE overcooked. After pushing back a bit, the grudging response was that we could bring them back. Then they hung up, abruptly. After driving 30 minutes round trip to get these in the first place, the last thing we feel like doing is driving another 30 minutes round trip to get yelled at when we go back, so this gets chalked up to $40 worth of lessons-learned. Prices are reasonable, and they will crack your lobsters for you at no additional cost. We recently stopped here for takeout, which we ended up eating at the table next to the produce stand, and we were so impressed with the food. The staff was friendly and professional and answered our questions. We ordered the lobster dinners, and the lobster was cooked to perfection. It was so delicious, the best we've had in years, probably since our vacation in Maine. The corn that came with it was creamy and flavorful, and the clams were great too. Went here last night and ordered two platters, flounder, scallops, and shrimp with baked potato and corn on the cob. Also order a cup of New England clam chowder. Well, the scallops were undercooked as was the baked potato and the shrimp was overcooked. The chowder was super thin and didn't taste like it had any cream in it. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because my partner liked her flounder. The corn is in the frig so I can't tell you what that's like. We ordered 100 steamers and they were cold, they needed to be microwaved to be edible. In fact, the only thing I ordered that wasn't cold was my lobster roll, which I would expect to be cold! For us, this is the go to place in the area for quality seafood - either for cooking yourself or their platters. The employees have never steered us wrong with suggestions (type or quantity) and Dan, the prior owner who I understand has sold the place, was always up front making sure things were spot on. The new owners seem to have continued to keep up the quality. The quality is as good as you can get retail, I think. We have a summer tradition of lobster "fest". All the family gets together one week-end out of the summer and the house; we do take out lobster platters from here, crab claws, clams, etc., and stuff and drink ourselves in Epicurean delight. Avalon seafood is at the center of that bonding. I'm not sure it would continue to be an annual event if the quality of their "supply" was not as good as what it is. read more

It's just OK. I got a Caesar salad with crab meat. It basically was romain lettuce with soft croutons and a packet of Ken's Caesar dressing on the side. The crab meat on top was good but not worth the $18 price tag. read more
