    Steamers

My family has been ordering lobsters from Avalon Seafood for years. Given that 4th of July was going to be a bit different in the light of pandemic, we decided to order steamers and lobster for a dinner at home. I placed the order by phone two days ahead of time and everything was ready for pick up at the time I needed it. Steamers were SO delicious--not one grain of sand in any of the ones had. Lobsters were perfectly cleaned and cooked.

Always great. Nothing fancy or extravagant. Fresh quality seafood at a reasonable price. Fried scallops were excellent --plump, fresh, and juicy. Clam strip was was full of tender fried clam strips. King Crab and Clams were steamed to perfection. The cream of crab soup was just OK for me. It was entirely too heavy on the Sherry. It was all I could taste. I ordered the king crab leg dinner. I received a few crab legs with steamed clams which I didn't order. I don't know what happened here. No explanation upon pick up, and I didn't know it until I got home. I have had this dinner in the past, and it was all crab legs. Overall my family was very satisfied.

Delicious fresh food on the go! We stopped in here for some takeout on the way out of Avalon and it hit the spot! The portions were large, The service was quick, and the food was fresh and delicious. We also got some fresh seafood to take home. We would definitely stop here again on the next trip.

Take out order of calamari, clam strips and chicken fingers. All were tasty. Calamari was tender and seasoned but marinara was watered down. Chicken fingers were ok but homemade honey mustard was delish. Clam strips were good too. Very friendly staff. Food was good just not OMG I cant wait to go there again. Loved the fresh fish available to cook at home maybe we will try that next time.

We were driving to Avalon for a day trip and were decided to try this place. The food was amazing...lobster rolls and fish tacos were tasty and a nice portion size. Also great customer service...cost was very reasonable!!

Good broiled shrimp and scallops. I tried the crab fingers, awesome. The cost was on the high side but worth it.

Good experience. Fried seafood combo was good. Impressed with shrimp, crab cake, scallops, and cole slaw. Good size portion.

Each dinner includes lobster, clams, corn on the cob, coleslaw, lemon slices and drawn butter. Gentleman that answered phone asked which size lobster 1.50 or 2 pound -- both are $36. I questioned him why the larger wouldn't be more. He said yeah I know it is weird I don't understand but they are same. I've been coming here for 10+ years and food, service and prices have always been stellar. We have the lobster dinners about 2x a month in the summer. Never have they been the same price - questioned him again and said are you sure?? Nope, he said exact same price regardless of size - $36, must be a special. So I ordered 2 of the 2 lb dinners. We arrived at 6:45, checked in and both dinners promptly came out at 7:00. When we went to pay they were $43 each. I asked about my earlier conversation and price/size of $36 each -- they could have cared less. Total bait and switch. Never again. I asked her to look up who took order so they could educate the young man. She did nothing and said oh well. Both dinners were piping hot when we arrived home, Upon opening the containers 1 lobster was 3x as larger. The smaller lobster was over cooked and water logged -- all the meat was mush. The larger lobster was done perfectly. No lemon in one of the dinners and they gave us 5 coleslaws (should have been 2 - (1) for each dinner) and (1) drawn butter for both dinners -- should have been 2. Lobster and clams are not good without drawn butter! Complete waste of money and they've lost my business for life. Sadly, it wasn't even a busy night.

I haven't reviewed them for a reason, I simply have never been impressed (at all). I'll start this with the fact that they really need to change their menu description, putting "fresh" in front of every menu item is silly. Maybe it should say: "previously frozen...now thawed" instead; but I guess that doesn't have the same ring to it. Most of the food over the years has been extremely bland and if breaded it's bought that way and with way too much breading. We have stuck to the seafood options and had most of what's on the menu. A few of the most disappointing have been the "Shrimp from Hell", simply cocktail sauce drizzled with hot sauce, the "Crab Balls" which are mainly breading with a little back fin mixed in, and the calamari which is overbreeded, under seasoned and tough. Some of the tried and true that are decent are the steamed clams, the fried clams (but again thick breading) and surprisingly on this last trip the "Lobster Mac and Cheese" balls. Now first, I'm not expecting high cuisine here, you can literally walk onto the dock with a cooler on wheels and sit at your picnic table. The atmosphere is okay but lack of background music makes it uncomfortable at times (nothing worse than having to listen to the people three tables over discuss their latest doctor's visit). The staff is always great. These two reasons are why they are getting three stars instead of two. I would at least want something that tastes a little better than mediocre at best. In fact, this past visit they actually tasted much better but that's likely due to the fact that we ate in every other seafood restaurant in Sea Isle first, before coming to Mike's. Are they great, nope, not even close. For Sea Isle and the surrounding area's they are towards the top. Needless to say, you can have fun, temper your expectations for good food, enjoy some cocktails and the views.
