Complimentary bread arrived with olive oils and olives, which felt like a small act of kindness in a noisy universe. My wife and I began with a meatball appetizer special, a wise decision that rewarded us immediately. Six petite, tender and rich meatballs, the kind that makes you briefly forgive the invention of fast casual dining. I had the lasagna, layered and comforting, like a well organized memory. She had the chicken parmigiana, which achieved that rare balance of crisp and tender, as if someone in the kitchen still actually cared about cause and effect. Both dishes were executed with confidence, the kind that suggests this kitchen knows exactly what it is doing, even if the room around it is having an identity crisis. The wine was not bad. Not transcendent, not life altering, but entirely capable of doing its job, which is to make you slightly more agreeable to everything. Service was also very good. Attentive without hovering, present without becoming a character in the story. Four stars, because the food and service deserve applause, but the setting feels like dining inside a thought that has not quite been finished.
