First and foremost, the food was excellent. We split a salad and the pasta special, and both tasted fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the insalata mista. However, it almost felt like this restaurant was trying its hardest to make me dislike it despite the delicious food. The hostess seemed to forget about us after we checked in for our reservation and seated several other parties that came after us. After about 10 minutes, I went back up to check on our table and the hostess seemed to have forgotten that we spoke earlier and asked me if I needed anything. We were promptly seated after that. Not really a problem by itself. Our server was very nice and did a great job of convincing us to order the pasta special. We put both items in at once and ate the complimentary bread while we waited. We asked to split the two meals, and they were very accommodating and split the salad in the kitchen for us. The pasta came out on one plate and we had to split it ourselves. There seemed to be sauce under the table from a previous diner that got rubbed onto my shirt. I went to the bathroom to clean it off, only to discover there was no soap. There were at least 4 other people in the bathroom at the same time as me, and to think no one coming out had washed their hands was pretty gross. Anyway, the most expensive pasta on the menu was around $40, so I figured the special would be around that price. Complete rookie mistake on my part for not asking the price before ordering, but I was shocked to receive the bill that our plate of rigatoni and 3 shrimp, 3 scallops, and maybe an ounce of crab meat was $56. Other reviews mention this, but please be aware of the absurd markup on the specials before ordering!! It took an hour for our food to arrive and no one came to check on us during that time or refill our waters, and no one came to check on us after we received our food, only when we were ready for the bill. Our server was nice but not attentive. I tipped what I believed to be a reasonable 15%, considering the disappointing service and very expensive special. In fact, it would've been a 23% tip if we ordered the next most expensive pasta on the menu. But anyway, I was under the impression that 15% is an acceptable amount to tip for mediocre service. I was shocked when our server chased us down on the sidewalk outside the restaurant and confronted us. She was upset that we tipped less than 20% (her words). I told her that I was disappointed by the service and price but really enjoyed the food itself. She just walked away. I spent many years working in food service, and the other person I was eating with currently works in food service, and the two of us were appalled by the complete lack of professionalism. It is never acceptable to chase after a customer. You would've thought we didn't tip at all. It's a shame, because the food here really is delicious. read more

Been in Avalon since July 4th and came here tonight with lots of family. We were visiting from Phoenix, Arizona. Service from Brian and Patrick was great. Loved that we got to sit outside on the patio. Had the pasta special. As much as I love a good seafood pasta dish, I feel that it would've been much better in a lemon white wine sauce. read more

We were a little confused because we probably interacted with 4 different waiters/bussers/hostesses during our dinner. We never really had a consistent person. Sadly another disappointing table location despite making specific location requests on our reservation. Given how often this has happened to us, it seems making a reservation gives you no advantage for a table location over walk-ins. I find that to be crummy customer service. Ambience is extremely loud due to poor acoustics and tables being so close together. Service is friendly but inattentive. Long wait for a server to come by after being seated. Another long wait after ordering to get our appetizer (and then they brought our salads at the same time). We then waited 40+ minutes for entrees after finishing our salads. Our waiter only checked on us when we had food; never coming by during long waits. Food was good but not good enough to overcome everything else. Credit card fee of 3% also disappointing. Prices are high enough to absorb this in my opinion. They state on the bill the 3% is 100% pass through yet every CC charges the restaurant a different fee (Visa vs Amex vs debit card). Il Posto is our favorite restaurant in avalon! They are fabulous year round -- from the food, to the service, everything is wonderful! We enjoyed the calamari and the salad on special which included arugula & cantaloupe to start. The bread is delish as well with the three trio dip they bring you. Then we enjoyed a range of dishes from the short rib pappedelle, vodka rigatoni, seafood special pasta, and short ribs. Everything came out flaming hot & tasted absolutly divine. The service was wonderful. Our waiter remembered us from the last time we visited a couple of months back. He was the perfect balance of attentive when needed but allowed us to enjoy our meal. The restaurant is always extremely clean, perfectly lit for the time of day, and has a great atmosphere. This particular night we ate next to a table with a couple of louder children but once they left there were no other kids in the restaurant. The food was great!! The byo wine situation was odd and should be advised more. If I'm going to an Italian restaurant there is no doubt in my mind if I can get wine. Not a huge deal but might be for others? Main issue that ruined the experience completely for us was the extremely obnoxious family that was sitting next to us. They said they are regulars and always sit in the outside corner by the shark. Very sweet and good kids twin boys and a girl. The kids were not the issue it was the two women who were extremely loud and obnoxious. No self or special awareness for the rest of the restaurant. Understandable that they are used to the corner themselves as "regulars" but in that case we should not have been seated 2 feet away from them when there were other open tables. They seemed like they were going to be leaving soon when we sat down so we didn't ask to move tables but they were there for our entire meal and proceeded to be passive aggressive to us when they left because they could tell we were uncomfortable and could barely even have our own conversation because they were practically screaming. Super rude and off putting. Sad that the other guests ruined the experience for us as it was very nice and pleasant after they left. Thanks for a great meal and the server was so great but sorry other guests caused a bad review :( read more

I had the chicken Parm and the boss had the penne alla vodka. My bro and BIL had the black cod special with risotto. The chicken parm was nondescript. The peas in the penne alla vodka were hard. However, I tried the black cod and it was delicious. However, the price for the special was over 40% more than the highest price fish in the menu - so just be forewarn If I'm going for a simpler meal, I would go elsewhere. But if their specials taste as good as I sampled, then it could be worth the visit, at a price. So I am averaging the old and bad with 3 stars, but it's not an enthusiastic 3. read more

Have frequented several times and almost always a great meal. Love the diversity of the menu. Some of the stand out dishes are the Vitello è Porcini with shrimp, the pappardelle modo mio and the Cozze e Salsiccia. A recent special appetizer- fried burrata with prosciutto and pesto - sounded great but didn't hit. Service is usually great but can also be spotty at times. All in all a great place. read more

I was staying at the Icona and we wanted a nice dinner for our last meal. Il Posto fits the bill. Make sure you have a reservation since it gets busy. The service is a bit slow and our table was lost in the shuffle of the staff dealing with large parties. We had a bit if a wait to order and then a longer one for the food to come out. It loses a star fir the service. The food is delicious. We had the Salmon and Veal. The sauce on the Veal was tasty and really made the dish. read more

I'll Posto is an upscale BYOB in Avalon. We stopped in early on a Saturday during off season. We were quickly seated and met by a server. The space is upscale. There were a number of specials which they explained to us. The pesto that accompanied the bread was a great burst of flavor. We started with the fried calamari which had a wonder drizzle of both balsamic and a red sauce. Both added to the dish in a positive way. We shared a caesar salad which was fairly boiler plate in terms of presentation and flavor. For entrees our kids had linguini and meatballs which is off menu for kids and my wife had risotto far diablo and I had a seafood special with a rose cream sauce. Both were very flavorful with lots of seafood and the special had homemade pasta. Wait staff was attentive. Only downside was price, which was high even by shore standards. We went here for dinner tonight. Here were our thoughts. We showed up around five minutes before our reservation and they were ready to show us to our table. Our waitress was friendly and made sure to check in on us. The atmosphere is nice, but only when you're outside. The inside seating is lacking. The food was some of the best I've had eating out in my life. I got the short ribs and modified the mushroom risotto to plain risotto. The meat was tender and melted in my mouth, while the risotto complemented the meat perfectly. I included pictures of the rest of my family's dishes as well. This is one of the best dinners you can get down the shore...period! There is no shortage of solid Italian restaurants that run from LBI down to Cape May, but Il Posto is one that should be on your list of must tries. The restaurant itself is simple - no thrills, just get your butt in the seat and start eating. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and it is just buzzing. Never a shortage of tables being full...and you can say the same about everyone's bellies too. Big portions, and creative dishes that pay homage to traditional Italian-American dishes. Like their fried Calamari with Raspberry Coulis & Balsamic Sriracha, or their Gnocchi al Tartufo with Brown Butter with Truffle Oil. Everything they served was downright delicious. My personal gauge is through chicken parm, and this is a dish I would go back to get. It is a thin cutlet, and breaded really well. Their sauce was lighter, lacked a little flavor from other Italian restaurant red sauces, but was good nonetheless. Topped with a fair amount of mozzarella cheese, I was very pleased with this dish. Not to mention, the joint is BYO - so make sure you splurge a little get the extra dessert or one of their specials. You can't go wrong here - highly recommend. read more

Il Posto has a lot of great things going for them hence why they were able to expand their restaurant this season. However, with an expansion come some growing pains. We booked a table for 13 people on a Saturday night at 8:45. That's a lot of people so you have to expect some delays in getting food out. The wait staff were all attentive and tried to cater to our needs. This place is BYOB so it works perfectly for a group of 13. We decided to not order apps because it'd be complicated and we also didn't want a lot of time between being sat and getting our entrees. We ordered promptly so we could give the kitchen time to make all 13 of our dishes. I ordered a mushroom truffle soup to start and boy I'm glad I did. The soup was good and had the right balance of truffle...not too light but also not too overpowering, just right. However, we waiting a long time to get our entrees. We all didn't start eating until about 10:15. Felt like we were in Italy with how late we ate! Luckily they didn't sacrifice quality to try and get the entrees out the door. For my main I got the Risotto Fra Diavolo with scallops and shrimp. The risotto and fra diavolo sauce was pretty tasty...would've liked a little more heat but you can't make it too spicy for the masses so I get it. The scallops and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Not overdone but cooked at right temperature. My only feedback would be to season the scallops better. If they weren't hiding behind the fra diavolo sauce, they'd be bland. Just a little bit more salt they'd be perfect. I think Il Posto will figure out now with a bigger restaurant how to output food faster at a high quality. This is a VERY good Italian place. Being Avalon the prices are high but the quality is very good. Especially enjoyed the grilled octopus and squid. We dined at this restaurant last Wednesday. The service was good, the food could have been better. My husband and I both had the veal piccata. It was very thin round pieces of veal (we've never been served veal like it)which had very little taste. The salad was small and was a handful of greens with a few craisins and cheese. It was crowded and noisy - we were stuffed in against a wall. We had a wine cooler next to our table which caused a problem for guests walking to the bathroom - there was very little room between tables. Il Posto has become our favorite restaurant in Avalon. The staff is very welcoming and the servers are friendly and attentive (Erol and Goia are the best!). Last night I started with the shrimp bisque which was spectacular. My husband tried the salad special with pears and almonds. He obviously enjoyed it because he didn't share a bite. He had the Pappardelle a Modo Mio as the main course while I had the Pollo alla Francese. I highly recommend both dishes but we always love each dish that we try especially the Bailey's gelato. This is the 4th or 5th restaurant in the area owned by the same local group. I had a difficult time (again) getting a reservation in any of them (a good sign), until I landed this one. The place was packed, the staff was really hustling but be a bit patient, for the number of patrons they seemed understaffed like a lot of restaurants. LOUD! The food and the service were very good but the entire experience was ruined by our sidewalk seating. Hard to enjoy a meal as people pass by with their dogs sniffing the table and just the general lack of ambience as groups of people try to squeeze by a narrow section of sidewalk. Not to mention the table lighting by streetlight and the headlights of cars coming and going from the adjacent parking spaces. I raised the sidewalk seating with the hostess before we were seated and was told the only other option was indoor seating. But we had reserved outdoor seating and wanted outdoor seating and this sidewalk seating did not exist the last time we ate here.
