Williams-Sonoma in the International Plaza, Tampa
    Bruce K.

Definitely a high-end kitchen shop, with flatware, tableware, cookware, knives, utensils, linens, etc. Staff is quite helpful and the prices are quite high. The store is neatly laid out and the merchandise displays are excellent. Still, I enjoy taking a look through Williams-Sonoma for ideas of what's new in the kitchen and what I might be able to pick up less expensively elsewhere. [Review 10423 overall, 190 of 2019.]

Williams-Sonoma at International Plaza and Bay Street in Tampa is a great place to shop for all things kitchen and cooking items. I really like the quality of items that they have here for relatively good values. The staff here is very welcoming and takes time to make sure that you have all of the assistance that you need.

    It's a tight squeeze inside!

Williams-Sonoma is listed as the premier specialty retailer for gourmet cookware in the United States, but I honestly feel as though the business has not kept pace with the changing needs of their customer base. Chuck Williams founded the original cookware shop in Sonoma, California in 1956, and offered classic French kitchen equipment that had never been seen by many Americans. While I admit that fancy copper cookware is still the rage for many gourmet cooks, the vast majority of us are looking for something more affordable and practical. Williams-Sonoma has chosen to close their stores at the Citrus Park Mall and in Hyde Park Village (likely due to lack of sales), leaving only the store in International Plaza for Bay area shoppers. You'll find WS on the upper level of International Plaza, near Dillard's and opposite the Apple Store. I stopped in recently to search for an Asian steamer set, and to look through their selection of spices. I found the aisles of this store to be cluttered and crowded. It's tough to move around for fear of knocking something off of the shelves. I asked to see the selection of food steamers, and was shown over to the ones costing several hundred dollars. I explained that I was looking for an Asian steamer to make pot stickers, and was told that these would do the trick. When I asked about a bamboo steamer like the ones they show in their catalog I got a blank look from the clerk. Oh well.... no sale for you! Then I walked over to the wall display with their jars of spices and was quite surprised at the prices. $8 - 12 for an ounce and a half of their pre-ground spices seemed excessive to me, and so I left the store empty-handed. No thanks, I know where to find things that are more reasonable in price. Sorry Williams-Sonoma, I like your other brands such as Pottery Barn and West Elm, but you're just too cool for me. I'll continue to order my spices online, and purchase my cookware from a restaurant supply house. No thanks, I won't be back.

The staff are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The Sunday afternoon chef demonstrations are educational and fun. I always learn a new culinary tip to help improve my kitchen skills. The seasonal offerings introduce a wonderful assortment of festive treats. The linens are lovely!

    $300 for some knives, yikes

I think I have found the worst store ever in Tampa after my recent visit to Williams-Sonoma. Bluntly put, its a retail store that peddles cooking equipment for above full retail price. I question how this store exists and how it remains profitable as I can buy the same stuff online for half price. If you are in the market for pots and pans and fine silverware, look anywhere else please and avoid this highway robbery. Save hundreds to thousands furnishing your nice kitchen and avoid Williams-Sonoma

Breville is a must have for delicious waffles!

Complete Failure, Property Damage, and Total Refusal to Take Responsibility…read more This was one of the worst home renovation experiences I've ever had. I spent over $20,000 with Cabinets To Go, who used Sage Surfaces to coordinate installation and hired Ramos Marble and Granite in Saint Petersburg, FL to do the work. What followed was incompetence, damage, and complete disregard for the customer. The problems started immediately. During the first install, Ramos installed the wrong backsplash (4" instead of the full backsplash I ordered). That mistake required everything to be torn out and redone. During the second installation, I stayed in the room specifically because trust was already gone. That decision proved necessary -- I personally watched the installer drag my stove across my floor instead of lifting it, leaving a long, obvious scrape in my new flooring. When I reported the damage, Ramos' operations manager asked for photos, which I sent immediately. A few hours later, she claimed their installer never moved my stove at all -- a statement that was simply untrue. She wasn't there. I was. I then escalated to Cabinets To Go and Sage Surfaces. Both companies said they were "working on it," then did absolutely nothing. No follow-up. No accountability. No compensation. The estimate to repair the damage is $1,800. This entire experience exposed a system where everyone takes your money, no one takes responsibility, and the customer is left paying for contractor damage. For a national brand and a $20K+ purchase, this level of negligence and indifference is unacceptable. If you're considering Cabinets To Go, Sage Surfaces, or Ramos Marble and Granite, understand this: when something goes wrong, you're on your own. I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.

They do have a wonderful selection and some items we would haven't considered had we not stopped in. We picked out some items which we have now taken delivery on. While we were there, we were interested in some higher end items like a steam shower and one of those fancy toilets with a heated seat, automatic everything, and lights. We were told we would be emailed more information on the steam shower. Never got it. I called to check on the email. Told it would be sent shortly; still never got it. We checked spam/junk folders - nope. No communication about order status or follow up from sales person asking if we had questions. I walk in to ask for an order update and 1 piece had been previously delivered to the store and the 2nd had arrived that day. Again, no communication items had been received. I ask for previous email to be sent to my email for review and emphasize that IF we were going to invest in a steam shower we would have to order asap as the shower is currently demoed. AGAIN NO email. I did consider staying until I received the infamous email, but thought I was overreacting. So much for buying local. Bottom line: Great selection. 2 stars Horrendous customer service! 0 stars

I went in expecting something a little more elevated, maybe even a little more unique, something that justified all that visual hype. Instead, the second I walked in, I had instant déjà vu. It felt like I had just walked into Pottery Barn and West Elm at the same time. Same look, same layout, same safe choices. You could swap the store signs and I genuinely don't think anyone would notice. After a few minutes, it stops feeling like browsing and starts feeling like you're looping the same store over and over again. It is still nice to walk through, I will give it that, but this is your reminder not to believe everything you see online.
