My wife and I just purchased a house in Intervale a few months ago. We had heard about the WMCC and decided to give it a try on 9/29/2011. We made a reservation for 7pm earlier in the week. We arrived promptly at 7pm and they seated us right away (there were tables available in the bar and dinning room area). Our server (don't remember her name) came over a few minutes after we had been seated and took a cocktail order. We received out drinks promptly, and then we reviewed the menu. When we were ready we ordered the crab cakes, the cheese, the grilled hearts of romaine all to share. My wife ordered the Butternut Squash Raviolis, and I ordered the Coffee Rubbed Hanger Steak. They delivered each course separately allowing us to enjoy each. They replace small plates, since we were sharing, between each course. The crab cakes were good, although a bit too much bread, and it paired well with the Apple-Fennel salad. We ordered the 3 year aged gouda and the Taleggio. Both were great, but I really liked the aged gouda. The salad was good, we especially liked the apple smoked bacon and the roasted grapes. The Hanger Steak was cooked rare as I ordered it and was tasty. My wife's Raviolis were delicious. Neither one of us had room for dessert, so perhaps next time. We were very happy with everything here. Granted, since we were in the White Mountains and not a major city our expectations were lower than normal. But this restaurant could easily compete in many upscale areas - Portland, ME, Newport, RI or maybe even Napa, CA. The atmosphere was comfortable & casual - perfect for the active vacation meal at the end of the day. The host and our server were professional, competent, attentive and readily available. The beer & wine lists were quite good, something for everyone - all budgets. We started with some cider for our daughter (some of the best she has had!), an Allagash White for my wife and an Allagash Dubbel (a favorite from this brewer) for me. Then came some Truffle Fries which were just right; cooked through and seasoned very well (see picture). Salads were a local special and the cider mill off the menu - both fresh, crisp and delicious. Entrees: Duck Meatballs (technically a starter), Ratatouille, and NY Strip Sirloin with local new potatoes - all sublime. Desserts: warm donuts with a mint chocolate chip ice cream (the latter being a unique & enjoyable real mint, as in fresh from garden - not like a box from the supermarket). Also the Chocolate cake with the same ice cream and raspberry sauce. We will absolutely return here every time we are in the area! read more

Amazing! Had dinner (Party of 4) on a Sunday evening when they first opened (5 pm). We made reservations online through Open Table- which was easy and according to other reviews highly recommended if you choose to eat on a busier night. We had the chicken, duck, scallops and the evening special surf and turf (braised short ribs and shrimp). Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was great. Our waitress was great at checking in without rushing us. She was knowledgeable of the menu and helped me choose when I couldn't make up my mind; because everything sounded so good! Highly recommend the donuts and ice cream for dessert....if you have room! We barely did!! Compliments to the Chef for cooking in season - local- and having spectacular presentation! read more

Took the girlfriend there for dinner, we arrived early but they found us a table anyway. We were greeted warmly and ordered a nice bottle of wine and we started our meal with the crab cakes which were excellent. For dinner I had the pork chop with the delicious mustard sauce, cooked perfect, the meat was plump, juicy and flavorful. My girlfriend had the chicken and pasta dish which she loved, it was served with orchietta pasta, also really tasty. We had the cider donuts for desert, they were served with a scoop of vans lea ice-cream, the perfect ending for a great meal. The service was prompt, professional and friendly. We made a meal of tasty appetizers which are creatively prepared and accurately described by our waitress. Unfortunately when we were through we felt stuffed and unsatisfied. We probably had too much salt and starch. The salads were wonderful as were the mussels. The chips were wonderful and the polenta fries too, but they were too much. I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is! I came in with a large group for a special dinner and not only did they take care of us and make sure we had a delicious meal, but I lost my bracelet while I was there and they packed it up and mailed it back to me in NYC. The hostess was very nice, got us set up at a table and offered to get us drinks while we waited for a table. Two seats opened up at the bar right away so we sat down and ordered. Our roast beef and boursin cheese sandwiches in the deli were too dry. The only thing on the sandwiches besides the roast beef and cheese spread was some lettuce. We had a great meal here, with wonderful service and really interesting and delicious food! We made a reservation for a Saturday night but probably could have gotten away without one, since it's relatively off-season. We had the bacon and blue cheese stuffed dates as a mini bite to start. They were my favorite thing all night. Divine. I had a beer braised pork shoulder with sweet potato puree special, my husband had the duck breast. Both were amazing. The only complaint we had was an 'off' taste to the caramel on our apple cider donuts. Hard to pinpoint, but we both enjoyed the dessert a lot more after we stopped eating the sauce. read more

Maybe the food in the restaurant is better than the food in the deli/store. I sure can't figure out what all the fuss is about. We got some cider donuts and and a half-gallon of cider mid-afternoon yesterday, and we were disappointed. The donuts were not just stale, they were made with the wrong type of batter. The had more the texture of an over-mixed muffin than a cake donut, and were tough and stringy. Plus, they must have been day-old, they were so stale. The cider was a huge disappointment. It tasted twiggy and stale. I am not sure what happened that it wasn't spoiled, but tasted so flat and old. Shouldn't a cider company have outstandingly fresh and tasty cider? I am glad we tried this fare before getting any of their frozen meals to take home. We had considered picking up a chicken pot pie on our way out of town this morning, but decided not to give them any more business after getting stung on the donuts and cider yesterday. read more

Quality, creativity, charm. My wife and I have dined at many of the area's restaurants but this takes first prize. Bar - The bartender is extremely knowledgable about wine, beer, bubbly and their impressive list of cocktails. The bartender is a true mixologist who can explain and teach the ingredients of cocktails with the articulation of an ESPN basketball analyst. After soaking in the quaint farm house atmosphere and conversation with the bartender, we were seated for dinner and greeted promptly by a friendly waitress happy to discuss in detail anything and everything about the menu. Our meals were delicious. I had steak and my wife had a burger. Both were perfectly cooked. We started out with some very tasty sea scallops and a to die for potato and goat cheese soup. The owners are great people and take good care of their customers. We look forward to coming back again and again to try new things on the menu and to simply enjoy the friendly, unpretentious, high quality casual restaurant they have created. read more

We ate dinner in the restaurant. Nice decor. Good service, though we waited a surprisingly long time for deserts. Mediocre bread (crumbly whole wheat?); good butter (room temp so it was easy to spread). Meh. I had the crab cake for appetizer; fun, crispy exterior, but the cake didn't taste like crab and the sauce was cloyingly sweet. Meh. I had the polenta torte for main; the accompaniments (tomato sauce, spinach) were good (flavorful, not too chew-y); but the polenta was completely lacking in polenta flavor---too little salt? Meh. Desert was pathetic; I had what I'd call deconstructed strawberry shortcake---strawberries, cake and whipped cream were just thrown together without any attempt to create yummy bites; cake was dry. Egad! Wines were okay, but nothing special. I had glasses of Sancerre (a bit watery) and Pinot Noir (neither juicy, nor interesting, nor particularly acidic)... Meh. What a find! And thank goodness. After some terrible dining experiences in North Conway over the last couple of days, we found this gem. We liked it so much we ended up returning two nights in a row. Thank you Steve(?) and Liz for such a wonderful time. We came in around 5:30 or 6 the first night without a reservation. They found us a table. We were treated like royalty all night. We started with the Wagyu beef meatballs and the soup of the day. Both were amazing. Perfectly cooked and great presentation. Apps the second night were the Duck and Crab Cakes. Again, perfection. Dinner night 1: We both had salads (heirloom tomato and grilled hearts of romaine). They were both very well made and fresh. Their menu rotates based on the seasons and what is currently fresh. For dinner I had the hanger steak which was cooked perfectly as ordered and my wife had Chicken Confit (chicken leg, thigh, fresh parpadelle, corn, wild mushrooms, including hen of the woods, thyme, and lemon). Dessert was 20 year scoth for me and cider donuts for my bride. Both amazing. Dinner night 2: We had the same salads because they were amazing. I tried the Chicken Confit on this visit and was blown away. I came from a restaurant where we made all of our own pasta, and while theirs is not, it was just as good. My wife had the duck breast with the Mole on the side. Again, simply perfect. Dessert (see night 1). We did have a great bottle of wine with dinner recommended. This is a great place and I wish them the best of luck. Hard to find good dining like this and when your servers and staff are proud to be there, it says a lot. read more

A year ago, I would've given WMCC a five-star rating, I've returned to this region for the hiking but also in hope to relive the delightful experience from last year. Alas, it was not o be. The service, although efficient, was detached and uninvolved. This year, I had a nine-dollar tomatoe and greens salad that turned out to be a few slices of sad tomatoes, a tiny bunch of wiltered roquette and a tasteless vinaigrette. I felt ripped off. This is one of those places that just gets it right...every time. First, it's a 2-in-1. They have a wonderful little café that they call, "The Market" AND an amazing restaurant across the small dirt parking lot. You can pop in the little café shop starting daily at 8AM to grab a delicious breakfast sandwich made fresh to order, an amazing muffin or scone, or just a cup of the best coffee I've ever had anywhere north of Laconia (I selected the dark roast). The Market also has Gourmet Foods, Sandwiches, Meals-To-Go, Cider, Cider Donuts, Specialty Foods, & Unique Gift Items, Cooking Classes, and much more. A great little shop. As far as the restaurant, I am kicking myself for waiting so long to try it. The reviews are spot on because the food is excellent. Nothing run of the mill here. All of the apps and entrées are literally amazing filled with flavors that dancing around your tongue with the skill of Gene Kelly. The love and creativity that goes into the food is center stage no matter what you order. The prices are very reasonable too. I ordered almost half the menu and my check was only $101. True, I didn't order any of the pricier entrées like Chicken or Steak but I did expect to pay more for this level of quality. I started with Truffled Parmesan French Fries, and the Bacon and Bleu Cheese stuffed dates. Both were so delicious that I could have eaten just those all night. Instead of moving right along to the entrées, I ordered my second course of Beets & Pickled Strawberries with Pine Nuts, Labneh (a cream cheese like treat made from yogurt), and Za'atar. I also had to try the Asparagus Goat Cheese Pie with Caramelized Onions and Aleppo Pepper. They were both a wonderful journey into the mind and palette of what is obviously a very well trained expert chef. I'm not a fan of beets, and this chef somehow removed the earthy beet flavor that I don't like from the beets and replaced it with a surprisingly wonderful smorgasbord of flavors. For the 3rd course, we then went for the Cider Mill Salad which was perfectly dressed (so rare) with Crispy Shallots, Green Apples, Pecans, and a freshly made Cider Vinaigrette. For the 4th course, we chose the Cider Mill Burger with Bacon, Portabella, Cabot Cheddar, Tomato Chutney, Greens, and French Fries on the side. We asked for it to be cut in half and it arrived in style, each half nesting in its own basket with its own handful of fries. The burger was perfectly cooked and delicious. Hands' down the best burger I've ever had in the White Mountain area. We finished with the Warm Cider Donuts & Ice Cream with Homemade Caramel Sauce. One bite and it was clear that it really was homemade caramel, not what most places use, that squeeze bottle of caramel flavored sugar. Think incredible apple crisp but instead of apples and crumb topping, it was cider donuts as the main event. Their cider donuts are great btw. No extra sugar so that the flavors are the star of the show, not the sugar. One big problem we had was that there is no kids menu, which is really lame. You can't add a kiddie pasta or mac and cheese to the menu? Seriously? Also the waitress never checked on us at all. She never asked how the food was or if we needed anything. The only time we saw her was when she delivered the food and the bill and even then she was half way gone each time while I was still talking as if she had something on the stove about to boil over. That was inexcusable. But that aside, I give the place a solid A for the food. It would be an A+ if they added a couple kids' menu items. Are they trying to discourage families with kids from coming? If so, that is a big mistake, especially 5 minutes from Storyland, IMHO. read more

I had the good fortune of enjoying a wonderful wedding rehearsal dinner at WMCC. The setting is beautiful/cozy updated New England farmhouse. The food was superb. The butternut squash mulligatawny soup was savory, sweet, spicy and delicious. Homemade pumpkin pasta with chicken was served with just the right amount of mouthwatering pan sauce. The perfect finish was a homemade cider donut topped with vanilla ice cream and fresh caramel sauce. My vegan-ish wife was equally pleased (they made her an awesome poached pear dessert). I know everything tastes better when you're not paying, but I would gladly fork over a significant amount of cash to go back to WMCC if I'm back in the area. Five Stars. read more
