The White Lion Pub would be easily missed when driving nearby. If not for Yelp, we never would have taken notice of it as it's a Tudor style house nestled in foliage between a couple of office buildings. Parking wasn't too difficult as they have a small lot and one of the two adjacent lots is available on weekends. When we first walked in, we kind of thought what in the world have we gotten ourselves into!? It's cute and quaint and well-appointed, but we stood in the entry for several minutes with staff passing by. Finally, they acknowledged and seated us and things improved tenfold. The super energetic server was a delight and seemed truly skilled at her job. My husband's gin and tonic was on point and the server recommended the brown bitter for me, which was fantastic. Our food was excellent. He had the fish and chips with mushy peas. They bring HP sauce and vinegar to every table so that was perfect. I opted for the Cornwall Special and enjoyed the best pasty I've had to date. While I've never been to England, I've had some pretty good pasties in Michigan's U.P. and at other British-style restaurants...but this one was better. Perfect puff pastry and plenty of beef, onion & carrot filling, with a glaze of brown gravy. The fries were tender and perfect potatoes - I could not get over how much I liked them (not typically a big fry fan). My meal was rounded out with plain ol' frozen peas, which were okay. This is a perfect place to bring friends or family or even colleagues. I personally don't think younger kids have a place here as it's very dark and cozy and has the true pub feel. You are so close to fellow diners that conversations kind of blend together and everyone is heard. Sometimes that might be annoying, but on our visit it just added to the charm! The glorious cozy atmosphere made the (slightly on the high side) prices seem very fair. We will definitely be back!! read more

In town on business and looking for something different. I found this place and had a great time. Converted downstairs of a house and what a pub should be. Great beer, great conversation and the owner is fantastic. We just sat and talked, felt like talking to family. I'm definitely going back next time I'm in town. Oh, and No televisions to distract from the atmosphere. read more

We absolutely love this hidden gem! It's perfect for a casual date night or just hanging out with friends. The food is spot on!! All fresh ingredients and the cottage pie is the absolute best dish! They have a stocked bar for cocktails and tons of beer selections with an amazing bar tender! Overall 10 out of 10 in all categories! read more

Food was wonderful. Service is great and I love the atmosphere. Highly recommend. We made reservations for a Saturday night. We had the fish and chips and Taste of the Midlands. read more

Mediocre at best. Cutesy Devore but the food is not great. The peas were pretty fresh and the potatoes, chips, were good. I had the Cottage pie and my friend had fish and chips. We left unimpressed. Did get some genuine snotty British service which was fun. read more

Great food and experience. Authentic British grub. I look forward to making this my local.

Great food and drink from across the pond. The atmosphere is top notch. I'm not English, but I feel like it after 30 minutes inside this place. read more

My favorites remain chicken pie and bangers and mash. Love the atmosphere--feels like an old English cottage. I've never had bad service there. read more

This place is amazing! The surroundings are relaxing, food is amazing and they have an delicious beer called 'Brown Bitter' that is a new favorite. This is our go to place for Valentines, birthdays and Christmas. My fiancé prefers the Lancashire (steak and mushroom with brown sauce pie), while I usually go for the Devonshire (chicken and mushroom in white sauce). Aside from the food, the staff are always kind and welcoming. Can't say enough wonderful things about this place! read more

I visited the white lion pub while on holiday from scotland and it felt like home. The decor was very much like a british pub and the food was delicious pub grub classics like fish and chips and sausage and mash, brown gravy and HP sauce. The staff were very friendly and had typical british humour which some may find offensive but I would definately reccommend, not just because I'm british but because it is a great little pub and it is a real authentic British pub. read more

This is an old English pub. I had a couple beers and their sausage rolls. The beer that they make in-house is good. The sausage rolls are good. Atmosphere is good, just like walking into an English pub. The service was good and it's a unique place. read more

As a business traveler I am always looking for unique places to dine and hang out. I'm in the road over 150 nights per year which equals a lot of eating "out". This is by far one of the coolest and most unique places I have ever been. Ask about the history and the decor (many pieces from Liverpool). Made the mistake of admitting I'm a Man U fan. The food tasted like a a home cooked meal (which as a roadie I crave). Try the Beef Wellington. Ask for Peter or Craig. They will make you feel at home! read more

We finally got a chance to try this place and we enjoyed our dinner! The decor and atmosphere make you feel like you are in a true pub in England. Our waiter was the owner and he was a delight. He was very helpful to us in the selection of beers, drinks, apps, dinner, and desserts. We had fish & chips, meat pies, sausage roll appetizer and pie dessert. The food was good, service was excellent, and our visit with the owner was fun and informative. We will be back! read more

I almost hate to write this review because I want to keep it my little secret, but White Lion is what I would consider to be a true Tulsa gem. Tucked discreetly behind other shops just off 71st St facing Quik Trip, you have to know what you are looking for to find this place. The White Lion is as authentic as it gets when I comes to an English pub with a dimly-lit, yet warm and cozy atmosphere. The place is owned and run by an English woman and her family. During our last visit, we were served by Peter, the owner's nephew, who was extremely friendly, funny and helpful with the menu. He told us some great jokes, answered all of our menu questions and corrected our mispronunciations. ;-) I would suggest the baked Brie and sausage rolls, as well as the Shepard's Pie...all pair well with any of the beers on the menu. I highly recommend this place on a cold winter night when all you want is to cozy up next to the warm fire with a foamy ale and some authentic English comfort food. Mum will take good care of you and Peter will ensure that a good time is had by all. :-) **Just an FYI, The White Lion is closed on Mondays. read more

Wow...I admit walking in my expectations were low and I kept singing "when the children cry" and "wait" but it turned out it wasn't an 80's band place but rather an amazing British pub. You feel like you're in someone's home in England. Pictures on the site don't do it justice, it's really like nothing I've been to. The food was good, I got fish and chips which were ok, and my wife got some Brie which she loved. The staff was fun and attentive and kept rubbing me the whole time. Definitely somewhere worth checking out, it may become a regular stop for me when I'm in Tulsa. read more

White Lion - Always good to see the queen. - British Near Me - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Mushy peas!!!! Went here with a buddy of mine who hails from southern England because I wanted the 411 on whether or not this place had an authentic English feel or not. He was pretty happy with the place, his Guiness was very smooth and the pint of brown bitters we had was very good. He also was quite happy with the food and condiments provided especially the HP sauce. My problem with English food is that to me it is quite bland. I got a pasty and while it was cooked correctly it was bland. The service was great, and the beer was excellent. My buddy said the decor reminded him of some small town pubs in northen England read more

The atmosphere is great - a nice place to relax with friends. I had The Devonshire which was delicious! However, my friend had a chicken sandwhich which she thought was plain. Apparently the place fills up quick in the late afternoon so it's best to make a reservation! read more

White Lion - The Devonshire...so good!! - British Near Me - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Authentic English pub is a Tulsa staple. All your favorite ales on tap as you'd expect in a fine pub. Obvious the fish and chips would be outstanding, even if the mushy peas take some adjusting to! The pasty's and baked Brie app are also excellent. Be sure to call and reserve your favorite nook for dinner! read more

I spent a summer in London on a working holiday, and I have to say this place is just about as authentic as you'd ever see state-side! The gentleman who owns the place was our server, and nice as can be. We were there for an early-ish dinner on a Wednesday and the place was about empty so we had almost his full attention. He was very personable and told some great stories. Ordered a round of beers while we looked through the menu. Just about anything you could ask for as far as British food: fish & chips (obviously), a couple types of pasties/meat pies, etc etc. I had the Cornwall, which was a pasty with beef, onions, carrots and gravy, served with peas and chips (of the "fries" variety). PERFECT! Paired it with a Fuller's ESB and I was back in the UK! At the end of our meal, the owner came by and offered a piece of chocolate cake on the house. This was the most gorgeous, moist and fudgey (without being heavy) cake I've had in a long time. Served warm and covered with fudge and whipped cream, it was a great end to the meal. 100% will go back next time I'm in Tulsa! read more

Oh, how I miss the White Lion! It almost makes me want to move back to Oklahoma...almost. First thing one notices is the amazing ambiance. It is in a little Tudor style house. The small tables are in the various small rooms. The lighting is very low...I am a sucker for dimly lit restaurants. Second, the beer selection. I can't even find a John Courage in Texas, but they have it there. Finally, the food. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I loved the food. The various meat pies were sooooo tasty. They did have grease, but yummy grease. I have never found another spinach dip appetizer that I loved so much. To be honest, it sorts of looks like baby food, but it tastes great. To me, the portions are not small...they are just the right size for one meal, not two or three. read more

The White Lion is in a small white house near the intersection of 71st and Yale. As a result it is easy to overlook, but as you step into the place under the Union Jack, it really feels like you are going into a real neighborhood pub in the UK. The decor and atmosphere are cozy and laid back, and the general "authenticity" of the place makes you want to like the place. (I put "authenticity" in quotes because I've never actually *been* to a pub in the UK, so I'm not qualified to say if it is really authentic or not.) With that kind of atmosphere and a wide range of beers you probably haven't heard of, you can't help but enjoy yourself there. The problem I have with the place is the food. Portion sizes are small and the food tends to be quite greasy. "Taste of the Midlands" is a sort of shepherd's pie they do there, and always highly recommended by friends, but the oil from the cheese sits in pools on top of the food when it comes out to you. Other dishes I have tried there (because I do want to like going there) were bland and unremarkable. I don't know what to tell anyone to get, other than the baked brie appetizer which is amazing. Verdict: Go for the atmosphere and the beer with your friends. Have some baked brie if you get the munchies later. Get dinner somewhere else before you go though. read more

White Lion is probably one of my favorite places in Tulsa. It is an English pub that has a great atmosphere for a relaxed night out. their baked brie is a must every time I go. It is quieter and smaller than most pubs I've been to. I am really impressed with the staff and the environment they have made there. I do have a couple friends that have been there and said they did not like it, but they didn't eat and are also people that usually go to loud bars with music. This is chill place to grab a drink and talk or have a meal. I was going to give it a 4 but did not know where it could improve . read more

This is the most authentic English pub i have set foot in outside of England. The fish and chips and mushy peas were the best i have ever had. And who doesn't love strawberry rhubard pie in a bowl of warm cream. The owners and i talked football (that's soccer to locals) and the owner showed me around and talked about his collection of Liverpool items. In short, great traditional English fare and the friendliest people you will meet. It is a must stop if you are in Tulsa. read more

Very friendly people for a guy out of state. Food was absolutely fantastic. Recommend the brown bitter mixed beer and the midland. Easily one of my new favorite small places in Tulsa! The owner is very nice and from Liverpool. Their family works most of the positions during the summer when off from college. The owners are great. She walks around in an apron serving and he is a great bartender. They actually live upstairs. It's in an old house so it's a bit cozy, dark and segmented. Their front room is filled with house furniture and called the Churchill room. If you can snag it with friends it's a fantastic place to hang out. Parking is limited behind so you may have to park across the street. read more

Run by Peter and his aunt the White Lion seems totally out of place in sprawling Tulsa, and that makes it all the more special. Very cozy and inviting and all things British. No microbrews, no cheeseburgers; only traditional pub fare. The owners are super friendly and enjoy a conversation when it's a bit more quiet at the end if the night. read more

Quaint awesome British pub in Tulsa! Feels as authentic as can be for not being in the UK. Great food, pints. Try a steak and kidney pie! Ploughman's lunch! Great appetizers. If you go to White Lion, only go for the drinks and the atmosphere. The pub was charming, well decorated and cozy, but on a Saturday night for early dining, over half the tables are either too small to fit more than a drink and a napkin, or they have already been reserved. The food was awful and the portions were miniscule. The sausage roll appetizer was the size of tator tots. The 'bangers' for dinner could be easily mistaken for two breakfast sausages. The gravy in my chicken pie was like water. I knew we were not going to be happy when they brought out 'dinner' on toddler size plates. After kicking the heck out of $60 for 1 glass of ale and 2 dinners, my husband went home and raided the refrigerator for leftovers. Don't come hungry, that's my advice. read more

Really cool English Pub. Owner lives upstairs and came from Liverpool. Family works there, everyone was very friendly. Other customers seemed friendly too. The fish and chips were really good as advertised by others on Yelp. Beer was good too, nice selection. Full bar as well. It has a really great atmosphere. Small rooms, very cozy ambiance. Appetizer of cheeses and crackers was a little bit of a let down...half a sleeve of ritz with 4 cheeses. Meals of beef eater burger and devonshire pot pie (chicken and mushrooms) were good. Asked for one of the apple ciders from Britain featured on their coasters and was told they dont carry it. Id go again just for the setting, but it could use some tweaks. read more

Step quite literally from Tulsa into a English Pub when you come in. Order a pint of Brown Bitter. Fish and chips are authentic and delicious. Splurge on dessert with a selection of pies made daily. Went there with my Caucasian SO. Awful food. Cold, overpriced. Somewhat tasteless. Not welcoming unless one is of the right appearance, if you catch my drift., at least that was my experience and impression, since i could see the contrast between how we were treated and others. Sad really. Pretentious collection of every tawdry bit of made in Asia British fake antiquary one could find west of the Mississippi. Avoid big time. Unless you like that sort of past. read more
