Hubby & I enjoyed an outstanding dinner at this contemporary diner. Our server was lovely as she took her time to explain featured menu dishes and cocktails. We had the orange margaritas which was a nice twist from the classic margarita, & for our entrees we had the meatloaf dinner & hot turkey. Yum! Let me emphasize that this is not your average diner. Everything was freshly prepared and we could definitely taste and appreciate the farm-to-table quality as everything was exquisite. So White Lily repeats the time-tested Leslieville formula of: small space + traditional made from scratch dishes + one hour wait = an amazing brunch experience Three of us came for a sunday Brunch. We put our number on a list and wondered off in search of agood cup of coffee (which isn't really a problem in Leslieville). After about 40 minutes we got a call about our table being ready and returned to this cozy little diner. The space is clean (alebit small) with only a handful of tables. The waitstaff seem to know what they are doing and are very friendly and professional. The food is excellent. Everything at White Lily is made in-house and made well. From the jams, to the breads, to the smoked meat, you can taste the quality in every bite. We tried a nubmer of sandwitches (the patty melt, the club and the pastrami) as well as a ceasar salad, a pancake and a traditional breakfast. Of the sandwitches, my favorate was the melt. It came with a yummy relish which still triggers a salivation reflex, every time I think about it. The melt is closely followed closely by the pastrami which was impressively stacked between two slices of rye. The club sanwitch was also excellent with the turkey being particularly juicy and flavourfull. However, I think a little bit less turkey and perhaps another vegetable would have actually made for a better balance. The breakfast was exactly as it should be; an excellent hashbrown (not soaked in oil as I expected it to be), fresh eggs and crispy house-smoked bacon. The pancake was also well preapred. It had that perfect airy flavour and a distnic "home-made" feel about it. It is a little bit smaller than you would expect but we over-ordered in terms of the overall number of dishes, so the portion actually worked out. White Lily also makes donuts (because of course they do!). I took a half-dozen to go and found them to be fresh, fluflly and not overly sweet. A truly amazing lunch experience! There was a waitlist upon arrival, but we got lucky enough to score two seats at the bar. It was a windy Saturday morning and obviously I ventured out for brunch. There was a bit of a wait but it wasn't too bad, we were seated in 15 minutes. The only complaint I have is the smell that was stuck on me after eating there, I guess that's the problem with the open kitchen concept. I had heard about the rave reviews from others and was excited to try it for myself. My boyfriend and I stopped by White Lily Diner at around 11:30am on a Sunday morning. Once ordered, the food came at reasonable time. These are the items we ordered: - Doughnuts of the day - they are baked in house and a great little bite to start or end the meal. Hands down the chocolate peanut butter donut won. - Juice of the day - I ordered the juice of the day which consisted of beets, carrots, lemons, ginger, and apples. Great refreshing juice with a good kick to it (from the ginger). - Breakfast sandwich - thick cut bacon, sunny egg, tomato, mayo, lettuce on country white bread. - Pastrami sandwich, with sour pickle and deli mustard on rye. Overall, the food is solid and delicious; I had the breakfast sandwich and it was filling; the thick cut bacon was heavenly. The bread they use amazing held the sandwich together and didn't get soggy from the mayo they used. I never ate grits before this meal. For all the Asians out there wondering what grits tastes like, it's pretty much like a thick congee. Haha. The biscuit was full of fluffy, buttery goodness. The fermented greens looked suspiciously like bok choy. No regrets ordering this dish. Absolutely loved it! Buttermilk griddle cakes: nice, thick pancakes. Not the fluffy type of pancake, but still very delicious. Hashbrown: thinly grated into fine strands, but served as one big hashbrown. Incredibly crisp! So glad we ordered a side of this dish! Caesar-ish: A salad consisting of kale & dandelion. This salad pretty much confirms I still don't like the taste of dandelion. We were randomly looking for a place that had all day breakfast options. The White Lily feels very warm with exposed brick and low light. The staff was personable, warm and knowledgeable about the menu. We came in for dinner although they are known for their brunch. We ordered the special of the day (perogies), side of hashbrown, the lily breakfast and the dessert pudding. The perogies were the best I have ever had!!! The hashbrowns were great with a fantastic presentation. The White Lily Breakfast with mushrooms was nice, the mushrooms themselves tasted fantastic. For dessert, the caramel pudding was quite nice. The first time I went I got seated right away however I tried to go again on a Saturday and there was 7 reservations ahead of me. But don't tell LOL While I've never had grits before today, the taste is kind of reminiscent to that of congee/mashed potatoes with gravy. While that may not have done it much justice, it was pretty good! The Hot Turkey (not to be mistaken with the hot turkey club) was very tasty according to my eating companion. My boyfriend and I randomly stumbled upon this place. He ordered the White Lily standard breakfast and I ordered the hot turkey. It was a little odd eating French toast with gravy but my boyfriend really liked it. I think it needed more cranberries or something sweet to balance out the meal but it was an interesting dish. His standard breakfast was also good. We can never leave a place without trying dessert. We got the coconut cream jar o'pie. Grits are not my favourite thing, but I still liked the Southern Breakfast. Substituted the gravy for the creamy sausage gravy (additional $1.50), with no regrets. The soft, moist, black pepper-specked biscuit was perfect for soaking up the gravy, though it was so delicious that I could've just devoured the biscuit on its own. Was impressed by the eggs, for which I asked for over easy. They arrived absolutely perfect: solid white on the outside and a golden liquid yolk with no visible drippy egg whites. The eggs in my partner's Patty Melt was equally well done, and the sandwich came skewered with a toothpick on the opposite side of the eggs, so as not to pierce the precious egg yolks. Would recommend ordering the doughnuts early on, if you plan to get one, because they seem to sell out quickly. The kitchen had just finished a fresh batch, and I managed the snag one of the last boston creams, which had an ample amount of delicious, still-warm custard inside a chocolate-slicked doughnut tempered with the slightest dust of salt. This time, although service was friendly, they made some errors - for example, didn't tell us what was sold out until we ordered it from the menu (hate that). The menu reads confusingly -- it says "biscuits. Gravy" (you get both, but there's a period) but also "bacon. Sausage" but you have to pick one or the other, you don't get both. Need to be more careful with their punctuation and presentation. While my Reuben was mighty, there's no way it was worth $17. I think $13 is more reasonable for a sandwich.
