    French toast

. This place is a classic in the community but im disappointed stopped in Saturday morning & first thing is no bags & no takeout containers . Food was on a plate in a box .I ordered French toast, potatoes & eckrich sausage. I got bread slices smashed made into French toast I guess , hot dog as my sausage & potatoes was red like ketchup was already mixed & very soggy. Y'all fell off bad . close down & reopen once y'all got it together. Need a new cook yesterday

This is my go to place for home cooked breakfast. You don't have to wait long for your food or if you call ahead of time it's ready for you to pick it up. You can't dine in, you have to take your food to go. The staff is friendly, as I have been going here for years. The parking is street parking but it's not hard to find parking. I really like how quick I get my food. I always get pancakes, bacon, home fries, and eckridge sausage and it is amazing every time. If you want home cooked breakfast, come here.

My friend asked if I was hungry and he knows that I love breakfast food so he was like we'll stop here for breakfast. Upon walking up I was praying that the food was as good as the other Yelp reviews and was pleasantly surprised. The reviews didn't disappoint...my main meal option is french toast, cheese eggs and bacon w/ a fruit punch...it's so good, I can go meatless! My friend always opts for 2 turkey sausage with cheese sandwiches...he tears them up, lol I have tried their pancakes and was not impressed, so I'll stick with the French toast, but judge for yourself! I do wish they had salmon cakes though...maybe I'll suggest it the next time I'm there.

This is going to be one of those places that not too many people will go to because certain people may consider it to be in a "sketchy" area. I am still trying to figure out what that means as some people seem to lock up and are at a loss for words when I ask them to define what makes a neighborhood "sketchy". Anyway. I decided to try this place out one morning since it was only about five minutes from where I worked when my job took me to the Federal Center in Washington DC. It is actually one of a few places in this area that serves up really good food (Pimentos, Seafood Market Deli) in the Coral Hills/Penn Branch/Benning Ridge neighborhoods. I decided to go with takeout on this day. As I waited in the place looking at the menu you can either go with one of their numbered specials or choose your own combinations. I could tell that there were the usual locals in here as many people were coming in and the cashier was calling out their orders or just saying "the same" to them. I decide to go with one of their meals and added a side of scrapple to it. In the end I had eggs, a half smoke, French toast, home style potatoes, and scrapple. Yes, I am sure your arteries are hardening as mines were that day. Still it was so good. Even though I took it to go it was still warm once I got to my destination. There is always a heavy rotation of customers so so your food will always come out hot and just cooked. This place will not win any awards on presentation but what it lacks on appearance it makes up on that local neighborhood store good food and appeal. Prices are very reasonable and you can even pick up the newest movie releases from the lady in the corner. A good breakfast spot in this area of DC to try out. It is almost an experience in itself. Parking can be tight as it is all street parking in a mixture of houses and businesses.

We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and it was completely empty. The cook was sitting at one of the tables and the waitress was behind the bar (they don't serve alcohol) hoping someone would come in. There is an upstairs and a downstairs. We did not go downstairs but I'm assuming there are plenty of seats like upstairs. We ordered the hangry breakfast, which came with French toast, eggs and potatoes, the salmon burger and the chicken & waffles. It's a good thing we ordered so much becaus the chicken and waffles only comes with 4 wingettes. We ordered water but were told they were out of ice. Instead my wife ordered a $4 CANNED SODA because that is the only thing they had cold. $4 for a can is insane by the way. Since we were the only ones in the establishment we expected the food to come quickly but that seemed to take 20-25 minutes as well. Our food eventually arrived. The French toast was good. Flavorful but small. Sandwhich bag slices of bread. The potatoes were clearly from the Walmart frozen foot section. The eggs were ok. My wife's waffle was cool however the chicken was BLAND and SEASONLESS. We didn't even finish them. For $18 I expected more. The salmon burger was by far the best thing there. A thick cut of salmon that was flavorful. We should have gotten two of those. The waitress was nice. The food is overpriced. I should have known when we walked in and the place was empty. Not sure how they stay open having brunch without alcohol but to each is own. One and done for me as a neighborhood guy. The food isn't great and the prices are high. No reason to return.

I'm happy they have a kids menu because there's no way these babies would've been able to finish an entree. Beware the kids menu notes a 7 and under age limit. Two of the kids had fried chicken and fries, they said it was tasty. I tasted a fry and it was crispy and freshly dropped. I had the fried fish and grits. The fish was crispy and juicy, just a tad over salted. The grits were creamy and balanced. Also my lavender lemonade was tasty too! One of the older kids snagged the chicken Cajun pasta. She didn't like the chicken but really enjoyed pasta. I gave the pasta a bite and wasn't a fan of the flavor profile so left her meal alone lol. We then ended the meal with the butter cake. Unfortunately it had a sour taste so I sent it back, I was disappointed for sure.

From the outside, it has that classic, full-fledged American diner look and once you walk in, it absolutely delivers on that vibe. The place is clean, welcoming, and has a really nice atmosphere. The menu has a ton of options, so there's something for everyone. For our meal, we ordered the French toast and the shrimp and grits, and for an appetizer, we tried the spinach rolls which were honestly fantastic and a standout item. There was a small mix-up with my drink, I ordered orange juice but received apple juice instead but it wasn't a big deal, and everything else came out great. The diner also offers a variety of beverages, including alcoholic options, coffee, hot chocolate, and more, though we stuck with breakfast drinks this time. Pricing can be a bit on the higher side depending on what you order. For two people, our breakfast came out to around $68, but considering the quality of the food, service, and overall experience, it felt worth it. We sat inside but stepped out onto the balcony to take pictures and take in the incredible views of Washington, D.C., and the Capitol. It's the kind of place that should be a reliable go-to for a group looking to catch sunset drinks before dinner. We made a reservation for eight, which turned out to be completely unnecessary given how empty it was when we arrived. After getting seated, 15 minutes passed without a single server coming by. Not a water drop, not an acknowledgment, nothing. A few of us eventually walked up to the host stand and asked if we could just order drinks at the bar while we caught the last of the sunset on the patio. Even that took far longer than it should have. This isn't a packed Friday night situation where you chalk it up to volume. The place was largely empty. The bar was slow regardless. We made it back to the table. Another 15 minutes before anyone came by to offer water or take drink orders. At that point, we looked at the limited snack menu, decided dinner was happening elsewhere, and let the host know we were leaving. The one server who did eventually stop by apologized and volunteered that the bar was just slow to get drinks out. At least someone said it out loud. The number of empty tables confirmed that plenty of other people had already figured this out on their own. The setting here is genuinely good. The views are real, the space is well-designed, and there's no reason this shouldn't work. But the service infrastructure clearly can't support even a moderately sized group on a slow night, which is a significant problem for a place marketing itself as an events and reservations venue. You can't charge Navy Yard prices and run a bar that moves at this pace. Wouldn't go back unless something has visibly changed.
