I did a cool pasta-making class here. The instructor was an actual restaurant chef who had studied pasta in Italy, and his expertise really came through with the plethora of tips and explanations he shared. Everything is well-prepared for you and the kitchen space is just fantastic. Class was well-paced and during breaks, there was minimal upselling by the staff which I appreciated (although the store is well worth a browsing if you are a serious culinary hobbyist). They weren't stingy with the wine and appetizers, or with the food portions. Final meal was filling and tasted amazing. read more

The chef was highly knowledgeable and was great at explaining the reasoning behind the cooking. He started the class with a quick history on ramen and I loved that because it adds a level of respect to the food you are cooking. The class was intimate-there was about 8 people in total. Each of us worked in pairs and had a work station. It was very well organized and the staff was on top of everything. They were very friendly. My mom and I had such a fabulous experience at Whisk. We opted to attend a Vietnamese street food class, where we learned some delicious new recipes and gained hands-on experience preparing them. We were each given our own materials to prepare the ingredients and cooked them ourselves on our own stovetop. It was fun to interact with the participants around us, and could easily reach the chef or an assistant with our questions at any time. Afterwards, we enjoyed looking through the shop and never felt pressured to make purchases-- though we personally chose to with so many quality/useful products available. The owners of this shop are very friendly and want to ensure you've had a good experience. We feel that the price was very reasonable for the experience received. My partner and I had a fantastic experience learning AND eating at Whisk! We came here to celebrate his birthday, and I couldn't have asked for a better cooking lesson! We learned how to make Dim Sum. The instructor was very professional. He weaved interesting origin stories in between the instructions and kept the experience light-hearted yet informative. The students had plenty of hands on cooking experience without the annoying dish washing or grocery shopping. Each station had perfectly portioned ingredients, washed and ready to be cooked. We made roughly 5 dishes overall. The best part? We got to reap what we sowed by blissfully enjoying our own makings with a glass of wine, plus plenty of extra to take home. My kids gave me a gift certificate for a Whisk class and after considering the many and varied options I happily chose the Croissant class. What a fun afternoon! Pastry Chef Thanh Tang is a gifted instructor who made the steps seem simple and did a great job demonstrating techniques. The hands-on class was punctuated by frequent laughter and enhanced by the thoughtfully arranged classroom. We were standing for the entire class so if that would be a challenge for you be sure to give the store a call; they're very helpful. This is by far one of my favorite girls night out! The recipes, the level of professionalism is 5 star. I signed up before Christmas for a pasta making class on Feb 17th for me and my wife, and I completely forgot until getting a text from a random person 10 mins after the class started. I apologized and asked if there was any way to reschedule or even get on a wait list, but was told they "couldn't possibly reschedule all the no-shows". PRO TIP: If you have that many no-shows, how about using a reservation system that sends reminders BEFORE the event! You know, like ever restaurant in the country, every concert, dentist appointment, haircut, etc! I purchased the croissant making course for my mother and I to take for her Mother's Day present. I was a little bit apprehensive about the price, but it was worth every penny. Parking was free underneath the Meyden building. It was a little bit confusing because there are signs that say you have to pay or that you only get 3 hours free. FYI This class was on a Saturday morning at 11 a.m. I didn't have to take a timed ticket to enter the garage. I parked in the clearly marked retail section. On our way into the building there was a kiosk where you could pay but I skipped it, and you should too. If you're there for retail purposes, you don't need a ticket or validation. The store is bright and well-appointed with lovely and fancy kitchen items. The staff greets you and checks you in quickly for your class. Everyone is very nice and friendly. There was a fruit platter and pound cake for snacks in case anyone got hungry throughout the two and a half hour class. You are escorted to your station, given an apron and a name tag. If you are there with an odd number of people, you'll have to be split up because each station is for two people and you work in pairs. Everything is pre-measured and laid out in front of you. They do an excellent job of cleaning up in between lessons and tasks. Our instructor, Thanh, was very friendly and upbeat. I learned a lot from him. For our particular course, we performed all of the steps out of order because it takes so long to make the dough. In fact, the dough that we baked was actually made over a month ago by a previous class. Regardless, we learned everything we needed to do, and every part was hands-on. We were also given a recipe booklet, which Thanh went over with us, in detail. At the end, we took home all of our croissants, approximately 4 of each flavor: ham and cheese, chocolate, and plain. I have to say that these were by far and away the best croissants I have ever had. After making them from scratch, I don't think I will ever buy them from a bakery or even frozen from Trader Joe's again. They are THAT good. Life changing. We had such a great time that we are already planning our next class. You also get a 15% off discount in the store on the day of your class. They have some very nice things, some of which you use during the class (which gives you the opportunity to road test the items before purchase). I love a good cooking class and Whisk definitely checks all of the boxes. We have taken two classes and look forward to more. The thing that puts Whisk ahead of the competition, in my mind, is how well hosted you feel throughout the experience. When we arrived, the shop owners greeted us warmly and helped us get settled, as if we were dinning in their home. Classes are relatively small and everyone has good workspace so it feels like a more intimate evening. Staff are fun and knowledgeable. The space is well designed and easy to use. Our hosts and the staff checked in regularly, throughout the evening, answering questions and making conversation. We had an amazing meal and headed home with a bag of leftovers and packet of recipes we are excited to add to our cooking rotation. read more

I had the opportunity to take the paella class here recently. So fun! To start, we checked in and then browsed the store while everyone else arrived. The store is gorgeous and very well-curated for the experienced cook. I was stunned to see Mauviel jam pans on display, along with the rest of the Mauviel line - these pans are simply the best, bar none. There were lots of cookbooks and assorted kitchen tools, all of similar high quality. A great place to shop for your favorite chef friend. The class is held in the back room, which is beautifully equipped and spacious. We were served wine or sangria, and sampled several Spanish appetizers over introductions and an overview from the instructor. All the appetizers were delicious! I was a little disappointed the recipes weren't included in the handout for the class. The class was definitely fun and informative - the instructor was lively and knowledgeable - though I wasn't as hands-on as I've been in other cooking classes. This might have been a function of the wine, though. I did learn how to beard a mussel, which was a new - and not difficult! - skill for me. The atmosphere was very much "cooking party" and not intimidating, which is nice for all levels. The class I took was complimentary, but I've taken quite a few cooking classes at various places, and I'd certainly take another one at Whisk. And there's no question I'll be back to shop for more pans and gifts in the fantastic store. read more

I've taken cooking classes all around town for years, and this is by far the highest quality experience I've had. Great setup for a hands-on cooking class (can't stress this enough), wonderful instructors and support team, delicious recipes - which you get to enjoy before you go home! I'm an experienced home cook, and generally feel comfortable in the kitchen. But I always pick up useful tips, interesting information and a few great recipes, and have a very fun time in the class. They have some interesting cooking ware, teas, and kind of reminded me a little of Sur La Table but the wares they have seemed more organic and holistic in a way. I'd never taken a cooking class in my life, but when my wife and I stopped in to check out Whisk, they were having a class on classic Italian cooking that night. Our evening plans had fallen through, so we decided to try it. I'm glad we did! We were met with glasses of Italian wine, which certainly got us started on the right foot. We learned to make chicken piccata, fresh pasta (without a pasta machine - it was way easier than I thought!), a fresh green salad, and a molten chocolate cake. Iole is a great chef and teacher. She made me feel very comfortable and confident while I was learning. The kitchen is very well stocked with all the tools we needed, and they are very high quality. It was a joy to have all that space and to do the cooking ourselves. This isn't just a "watch me" type of class - you make all the food yourself with the instructor's guidance. When we sat down to eat what we'd cooked, it was amazing. Seriously, you would probably spend about as much for that meal in a restaurant, but we got the experience of making it ourselves. I highly recommend Whisk for cooking classes. Whisk also has great high-quality cookware and food products in their store. read more

I love cooking classes and thanks to Yelp, I was able to take the Paella class at Whisk! Having frequented other cooking classes, I would say Whisk has one of the best retail storefronts with a variety of cookbooks, kitchen equipment, serving ware, tea, oils, and salts. In the beginning of the class, we were provided with a delicious crostini, spanish tortilla and patatas bravas with aioli (and plenty of wine and sangria). This kept us satiated until dinner at 8:30. After a quick introduction of Whisk, and the instructor Yary who was a real hoot, we were thrown into cooking flan. It would have been nice to go over the recipe packet so we knew what was expected and timeline. The recipes were not overly difficult, but did require hands-on cutting and cooking. We learned some nice cutting tips from Yary. Although we were broken up into four groups, we didn't really get to interact with the other teams but we made fast friends within our team. It was nice to have our own cooking station. After all the cooking was done, we were asked to move to the store to talk and shop (we were provided a discount that could be applied to any store purchases) while they set up for dinner. When we returned to the cooking area, all of the food was plated and the cooking area was cleaned up which was nice. The food that we made was delicious and what was even better was that we got to pack up our leftovers to bring home. In other cooking classes, it usually is a minimum of 3.5 hours but there is more depth into learning how to make something from scratch, however, Whisk serves a good purpose of having more of a leisurely experience. Definitely a fun option for date night or a fun activity on a weekday or weekend with friends or family. read more

My 2 adult kids, their respective husband and girlfriend and I attended the paella and flan class 2/16. It was my Christmas present to them and we had a blast. We have done many cooking classes in the Puget Sound area and this was the best one BY FAR! Most of the classes don't let you touch a knife or god forbid the stove for fear you'll hurt yourself . Here we all had knives, we all used the gas stove. It was a true cooking class, not just a 'watch someone else cook' class. Very nice appetizers were served along with never ending wine. Yes, you're on your feet for a couple hours but I never even noticed it because we were having such a good time. When the paella and flan were done, we ate and ate and still had plenty of leftovers to take home. Highly recommend Whisk. We will definitely be coming back here for another class. read more

This was our first time taking a cooking class at Whisk and it won't be our last. We had an amazing time!!! They had everything prepped and pre measured ahead of time so we could enjoy the instruction, cooking, and each other. The entire staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. Just took the Local Harvest cooking class here at Whisk recently and it was a wonderful experience. The instructor was very informative on all aspects of the cooking. She pointed out the reason fall/winter vegetables look a certain way and how to cut them for the best flavor and presentation. I've been chopping kale for years and still learned a better way to do it. There were some challenging portions including making our own ravioli, but the demonstration and guidance made it fun and achievable. On top of that, all the food was delicious and we got to enjoy it all at the end and even had some leftovers. The owners were in the kitchen with us, assisting and encouraging and you can tell they truly care about the experience. As a cooking shop, they also had great items for sale. read more

Seeking a baking challenge, I took the Croissant Workshop and was beyond impressed with the experience. The workshop format is immersive, with step-by-step demos and hands-on prep. Our instructor, Thahn, was awesome; he was engaging and personable, and thoroughly explained the method (and science) behind the madness. The workshop lasted three hours and culminated with participants enjoying fresh-from-the-oven croissants and boxing up extras to take home. I went for a paella class yesterday. The place is amazing, the kitchen is huge with multiple stoves and ovens so you can actually have a true hands on class. The event was very well organized, they offered a nice appetizer and drinks. Yari was our instructor and she did an amazing job, we were able to make a delicious paella! Prices are GREAT considering you get snack, drinks, 2hr.cooking class, you eat what you cook and then you take home the leftovers!
