Sure it's nice to indulge in take out but that's just not financially feasible (at least not for all of us anyways) every day. I have turn much of my attention to investing in kitchen appliance and supplies. One could say, hey, that's also very expensive. Sure but in addition to the nice shiny new toy you bought, you also discover a new appreciation for how difficult/challenging it is to create all those little somethings you enjoy eating on your nights out. To get you started, we here in Seattle are very fortunate to have the Seattle Restaurant Store. It's a store meant for restaurant owners but open for retail so you can go in a pick out something for your home kitchen. This stuff is sturdy, not the most aesthetically pleasing but you know the quality is good. I came in looking for a baking pan - low and behold I found what I was looking for. I first shopped here when I was a pastry school student, also when I worked in the restaurant industry, and now as a home cook....wow it's been 15 years now, plus it's close to home. Shops like Sur La Table, Mrs. Cooks, and Williams Sonoma are great, however, if you want straightforward, high quality, long lasting items without the fancy prices, I urge you to stop in. I've bought pots, pans, kitchen gadgets, various utensils, specialty baking items, linens, and knives over the years. Plus they provide excellent customer service and also allow you to take your time wandering the store or perusing the various choices of an item. Yesterday, I called and inquired about ricers (to make gnocchi) and received detailed information about what was available and prices for each. Today, I decided to stop in, was greeted immediately upon entry, and shown where the ricers were located. Got the ricer that would suit my needs, but also a pasta maker (better deal than even eBay), and a gnocchi board (from Fante's...didn't even have to go to South Philly to get my Italian culinary store fix). Plus got a free sturdy shopping bag and a grinder that was mentioned via their recent online ad (I signed up earlier to receive their emails), which was a great added bonus after spending nearly $160. Despite that I didn't have a printed ad (no printer at home), no smart phone (to prove I received the email), and I'm not on Facebook, one of their associates honored the receipt of the free grinder ($20 value). All recent interactions, whether by phone or in person, demonstrated that Seattle Restaurant Store goes out of their way to provide outstanding customer service. Plus it helps they have ample parking spaces in their private lot and one can shop, be in/out in a reasonable amount of time, unless you daydream about outfitting your dream kitchen and dawdle a bit longer. Wearing a food service uniform, I was ignored trying to get help. Tried to find myself and failed. No smiles, no greeting or farewells, just scowls and studiously looking aeay or looking busy. Two of three employees not wearing masks properly, perhaps thair vision and hearing were impaired. Stopped by to pick up a baking sheet and a couple Cambro containers. They have a ton of stuff and I wish I could have bought more! The place is pretty big and the selection is great. This is definitely a place to go for most of your kitchenware. FYI, a full baking sheet is just a couple inches too big to fit in your average sized oven. :( read more

Of course, you'll need to buy 3 dozen glasses, so that might be an issue. Also, you need to remember that it's really selling commercial stuff, so the lids to the pans are separate. I stocked my kitchen when I first moved to Seattle at this place. They also do knife sharpening and the staff are super friendly. Definitely recommend this shopping spot. read more

I luv this place, we don't really buy much here unless we are looking for a specialty item or professional grade skillets on the rare occasion. This place is HUGE, as Maria notes, and the staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. If you need some help ask them at the front counter if you are in a rush I suggest you ask first, you could get lost in this place. If you are like me and just want to shop around without someone hanging on shirt tail this is the place. I really like looking at the "used" section and drool, if and when we remodel our kitchen I'm coming here to get my new/used professional gas range. My wife likes to bake cookies and she wanted a certain size scoop to enable her to make more uniform cookies, this place has about a dozen different sizes all professional grade and built like a tank! Way more selection than the mega-mart kitchen and bath supply stores! You can find a deal but you may have to hunt for it, well worth the effort and it's kinda fun. Plenty of parking and it's easy to figure if they are open or not, if they aren't the gate across the entrance is closed and seals off the parking lot. Off this morning to start the process of stocking a small apartment in Portland we rented to stop paying Portland Hotel prices. So for the first time in many years I am stocking a kitchen from scratch since we are not actually moving, more like camping. And the first place to go is here. We have been buying from these people for years- first from their place on Eastlake and now at their shoreline store- we often just drop by on our way to Central Market. We like the prices and their used stuff is always a great deal- a kenwood mixer for 150.00. Restaurant shelves for 50.00. We got a great deal on a boos maple/stainless steel pastry table, a small stainless steel hand-washing station for a very very small bathroom. A number of prep sinks, (perfect for outdoor potting sheds and laundry rooms) springform pans, a variety of smalls- mashers, turners, spoons, kitchen towels. The staff are all easy to work with and very helpful. If you want a decorator fancy kitchen to impress your friends this probably isn't the place . If you love to cook and impress your cook/friends this definitely the place. If I didn't have one of the old pro- wolf stoves built like tanks I would be checking out their selection and it's the place for that glass fronted fridge. Love, love, love this place. read more

Here is yet another place where you can get a glass front fridge so your teenager can stare at the food for hours without actually opening the door. I don't know why we didn't get one when our kids were teens, it would probably have paid for itself in electricity savings! Maybe you need to slice up that spit roasted pig. You are in luck here they have large commercial slicers! And a oven almost big enough to stuff that pig in if you get rained out. The staff is helpful and knowledgable. They have a large used section and a few scratch and dent items thrown in. As a side note, I just picked up a new convection oven there. They were very helpful, and even worked out a delivery deal so I didn't have to return with my jeep. They won't do this a standard policy, I was just lucky that one of the employees had a big enough car and lived near Pizza Works. read more

When I went to cooking classes a couple years ago, I always came here to get my supplies and advice. I told them where I went to classes, and they gave me student discount. The day before Xmas Eve shopping is probably not good. And, yes, when I entered into their parking lot, it was full of cars. I really thought it's going to take me a while. However, I was able to get in and out within 10 minutes and got what I needed, a Turkey Pan. The staff there were nice and I have to say they are not sale driven. If you're into cooking, you're doing yourself a disservice by not heading to Seattle Restaurant Store. While it's meant for wholesale/restaurant supply, it's open to the public. Unless you own an eatery you'll likely have no use for the industrial-sized mixers and ovens and such, but it's a HUGE building with a huge amount of stuff, DIRT CHEAP. For example, you can get metal tart pans with removable bottoms, of a variety of sizes, for about $1-3 each. Tons of pans, gadgets and other things you'd use, at a fraction of the price. Lots of the brands you won't recognize, but they're the ones that nice restaurants tend to use, so it's even better. Also a large selection of knives, bar-ware, everything you can think of. Their hours are a little odd (not open Sundays, close early each day) but definitely worth a visit. Staff is super nice, and you can even drop off your knives for razor-sharp, professional sharpening. There's really no reason to go to any other cooking store. read more

Went to the Seattle Restaurant Store and was helped by Linda Pruzan. Very helpful, knew the products and all the options. Asked the right questions and I ended up getting exactly the right gear for the job. Tons of new gear that is organized and easy to find. Some used gear in the back. Helpful, honest staff. If your a restaurant owner, a serious foodie, or just looking to explore the wonders of the the food service world, this is a great store. Why only 3 stars? Great store. Incredible selection. Some items can be pricy, but there are screaming deals to be found. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and patient whether your kitchen needs are large or small. Even though I live in the South side of Seattle, I'll make the trip up here every time I need to buy something new because their prices are reasonable, the people they hire are knowledgeable and friendly, the overall selection is impressive (as I've found random items here that Dick's, Empire, or Cash and Carry didn't stock)... and whenever I've looked for an item that was hard to find (such as a pickling jug), if they didn't have it, they'd point me in the right direction locally (or online, if no-one carries it locally). Basically they have a fantastic mix of equipment that could potentially satiate the desire of anyone, regardless of whether or not you're in a professional or home kitchen. read more

Really cool store, I went there to get some knives sharpened but I ended up walking the whole store. This store has a great selection of everything you need for a kitchen. I always thought this store was only for commercial customers, but as usual when I'm wrong (of course, that's not often) I wanted to kick myself when I found out it's open to the public. This place is ENORMOUS and full of new and used ktichen stuff - and you usually can't even tell when it's used. There are plenty of commercial supplies, and even though I want a house and kitchen big enough one day to hold a deli display case (for real) and they have them here for sale, it'll have to wait. In the meantime, there are lots and lots of kitchenware things, pots, pans, etc. and linens and some of them are a screaming deal. Others not so much. Yet another treasure hunt kind of place. The nice thing is though that a lot of the prices are not only comparable to stuff you'd find at a regular kitchen store, but most of this stuff is commercial grade so the durability alone is worth paying a little extra. Ordered tons of equipment from here, sales man was helpful. Said it was going to ship in on Monday, Monday came along and no calls. I called Tuesday, left a message. No answer. Called a couple times over the next couple days and no answer. Final got a hold of a manager and two weeks later and got a call back for the sales man instantly.
