I had a problem with a freezer manufacturer, and the out-of-state company refused to accept any responsibility. Since I bought the expensive unit at Dick's, I went to the store to discuss it with the manager, Dirk Happee. The two of us worked out a fair resolution to the problem, and for that I am thankful. I own a small food processing business and have bought a lot of equipment from Dick's over the years. Went yesterday because I needed some food grade grease to maintain my kitchen aid mixer. The guy (owner?) was very kind, listened to what I needed, walked me to an isle and showed me a product that could be the one I needed. It wasn't really, so he asked more questions and when he understood what I needed, he kindly suggested I visit a small appliance store nearby. The whole interaction was pleasant and helpful, I left the place with a very positive vibe. On top of that, while walking the isles, I spotted so many things I need for my cooking and baking, so I'll definitely be back. Will post photos next time. read more

The project I had assumed would've taken the better half of a week was completed in just 2 hours, thanks to Andrew! Starting from an extremely helpful call, I was able to get confirmation that all the parts I needed for my rolling wire rack was in store and ready to be picked up. I would've left a 5 star rating after I got instructions on how to cut the pipes down to size and where to buy the tool, but upon noticing there was 30 minutes left until they closed for the day, Andrew walked me back to the tool shed and we got the job done then and there. 5 star attention to customer satisfaction, 5 star service, 5 star humanity. I had no idea Dick's had another 2 stores. Apparently there's enough Dick's to go around. The moms wanted to buy a "few items" for her shop and wanted to check out Dick's. I highly recommend it from my first visit. This sounds bad... I checked out their website and they close on weekends, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out they had another 2 stores and the one in Bellevue was open on Saturdays. Dirk Happee, yes he was quite joyful and attentive. We were greeted at the door and within a few minutes we were approached. Dirk was very helpful and resourceful. There were a few convection ovens we were looking at. The sweet deal you can find here is that you can get up to a $1,000 energy rebates on these energy efficient ovens from Puget Sound Energy, Seattle Light, Snohomish County PUD, Tacoma Power, Cascade Gas or your local utility company. BUT the best part is that you don't have to wait for the rebate to come in the mail 6 months later. Dirk will do all the paperwork for you and knock off the rebate on the day of the sale. No paperwork to send and it's an instant discount. Dirk and Dicks received an award. "In September of 2008, Dick's Restaurant Supply was honored to receive the Power Player of the Year award from Seattle City Light and Puget Sound Energy. This award is bestowed upon the person or company that has the greatest impact on energy savings for that year." I think this is pretty cool. We bought a couple ovens and a Salamander broiler. I have to say the Salamander Broiler came at a sweet deal. We shopped around and this was the best deal we found. The store... the store is pretty well stocked. We found all the miscellaneous kitchen utensils we were looking for. If you don't own a restaurant or a shop this place is still for you. They have some pretty awesome grill and your everyday kitchenware. We did spend a pretty buck in here, but I have to say we didn't feel like we were scammed or pushed into a deal we didn't want to make. Dirk pretty much left us to ourselves and let us decide whether we were going to be buyers that day or not. I almost forgot to mention their website. Dirk said he just finished the website after a year. If you go in there you will find everything you need from all the vendors he uses organized by vendors and type and then detailed down to all the specs and numbers needed to place an order. Great resource if you've ever shopped for restaurant equipment and supply. We probably won't be back in a while considering how much we spent, but they're a great resource for parts. Good stuff. Lots of selection and a wide range of prices to boot. Everything from cheap-but-functional to serious-kitchen expensive stuff. I was looking for a chinois, and not only was their selection great but I was blown away by the sheer number of strainer options in all shapes & sizes. And kitchen knives - great selection of quality gear for the professional kitchen or home cook hobbyist. Nice to have a location on the Eastside too - that's gotta be worth a point on its own. read more

4/12/12 We bought a new Blender, 48 OZ for our kitchen. When we opened the box and checked the blender carefully, we found that some small peaces are strewed from the Blender's bottom. We decided to return the Blender. When we came to the store and told about the defect we have found, a sale guy said, that the blender was used and smell Margarita (We don't drink any kind of alcohol drinks!!!) and he will contact his boss. I left the blender at the store and left my sell number. Nobody called me within a month. My husband drove to the store and spoke with a sale person, who said Dick will call us tomorrow and the blender is under repair..... Two months passed. No calls... Terrible service. Stay away from their store and never buy anything! read more

If you like cooking, or just want some good gear that isn't endorsed by celebrity chefs and just works, a restaurant supply store is a necessity. Dick's has a good selection of stuff for any home cook. I have bought knives, cake pans, assorted tools, and a china hat strainer from this place and have been very happy with everything. As with most supply stores their prices are reasonable, and when compared to overpriced sets and such at big stores, its hard to complain. You will almost always get better stuff here too. The staff also seems to know whats going on if you have any questions or looking to order something specific. Havent really looked to much into the big items on the other side of the store, but it would seem they have a good outlay of big appliances. read more

I'm always greeted when I walk in, and if not, i'm often approached to check if i'm in need of any assitance. i also really like this store because its very clean and organized! Ive bought 3 round cake pans since i moved here a few months ago, and don't have any complaints about them! They are of great material, and the prices were great! They don't carry doilies, but told me cash & carry had them.. and they did! read more

I'll start with the bad news just to get it out of the way. As soon as I walked into the store, I saw a closed circle of three employees talking about their private lives. They did not greet me, they didn't even look at me. When I went to checkout they were still in that same circle and did not acknowledge that I was ready for checkout for at least 10 seconds, and as I was checking out they kept talking about the things that they should keep out of the workplace. The good news is I love their selection of restaurant quality pots, pans, linens, etc. It's all very organized and well-priced. I will be back again for their amazing products. read more

Don't go to Dick's for kitchen appliances if you're not a business owner. At least, that's what Dirk Happee flatly told me. Maybe it's because I'm a girl in my early 20s and looked too young/girly to ever buy anything commercial grade or over the cost of a pack of gum. But Dirk Happee provided the lamest customer service I have experienced to date. Some background information: I was referred to Dick's by my realtor to buy a commercial grade oven for my new house (the kitchen space is made for a 40"+ stove). After I explained why I came to their store looking for a gas range, according to Dirk Happee, the only ranges they carry are "power toolman ovens that men love, but women don't like them because they're not self-cleaning." He also explained that they simply do not sell kitchen appliances to residential homeowners anymore because their sales declined over 70% when they tried to move in that direction and that "it's a business model" to only sell to business owners where they can make more profit. Sure, that made sense -- the other comment did not. If they really had nothing available to sell to me, Dirk could have just said so. His additional comments and remarks were disrespectful. Just to note, there was another sales associate that was trying to be very helpful and he was very polite. Unfortunately, Dirk entered the conversation and decided to be a dick. read more
