My husband is almost as nosy as I am when it comes to discovering new places. So when he said he…read morewanted to check out this new grocery store near southcenter, I was aghast to learn that there had been one under my nose this whole time. When he pulled into the parking lot, I knew exactly why I had missed it previously. Not only is the parking lot pretty narrow and single aisled, the concrete-blocked storefront itself is not obvious. I would assume it would be maybe the corporate office for the postal service or something similar. But definitely not a grocery store. With that being said, the storefront was clearly open and was easy to access. They had carts that were also easy to access, the aisles were clean and organized, although it was a 50/50 shot on value. It really depends on what you're looking for. But for the most part, protein sold in bulk was a great deal, along with other bulk goods like beans, pasta, grains, etc. I didn't really see that great of a discount on smaller individual items like spices or beverages, or even produce. Checking out was simple. Everyone made a single file line down and waited to cashiers to become available. Since the single file goes down the store to the right, it was difficult to see the cashiers. We waited about 10 minutes to be checked out. I'm not entirely sure if mostly working with other food service vendors and workers changes anything for the cashiers here, but I felt that it did lend a bit of a detached air from what you and I are used to in a more public grocery store. The employees, although they acknowledged everyone, were did not appear to manage the line (i.e.: calling out when a checker is ready, instead waiting for the customer to approach them), welcome or greet customers. They were having a few side conversations that halted traffic for a bit, but we have just arrived in time for a shift change, breaks, or something else similar. All in all, I felt the opportunity cost of all things given was enough to definitely return in the future. We made out like a bat out of hell with the bulk frozen ahi tuna and we'll be eating delicious dinner for the next couple weeks!

This happened at a us foods event and not at a store. I felt this needed to be addressed. Minutes…read moreafter arriving i was interrogated by some quasi manager for us foods. This was an open house for vendors that use us foods and I was invited and had tickets. For some odd reason this middle-aged dude was very interested in me and what I was doing. I saw him talking about me even and keeping an eye on me. Oddly enough he had no interest in the less than classy people whom brought their entire family, friends, even small children. The same person then approached again and called me a liar about where I worked (i did make something up because I thought he was making smalltalk, but i surely didnt need to justify my presense because no one else did)said "oh so you're just here for the free food " while im wearing $800 shoes and he looked his clothes came from the goodwill. At that point I laughed and walked away to leave. I went to grab my bag that was behind a table and some other member of the help said "dude you've had enough". The trailer park people shoveling food like hippos were never once talked to by anyone. I was watching to see. Clearly these members of the help have a problem with African American people. I will never shop at a US foods store and will tell my business owner friends whom are brown to do the same. I would like this very serious matter to be addressed ASAP.

Wismettac is the conglomerate parent company of big brands Shirakiku, Mum's (a Hawaii-exclusive)…read moreand China Sea (Chinese products). They're also the exclusive distributor of Asahi beer. Other products they sell include food ingredients, sake, shochu, cutlery, food packing supplies, fresh produce, even roach traps. MISO SOUP: The Miko Brand of instant miso soup can be found at most grocery stores. I bought from Costco, which sells their soup with tofu. Tear open the packets of miso paste and dehydrated garnishments (tofu, seaweed and green onions), add 3/4 cup of hot water and you're done! Personally, I think the tofu has the nastiest taste (like the smell of old plastic ware) so I pick them out and add fresh tofu or white rice instead. The tiny bits of seaweed grow about 10 times their size after being hydrated. It's the perfect light breakfast, hangover remedy or chicken noodle soup alternative when you're feeling under the weather. ROACH TRAPS: The Hoy Hoy brand of roach traps are great. The super sticky floor of the "motel" often traps more than disgusting cockroaches, baiting them with a perforated bag of food in the center. Toss when there's no vacancy. TOILET DROPS: Drop 1 - 2 drops in the toilet prior to doing your biz. The concentrated liquid forms a scented layer and barrier on the water's surface that's supposed to mask the stench. I'd say it's 95% effective! OVERALL: Skim the back of your Asian product packaging and you're more than likely to see the Wismettac name.

Working with Brian Novak at United Wholesale Supply Inc was a true pleasure. Brian came out to my…read morehouse with a couple of colleagues, to see what my home looked like before my remodel and to measure and discuss my cabinetry needs for my kitchen, laundry room and bathrooms. Although there were a few missing components when we opened all of the packaging containing the cabinetry, Brian made sure everything was as it should be in the end and got me everything I asked and paid for with no argument. He even made a few deliveries himself. Brian was professional, extremely knowledgeable and helpful when I had questions or concerns. He had me come up to his office / warehouse location to look at some examples of what United had to offer, which I would recommend others do as well. He "always" responded back to me when I sent an email or called even when he was ill or on vacation. He explained things when I didn't understand so I could contemplate what I wanted, and we could go forward from there. When the remodel was complete, Brian and his colleague, Jade Hemmings, came out with a professional photographer (at my convenience) and took photographs. Jade made sure I was given copies of the photos taken, which was sincerely appreciated. I would highly recommend United Wholesale Supply Inc and anyone lucky enough to have Brian as their sales associate, would be lucky to have him.
