Continuing with my theme of giving 1 stars to fast food restaurants which ask for tips.... Please avoid this place. I've actually been a fan since I lived in Austin, and have been meaning to come to this location now for months. I was excited to finally try it, I order, get to the front, and notice a tip line on the receipt. Utterly ridiculous. Here's the thing - I come from a service industry background, and appreciate both good service and tipping where appropriate. Fast food restaurants that ask for tips are simply asking you - the customer - to subsidize the cost of their business by not paying their staff a fair wage. I'm not sure if this is a Which Wich corporate policy or a policy of this store. If corporate, I apologize for the poor review of a locally owned business. If this is a local decision, shame on you. So, business owner, here's a tutorial on tipping: If your staff are providing service that could vary based on staff decisions, or if tipping is traditional, then a tip line is appropriate. If, however, excellence is simply expected, tipping is wildly out of line. As an example, housekeepers should never be tipped unless they provide a service that is different from average cleaning. Think about it - is "half clean" appropriate? Would you tip someone for actually fully cleaning your toilet, as opposed to only a partial clean? If your housekeeping staff, though, removes your baby's dirty diapers thrice daily, a tip may be in order. The staff here are nice. Service was fast. The place was clean. But, here's the essential question: Is any of this above any beyond? Do you expect, owner, for your staff to provide mediocre service with a flat affect in a moderately clean restaurant, then expect me to be impressed that when your place is clean, then tip? Finally, you're asking me to provide a tip BEFORE you provide an service. Even if you thought your staff deserved to be tipped, how can I know that before the service is provided? Leave a tip jar on the counter where people can come up afterward. Long review, apologies, but customers need to stop standing up to this nonsense. Which Wich? serves subs which are pretty ordinary to begin with but they put a unique spin on the whole process. I was a W.W. junkie while attending the U. You walk in and instead of going to a counter to order as usually is the norm, you fill out your order on a paper bag. The choices are endless and the service is pretty fast. Actually really fast. From giving the employee your bag to having sub-in-hand is only a few minutes on average. The main point I want to make with the Wich is the choices are endless. If you're tired of the same old sub shop with the basic meats, simple veg, barely any condiments besides mayo, mustard, and a balsamic whatchamahaveit, head over to the University location in the Bricklight or their Paseo location by Wendy's and Jiffy Lube. They do have prebuilt sammies in their Faves & Wicked sections but the whole concept of the shop is B.Y.O. subs. Don't go against the flow, participate and be in the know. Grab a bag and a Sharpie and let your gut lead the way! Start by choosing your bread White or Wheat (Yes, I am from South Georgia where they still eat White, but for your own healthy future, get wheat) and what size your gut needs to get full, the Regular 7", Large 10", or Super 14". As has become custom across the sandwich creation industry, you can turn any sub into a wrap or a salad. I've tried the Spinachwrap style, not half bad. Continue on with your bagabananza choosing everything you want to go on your sub. Get as many toppings as you want or as little as you want. Forget little though my friend, what is this? Little Shop of Hors d'oeuvres? Pile it on there. Part of the fun in going to Which Wich is seeing if the wrapper fella behind the counter can get your food in the bag. If you're wondering, people do put obnoxious names on the bag, wich I am a fan of, just keep it high-brow, there are probably children present. Not too sure about the Paseo location but the U one has great outdoor seating and you are right across the street from the campus so I recommend taking your food and a friend and popping a sit-down at the UNM Duck Pond. Just don't feed the ducks your leftover bread scraps. Common misconception like when you bring a loaf of bread to the ABQ BioPark for those mallards. Bread is actually horrible for their digestion. Go ahead, Google it. Then go support Which Wich. The only aspect of the place that is keeping me from tacking on that last star, is the cost, but hey, you have to pay for quality. Also, the space. I could use a few more square feet. It gets crowded at the U location but we can compromise and I'll just take my Wich to the fresh air. read more

This location consistently gives us poorly made lettucewiches and sandwiches. When they opened they were always made well and we enjoyed going here, but over time they have become consistently poor. Today was the 3rd time we have received an order with missing items, and the last time we will going to this location. Our main complaint, toppings we have paid for are missed all together, or a very meager portion is hastily shoved in one corner or the sandwich/lettucewich. I recognize that lettucewiches are an odd thing and probably frustrating to make - but the last ones I've gotten have been a mess, falling apart and missing most of the ingredients I asked for. If I wanted to eat a salad I would order a salad - the lettucewich is fun thing for those of us who can't eat bread, kind of like getting to enjoy a normal sandwich, but not when you're eating the big mushy pile with a fork. read more

I'm a big fan of Which Wich and was excited to see one pop up in this far northeast heights location. While I was willing to head to the university area, hunt for parking and stand in line with UNM students, this new location makes it even easier for me to enjoy the great sandwiches WW offers! WAY better than most sub sandwich shops I've visited. I like the atmosphere and the sandwiches are infinitely customizable. The day I went, they could tell I was new and the guy behind the cash register (who I assume is the owner or manager based on the way he conducted himself) came out to help me. He gave me a free can of soda and a double punch on my WHICH WICH card. VERY friendly people. You can tell they like what they do. The food is great. The parking can be a bit tough. The location is a bit hidden. But if you find it you will be happy you went. I will be back. I'd rather go here than Subway or any of the other big chains any day. read more

My favorite sandwich spot in town! I really like the whole fill out a paper sandwich bag with all of your desires, give it to a wonderful Which maker and poof- something delicious in about 5 minutes! Everyone here has been nice and I always look forward to checking out their wall of Sharpie art on said sandwich bags. This was my first time trying Which Wich, and it was absolutely amazing! It's clean, the workers are friendly, and the food is flavorful. I had the house chips (make sure to get these, I love the fresh pepper), strawberry shake, and special Banh Mi (SO DELICIOUS!!!!!!) The pork was seasoned perfectly, the sriarcha mayo was perfect and the jalapeños added a nice kick. read more

There was a HUGE amount of noise from the cooling system (very hot day) and the kitchen (maybe an ice crusher on its last legs). I'll give it one more try to see if it's usually quieter. read more

I love this place so much!!! I have been on a big sandwich kick lately and my oh my this place is wonderful! We have been here a few times, and each time it just seems to get better! The sandwich selections and toppings are seemingly endless, and everything we have tried has been amazing! My favorite is the turkey club, which comes with turkey, ham, and bacon served hot- then topped with cheddar cheese, spinach, tomato, pesto, garlic, and crispy onion strings. Seriously perfection! I want to try more on the menu, but this one is so great I can't seem to get away from it. My gf's favorite is the Philly cheesesteak, and our daughter loves the kid's grilled cheese. The staff here is super friendly every time we go in and the free drink with yelp check-in is a definite plus! If you have kids get them a chocolate milk, or heck get one for yourself. My husband and I ate here with our 10 year old daughter. Over $30 for sandwiches Yikes, but you have to pay for quality. I love the concept. Love Which Wich because the options are virtually limitless. You create your own sandwich so pretty much nothing can go wrong. The reason for my 4 star rating is that the sandwiches are almost always overloaded with dressing/sauce. I get my turkey sandwich with two dressings: mayo and mustard. The sauce will drip down in globs or pour out of the sandwich. It's really unappetizing and hard to eat. I end up scraping or squeezing it out. Likewise, when I get the grinder with hot pepper mix, the bread would be so saturated with the oil, I could only eat half. I've learned to write the request for light dressing on my orders, but sometimes that is neglected. I've had this experience when I ordered sandwiches at the other location as well, so I'm not sure if this is a regular Which Wich thing. It'd be nice to have the option to have "light dressing" if that was the case. read more

This place is a oxymoron in so many ways. The yellow interior is a very repelling color! Perfect for a sub sandwich shop. Eat n go. Ordering food includes a red sharpie and a paper bag each bag has the sandwhich you want labeled on it. Then using a sharpie you fill in the blanks on the bag. Lettuce? Yes check here. Add whatever you want. Then present the bag to the cashier who then charges you and places the bag on a cable as instructions to follow as the board person to satisfy your requests. Oxymoron part. 1, The cashier asks me if I want a receipt or an emailed receipt. Presumably to save paper. And of course to gain your Email address. The bag you write your order on, four of five times the amount of paper, is then discarded. (Oxymoron) the paper bag is the instructions to making the sandwich however so far twice my sandwich did not come as ordered. When asking the board person why I didn't get extra lettuce she said nobody told me. My response, it is written on the bag. She huffed at me like I was responsible for not telling her my order? Really? REALLY? The food is good. The store is clean and user friendly. In Albuquerque I'm sure their biggest cost will be replacing the red sharpies! There is maybe a 5 year old walking around with one in her mouth now. lol. GROSS! Maybe she'll catch a cold or something. The next time I came here I still did not get my sandwich made the way I requested it. Evidently provolone cheese and cheddar are so close the board person couldn't tell the difference. I got cheddar I ordered provolone! I went back and asked how I get extra lettuce. She said mark the bag I asked if a big X on lettuce was the right mark she said yes. But still no X lettuce! I will come back here, I like it, but !! I wonder is this the employee that is deserving of a 15.00 hourly rate of pay based on the lack of ability to follow simple instructions? I am very disappointed. I ordered the tuna 10.5 with sliced egg, light mayo, and jalapeños. Unfortunately I got mustard and no egg slices. We have eaten these sandwiches numerous times. They are expensive, but good. However, DON'T order on line. We were told our order would be ready for pickup at 7:19 pm. When we got there to pick it up, the staff served everyone in the restaurant before they even started our order, even people who came in way after us. Then when it was made, the employee left it on his workspace to take his break. We had to get the cashier go get it for us. Of course, my meatball sub was cold. The meatballs were good but there was almost no sauce or cheese on it. The staff didn't even notice how long we'd been waiting. We got our order at 7:43. This was supposed to be a faster, more efficient way to order - NOT and we had to pay up front and leave a tip. Decent food trumped by high prices and bad service. read more
