Smoked Salmon Sandwich
Brandywyne D.

My husband and I went golfing nearby and stopped here at random. It was unexpectedly amazing! I got the smoked salmon sandwich and he ordered a "build your own" mac and cheese bowl. It looks like they do small bands and maybe outdoor events. The server was also the bartender the day we went and they were very kind and efficient.

It does pay to get out of ones way. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious BBQ with truly elevated sides. Definitely coming back for more

Great local bar! Loved listening to live music, eating good barbecue, and having a great time. They had my favorite Arsenal Cider on draft, which was awesome too. The servers were all kind and helpful. Good came out very quickly but we also weren't rushed. Highly recommend!

Was suddenly in the mood for brisket and checked around to see what was around and realized we hadn't been back to Wheelfish in a long time. We used to live closer and then it fell off our radar after we moved. I went with the two meat platter with brisket, white meat chicken, sweet potato fries and corn bread. Delicious all around. The chicken ended up being my favorite. I was expecting it to be dry but it was perfect. Brisket was also great. Table had a choice of three sauces for the meats. People often post about those sweet potato fries and I have to agree they were a solid choice. Service was on point. We got a table quickly and our server was very attentive. Space itself is kind of cool. Kind of like being in a barn. Lots of wood. The smell of meat smoking outside the building was intoxicating.

Really great barbeque in the North Hills! It's tucked back in an unassuming location, though easily accessed from McKnight or Ross residential roads. I visited on a Friday night and managed to snag the last table in the main dining area prior to live music starting. My husband and I both were impressed by the reasonable prices and the cozy ambiance right off the bat, and we were quickly visited by our server. We tried two apps (deep fried deviled eggs and cheese curds), both were excellent, and my husband tried the 2-meat combo while I tried the pulled pork nachos for dinner. Everything was fresh and flavorful! Very smokey flavor, very generous portions, all accompanied by great local folk music. We also loved the 2.50 Yuengling on tap! They also offer local craft beer and Boyd and Blair cocktails, which is nice. I'd love to return for more live music and to try more of the menu! The sandwiches look great, as does the mac & cheese. Lucky to have this hidden gem spot nearby, especially given that BBQ as a cuisine is so sparse in Pittsburgh!

Good food, nice service, definitely will be back! We came here on a Saturday for lunch and arrived shortly after they opened. They weren't overly busy, so was able to be seated quickly. We started with the nachos and their giant pretzel! The chips tasted like they were homemade. For my main, I had the pulled pork sandwich and Mac n cheese. Both were very good. I had the medium bbq sauce on it- delicious! Food came out fairly quick. Overall, I really liked this place. Felt like a hidden gem and I enjoyed the rustic feel inside.

Pulled pork 1/4 lb

Pretty standard BBQ spot. I wasn't particularly impressed with any of the items I got from here, but then again, it's Pittsburgh BBQ. Perhaps some of their other meat is better, but what I had was substandard. I tried the 1/4 lb of pulled pork with Mac n cheese and fries. The pulled pork was just okay. Price for the portion for about average. Definitely better deals in other places but not terrible. The meat was somewhat dry and the sauce wasn't anything too special. Some fattier pieces but mostly leanish. The fries were a bit soggy but decently seasoned. They went well with the same sauce they gave for the pork. I would have liked more of the sauce, as that's were most of the flavor in this meal was coming from. The Mac n cheese was also just okay. It had a sort of artificial taste to it. The little bit of breadcrumbs on top seemed just like an afterthought, as there wasn't much of them. Somewhat oily. All in all, I wasn't a huge fan of this place. It wasn't bad, but not great either. Wouldn't really see myself returning here.

Amazing food, incredible experience, and really enjoyed the live music! We had Kylee serve us- and she went above and beyond to everything we needed with great attitude. We loved everything about this place. Also, the gluten free beer was GREAT!!!!!! So many gluten free/celiac options, too. Super homey, Yellowstone feel to the restaurant. Would highly recommend.

I stopped here for a quick bite and it was very good. I tried their tacos. I got one fish taco and one brisket taco and they were both very good. You also get a side with that and I tried the beans. They were a little too sweet for me but that did not keep me from finishing them. The service was very good. This would be a good place to go in the summer as it looks like they have a nice eating area outside. I would definitely go back to try some of their other bbq items.

I am always a fan of places that support live music. How I never ever heard of this place until my friend from NYC played here April 2023 is beyond me. I had zero idea this placed existed & it is tucked away in residential area in Ross Twp. It has a lot of regulars by the looks of things. Lots of BBQ choices. Tap & bottled beer & cocktails. I had my burger made into a wrap & subbed sweet potato fries. It was good. The bar was busy & bartenders & servers were busy all night. I'm glad my friends from NYC got a good crowd for their gig. It is very LOUD inside, even without music & the volume of people talking made the music difficult to hear. Gravel parking lot & looks like outdoor seats when weather warms. I'd definitely go back.

Wheelfish sandwich

Really enjoyed wheelfish this past weekend with some friends. I got the wheelfish sandwich--pulled pork, brisket, bacon, honey mustard, etc. the flavors were great and the portion of fries was huge! I'm not sure what the dipping sauce was--I couldn't put my finger on the flavors but I was not a fan. My husband got some brisket and ribs, unfortunately, neither of which were all that impressed with either. Not enough flavor/smokiness for our liking. His corn muffin was delicious, as was the mac and cheese. The restaurant itself was clean, had a fun vibe, and the service was attentive and helpful. The music was extremely loud, which made it difficult to chat with our friends, however our 1.5 year old son really enjoyed it and was dancing in his seat. Haha!

Yes, it's a strip mall, but don't let that fool you. Allusion is a beer oasis tucked between life's greatest challenges: renewing your license and resisting discount snacks. Inside, it's clean, cozy, and no frills, which is exactly what you want when the beer is doing all the talking. And let me tell you, the beer has a lot to say. We tried the 1810 Oktoberfest and As You Wish (which made me feel like I was being serenaded by Wesley from The Princess Bride), and both were excellent. We also grabbed a Buffalo Chicken Wrap and a Reuben, each paired with a cup of clam chowder that was creamy, comforting, and possibly made with magic (or butter, which is basically the same thing). The proprietor was friendly, knowledgeable, and doing everything short of brewing the beer mid-conversation. Honestly, if he'd started juggling pint glasses, I wouldn't have been surprised. Long story short: the beers are top-notch, the food hits the spot, and the vibe is low-key awesome. Allusion has earned a spot on our regular rotation, and possibly a spot in our hearts.

It took them over a year to renovate it and they still aren't done in the back and the parking lot is a little rutted but the inside is very nicely done. There is a huge bar and some high and low tables scattered throughout. The clientele is mostly locals and lot of laborers grabbing a drink and a bite to eat after working hard all day which was great to see. It's super casual and very open inside. We had a few beers and the bartender was good. She was attentive and was waiting on 20 folks at the bar as well as table drinks. The manager was able to help serve some food to help her out but never once asked us how everything was. That was a little bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion for a new business. We ordered a breakfast burger that came with some hashbrowns on the side. I assumed, which is my fault totally, that the burger would come with lettuce, tomato, etc. but it truly was JUST a burger, egg, and cheese and absolutely no other toppings. That was disappointing and I really wish the bartender would have asked if I wanted anything on it. I ended up using ketchup for moisture since she was so busy and I was hungry. :) The hashbrowns were frozen and fried so they were nothing special. I think this place has tremendous potential. We'll be back to try something else. It seems busy so that's a good sign.

The menu offers lots of ol local favorites and some with a nice twist (i. e. pulled pork sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, salads, Chipped ham Sammy, etc). Had the Isleys chipped ham sandwich which they serve warm with melted cheddar, grilled onions on a bun. However, they were gracious enough to make it for me cold, with Mayonnaise and a slice of cheese. This is unlike another place down the road (RI) from them that wouldn't adjust items on a sandwich for me last week. The waiter/bartender was super chill too, easy to talk to and basically good at his job. Our refills came quickly and without asking. He followed up to see what we wanted a couple times and the food arrived in a reasonable time (not much waiting at all). This was so very different from that same day where at our usually spot (another old bar/restaurant further down the road, "SJ") we had to walk out just after ordering lunch due to getting attitude from a mouthy waitress. Glad we decided to try this new spot! Great job! I think we found our new local "go to" bar/restaurant. Looking forward to it and to soon trying breakfast there on weekends too. A must try f you haven't been there yet.

The artwork is great and all the fun photographs and sayings. Every time I'm there I spot something new. There is even a gumball machine with poetry in it. How cool. Most often we have gone for live music. This time we were in the area and just wanted to grab a drink. They did have a DJ though which was fun. It was also a great choice because they stay open late when so many local places close early. They do have a limited food menu but I have never eaten there. They have a variety of drinks ranging from non alcoholic to beer or wine, even cider. The cocktail menu is where it's at though. There are so many choices and some unique combinations. It's been fun trying so many. I think my favorite drink on the menu is Galeophobia which comes in a fun shark glass. It's fruity without being too sweet and the macadamia liquor adds just the right amount of nuttiness in the background. I seriously could drink several of them. The Spork House Punch is another favorite. Immediately *pinkies up* with the fancy little crystal mug. The pear and lemon gives such great flavor and it's well balanced and an easy drinker. It also feels like a good value with the amount you get. This time my fiancé tried Elvis' death and loved the toilet mug. He said it was tasty but a bit expensive for what it was so he probably wouldn't order it again. Fun bartenders, great drinks, good atmosphere, enjoyable entertainment.. what's not to love?
