    Mac and Cheese & Tacos
    Tiffany Y.

Wheelfish is a casual BBQ restaurant that serves dinner, on some days lunch, and catering. The menu lists appetizers (e.g., spicy cheese curds and chicken wings), a couple salads, sandwiches, tacos, several meats, sides (e.g., slaw, sweet-potato fries, corn muffin, and potato salad), and drinks. Trivia and live music are sometimes available for entertainment. In the past few years, my husband and I have eaten at Wheelfish a few times. For our meals, the hostess and waitress promptly and politely served us. Here are my reviews for the foods: Pretzel bites - 4.5 stars - This appetizer was a large size. We really liked the flavor of the pretzels and the honey-mustard dip. We thought that the cheese dip was OK. Pulled-pork nachos - 5 stars - This appetizer of nachos was huge! Many tortilla chips were topped with gooey cheese, pulled pork, jalapeños, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Fried deviled eggs - 4 stars - The egg white was breaded and fried. It contained a yolk filling and was topped with a spicy jalapeño. We prefer traditional deviled eggs, but these ones tasted good. Mix-and-match soft tacos - 4.5 stars - The pulled-pork taco contained pulled pork and vegetable toppings that were very flavorful. For the brisket taco, I enjoyed the flavor of the brisket and toppings, but the juices made the tortilla soggy and caused it to fall apart. Shrimp tacos - 4.5 stars - These were on sale on a Thursday. The shrimp were breaded, and the toppings of napa slaw, mango salsa, and chipotle aioli tasted very good. Meat entrees - 4.5 stars - My husband liked the smoked chicken the most (5 stars), and he described it as being "delicious." We also ate ribs (4.5 stars), kielbasa (4 stars), brisket (5 stars), salmon (4 stars, needs more seasoning), and pulled pork (4.5 stars). Macaroni and cheese - 5 stars - My husband said that this macaroni was the cheesiest thing that he has ever eaten. He described it as "delicious." I ate some of the macaroni, and I agree that it was extremely cheesy. French fries - 5 stars - These fries were perfectly crispy and salty. Grilled vegetables - 4.5 stars - I wanted to make my meals more nutritious, so I chose a side of grilled vegetables, which are seasonal and included peppers, corn, squash, and zucchini. This mix of veggies had a very good flavor. Side salad - 4 stars - This salad contained a lettuce mix, some tomatoes, some pickled onions, and my choice of dressing. It was fresh but was slightly plain. Pork 'n beans - 3 stars - My husband ordered this side. He ate only a small amount of the beans and sauce, and he thought that they tasted just OK. For drinks, we had iced tea, diet Pepsi, and water. The waitresses brought refills.

The best. We wish we could eat here more often. The food is so so good. The takeout process went super smooth. Everything was packaged well and was still warm when we got home. The service was quick and timely, it was easy to place the order

Not knowing what to expect our first time ever hearing of this restaurant we left glad we came. Our server was very friendly and attentive to all of our needs, paired along with the atmosphere of a local sitting on a barstool playing guitar, it doesn't get much better. Finally the food was something to certainly write home about, most notably the smoked potato salad! We will be back our next time through the area for sure..

My husband and I went golfing nearby and stopped here at random. It was unexpectedly amazing! I got the smoked salmon sandwich and he ordered a "build your own" mac and cheese bowl. It looks like they do small bands and maybe outdoor events. The server was also the bartender the day we went and they were very kind and efficient.

It does pay to get out of ones way. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious BBQ with truly elevated sides. Definitely coming back for more

Was suddenly in the mood for brisket and checked around to see what was around and realized we hadn't been back to Wheelfish in a long time. We used to live closer and then it fell off our radar after we moved. I went with the two meat platter with brisket, white meat chicken, sweet potato fries and corn bread. Delicious all around. The chicken ended up being my favorite. I was expecting it to be dry but it was perfect. Brisket was also great. Table had a choice of three sauces for the meats. People often post about those sweet potato fries and I have to agree they were a solid choice. Service was on point. We got a table quickly and our server was very attentive. Space itself is kind of cool. Kind of like being in a barn. Lots of wood. The smell of meat smoking outside the building was intoxicating.

Great local bar! Loved listening to live music, eating good barbecue, and having a great time. They had my favorite Arsenal Cider on draft, which was awesome too. The servers were all kind and helpful. Good came out very quickly but we also weren't rushed. Highly recommend!

Really great barbeque in the North Hills! It's tucked back in an unassuming location, though easily accessed from McKnight or Ross residential roads. I visited on a Friday night and managed to snag the last table in the main dining area prior to live music starting. My husband and I both were impressed by the reasonable prices and the cozy ambiance right off the bat, and we were quickly visited by our server. We tried two apps (deep fried deviled eggs and cheese curds), both were excellent, and my husband tried the 2-meat combo while I tried the pulled pork nachos for dinner. Everything was fresh and flavorful! Very smokey flavor, very generous portions, all accompanied by great local folk music. We also loved the 2.50 Yuengling on tap! They also offer local craft beer and Boyd and Blair cocktails, which is nice. I'd love to return for more live music and to try more of the menu! The sandwiches look great, as does the mac & cheese. Lucky to have this hidden gem spot nearby, especially given that BBQ as a cuisine is so sparse in Pittsburgh!

Good food, nice service, definitely will be back! We came here on a Saturday for lunch and arrived shortly after they opened. They weren't overly busy, so was able to be seated quickly. We started with the nachos and their giant pretzel! The chips tasted like they were homemade. For my main, I had the pulled pork sandwich and Mac n cheese. Both were very good. I had the medium bbq sauce on it- delicious! Food came out fairly quick. Overall, I really liked this place. Felt like a hidden gem and I enjoyed the rustic feel inside.

Pretty standard BBQ spot. I wasn't particularly impressed with any of the items I got from here, but then again, it's Pittsburgh BBQ. Perhaps some of their other meat is better, but what I had was substandard. I tried the 1/4 lb of pulled pork with Mac n cheese and fries. The pulled pork was just okay. Price for the portion for about average. Definitely better deals in other places but not terrible. The meat was somewhat dry and the sauce wasn't anything too special. Some fattier pieces but mostly leanish. The fries were a bit soggy but decently seasoned. They went well with the same sauce they gave for the pork. I would have liked more of the sauce, as that's were most of the flavor in this meal was coming from. The Mac n cheese was also just okay. It had a sort of artificial taste to it. The little bit of breadcrumbs on top seemed just like an afterthought, as there wasn't much of them. Somewhat oily. All in all, I wasn't a huge fan of this place. It wasn't bad, but not great either. Wouldn't really see myself returning here.

Amazing food, incredible experience, and really enjoyed the live music! We had Kylee serve us- and she went above and beyond to everything we needed with great attitude. We loved everything about this place. Also, the gluten free beer was GREAT!!!!!! So many gluten free/celiac options, too. Super homey, Yellowstone feel to the restaurant. Would highly recommend.

I stopped here for a quick bite and it was very good. I tried their tacos. I got one fish taco and one brisket taco and they were both very good. You also get a side with that and I tried the beans. They were a little too sweet for me but that did not keep me from finishing them. The service was very good. This would be a good place to go in the summer as it looks like they have a nice eating area outside. I would definitely go back to try some of their other bbq items.

James took care of our table today, and he was incredibly hospitable and helpful, especially since we came with two toddlers and two babies. He even brought the kids water in cups with lids and straws, which was very thoughtful of him. The kids all ordered the Roadside Sliders, and the adults had the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. My friend was concerned that the beef patty was still a little too pink for her 2-year-old daughter, so she asked if it could be cooked a bit more, even though they had already eaten more than half of it. James happily accommodated the request, and the manager generously brought out two brand-new sliders on a fresh plate. That level of service was above and beyond. The atmosphere is wonderful as well. There are plenty of outdoor tables, and we didn't have to wait for outdoor seating on a weekday afternoon. Around 1 p.m., the wait for indoor seating was about 10-15 minutes. I also came here on a whim and realized I hadn't brought my credit card, but thankfully they accepted Apple Pay. I really appreciated that flexibility. James also split our bill for us and made the Apple Pay transaction easy. I'm so grateful for his patience and outstanding service. I would absolutely love to come back again!

It took them over a year to renovate it and they still aren't done in the back and the parking lot is a little rutted but the inside is very nicely done. There is a huge bar and some high and low tables scattered throughout. The clientele is mostly locals and lot of laborers grabbing a drink and a bite to eat after working hard all day which was great to see. It's super casual and very open inside. We had a few beers and the bartender was good. She was attentive and was waiting on 20 folks at the bar as well as table drinks. The manager was able to help serve some food to help her out but never once asked us how everything was. That was a little bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion for a new business. We ordered a breakfast burger that came with some hashbrowns on the side. I assumed, which is my fault totally, that the burger would come with lettuce, tomato, etc. but it truly was JUST a burger, egg, and cheese and absolutely no other toppings. That was disappointing and I really wish the bartender would have asked if I wanted anything on it. I ended up using ketchup for moisture since she was so busy and I was hungry. :) The hashbrowns were frozen and fried so they were nothing special. I think this place has tremendous potential. We'll be back to try something else. It seems busy so that's a good sign.

Great sports watching venue, with wall to wall TV screens all over. Clean, shiny, and with some fun sports games too (i. e. golf video, darts, etc). The menu offers lots of ol local favorites and some with a nice twist (i. e. pulled pork sandwiches, flatbread pizzas, salads, Chipped ham Sammy, etc). Had the Isleys chipped ham sandwich which they serve warm with melted cheddar, grilled onions on a bun. However, they were gracious enough to make it for me cold, with Mayonnaise and a slice of cheese. This is unlike another place down the road (RI) from them that wouldn't adjust items on a sandwich for me last week. The waiter/bartender was super chill too, easy to talk to and basically good at his job. Our refills came quickly and without asking. He followed up to see what we wanted a couple times and the food arrived in a reasonable time (not much waiting at all). This was so very different from that same day where at our usually spot (another old bar/restaurant further down the road, "SJ") we had to walk out just after ordering lunch due to getting attitude from a mouthy waitress. Glad we decided to try this new spot! Great job! I think we found our new local "go to" bar/restaurant. Looking forward to it and to soon trying breakfast there on weekends too. A must try f you haven't been there yet.
