My chimichurri chicken after it was served
Rachel C.

Based on my friend's recommendation, we decided to go here after walking around the Rachel Carson Trail for a while since we were in the Allison Park area. Very cool looking building, and the outdoor seating near the water and the fire makes you feel like you're on vacation. The waiter was also super friendly and played along with our jokes. He strongly recommended the chimichurri chicken, so I ordered it. I like that there's a healthier part of the menu too, although with what I ordered, I wish there were more salad greens. It tasted excellent with the chimichurri sauce, but I wish it was less heavy on the rice. More lettuce greens and less rice, or even completely swapping the rice for a salad, would have made me like this a lot more. Maybe even just calling it or having the option for a chimichurri salad and making it a really robust salad with more greens and vegetables. The rice wasn't bad, just kind of an excessive portion and didn't really go with the meal. My friend really loved his burger, and the pulled pork sandwich was good. While I'm not usually a French fry person, theirs were good, and I would actually recommend serving the fries with the spicy cheese dip they serve with the soft pretzels to take it up a notch. That was an interesting choice for an appetizer. While I'm not really a beer person, I can say the beer they serve here is very smooth after trying a sip lol. We especially loved hanging out by the fire pit after, especially since it was a chilly night. There's just something so comforting about sitting by a fire.

First time at the boathouse. It was pretty busy so we had an hour wait which wasn't too bad. However, once we got seated our waitress pretty much abandoned us. We had ordered drinks and one of the beers never came and we had to ask to take it off the bill. The burgers were great, everything tasted good but the service was horrible. As for cleanliness, it was a clean table and the live music was nice but our waitress could've been much more attentive.

The location is perfect! I love enjoying a meal by the water, and appreciate a breeze from the fans on a hot day! Good service and my Rachel Carson wrap was tasty. It had great heat from the hot sauce. There wasn't enough chicken for such a large pita, but the flavor was good. My side salad was fine for an alternative to fries but lacking for an up charge. If you frequent North Park, this is a good spot for a quick bite with good scenery!

We came on a nice fall day for lunch. It was a bit chilly, but with the heater on it wasn't bad. The view was everything. After walking in the park, it was great to dine right in the park. I got a smashed burger, it was pretty good. It did take a while for the food to come. Service was friendly. I would definitely come back when the weather is nicer.

Great view and nice location. We had a seat outside and asked them to turn on the heater. The people there are nice. I ordered Cajun Salmon - the salmon was cooked ok. I was expecting more salad than rice. Great food after walking for 2 hours.

You can get a half order at $7. Or full (4) $12

Spicy chicken sandwich with onion rings

My husband and I recently stopped in for lunch and can't wait to come back in the summer time when we can rent kayaks, walk around North Park and eat outside on the patio! We loved the pretzels with beer cheese and both of us got a sandwich -- my husband enjoyed his spicy chicken sandwich and I loved the buffalo chicken wrap, which is in a super soft pita. They also have specials and after seeing one go to another table, I think I'd try a salad next time.

Outside but the restaurant.

The location is fantastic, family friendly and the food is great. Take advantage of the great weather days to sit on the patio.

It was a beautiful sunny morning to sit outside on the patio. Our server was helpful and asked us about turning the heater on which was a yes The outdoor heater helped for when the winds picked up. We enjoyed the view of the lake and how quiet it was. I had a salmon salad which was a hearty portion that I had later for dinner. My visiting family enjoyed the fish salad and a bowl.

Had a spectacular lunch here while watching the dragon boat festival. The view is amazing. The staff is very sweet and attentive. The menu is very cute and offers some fun facts about the area. We got the trail burger and mint mojito. Both were very tasty but the mojito tasted weak. They piled on the bacon too!!

salmon bowl and chicken bowl

The food is normally good but this visit the portion sizes were a little off. It was a full bowl of rice with a tiny piece of salmon. It definitely needed a sauce or some other kind of veggie to tie it together. Service was just okay. It took 20 minutes to get drinks from the bar and food took another 20 minutes. But the view and ambiance was great as always.

My husband and I have eaten here twice--once for lunch last year and once for dinner this year. Both times, we enjoyed the employees' service and the foods. Here are my ratings for what we ate: Passionfruit-Paloma Mocktail - 4 stars - sour. Spring Sangria - 4.5 stars - slightly fruity. Jumbo Pretzel - 5 stars - huge size with beer cheese and mustard sauce. French Onion Soup - 5 stars - This soup had a rich broth, onions, and cheese. Ybor Cuban sandwich - 4.5 stars - nicely crunchy toast with tasty pork, ham, and Swiss cheese and a side of crispy onion rings. Salmon - 5 stars - I ordered this entree both times. The salmon was perfectly cooked and came with flavorful farro grains, cherry tomatoes, and asparagus. Filet Mignon - 5 stars - This 8-ounce steak was cooked mid-rare as my husband prefers. It came with whipped potatoes and his choice of au poivre style (black pepper crusted with bourbon cream).

Excellent Food in a Family-Owned Spot, But Transparency, Noise, and a Few Service Touches Need…read morePolishing (4/5 Overall)** I visited Wexford Public (12087 Perry Hwy, Wexford, PA) recently for dinner with my family, drawn by its reputation as a locally owned, chef-driven American restaurant in the heart of Wexford. Owned by longtime locals John and Melanie Dober, it positions itself as a warm, community-focused spot blending upscale comfort food with a welcoming vibe--think handcrafted sandwiches, premium Black Angus steaks, fresh seafood, flatbreads, and daily specials, all with thoughtful wine and bourbon selections. We were excited for what promised to be a polished neighborhood gem, and in many ways, it delivered. The food was genuinely great and the clear highlight. Our dishes were flavorful, well-executed, and creative without being fussy--fresh ingredients shone through, portions were generous, and everything arrived hot and beautifully plated. It's easy to see why so many reviewers rave about the crab cakes, steaks, and chef specials; the kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. This is elevated American fare that feels special yet approachable, and we'd happily return just for the meals. That said, a few aspects fell short and left us feeling the overall experience wasn't quite as seamless as the food deserved. First and foremost, the billing transparency issue was disappointing. They add a 3% bank/credit card processing fee to the check (which adds up quickly on a family dinner), but this isn't disclosed on the menu, at the table, or in any obvious way during the ordering process. There's only a small sign posted outside the restaurant. We only noticed it when the bill arrived, and it felt like an afterthought rather than a clear policy. In an era where many restaurants are upfront about surcharges (or absorb them), this lack of disclosure came across as sneaky and detracted from the otherwise positive value perception. The atmosphere was another mixed bag. The space itself is attractive--soft lighting, comfortable seating, and that friendly "upscale brew pub" energy the owners aim for. However, it was noticeably noisy during our evening visit. Conversations required raised voices, especially as the dining room filled up, which made it hard to relax and enjoy the meal fully. OpenTable rates the noise as "moderate," but on our night it tipped louder than that, possibly due to the layout or lack of sufficient sound absorption. A bit more attention to acoustics could make a big difference. Service was mostly attentive and efficient, but the management interaction stood out in a negative way. When we politely mentioned the surprise fee at the end of the meal, the response was an apology that felt scripted and insincere--like it had been delivered many times before without real follow-through or ownership. It didn't leave us feeling heard or valued as guests. On a brighter note, the owners John and Melanie genuinely come across as lovely people. The restaurant has that personal, homegrown touch you can sense even when they're not physically present, and locals speak highly of them. They were absent during our nighttime visit, though, which is understandable for owners juggling a busy operation--but their warmth is missed when the front-of-house team is handling everything solo. In summary, Wexford Public excels where it matters most: the food is consistently excellent and worth the trip on its own. The family-owned charm and diverse menu make it a strong neighborhood choice for special occasions, casual dinners, or even happy hour in the cocktail bar. However, clearer communication about the credit card fee (ideally on the menu or bill upfront), better noise management, and more authentic handling of guest concerns would elevate it from very good to outstanding. We'll likely go back for the cuisine, but with tempered expectations on the finer details. If you're in the Wexford area and prioritize great American plates, it's still a solid recommendation--just check the small print before you pay.

Chicken cordon bleu sandwich - 4 stars - My husband said that the chicken was slightly overfried and hard, but the flavors from the arugula, onions, prosciutto, cheese, and dijonaise were good. We really liked the flavor of the pretzels and the honey-mustard dip. We thought that the cheese dip was OK. Pulled-pork nachos - 5 stars - This appetizer of nachos was huge! Many tortilla chips were topped with gooey cheese, pulled pork, jalapeños, sour cream, and pico de gallo. Fried deviled eggs - 4 stars - The egg white was breaded and fried. It contained a yolk filling and was topped with a spicy jalapeño. We prefer traditional deviled eggs, but these ones tasted good. Mix-and-match soft tacos - 4.5 stars - The pulled-pork taco contained pulled pork and vegetable toppings that were very flavorful. For the brisket taco, I enjoyed the flavor of the brisket and toppings, but the juices made the tortilla soggy and caused it to fall apart. Shrimp tacos - 4.5 stars - These were on sale on a Thursday. The shrimp were breaded, and the toppings of napa slaw, mango salsa, and chipotle aioli tasted very good. Meat entrees - 4.5 stars - My husband liked the smoked chicken the most (5 stars), and he described it as being "delicious." We also ate ribs (4.5 stars), kielbasa (4 stars), brisket (5 stars), salmon (4 stars, needs more seasoning), and pulled pork (4.5 stars). Macaroni and cheese - 5 stars - My husband said that this macaroni was the cheesiest thing that he has ever eaten. He described it as "delicious." I ate some of the macaroni, and I agree that it was extremely cheesy. French fries - 5 stars - These fries were perfectly crispy and salty. Grilled vegetables - 4.5 stars - I wanted to make my meals more nutritious, so I chose a side of grilled vegetables, which are seasonal and included peppers, corn, squash, and zucchini. This mix of veggies had a very good flavor. Side salad - 4 stars - This salad contained a lettuce mix, some tomatoes, some pickled onions, and my choice of dressing. It was fresh but was slightly plain. Pork 'n beans - 3 stars - My husband ordered this side. He ate only a small amount of the beans and sauce, and he thought that they tasted just OK. For drinks, we had iced tea, diet Pepsi, and water. The waitresses brought refills.
