Off the Rails Barbeque and Drafthouse is a local, family-owned and -operated restaurant that serves barbecued meats, sides, sandwiches, alcoholic beverages, and more for lunch, dinner, and catering for dining in, pickup, and delivery. Their website says that they use ingredients from local farms and suppliers and make their foods fresh daily. Outside the restaurant are the smokers that they use to slow-cook the meats. The brisket and pork are said to be smoked for 12-14 hours. My husband and I ate at this restaurant years ago, but for some reason my previous review is not here. We liked Off the Rails then and still like it. Most recently, we ordered the BBQ Sampler Platter, which consisted of a 1/2 pound of brisket, 1/2 pound of pulled pork, 1/2 pound of pulled chicken, 1/2 rack of St. Louis ribs, and choice of three sides. I rate the flavors of each of these meats at 5 stars and the flavors of the mac-n-cheese, baked beans, and crispy Brussels sprouts as 4.5 stars each. The pulled pork and pulled chicken came with three bread buns to make sandwiches. I saw three house-made sauces--Carolina Gold, Kansas City, and Lexington-style Mop--and they tasted very good. The ribs were not pull-off-the-bone, but they were probably the first batch of the day. We had arrived 40 minutes after their opening time. An employee had tried to get us to substitute the ribs with another meat, but we instead decided to wait about 20 minutes for the ribs to be done. We also ordered Smoked Fried Wings, which have many available dry rubs and sauces, but we got the house seasoning with no sauce. An employee said a chupacabra rub. These wings tasted fantastic and were the best food of our meal. We LOVED their crispy and delightfully seasoned skin and their juicy insides. I do not have a receipt, but the total price for our foods and one soda should have been just under $100 plus a tip. We had leftovers and put those in large and small plastic containers that I had brought from home. (Other reviewers said that customers are not allowed to take home leftovers, but we went on a day with no special prices, and we had enough leftovers for two more meals at home!) We loved the wings so much that on "wing night" a few days later, we returned for the wings and some other sides. On Wednesdays the restaurant charges only $1 per wing. We ordered the allowed maximum of 6 wings, which we again LOVED, as well as spicy collard greens (4 stars), coleslaw (with little dressing, 3.5 stars), and cornbread (4.5 stars). This is a very efficient way to run a roadside barbecue. Orders can be placed from your table by QR reader or at register with the friendly staff. Food and drinks are ready in just a few minutes and the dining area is ample with clean tables and clean floors. An upgrade of plastic utensils would be appreciated however. The chili was especially good as was the pork BBQ sandwich. Prices were reasonable to add to the experience. Parking can be a problem but there is some to be found on the other side of the street but lacks a crosswalk so be very careful. read more

I would go back just for the brussel sprouts. When I was ordering I asked what her favorite side was and she said brussel sprouts so that is what I ordered and I am so glad I did!! The coleslaw was a little dry! The pulled chicken was good I just wish the meat to bun ratio was better. I love the bbq sauce that was spicy but it didn't have a name on it! I went there during my trip to Pittsburgh. My brother knew about an event happening there, with music and Backyard Fall Music and BBQ. His favorite band, Billy Price, was playing at 6:00. We got there early to hear Jim Donovan and the Sun King Warriors, an Americana groove rock band. The band played some good cover music from the 70's and 80's. While listening to the music, we ordered St. Louis ribs and Mac and cheese from the bar. We had to pick them up when ready. The ribs were meaty and tender. We sat outside; it was a bit hot but nice to be so close to the band. The Billy Price band was playing in a different area outside, and it was $25 to get in (with a credit card). I managed to hear the first couple of songs from star, but we decided to leave without paying so much to get in to the backyard. read more

Off the Rails is such a gem in Verona. They have awesome BBQ food including brisket, ribs, pulled pork & chicken, wings, and more. I love the pulled pork mac, it's a perfect combination of my two favorite things that they have. The Mac n cheese is peppery and has a nice little kick. I also really like their vinegar coleslaw. Their pick up is very quick (ready in about 20 min.) and they have a takeout shelf right when you walk in. Definitely recommend! read more

Wifey wanted bbq for dinner and happened to come across this place. Walked in and placed our order at the counter. Gave us a pager for when our food was ready. Haven't been here before so we decided to get 1/2 of brisket, pulled pork, and chopped chicken. Sides were Mac and cheese and cornbread. Now as a New Yorker, when I usually order half a pound of bbq it's usually a tiny portion. Not here! Was pleasantly surprised by the portion size. Food did not disappoint. Everything was tasty. What topped it off was the Carolina gold sauce. Not sure what was in it but it sure tasted great. Mac and cheese had lil too much black pepper but wifey loved corn bread. Awesome bbq spot in Verona! They have an indoor and outdoor seating area. You order at the counter and they give you a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready. We got the mahi mahi and the fried chicken sandwich. Both were extremely filling and flavorful. The fries were excellent. They have a nice selection of sauces for you to dip in. Ok selection of beers to choose from. Perfect spot if you're craving that classic bbq food! After concluding that there was no way we were heading out for dinner on a Friday Valentines Day evening, we planned a little ahead for DoorDash to bring us Off the Rails BBQ. Everything traveled surprisingly well. The star of the show was definitely the ribs. Smoked to perfection, with great char and seasoning. The smoked chicken was also quite good. The brisket had potential. It tasted great but if given a do over, I would have skipped it as a sandwich and just ordered it as a half/full pound cut. The sides are perhaps where things didn't live up to the rest of the meal. The slaw was a bit too sweet for us. And the collard greens had a weird spice profile that didn't suit us. A bit too sweet and not enough savory. That said, mac and cheese was great. Would definitely order from Off the Rails again. Next time though, we'll try to make it a dine-in experience. read more

Absolutely obsessed.  Homemade, house-smoked barbeque.   The owners and staff are extremely sweet and friendly.  They do have indoor and outdoor seating which is super nice in the warmer months.  They do close in the one area for additional seating and have heaters so it's not too cold! The flavor, spices and way the items were prepared with absolutely delicious.  The meat melts right in your mouth.  Tried the wings- three jumbo smoked whole wings. They are slow cooked & flash fried. The pulled pork sandwich was incredible- slow smoked pork, tossed in a house Carolina cider mop piled on top of a Breadworks bun and Pittsburgh pickles. The brisket is a slow smoked Texas style brisket and we tried that on top of the creamy Mac and cheese. WOW- the brisket was so tender. And of course had to try their corn bread. We came in on Wing Night and it was a really good deal! I ordered too much and got 6 wings since I've never been to their wing night before. They have a sign that says you can't take leftovers home so I hated that I wasted food here and couldn't take it home. I also had a tip added onto my card that I didn't authorize so I didn't like that. It's a really nice spot though with lots of outdoor seating, great selection of beer, large bbq menu, good prices, and great food. BBQ in Pittsburgh. Any good BBQ here is a rare find. This is a rare find Now it's not the best BBQ I've had but it's good. And for it being so far up north it makes it even better They were out of shaved brisket so I was only able to get shredded. Not the biggest fan of shredded brisket to begin with and this one had great flavor but was a tad bit dry The ribs didn't effortlessly fall off the bone, needed a tiny tug. The sauce on them was flavored well and didn't need a bunch to hide the poor smoke process like a lot of places do (Mitch's) Mac n cheese had a tiny kick to it which I love and cornbread was decent but nothing to write home about Defo recommend it and would say it is the best BBQ in Pittsburgh but with that being said it's still Pittsburgh BBQ at the end of the day The cashier was helpful and the set up is a great sit down outside spot for an early night dinner. We were in the area and decided to give it a try. Boy, were we glad we did! If you drive by, it first reminded me of an older diner. But that is not the case. With seating inside and outside, it is a great place for bar-b-que. The flavor was great and the meat melted in your mouth. Everything we tried was very tasty. The day we went was hot and very sunny. The owner came over to our table and moved our table to a slightly shaded area. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. First time here and my server gladly walked me through the process and menu. You order and pay at the cash register. The menu is two-sided and includes options in which you then choose your meat, or meat options by themselves, and sides to order ala carte are on the back. I opted for a pulled pork sandwich, which came with chips with an upgrade option of fries. I decided on neither and instead ordered sides of Mac n cheese and slaw. The Mac n cheese was good. It had cheese that was gooey and stuck to the macaroni vs. being wet and drowning in sauce. This is exactly the way I prefer it. The slaw was vinegar-based, again, my preference. I will say they are large portions for sides. If I were with someone, they would have been enough to share. An option for a smaller portion priced accordingly would have been welcomed. The sandwich was quite tasty. My server let me know where bbq sauces were, and I did add. I also got a diet coke. All totaled with 20 percent tip was 30 dollars or so. I am finding this to be the going rate for such a meal no matter where I go, quite pricey for lunch. But, as a treat, it was very tasty. I ate indoors, which has the option of table or bar seating. The food was fantastic, but I wish we had gotten it to go. I expected it to be crowded on a Friday night, but it was packed on the particular night we were there; and with how small the place is, it was a bit overwhelming. There was also live music, but it was waaaay too loud. I like live music, but I don't like when it's so loud that I can't hear the people at my table, and we were also sitting at the furthest table away from the stage. We were looking for a nice place to enjoy the fine weather and grab dinner, and we found Off the Rails. I'm glad we did. My wife and I shared several things, including wings, ribs, pulled pork, Mac and cheese and cornbread. I can't really complain about any of it. The wings were nice and crisp. They aren't necessarily flavored with a rub, but more like a few seasonings , if that makes any sense. My wife loved them and she usually doesn't like wings. I'm more of a traditionalist - I prefer a more assertive rub, but hey, these were still good. The smoked ribs and pulled pork were great. I always judge my smoked meat by whether or not they are enjoyable by themselves, with no sauce. And both passed the test. They were properly smoked and still moist. No need for sauce, but they did have a few kinds to try for those interested. I also enjoyed the mac and cheese and the cornbread. The cornbread was the sweet kind, which I always prefer. And they have some interesting beer and cocktails to wash it all down. I plan to return to try some other things. read more

What Happened to the BBQ I Once Loved? I used to tell everyone Off The Rails had the best brisket east of Texas. I've been a loyal customer for years. But sadly, over the past year, things have gone way downhill -- from the food, to the service, to the cleanliness and overall experience. I've gotten slightly sick after dining here multiple times recently. One time it was just stomach discomfort. Another, nausea all night. But after my most recent visit, I was violently ill -- cold chills, extreme stomach distress, and a completely sleepless night. I'll spare the graphic details, but it was rough. After looking up their March 2025 health inspection rating, I was no longer surprised. Despite these issues, I've tried to give the place the benefit of the doubt. I've worked in the restaurant industry. I know it's hard work. But it's hard to ignore the robotic, impersonal service, the disengaged bartenders, and the fact that no one even smiles or says thank you anymore. Still, I kept coming back because the BBQ used to be worth it. Not anymore. Last night was it for me. The place was crowded, our order was incorrect, and the whole experience just felt off. I stayed because I was meeting some great people, but I regretted it by the end of the night. I got sick again. I called twice today before reaching the front end manager- not to ask for a refund -- just to voice a concern that I'd gotten ill the last several times I ate there. After finally reaching the front-end manager, I was told it was probably "just my body" and blamed it on the two drinks I had last night over a 4 hour period of time,(1 drink each other times I got sick). I also asked if they use a tonic water dispenser, since that could be a factor -- and was told they use bottled tonic. Again, I was told there had been no other complaints, so it must just be me.Also I was told I drank too much alcohol. Really did you see me. I have my receipt! Zero concern. Not even a basic "I'm sorry you experienced that." It's sad, honestly. This place used to be a gem. But now it feels neglected -- in food quality, health standards, and customer service. I'm done. Maybe my new favorite wing special. Went at 4pm open. $1 whole smoked wings (max 6). Got 3 Nashville hot (great flavor...low on the heat) and garlic parm (super buttery and garlicy). Stopped by to get take out. There are many outdoor tables with umbrellas and a tent area. The staff were wearing masks and friendly. After we ordered we were given a beeper to get our order when it was ready. Noticed that after every order the counter, beepers and register screen were cleaned. Menu has the usual BBQ items St Louis ribs, brisket, pulled pork, wings and a few sides. There was a special of the day. My order of ribs and Mac & Cheese was very good. The ribs were tender and had a nice flavor and came with a sauce that was OK. Not sure if they have more then one sauce. The Mac & Cheese had a nice cheese flavor and was better then most BBQ joints.
