The cold cut combo had some weird meat inside that I didn't finish eating. The grilled beef had jerky beef that made me chew hundred times. The bread wasn't as soft like I had at other places. The only good thing was the service. They give you FREE tin of chinese cookies if you purchase more than $15. There are oranges on the table for you to have as well. I could pass on the cookies because they might not be real cookies. jk lol Anyways the same bistro vibe is the theme and it's somewhat self-serve. This place is really convenient, located inside of the Ranch 99 supermarket. My husband and I just came here to get groceries, but then I was in the mood for a snack. But of course I ordered more than just a snack. I had the mango smoothie, which was really bad! I could taste the powder, even though there were mango chunks in there, but I had to give it to my husband to finish because I just couldn't after a couple of sips. The food however, was a better turnout. I had the pork egg rolls with the crunchy part inside. I wasn't a fan of the sauce they gave me. I guess I was thinking it was going to be similar to the one that they have at Bistro B. But it was good and it's the closest thing to it in north Plano. My 2nd food item was a banh mi with a grilled pork patty inside. That was delish!! The size was awesome as well for a B1G1 offer...you just really can't pass that up. However the 2 must be the exact same. The jalepeno did make it a bit too spicy for me, so I had to take that out. I'm really curious though about how the bowls of pho are. The bowls looked huge from when I saw other people eating it. Amazing Pho! I don't understand how this place dropped below 4 stars. I am picky when it comes to pho, but this place is amazing! This location is inside the Ranch 99 Market, and it's basically a food stand with a side sitting area. The table area basically feels like a Poppy Japanese/Korean place. Think white glossy walls and strobe lights (with oddly no Asian music. I'm sure y'all can find a KPop station for the "ambiance"). The sitting area however, is not very big. This is the only downside of coming here, but, come on, it's in a grocery store so don't expect high dining. The old lady, who I'm assuming is either the manager or owner, was really sweet when they brought our food out, and tried talking to our group. The Food is probably top 3 Pho in Dallas. I got the Rare Steak Pho with an Ox tail and we all split shrimp spring roll. They only have one size bowl and it's the Large at most place. I'm a really big guy, and even I couldn't finish my food. It's not expensive, but if you don't want to be wasteful, I Would recommend splitting the bowl with someone and getting a couple side appetizers. The steak was cooked to specification (honestly, I was surprised at the cook with it being inside a grocery store). The Broth was REALLY good as it wasn't too salty. My pet peeve at pho places is when the noodles are so tightly bunched together that it makes it hard to break apart, but I was pleasantly happy at how loose all the noodles were (It's the little things). This location became one of my favorite fast food location. Of course most people would recognize that it is a "(express) branch" of Bistro B. Now I don't have to travel far to get the great food! I like the Durian Boba in particular. When drinking the smoothie, you feel like eating durian - I think they do use real durian fruit. The noodles and rice combo are as good as in Bistro B, but I do notice some times the meat and/or sausages are a little overlooked or too hard to bite - not a big deal, since they still taste great! One small complaint though - they overdid the dining area with disco lighting. It can be quite distracting some times. You cannot expect too much from a simple food trunk. But what makes me stopping go there, is that I noticed their store management started to have more issues. This means, they make more mistakes taking orders, they deliver wrong food order to table, they don't clean the table on time and it takes longer time to get all you ordered. Why I know this? I saw or experienced all of those during the several times of visiting in the past two years. And worst of all, not clean... I hope they could do better. Not sure if it's new owners or what, but the food has gone down. We've been coming here for years and the pho use to be full of flavor. Seems like they've gone cheap on ingredients and refill their pot of pho broth with more water when it's low. My meats seemed like they were picked up from the bottom of the trash, rewashed, and used again. The boba is extremely sweet and when we asked them very politely to make a new one since that one tasted off from normal, the owner did not like the idea and took the smoothie and poured it into the blender and reblended it. When she served it back to us we did not drink it but left it on the table for them to toss out. Poor service, poor food! If they recycle smoothies, I bet they recycle everything else. Eggrolls have a sour smell to them also. Would love to support this establishment but will travel a bit farther into Garland for better food. read more

As of now, this USED to be my go to spot for pho. Last night, I ordered 4 noodle soups, a rice dish, and apps for takeout. I placed my order and waited for my food. 10 minutes later, the food is brought out in these thin plastic bags, of which, one had a huge hole in it and the container was falling out. The handler didn't even try to fix it until I asked for another bag. Here is the kicker and why I'm upset/giving a poor rating. When I got home, the 4 containers of broth were COLD with that line of fat forming at the top of the container! What if I didn't have a mean or way to heat up the broth? What the F*ck, what the pho. We've been to this sister restaurant of Bistro B located inside 99 Ranch Market a few times when we needed a quick bite to eat and were too lazy to go elsewhere since we're already there getting groceries. It's not the most amazing food but it's passable with some inexpensive items. Their sandwiches are buy one get one free though the stipulation is that they have to be the same kind. At $4.25 each it's a pretty good deal. On this recent trip with friends, hubby ordered the Cold Meat Combo Banh Mi. We asked them to put veggies (pickled daikon & carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, jalapenos) on the side for one of the sandwiches as he was eating one on site and taking the other one home. If you leave veggies in, the bread can get soggy but then again some people prefer that like our friend. I ordered the Chao Tom Cuon. The menu described them as spring rolls with roasted shrimp sausage, cilantro, lettuce, cucumbers and pickled carrots served with the house special sauce. The sauce doesn't look appealing and was a goopy light brown but went decently well with the rolls. The shrimp sausage wasn't as tasty as the freshly made kind on sugar cane sticks but decent. There were four rolls to an order so they were relatively filling. We also ordered Banh Khot which are savory mini pancakes topped with shrimp. Generally, they're made with a batter of rice flour, turmeric powder and coconut milk then fried in a cast iron for a crispy golden brown, This version wasn't bad but not as crispy as I would have liked and just a tad too thick. Our friends ordered sandwiches as well and a rice platter. Overall we all enjoyed our food with some items being better than others. Their menu is pretty big for such a small place so it can be overwhelming for some people who aren't familiar with Vietnamese food. This has become my go to for Vietnamese since I've moved in the area. This is definitely not the best Vietnamese I've ever had but it's still does the job. They still continue to do BOGO free sandwiches. Combination, fried egg, and grilled pork are my faves. Portions here are HUGE. I can barely finish my pho sometimes. It tastes a little on the sweet side and the broth is a bit murky but it's still tasty. Other things I like to get are spring rolls, the 4 pork egg rolls for $1, and the grilled pork rice plate. I like the pho here because the pho, rice & vermicelli plates are cheap, they don't skimp out on meat and food taste good. I've never had 5 star pho like the $1000 bowl on TV served with gold flakes but I've had a lot of bad bowls of pho. This place serve good enough pho. I typically do take out and they package it well and warn me to carry the bag carefully. Service is nice but not 5-Star, it's an Asian noodle shop in a grocery store, don't expect too much. Yay for finding a place that makes yummy durian smoothies even closer to me! I was grocery shopping in 99 ranch over the weekend and spotted this place when I was on my way out. I came up to the guy working the register and asked him if they had any durian smoothies. He was super nice and said of course. Well there was no surprise that I got a durian smoothie. I also got lychee jelly added to it. The smoothie came in a short and chubby cup like the ones from QQ teahouse. Super cute! On top of that, the smoothie was great. No too sweet, tons of flavor. The place was cute as well. Very colorful in orange, white, and green...which was an odd combination, but it looked very 70's esque.The menu was expansive and very affordable. This is a restaurant/fast food counter located inside Ranch 99 right in front of their bakery. Only giving this place 3 stars because of their prices. They had B1G1 Vietnamese sandwiches at $3.99 each. We bought 4 sandwiches - 2 special combo and 2 bbq pork. We were disappointed in the food. The bbq pork had sriracha and plum sauce in it. Not how I like my banh mis at all. I like it the authentic way and those kind of condiments belong in pho, not banh mis. The bread was so hard and chewy, not crispy on the outside and soft inside as they should be. The eggrolls were 4/$1 and, although it may seem like a good deal, the eggrolls had been sitting on the heating lamp all day and the meat inside was tough.Không co ngon. =( And service was SOOOO slow. As a frequent visitor to the 99 Ranch Chinese Grocery on Spring Creek Pkwy/75, I noticed the the Seafood, Canjun Crawfish restaurant inside the grocery store was replaced by a new Vietnamese restaurant called the "What the Pho". The name is kind of techy but I decided to give it a try. The open kitchen style front counter was nice. I was able to see how they prepared their Bánh mì(sandwich) and Goi cuon (spring roll). There were like 4 - 5 people standing in front of a long table like an assembling line preparing sandwiches. They were putting meat, sauce and stuff inside the sandwiches and wrapped them with paper and tape. The display was clean and the full of Vietnamese snack and dessert at the front counter. They had "HUGE", I mean really really big menu for you to read with pictures on it. So if you are not Vietnamese or not familiar with their food, you would be able to figure out what you want to order. I had made several attempts to talk to the girl at the register but failed. She was either busy with something in the kitchen or busy talking to another customer who was Vietnamese. So I waited for a while and finally got to order my sandwich. I decided to get the grilled pork sandwich and I asked the girl at the counter if it is spicy. She said, "Yes, it is spicy because we put jalapeno and spicy sauce to it." So I said to her, "I want spicy, that is good. Please put in the Jalapeno and spicy sauce." When the girl rang me up, she reminded me that they were running a buy one get one free special. My sandwiches (two sandwiches) came up to $3.99+0.33 (tax)= $4.32 . I was thinking to myself, "That's a pretty good deal." Even though there was no one (I mean I was the only customer there after I ordered) there, I saw the assembly line kept going and going and going. The 4-5 people kept making their spring rolls, sandwiches and putting the sandwiches in bags. They were probably preparing for the catering order that they got for the day (but it was only 11am) Anyhow, I waited, waited and waited. I thought, "How long does it take to make two sandwiches?" "Have they even grilled the pork?" Finally, after 10 minutes, I got my sandwiches. They were foot long sandwiches wrapped nicely in separate paper and tape. Usually if I go to other places, they like to use rubber bands to hold the sandwich together because there are usually a lot of meat and condiments in the sandwich. When I opened the wrapping paper, I was very disappointed. What I got was a dry foot long with baked pork (not sure if it was baked or steam), one long strand of cucumber(not sliced), a few carrot sticks, a long Jalapeno (not even spicy or sliced) and a stem of cilantro. The bun (they were supposed to be baguette but it tasted like a baseball bat) was not even heat up or toasted . It was hard outside and dry inside( best combination?). The sauce was like sweet and sweet, the pork taste like the pork in "Cha Siu Bao", they were just sweet and lukewarm. I was wondering what I just got????? Is it Vietnamese Subway? Even Subway will toast the bread for me. What the? Where is the traditional condiments that Vietnamese restaurant usually put in a Banh Mi Sandwich? No daikon, fresh cilantro, lettuce, sliced up jalapenos? spicy sauce? The pork was lukewarm and thick. Also something in the sandwich tasted stale. I don't know what it is. Maybe they touched some raw food with their gloves and touched my sandwich in the assembly line afterwards? It was hard to chew the bread and the pork and my TMJ started acting up. One of my cold cucumber fell off from the bread because it was so long and slippery! I don't want two sandwiches, I just want my money back. I am not sure what their pho is like. Unless you want food poisoning like I got, don't come here. Wife got some Togo nam cuon here. My son and I got food poisoning after eating the nem sauce. Giving them the benefit of a first time doubt came in for a visit and ordered grilled pork chop with son. I have never eaten pho under a disco ball and rainbow lights before. The wall decor is made up of huge colorful pictures of banh mi, an entire wall dedicated to a cityscape advertising "What the Pho" on fake billboards, and graphic stickers screaming "Food!", "Fun!", "Family!", and "Smoothies!". To top it all off, you've got Black Eyed Peas techno-beat instrumentals playing in the background. Also, there are two big-screen televisions broadcasting the news. It's a lot to take in, but I guess you cannot expect a restaurant called "What the Pho" to exude classiness. They could probably cut electricity costs if they removed the huge, rotating strobe light on the ceiling that blinded me every 360 degrees. (Just for anyone looking to start a pho restaurant, "Disco Drink Bar" is not the most appropriate theme.) The pho was alright - huge portions, on the plus side, but my boyfriend didn't like it much at all. He said they messed up the meatballs. How the pho can you possibly serve up bad frozen meatballs when you are located inside an Asian market?! I ordered the "3 Bean Dessert", which was not good. They served it to me in a boba cup with a significant layer (maybe 1/3 of the cup) of ice - not large enough to pick out, but not small enough to eat comfortably. There wasn't even anything to slurp up and it was impossible to mix up since there was so much ice, so I had to dump everything into a bowl and eat it with a spoon. (They did serve it to me with both a spoon and a smoothie straw, so they were probably confused too.) Eating the dessert was also difficult because every time I ate a spoonful, I was biting through chunks of ice. Do they know you can injure your teeth by biting ice?! I suggest they 1) either make it a "shaved ice" dessert (with actual shaved ice) or a straight-up drink so as to avoid confusing how-do-I-eat-this situations, and 2) make the red beans smaller, because they were really big. Couldn't finish the dessert, because my teeth were getting tired and all of the ice was melting into my coconut milk - it was a watery mess. I probably won't be back until they have a huge decor overhaul. I think the obnoxious decor actually intensifies every negative thing about the meal because you are just so annoyed. I was sad this place closed inside Ranch Market but stumbled upon their new location. It's the same! Nothing has changed. Their Pho is decent, they have Bo Kho (brisket stew with carrots) which is hard to find. Some of their other specialty soups are admirably watered down which is a shame. But this place is a great value. Buy one get one Banh Mi sandwiches are a steal. They are huge and loaded and always taste fresh. They also make their spring rolls to order, and have a bunch of unique rolls you don't find anywhere else. They are also loaded with shrimp and very very fresh. For variety and price, this is hands down one of the better options in Planos. Again some of their food can be hit or miss, but their varied menu makes it worth trying a few times.
