Everything we ordered was incredible. The entire menu is halal. The beef kebab was tender and full of flavor, the chicken kebab was perfectly cooked, and the steak was just as good. But the real standout for us was the baklava. It's made in-house and served fresh and warm with ice cream, and honestly, I still crave it to this day. I finally gave this place a shot after my fiancé kept raving about it being his "favorite restaurant ever" and boy did it not disappoint. Almost 2 years on exactly and Rokhat Grill has rightfully earned it's place amongst my regular rotation of Zabihah Halal eats in DFW. Worth the drive every time, they've done a lot of redecorating, restaffing and especially menu revamping to get to where they are now. Not only is the owner to this day a regular amongst the staff but the two managers are frequent features as well, floating amongst the tables and working alongside everyone else. You may not be paying 5 star prices but the service makes you feel like you would. As for the food, they've not only improved in the time since but also stayed consistent once they found their rhythm. The Steak platters, Short Rib burger and Wings Kebab are a must order every visit and if you're not trying the owner's house pastry sampler including caramel donuts and in-house blueberry ice cream then you're simply not living. The food was pretty good, I think the standouts for us were the fatir bread, ribeye steak and short rib. It was all pretty tasty but the service kind of dampened our dinner a bit. The only reason I docked them down to 3 is because when we arrived, we were 1 of 3 tables filled and the service was great but then it got really busy and we couldn't find our server anywhere. My son and I went to Rokhat Grill today. Initially , we planned to come back and were going to recommend it to our friends and family, but something they did that seemed fishy. When we asked for the bill, one of the staff came with a handheld device and he was real sneaky on tapping on something on the screen of the machine quickly by himself instead of letting us doing it and making payment. Then he asked us to pick the option of percentage for tips. As we left, his action stuck in my mind so I came back and asked for a copy of the receipt. The lady in the front asked us to put in my cell phone to send the receipt to us. I made sure to wait for the receipt to come thru to double-check. My sixth sense was correct. They automatically added the 15% of Service Charge (which was $14.25 for tips) without telling us, and they also asked us for tips on top of it. I didn't know and I selected 20% of tips which gave them an additional $20.57. I questioned the guy at the cash register at the bar about the 15% Service Charge. He tried to wiggle his way out of it, by stutteringly said "Ma'am, it's for service fee", which I said " that's tips that you guys added, so I want my tips back then." He asked me to wait, and went in to check with someone. Then he came out and said that they would just give me my $20 back in cash, but it's only because they got caught! I took it and left, but I feel sorry for them. Normally, restaurants automatically add a service charge for a big party or a table of 4 or more people. We were a table of 2 people. Also, I appreciate service staff and I have no problem paying for a service charge which is essentially tips, but it is wrong for a restaurant to automatically add a service fee then ask for tips on top of it while acting like no service fee was added, then being caught in a lie! Such a promising restaurant with a dishonest business practice which totally reflects poorly on their integrity, and they are willing to ruin their reputation for just a few bucks. I didn't think there would be TWO Uzbekistani restaurants within 10 minutes of my home, but here we are. Bubala is a great place, but I might love this place more (when it comes to kebabs). Service here is clearly family owned and they take a lot of pride in what they do. Super nice, and for the most part, attentive without crowding. They serve ayrran and it had the right consistency to be liquidy but not soupy. The fresh tarragon they add in the mix is a nice touch. The meshkart salad was not something I've had before, but I really liked it! I've never had tongue sliced like vegetables, and it blends really well with the mayo like sauce and radishes. They give you a lot, so make sure you share it with someone else, or you might have leftovers. The fried liver appetizer is moist and has a nice charred outside. If you want like gamey meat, this wont change your mind at all. There were a couple of times that I had to eat a mouthful of raw onions to combat the offal taste in my nose. But that comes with the territory! The kebabs here are delicious! They were cooked to perfection, putting a lot of places I've been to shame in regards to how juicy it was! I got the beef and lamb kebab and both were excellent. The beef was a personal favorite because of how well they landed the texture in regards to cooking it. They serve it still on the metal skewers which is a nice touch, even if it does take up some room. When you order the kebab as a "plate", they give you a generous amount of pickles vegetables and rice. My girlfriend ordered the rack of lamb and I was a little jealous with how good it was. I thought Selda were the best with rack of lamb near my house, but Rokhat Grill may be top contender, if not better! Whoever that cook is should get a raise because they are cooking everything just right on their charcoal grills. Almost any meat dish here comes with a bed of pickled vegetables and rice. While you may be too full to eat every bite, they are still delicious and hold up pretty well as leftovers. This layered bread that felt like a mixture between paratha and focaccia. They cut it up for you, which is convenient, but it wasn't as soft as I would have hoped. When I took it home as leftovers, it was a lot better since I squirted some water in it and it did soften up. You get quite a bit of this bread, so don't be surprised on how filling it is. Ive been here twice within a month and both times were great. Our group was really big and we had a nice private table that was large in the back of the restaurant. They have freshly made juices and a kind of yogurt drink as well, and Mexican coke and Fanta. This restaurant gets 3 stars from me because they added a 15% tip on the bill for a party of 4. When we paid, an employee we had not seen, came and said any additional tip is voluntary. We added one. Same employee came back saw we added an additional tip then said can you make that tip cash? Needless to say they didn't get an additional tip at all.
