We came to eat lunch on a Saturday after our eye exams. My oldest daughter looked through Yelp and wanted to try Sapporo Ramen & Grill. When we first walked in- I was nervous because of the way the inside of the restaurant looked. I honestly thought we would eat at this place and get sick. The inside of this place is doing this restaurant absolutely no favors!!! None of that actually matters once you take the first bite of food at Sapporo!! The Menu is a bit expensive and overwhelming but the food was really really good! Came for another early lunch on Saturday and the place quickly filled up. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation and honestly even the amount. It looked small at first but ended up not being able to finish! The extra pork belly slice for $3 was not worth it though- dry and hard to chew and even cut lol I wish they had sliced it for us. I wanted to check out this joint because the area is just awesomeness with all the different asian restaurants around... and I was in the mood for some goor ramen noodle. I think when I came in they were actually closed but the owner acommodated me and allowed me to order and enjoy my lunch. I decided to have the pork belly ramen, which I thought was wonderful. It came with two nice thin cut of pork belly along with an egg cut in half, which is always a MUST!. I thought it was delicious and the noodles were just the right texture. The broth was also good. The only complaint that I will note is that the restaurant though it looks clean smells like an old rag was used over and over again, like my laundry when I forget to put it in the dryer. Service is usually slow since it's just the owner and his wife, but they are so sweet and genuine. I absolutely adore the butter ramen and it's so good that I make my granddaughter get her own bowl rather than share. I can't finish it at one time, but I can always take it to go. If you've had one glass of wine too many the night before, the spicy ones will fix you right up. They have Taiwanese hot pots as well but I've never been able to pass up the ramen to try them. Good ramen place close to home. We came in on a rainy day and the food hit the spot. We both ordered the kimchi ramen and devoured it. I also ordered the fried milk fish (it reminds me of one of moms dishes that is a favorite of mine). The fish has a unique flavor and a really flaky but meaty texture. It needed salt but they give it on the side I guess for everyone to put on their own. Server was really nice and helpful. Food did take a while to come out and it took a while to get the check at the end. More people started coming in and there was only one person on the floor so that had an impact on timing. Despite the name, it's asian fusion. I can't say about the Chinese food, but the ramen was not really to my liking. I don't think their take on ramen is bad, but the broth was very heavy and the toppings were underwhelming. I guess with a name like sapporo I thought it would have more elements of a typical Japanese ramen. It has a very hole-in-the-wall-family-business vibe. There were several families eating dinner and it seemed like people enjoyed their meals. Service is slow, there was only two staff for the night and both were in the kitchen most of the time. Sometimes I just never learn. I've had ramen here before, and I know I wasn't satisfied but my stubbornness took me here again to test their ramen. Failed again. Chashu was hard with no flavor, egg was salty with a hint of something sour like mayo(?) and the soup was meh. The noodles were ok, but a little over cooked. I would leave 2 stars for the ramen, but will leave an extra star hoping their cooked meals are good! I'll be back to try something else, just never ramen. By the way, the service here is ultra slow. We were the only other table other than the couple sitting a few seats away with us, but the server never brought our checks so we went had to go to the counter to pay. You're not gonna find many ramen speciality restaurants in the Dallas area, so this is all we have working for us. In the end it is a Tawianese sit down restaurant that specializes in making ramen. The place is decently sized, though it can get packed during peak hours. They have 2 flat screen TV's for your enjoyment. I caught an episode of Shark Tank here, been hooked ever since. I do like the fact that their menu is very extensive, with lots of ramen options as well as your traditional taiwanese dishes. Ordered a bowl of the spicy beef ramen. The broth and ingredients were bland, but by no means is it horrible. The ramen has a thick dense and chewy texture, which was topped off with a hefty portion of beef, halved-egg, cabbage, and spring onions. We had also ordered an appetizer entree of the popcorn chicken with baked basil. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Ramen purists will just see this place as A-OK. Service was courteous and helpful. We were promptly seated and served, no problems here. It's a hit-or-miss experience at Sapporo, but I plan on coming back to try out their other menus before drawing the final conclusion. read more

This place just opened a few days ago, so they're still working out a few kinks--service is fast but food is coming out really slow. Also, many of the Taiwanese appetizer items we wanted like pork belly buns (gua bao) and pan-fried oyster pancake weren't available for ordering yet. We ordered the Chiang Pon (R3) ramen and Roasted Pork (R6) ramen. They definitely were not the authentic Japanese style ramen we were expecting (like the kind you get in LA), but they were decent and filling. The roasted pork was prepared more in a Chinese way than Japanese, still good and flavorful. I'm giving this place the benefit of the doubt on the rest of the menu items (taiwanese and traditional chinese) and giving them 4 stars. The menu is super extensive with well over 100 items (decision overload)!! I'll be back to try the rest of the menu and update my rating accordingly. :) The restaurant name is misleading though...with a name like Sapporo, you think the majority of the items would be Japanese. I love this place for the vast selections on their menu, i've tried almost every type of food they have to offer and haven't been disappointed once! Personal rice plates, family style Chinese/Taiwanese food, all so good, they even have numerous types of ramen bowls for the chilly days. I can randomly pick anything off the menu and have always enjoyed the meal to the point I finish everything on my plate, no matter how large the potions are, then leaving full and satisfied. If you're not familiar with Taiwanese style food the owners are always more than willing to recommend you something that's in season and tasty :) The problem with this restaurant it seems to always be short staffed, usually one waiter/waitress and an owner to help out with taking orders and running plates, which result in water not being refilled, no check up's on your table, and possibly sitting and waiting for a longer time than preferred to get your check, unless you intentionally call them over, which can be a a pain to wait around for them a few times throughout your meal. Usually we don't wait for them to come pick up the check since they're busy minding all the other tables that we walk up to the register and wait on them. Still, the owners are extremely nice, they just need more attendants! read more

Sapporo can't quite decide what they want to be when they grow up. "Ramen" is in the name, but they have taiwanese food, a tiny half buffet for lunch, and Japanese foods. The menus are several pages long with no real specialty. This location used to be a frozen yogurt shop. They awkwardly kept some of the furniture and... bright colors of the previous shop. The back end of the store where the restrooms are located are clustered with asian knick knacks and is filthy. However, the restrooms are well kept and don't have a lingering stench. The appetizers aren't particularly impressive (popcorn chicken, seaweed salad, and edamame), and the ramen is mediocre at best. Pros: -thick, hearty ramen noodles -two halves of boiled eggs instead of one -juicy pork and beef used Cons: -the broth is literally water and flavorless -there is no specific flavor -the spicy is a bland spicy with no real lasting heat There isn't a decent ramen place near me for miles (downtown), so I come here when it's nippy out, and I'm not feeling pho. It's getting more disappointing the more I come, though. At $8 and change for ramen, I probably need to just avoid it altogether. read more

Been here for three years and never had their ramen (nor did I ever want to try since DFW is full of terrible ramen places already). They have two separate menus: one for ramen and the other for Taiwanese hot food. IMHO Sapporo probably has the best Taiwanese foods in town. Emperor and Genroku are also up there. On the other hand, service could be awful when it gets crowded on the weekends. The vibes are not the best, either. We've waited 30+ min several times, but we'd still go back for the good food. As a Taieanese American obviously I'm not talking about orange chicken. You know you're in the right place if they serve decent sesame oil dishes and milkfish soup. We ordered the agedashi tofu (standard), basil fried chicken (standard), cuttlefish & chives (tender and good and flavorful!), and stirfried ya choy (standard). We also ordered the R9 ramen???? Its a massive meat roll slice haha and it was a decent amount of meat. Tonkotsu broth flavor wasn't bad, and price was rather fair. I have been to this place before when it first opened and I wasn't impressed, so I didn't go back. I've learned that this place is under new management, so I decided to go back. I had vegetable Champon(noodles were al dente and very good and the broth was very tasty). I was happy with my meal though it could had been without the asparagus/red peppers and broccoli. We found this place about four years ago to celebrate my brothers birthday. We were surprised by how good it is, and are still surprised everytime we come (every few months since we live far away). I haven't had any issues, as have my family and friends. The food is delicious and every thing I try just seems more tasty than the last. I recommend their ramen and udon to everyone. Was a little hesitant to try the ramen from all the reviews, but decided to try it out. We got the hot and spicy, kimchi, and fried pork ramen. All were not bad at all. I got the hot and spicy ramen and really liked the taste of the broth and the pork was really good. The only downside was that the noodles were undercooked in mine, but everyone's else's seemed fine. The service is just like any service at an Asian restaurant. I did appreciate the server accommodating to our requests of "extra spicy" and "not too spicy" with our bowls. The lunch box style meal are still pretty good (would still give 4~5 stars) However, the dishes are not as authentic. Ordered Eggplant with intestines pot: tasted OK but it's apparent both eggplant and intestines were fried separately, lastly mixed with the sauce in the pot right before served. Another dish was Spicy Lamb with Garlic; it's apparent the lamb was fried first and then tossed with sauce; served on a plate with bunch of raw green onions on the bottom then sprinkled a bunch of raw garlic spicy on top. The dish became cold in minutes by the raw green onions and garlic. The lamb is very thick and dry, almost not chew-able. Usually these type of dishes were stir fried in a wok with high heat flames to bring out the aroma of the sauce and ingredients, which would produce distinctive harmonized taste. Therefor ability of the chef to control the flame temperature and the timing to add the ingredients to the wok became very vital to the successfully of final dish presented to customer. I feel the way the food prepared was a cook merely by following a SOP that tells the employee how to combine ingredients that were heat up separately with sauce. First thing you'll notice is that this used to be a Froyo shop. It's unmistakable, but that's not that big of a deal. So the service is slow. Particularly slow. We showed up and we wanted to eat, so waiting around for someone to seat us, then for someone to take our order was not earning anyone any brownie points. I said to myself, "I hope that the food is really good to warrant such slow service." Spoiler alert, it's just alright. Not enough to make up for the lack of responsiveness. I ordered the Sapporo Ramen and The Wife ordered the Veggie Tempura Ramen. Her's came out first and it was Udon. Seriously, they made the Udon version of it instead of Ramen. The lady said, "I hope that's okay." which luckily, The Wife does like Udon, but honestly, she ordered Ramen. A let down right off the bat. Mine came out and it was pretty good. A good portion with good broth and very thick slices of Chashu which helped. If the service was better, this place would earn a 4th star, but it was just too slow to be reasonable. If I had been hangry, I would possibly have given this a 2 star review.
