This is a good place to get hard to find products. It has a good market, prepared food and a great supply of groceries to use at home. Seems to be more specialized than H Mart and provides niche products that are not provided by any other local DFW store. read more

This is a nice marketplace to have in the area with a heavy focus on Japanese goods including food, drink, small appliances, and more. This Mitsuwa location is located within a strip plaza with a good amount of parking. There are two entrances, with one closer to the food court area. The marketplace is smaller than the Mitsuwa location I used to frequent in Edgewater, New Jersey, and possibly closer in size to the Waikiki location, but that was to be expected. Their food court area was also small and had a handful of restaurants. The restrooms are located all the to the right side of the establishment, past the food court. While there are many Japanese goods available at this marketplace, the goods are not inexpensive. I appreciate they have my favorite drinks like CC Lemon and matcha, Japanese beauty products, and even some harder to come by Hawaiian Suns. There is a section to pick up pre-made sushi and cold food items as well as a pre-made and heat lamp covered area for hot food items, but both looked kind of dry. Not my favorite Mitsuwa location but would suffice and happy to have it around when I do need something in particular. read more

Lots of parking at this location. This is like a bougier mix between Teso Life and HMart--so many Japanese goodies from food to hair and skin care to random goodies. They also have Plano specific goods that you can only get at this location. I love the NorCal locations and I love this one too! Mitsuwa is one of my favorite supermarket chains. I've visited a Northern California one, and an Oahu one. I do wish they would have a MoDo (the best mochi donuts) but I dream and digress. But they do have the best groceries, snacks and drinks, and most importantly, fresh ready to eat meals and snacks to go! These grocery chains aren't meant to be some upscale or trendy destination. The consistency between locations across the country is nice. You always know what you're going to get when you drop in. They're a one stop shop for all things Japanese and worth the trek if you're not a Plano resident. Not to mention, everyone who works here is always kind and helpful. Another plus is that if you're not in the mood for what the market has to offer, the food court next door has different restaurants offering more street food options. I've tried most of them but I'm partial to the sushi here. That and the onigiri is my little one's favorite. Even better now that they carry Hoshi Cafe's giant onigiri! They don't have their full menu, but they have a lot of fillings that are toddler friendly. If you're craving a post meal boba, boba republic on the opposite end of the plaza has delicious drinks. A must stop spot whenever I'm in the area! Mitsuwa is a mostly Japanese grocery store that carries a great selection of fresh Japanese perishables, snacks, drinks, and imported goods. I always swing by here for dessert after grabbing sushi next door. It's become a bit of a ritual. Their mochi, puddings, and seasonal sweets are always rotating, so there's always something new to try. It's easy to get lost in the aisles discovering fun treats and drinks you won't find at your usual grocery store. There are customers with food allergies, you have to tell the truth here!! Since you don't sell a single umeboshi in the store without msg, I KNOW your umeboshi onigiri have msg, and I'm 95% sure the salmon ones have shoyu, which has wheat in it. All I bought was a single daifuku, and it gave me a stomachache. Even the stationery store didn't make it worth coming here. All they're doing is trying to attract anime-otaku, and letting everything else fall by the wayside. Not coming back. Ever!!! read more

The market can be easily found off of Legacy Drive. The parking lot offers ample parking due to it being in a shopping center where parking can easily be found. From entering the store, you will notice fresh fruit and vegetables as well as herbs and spices. This store has literally everything you need to host your upcoming shabu shabu party or yaki nikku gathering! They have a wide variety of already cut meats from beef cuts, and pork cuts as well as poultry. The seafood section is my personal favorite where you can buy whole slabs of sushi grade tuna, salmon, and also yellowtail and many more where you can just go home and cut your own and save big without going to a restaurant. They also carry many different variety's of bento boxes such as already cooked salmon over rice and chicken karaage where you can just pop in a microwave and eat minutes later. They have many options of onigiri such as tuna mayo, and salmon where you can easily bring to your next picnic or eat at the beach. They have already prepared sushi, and chirashi bowls that have soysauce and wasabi inside the container and the cashier will happily give you disposable chopsticks at check out. As for your fresh meats and produce they also have many flavors of instant ramen and udon, and are stacked with all your favorite sauces, salad dressings, and dipping sauces anyone could ask for! The drink selection is great here where they have all your teas, juices, and sodas as well as your alcohol such as beers, wines, and sake. Medium sized grocery store that has a lot of Japanese grocery items! They even have a food court and pre made bentos, sushi, onigiris and more. It's a fun area to go with friends, date, family etc. Recently I came for their taste of japan event and got to try some of their sushi and it was very delicious. I really enjoyed their scallop sushi the best. The next favorites were the madai and Yellowtail. You can also pre order sushi trays in advanced for Parties and or family dinners on their website or in store! This is a wonderful market! They have a large variety of items packed into this location. They have a small bookstore with stationary items, goshapon, and even a food court. The marketplace is very clean and organized in a logical way with prepared foods towards the front. My go-to items is their onigiri and baked goods. I love the Texas sized salmon onigiri they carry. So tasty and filling. I also tried a matcha latte and strawberry mochi donut from their food court. Both items were delicious and not too sweet. Warning it does get really crowded in the afternoon on the weekends which makes parking a challenge. I visited during a tuna cutting day so it was really crowded inside the store. read more

When hotel franchises don't live up to the standards of the brand they lose their "flag" and have to change names. This Mitsuwa should just call themselves Japan Grocer or Tokyo Outpost. This store was awful compared to my experiences with other locations. No sashimi whatsoever. 1 mangled package of toro sushi left. An absolutely atrocious selection of prepared foods. They didn't even have Tea's teas Rose ice tea which every Japanese grocer or Hmart has. The food court also looked terrible. Don't you dare buy sake here. This Mistuwa location seems to be emphasizing the convenience store angle: the snack, candy, beverage, and prepared foods sections are highlighted and allotted more space than produce, staples, seasoning, and other ingredients for cooking. For reference, I've habitually frequented the Edgewater, NJ location for groceries, and I have visited the Chicago, IL location once before. "Everything is bigger in Texas" is untrue of this Mitsuwa location; it's actually on the smaller side. It hosts a small food court, a bookstore, and what seems to be a rotating selection of claw and gachapon machines. Parking here is a breeze; in comparison, the Edgewater location can be quite difficult, especially if arriving later in the day or during a special event. There are two entrances. The food court, to the right of the main entrance, has its own entrance. To the left of the main entrance are 2-3 short checkout registers, and located near those is the prepared food section. Sushi and sashimi are available, as well as other assorted bento boxes of food. Around the corner is a dessert and beverage section. The produce section is quite small and limited. Like other Mitsuwas, produce tends to come neatly wrapped in pre-portioned sizes. While I can confidently shop for produce at the Edgewater location, it would be difficult to do so at this location. The Natto selection here is quite diverse; there are numerous choices. Similarly, a refrigerated wall for miso exists, where one can find more difficult to obtain types of miso. The diversity of the sashimi selection is limited in comparison to Edgewater's selection, and their meat aisle is not as extensive. On the other hand, the alcohol and beverage aisle doesn't appear to have been whittled down. If you are looking for seasoning sauces such as soy sauce, vinegar, and the like, this Mitsuwa has condensed the options down to a single, partial aisle. In comparison, the Edgewater location had a large swath of aisle dedicated to soy sauce, including descriptive signage for each category of soy sauce. When coming to the Plano location for the first time, I was disappointed in the options. Similarly, the noodle selection was a bit disappointing. Ideally, you'd have a bajillion choices for soba, ramen and more; but here it's quite limiting. The appliance section is teensy, relegated to an after thought near the registers. The Edgewater location has two aisles dedicated to rice cookers, electric girdles, tea makers, etc. The prepped food section here is somewhat substantial. Prepared sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, desserts, and beverages take up the perimeter of the kitchen area near the registers. You'll frequently find shopper perusing and browsing for items here. Checkout--the staff at the registers are friendly and efficient. The food court here is never particularly crowded. While the Edgewater food court is roughly triple to quadruple the size in terms of seating, there will be long lines everywhere, and difficulty finding open seating. So a plus side of the Plano location is less foot traffic. read more

The market place is cool! We just returned from Okinawa and had some of the best food of our lives. We picked up some fresh vegetables, spices and wagu beef to make some shabu Shabu at home. The food court, not so much. No where near the quality and goodness. Especially avoid Kabukiya Ramen, this place was terrible. They served us some big chunks of gristle beef or something. First and LAST time coming here sadly I was super excited to visit this Mitsuwa since the one in Illinois was amazing. But it was honestly a huge let down. In the cafeteria, the Ramen was so bad I'm surprised it was served, but the customer service was 10/10. Wagyu fried rice was bomb! After that, I went into the little store that sells those surprise boxes, notebooks, etc. I bought a good handful of things, but I realized when I got back home that they overcharged me $10. I emailed them, and waited a week or so, no answer. I called them, they didn't know what to do because their manager was busy and I had to be the one that suggested to let the manager know and contact me back when they're free that day. Lo and behold no answer still and it's been WEEKS. Mitsuwa in Illinois makes this place look like shiz. read more

I went there to buy ingredients for a recipe I found online and was blown away! I had lunch at the food court, got a bento box I didn't need, found all the ingredients I needed and of course, their sushi-grade seafood looked impeccable. They also have Japanese games and the building seems to be spilt into groceries on one end, game/book store in the middle and food court on the other end. When I want to feel like I am back in Japan, this is my go to place. I see all the goodies and my eyes start dancing with joy. The food court inside of this place reminds me of the great eats you can find in Japan, from ramen, tonkatsu, sushi and the like things. When shopping here you have a variety of choices your senses will short circuit with all that you see. Okay, maybe it was my sense that short circuited. Tried the ramen restaurant inside of Mitsuwa and thought it was decent! It wasn't too crowded so we got our food quickly and there's lots of seating! I got the tonkotsu miso ramen, which was good but the two flavors muddied each other out where I couldn't really tell it was tonkotsu or miso; they also only gave one piece of chashu (it was thicker than normal but still...) which was sad. Since they're based on Sapporo ramen, know for miso ramen, I might try the miso ramen next time I'm there. read more

This is located in Plano, Tx. I was super excited to visit here but when I got there, I was surprised at how small this Mitsuwa Marketplace was. I'm used to the big supermarket and food court in New Jersey location. So seeing this one was bit of a shock. There wasn't a lot of selection that I found interesting to buy, but I did find some rice balls to try. They were really good. The food court was also small. There were about maybe 6 booths and a Kinokuniya bookstore. It was pretty quick to walk by compared to the experience I get in NJ but I still enjoyed my visit. read more

I loved the Mitsuwa in Naperville and was really expecting more than what I found here... What we ordered and don't recommend: - Saba (mackerel) set: includes a small bowl of rice, grilled Saba that is a little dry and too salty, and miso soup & raw shredded cabbage salad. The miso soup was probably the best part of this set. - Katsudon (rice topped with deep fried breaded pork cutlet + egg): the Katsu was too soggy and salty... quite disappointing. The highlight yet again, the miso soup. The only thing that was not bad was the takoyaki! I would say try at your own risk, but there are better options close by! read more

I used to visit Mitsuwa near Chicago 2 decades ago and was surprised to see one in Plano, TX. I was super excited as who doesn't love Japanese snacks and food. There're two entrances: right side is for food court and left is for the grocery store. We already ate lunch but decided to check out the food court for desserts. There's a pop up Good Times donut shop selling the mochi kind for $2.25 each. Didn't see any soft serve place. Will return to try ramen. The grocery store itself is kinda small with limited varieties. I also love browsing at 99 Ranch, H-mart, Seiwa etc, so I've seen many similar items. I was really hoping for some unique hi-chew flavors and amanatto. There's a Sanrio store and it brought back lots of fond childhood memories! Makes me want to visit Puroland again! read more

When throwing a party, I usually visit at Mitsuwa for fresh sashimi such as tuna, halibut, yellow fish, and octopus. Few days ago I had a party with my close friends and I shopped at Mitsuwa, buying tuna, halibut and octopus. And I made a great dishes such as tuna tartar with tuna, grilled octopus with boiled octopus, seared halibut with halibut with other plates. Everything I bought was really fresh and the halibut was not enough sizes, and the staffs came out of kitchen and asked me how big size I wanted and they brought me four big fresh halibut after 10 minutes. Ice cube prepared at the door, and I could make a ice cube bag with my own to keep my fishes fresh while I driving. I am so lucky that Mitsuwa is nearby my home. read more

While the square footage of the Mitsuwa-Plano is relatively smaller than the neighboring Jusgo and 99 Ranch Markets and smaller than the Mitsuwa - New Jersey (my first exposure to Mitsuwa), the location is kept clean, neat and organized. The grocery market offers products what most Asian markets would sell, but it is limited due to its square footage. There are also ready to-go meals and dishes. Recently, I found a package of a half a dozen variety of mochi donuts in that section, much to the delight of the little one with me. Along with the grocery market, there is a food court, and a couple of gift shops (Sanrio store and the Kinokuniya bookstore). Located right off Legacy and I-75 - it is convenient for shoppers to access from the highway. For me, the most direct access is via local roads, which makes traveling to Mitsuwa a drive, but when I do go, it's a special reason to visit. read more

I have been so inundated with major family responsibilities that I have been unable to enjoy life and visit places and write a review. I did go to my fave store Mitsuwa Marketplace and, boy, did I have chest pains from sticker shock. OMG. The prices are ridiculous compared to a couple of years ago. The exact same item is more than twice the price. I still go there because I can find items no where else carries but, it breaks my bank. I no longer even look at the bentos. Sad. read more
