Still the standard for Asian grocery shopping around the area. One-stop shop as far as anything Asian that you need. And by Asian of course I mean Taiwanese/Chinese/HK. Their breakfast offerings are also legit and convenient. Definitely recommend at least once. I usually stay away from their other food/lunch offerings though. It's severely lacking in my opinion but it's subjective obviously. The area used to always have a foul smell when you go near it but I haven't noticed it as much past year or so. If you're looking for anything Asian-related, you'll probably find it here at 99 Ranch. Some prices might be higher than other smaller grocery stores, but it's for convenience if you're on a time crunch. This is the only grocery market with a great seafood selection, and they also offer free cutting and frying services if you want. 99 Ranch is fine if you know what you need. There are a few bonuses, including a couple of counter eateries and a truly good bakery. The seafood section here is very good, too. I still come here because the selection of Filipino (and other Asian country specific products) is the best in the area. Hmart is Korean and Mitsuwa is Japanese. 99 Ranch fills in the rest. However, like a lot of Asian markets, the things you need to watch out for are expired products, disorganized sections, and produce that molds very quickly. This place is situated in a large shopping center with lots of good Asian restaurants nearby. Usually parking is easy. I come here usually during weekdays so I can't speak for what's it like in the weekends. They have all the things you need for your Asian grocery list. As someone coming from the Bay Area (and an Asian person myself), where we have 99 Ranches everywhere, I'd say it's just like home. You can really find most Chinese foods and ingredients you'd need here. I will say it's slightly more expensive than most Asian supermarkets around (about the same prices as H-Mart), but we often accept the cost because 99 Ranch's wide variety of food supplies ensures that we don't have to make lots of different trips everywhere for groceries. Would recommend getting a rewards card though, as it's free and they don't require a phone number or email ($1 spent = 1 point, 1000 points is $10 off total purchase). I can buy Hawaiian papaya here! Such a rare thing. It is $4.99 a pound (ouch) but it is for my elderly mother who recently moved here from Hawaii. Being able to bring a little but of Hawaii to her makes me happy. They have other deals on fruits and veggies, and a nice bakery, which I prefer over 85°C Bakery because the bread is not as sweet. We bought a roast duck today, and when we got home and open the box, found that the duck is missing at least 1/4. Just be aware if you want to buy a duck from this place, you need to watch the person who cuts it, they have a bucket to collect all good parts of the duck. They layout the good parts on the top of the container and with all necks underneath, which looks like there are a lot of meat. We are so upset about what they have done! As far as Asian groceries goes, this is one of three Asian markets that I rotate in the Dallas-area every month or so in replenishing my Chinese staples. Also, I'd plan my menu around 99 Ranch's fruits and vegetables department, fabulous selections, nicely displayed, fabulously priced, and, fresh. While shopping on a weekday is less crowded, I have found the best deals and to have the first picks of the newest arrivals to be on weekends. As for celebrating holidays, including New Year and Moon Festival, the biggest selection of sweets for the round box and mooncakes can be found here. I usually go to the one on I-10 in Houston and first time going to this one. Pretty similar layout where there's a bakery, food court with dim sum and bbq products. Notice pricing is slightly different than Houston's. Ordered preserved egg and pork congee, fried sesame balls, chicken feet, spare ribs, sweet soy milk and sticky rice. All tasted good but the lady didn't package the soy milk well and it spilled a bit. Pick up some fruits and veggies but didn't get to walk around much as we were in a hurry to leave. Every time I come here, there's always long lines and like 2 or 3 cashiers. Either hire more people or start putting in those self check out machines like kroger and Wal-Mart. Y'all charge so much during inflation period. It's not like you can't afford to have these self check out machines. Your cashiers and baggers are slow and rude. Even when I came here today, your bagger raised her voice at me when she was trying to get my shopping cart and your cashier kept laughing the entire time. I'm not coming back here again. I prefer the 69 Ranch but that's in Nevada and is really expensive, so. These International grocery stores are absolutely wonderful. 99 Ranch is up in Chinatown in the Dallas suburbs. In Plano to be exact, which is arguably the heart of the region's Chinatown. While the grocery store is vast and full of International Goods and extremely friendly, the best thing about this place is the bakery! If it were full of dog food, it'd be a Barkery, but it's not, so it isn't. So this bakery (not barkery): They have milk tea for a dollar and it tastes really good. Which is funny because most of the $4 milk teas around Dallas don't taste very good. But better yet they have some amazing Asian pastries especially the one that is my fave fave fave... specifically the wonderful delicious dreamy custard tart. It might be the best custard tart I've had at an Asian Bakery. It's right up there with the standard of the ones from the Portuguese and the Brazilians. When I lived in Houston, my work buds and I ate at "the Ranch" at least once a week. I love their hot food area. I'd also pick up some inexpensive produce while there as well. This Ranch doesn't have as many hot food areas as the one I frequented in Houston, but it still had some nice option. My hubby was able to pick up his all time favorite - a whole roasted duck. I scored some pickled veggies (cold deli area), a $6.99 for 3 items plate, and some bakery items. We moseyed around the grocery store. Prices looked pretty good, so we'll be back to do a little grocery shopping and score some more deli food. I definitely have to check out the dim sum area next time. Makes me not wanna deal with the traffic, but when you get a chance to go, it has everything you need: food court, bakery, roasted duck/pork, seafood, beverage, large selection of produce, beauty/makeup shop etc. Think it has a cajun food stand in the food court. I gotta say, I love their egg tarts!!!! (the next best thing to the one in San Fran that's for sure). ....but cheaper! They usually have them out next to the cashiers in the bakery. Had a craving to make some dongpo pork (pork belly) and decided to drive across town to come back to Ranch 99 to get my ingredients. I really like this place because it's just so darn Chinese-y. It's not as clean as H Mart but I come here nonetheless when I miss the sound of angry Chinese moms yelling at their kids to stop poking at the gigantic jack fruit (Please See Attachment). Things I like: They have a mini food court area that serves a variety of yummy Chinese food like the rice and 3 sides, dim sum, roast pork and duck and other little small eats. They also have a little bakery and coffee shop which is a great place to get a snack to munch on before you walk 10 steps to the food court and munch on more stuff. read more

I have been in many different ethnic grocery stores and most have a similar homey feel and items everywhere. Piles of this, cookies like that, fish, meat, prepared items. All are mostly the same. 99 Ranch was pristine, organized, clean and just put together well. I've been in many Asian markets and none looked like this place. In this town, H Mart is what everyone knows but 99 Ranch is where it should be. I've never been in an Asian grocery store that had hot, fresh rolls and bread. Also a lady shouting out "Hot buns" "Fresh bread" and the smells were welcoming. My daughter and I were killing some time before heading to friends for thanksgiving. I wanted to introduce my seven year old to some new foods that she had never seen. She like the veggies and all the noodles. I showed her the fish and told her what to look for when getting fresh fish. Then we proceeded to pick out several buns to bring over for thanksgiving. The place was busy. We found a variety of buns and the bakery area was bustling and there were some really beautiful desserts as well. The buns were roughly a buck a piece, maybe a little more. There was also a food court area which I'm told is pretty good and I really wanted a bahn mi or a bowl of pho. All I know is that this place looked to be doing really well and I don't see it going anywhere soon. I was very impressed with 99 Ranch. You should go check it out and soon. Let me be honest, 3 stars does not do justice but I had not had a 4 star experience as well. I walked in as I had about 15 minutes to spend before I could pick up the food I had ordered at the adjacent restaurant. I was impressed by the fact that it was well organized and not at all cluttered. The smell of freshly baked bread was inviting as well. I did not go into each aisle but the produce section offered a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. I picked up some Taiwan Beer, which was quite good and that could probably the one good reason for me to return back. :-) I did read some "not so good" reviews and they were mainly regarding service so I will definitely come back and experience it myself. read more

As an African American Woman, I don't discriminate and cannot understand how any race outside of the Caucasian race would. It is wrong and it doesn't feel good. (PS-No one should, but we know the history and how the white race was taught) I love asian food and have began to teach myself how to prepare some of the things that I like. Yesterday, I ran down to the "Ranch 99" Market (from Anna) to pick up some things. Although, I go to both available markets, this one was most convenient for me and stopped here. Mask were required and I had zero issues with that. After doing my shopping, I got in line. There was one woman ahead of me. I waited and when it was time turn to be checked out, the checked out person changed. The lady that took over was older. She had on a mask but stopped to add a face shield. She then left the register to go to an empty register nearby. She never spoked, said that I will be right with you-NOTHING! Upon returning, she proceeded to straighten out the bags and all with the pace of a turtle. The lady behind me was also black and immediately made mention of her actions. Before I could respond, the woman began speaking in her native tongue and quickly a man came to the register and advised the lady behind me that she wouldn't be checked out. HUH? She was wearing a mask but it was more like a mesh material, which means that it has holes in it. Now mind, you, the man at the door let her in, so nothing should have been said. The other thing is; on the news, people who have underline health issues are exempt and I thing that anyone would be in violation of HIPA to challenge this. They proceed to jabber and seemingly taunt the woman. I asked if I needed to call the police because it was clear to me that we both were being discriminated against-PERIOD. See, NO ONE can challenge the feeling felt when you are being racially mistreated. You can't touch it. No, it isn't tangible but it is felt. It hurt my feelings. How could a race of people who are often targets, who are often the brunt of bad jokes about their food and animals, who are currently being blamed for the current situation that this Nation is in, DISCRIMINATE or mistreat ANYONE. SHAME ON YOU! I will not be returning to your store, Ranch 99 and would encourage ANYONE who cares about equality and all American people to shop elsewhere. Probably the best all around Asian grocery in North Dallas. Not only do they have your grocery needs, there's an Asian bakery, Viet restaurant, AND their own food area with dim sum and other assortment of Chinese food. The pork belly rice bowl is like $5, for a quick meal it's great. (You have to adjust expectations on the food, this is the equivalent of a deli counter at a Western grocery store). The grocery parts of the store are clean and well kept. Often Asian groceries are pretty bare bones but they actually try here. I appreciate that they change the banners by the registers for the seasons, it's the little things that make the difference.
