A little thrown off by a 50 steak plate and paper plates on tables. Food was delicious. Pozole had a little to much oregano for my taste buds but over all food was delicious. A little disappointed that the surf and turf only came with 2 shrimps. Service is even better. Our waiter Christian was amazing. Very helpful in his food suggestions. I took my friend here last Friday for her birthday and boy did we have a wonderful experience! We sat outside on a beautiful day and had exemplary service from Christian. He was attentive, friendly and help to make our special occasion that much better! My friend ordered a BLT sandwich & I had the most delicious grilled salmon tacos. For dessert, they gave my friend a slice of decadent chocolate cake, my friend's favorite! We were never rushed and had a very leisurely lunch. Westside Grill never disappoints! read more

If you enjoy a good chicken-fried steak, this is not the place to get one. Way too thin. Go to Black Bear! They have three choices on the menu for different combos & sizes. I go to Westside Grill for the Swedish Pancakes. This last meals side of these were way to thin. They have been so much better in the past. Not sure the Swedish pancakes will be a motivating reason to go here for Sunday brunch any longer. I did notice the salads are including more lettuce, which is am improvement. Stopped in last night after decided I didn't want to cook. Our server, Kim was a unexpected delight. Her energy was wonderful and she promptly came over to say hi, introduce herself and gave us time to review the menu. She recommended a few solid dishes that we ordered and loved. Tried to make a phone reservation today but the answering machine was full. Went to the restaurant and informed them that they're answering machine is full. They DONT take phone reservations but rather face to face reservations. The point of reservations is to not have to wait for so long...but it is what it is. To make a long story short they took our reservations. They said 45-50min wait and we took it. We waited for 10min and got a call from them saying they can't seat us cause they're closing in 10min! ...and it's only 7pm. . But they're website says they close at 9pm. Not a good place to go to if your vegan or vegetarian, no choices for vegans, slim pickings for vegetarians. I think that they should have more options for people of these groups, at least some type pasta and a sides, I didn't see any sides listed on their menu, because if you didn't eat meat, you could choose food from the sides, also have a bean burger or beyond burger. read more

First time here and came with my sister from another mister. It was a Friday night and the wait without a reservation was "20 minutes or less" according to the hostess. The crowd was lively, the service and smiles were genuine. Decor is old classic sleek and probably could use some updating but the lighting during dinner makes the experience a little more intimate. Food and Wine: They offer an assortment of local wines, beer and have a full bar. The Solis Cabernet was full bodied with a nice finish. I ordered the Linguini and Clams. Linguini noodles tossed in a white wine, lemon and butter sauce served with fresh clams and tomatoes. The menu states "choice of red or white sauce" but our waiter never asked me my preference. Meal was light in a sense because of the sauce and the clams were flavorful. A nice break from my carb-free diet. My friend ordered their herb crusted chicken, but took half the meal home. We shared the calamari appetizer -it was good, but nothing out of the ordinary and we ended the meal with vanilla creme brulee. The dessert was decadent and not too sweet. Breaking the sugar crust is always exciting. A great way to end the night with a great date. Highly suggest coming for lunch or early dinner without a reservation or call ahead and get a reservation. During COVID time many restaurants have been very creative with their space using parking lots, sidewalks, etc. Westside has achieved a very pleasant courtyard ambiance.It's a beautiful outdoor space. Went twice last week: lunch & brunch. For lunch I ordered a Chinese Chicken salad ($16.00) & a turkey sandwich (with avocado) on grilled sourdough ($15.00) Both were presented beautifully and generously portioned. The salad was fresh and tasty mixture of cabbage, iceberg lettuce, sesame seeds, chicken with a light sesame dressing. The sandwich is usually served on ciabatta, but I switched it out for grilled sourdough, which I recommend unless you love ciabatta. It was super fresh and needed a little bit of seasoning. (a little salt); it came with a choice of soup or fries , so I tried the lobster bisque which was smooth and creamy. However, I'm not a great fan of bisque, so next time I'd try the garlic fries. For brunch I ordered the standard eggs Benedict ($15.00) with spinach & sauce on the side, and since they have a full bar, a mimosa, which was quite large. ($8.00) Asked for soft poached eggs because that is what makes the Bene experience for me- the oozing egg yolk with sauce, but eggs were on the harder side, a little disappointing. Asked to replace for soft poached eggs but the kitchen switches at 2:00 for lunch/dinner service, so they couldn't do. (file that info!)! The manager apologized & willingly removed the Bene charge ($15.00) That's one of the signs of a great restaurant, customer centered! Overall, the wait staff and service made this a more pleasant dining experience; the tasty food made me want to return and the ambiance made me feel like I was actually "in" a restaurant! Welp just as I was leaving this place a 5 start review. The manager came over and rudely told us that they had to kick is out of our table because "we were 20 min late." Even though they still decided to accommodate us and NOT tell is we would have a 2 hour limit. I understand we were late, but nothing was told to us ahead of time. The manages said "it's called being here on time." I don't ever think I've been talked to like that. Either way. I really liked this place, our server was johnathan and he did a fantastic job with our party of 12. He was very knowledgable with the food and drink menu. I got the steak and avocado sandwich $15, came with a salad too. Definitely a great deal. The place was nice and cleans and a great atmosphere. In my life experience, I'd say this was a solid three star place. I would go again if I was in the area. Service was great even with our large group size! ~The Food~ Onion Bread-- Homemade, fluffy, a little sweet, and hot. I ate a lot of it! Caesar Salad-- Fresh fresh fresh lettuce, great dressing, and great croutons! I really liked this Caesar! Lobster Bisque-- Really thick (not very bisque-esque) and had strong nutmeg flavors that were not my personal favorite. Crab and Shrimp Ravioli-- Great texture and filling. The sauce was a bit bland and could have used some acidity to balance the creamy sauce. Seared Scallops-- One of their most popular items...and I'm not sure what happened here. They were not over done, and cooked well...but really salty! Inedible. All the way through, not just seasoned to much. So we sent them back because it was kind of absurd. The re-fire was quick and came with sincere apologies. But the re-fire was also just as crazy salty all the way through. Maybe that is just the way the scallops were. Maybe there was brine involved. I'm sure the restaurant didn't mean for them to be that salty, but among the numerous people who tried both versions, they for the life of them could not figure out why they were SO salty. Even in the very center of the silver dollar sized scallops that looked SO good. Disappointing... Pretty solid place for a random excursion to Gilroy wine country! It goes without saying that the general manager of any establishment should reflect professionalism, sincerity, and poise. Rick, the general manager at Westside Grill, embodied all of these traits. These characteristics were subsequently passed down to the entire staff including Travis (our waiter) who independently made Westside Grill feel like a true 5-star restaurant. To explain each reason why the service was so memorable would take far too much time and certainly become quickly redundant, but know that Westside is all about the experience of the patron(s) Now to the food...Each course was more sensational than the last. The bread was fresh and warm. The hot tea I ordered was made of high quality tea leaves (not tea grounds). Even the honey served with the tea was slightly preheated to allow it to slide out of its container easily. The salad was served with an assortment of unexpected, yet refreshing vegetables like various beans, olives, and cucumbers, all of which were prepared to perfection. Rick's recommended wild-caught Alaskan Halibut was both visually stunning and delicious. The lightly breaded exterior was prepared without excess oil and grease. The flavor bursting through with every bite. Served with lightly oiled asparagus and carrots, mini-rose potatoes and a cream sauce made from the heavens, the dish was a perfect blend of flavors and culinary expertise. A few hours after dinner, my dining partner and I were still talking about how great we felt about our experience. The mere thought of our dinner had us salivating for more! The only cautionary piece of advice I would give to my fellow Yelper's is that some of the dishes do border on the three $$$ range, so be prepared to pay a bit more than what Yelp reflects on pricing. However, without a doubt, Westside Grill provides an extraordinary dining experience which has delighted my palette and I hope that you take the time to try it for yourselves. read more

The salad was decent as was the balsamic dressing (automatically comes on the side.. fabulous) The herb crusted chicken with Gorgonzola cheese sauce looked like someone had thrown up cottage cheese on top of the chicken BUT.. it was tasty... just not worth the 16 dollars the bf paid for it. His pork chops were delicious according to him.. they didn't look dried out or anything.... We definitely got a kick out of hearing some redneck dad teach her little three yr old to say "fuck the cowboys." That lil bugger is a smart one-- he was shouting it loud and proud for his daddy. That made for an interesting meal. We just wanted to peace out and head back to Santa Cruz- so no dessert. This is the only 'high end' restaurant in Gilroy that I know of, which is truly a shame since Gilroy has come a long way in the last ten years. We've been here twice for dinner. Once for my birthday in September - there were lipstick stains on our clean wine glasses (ewwwwww) from previous customers that the waitress profusely apologized for and the owner comped us the tempura green beans - and last night when we went out with family. The first time service was OK but last night it was much improved. Mr. P and I had the swordfish special with avocado salsa which was very good (even though 'avacado' was misspelled on the menu), it came with an assortment of very lightly cooked fresh veggies and excellent Yukon gold potatoes infused with garlic and butter. Our son had the lamb porterhouse steak special which looked wonderful if a little rare for my taste and his wife had the shrimp Alfredo. They also shared an iceberg lettuce wedge salad, very popular once again and very 1950's. Another Yelper complained about the wine list but I think even though small, it's fairly efficient. We had a bottle of Storr's chardonnay that was just fine. There is a full bar and since most customers are in the 55 and over age group, who generally drink martini's and the like, fine wine is not the focus for most. I did notice many diners brought their own bottles (don't know what the corkage fee is). The one thing I really did like is how much of a locals place Westside Grill is, I even saw someone I work with there. It seemed like everyone who came in ran into someone they knew. The wait staff all seemed to know many of the regulars too, I like this in a restaurant, always have. I get my taxes done in Gilroy. (and our accountant friend took us to dinner here after the torture was over) It was packed on a Saturday night at 7:30. The booths are very tight, ask for a table. My highlight was those super fattening deep fried green beans that everyone else had on their table. YUM. We split the pork chops in maple glaze, asparagus and mashed potatoes ($21). It comes with soup or salad. I live in SF so I will say that this place is very reasonable (price wise). And the portions were also quite generous, we split the entree, and I didn't finish my half. I am not super versed in Gilroy dining, but this does seem to be a hot spot. The marketing gal in me wonders why a place like this wouldn't feature a "garlic" item...the best garlic bread in gilroy...or some garlic dip for the bread, or garlic soup, chicken with 40 cloves of garlic....you get the idea. read more

I am glad Westside Grill is open during this pandemic. They make it safe and easy to order. Food took 15-20 minutes to be ready. I ordered their delicious chicken pesto pasta and still very tasty. Honestly the reassurance of how clean and safe they are and being able to still give great service is a five star for me. Thankful that they are open during this time! read more

Not from around town, but every time I am up visiting family I usually stop here. I've been coming for about 7 years and so far, no complaints. Last night, was not the service nor food I was expecting. Our waitress took our order and drinks so late after we got there because she was too busy talking with regulars that she forgot about us a couple times. She was a nice lady but we are the customers too. Ordered calamari which was really good. But when I got my entree I asked for medium well, but it looked and tasted medium rare. We were in a hurry to go so I didn't send my food back, but instead chocked it down. I'm really disappointed with the service and preparation of my entree. I've been here multiple times and this is not the service or food I have gotten in the past. read more

On our way to San Jose from a day in Monterey, we googled Gilroy restaurants, so that we could stop for dinner. Found Westside Grill's menu and decided to make an Open Table reservation. Our greeter was very happy to see us and promptly lead us to a nice booth, from which we had a great view of the bar's giant TV screens, where we watched the Final Four match-up! I ordered the bolognese spaghetti which came with a delicious side salad. My hubby ordered the Thai chicken lettuce wraps. Food was good, I was puzzled that I didn't have any garlic bread or rolls to sop up my spicy pasta sauce and assumed it just wasn't a part of the meal. Later I noticed another patron with a salad and he had rolls on his plate... Service and servers were excellent; friendly and attentive. This was a nice respite from our long drive home. Wish it was closer to the freeway though. LOL read more

Yes I am a fan but can you change up the menu? I've been coming for five years very consistently as it is a nice place here in Gilroy but the menu is the same. (I have to say I know it by heart; is that bad?!) Had a scallop salad ten days ago that was their special (19$). THere were four large scallops and it was excellent! My hubby loves the steak and avocado sandwich; perfection in a sandwich. Grilled onions, etc. Nice thing is they are willing to pretty much customize an entree for you. Kudos to Michael and Dina who work the bar; very hard workers. I was a bartender for over 4 years in NY and it is not an easy job, especially when you are also responsible for serving full entrees. I stayed in Gilroy over the weekend and went to Westside grill on both Friday and Saturday! We loved it so much in Friday that we took friends there on Saturday. Would obviously recommend and hope to go again. Their outdoor set up because of the pandemic was in the courtyard of the business center, which I really liked. It was nicely landscaped with a fountain in the middle, and they have several candles and lamps for good ambience. My partner and I shared an entrée and a dessert both times. They give big portions with soup or salad to start so it was very shareable. But mostly we wanted dessert LOL. I recommend the crab melt or the steak sandwich. Service was also good. We had the same server both times which is sort of fun. I wish it wasn't so far away from where I lived! read more
