I went to pickup online order for Westside Skillet & was surprised by $3 upcharge for Swedish Pancakes (not referenced on online Menu, nor told in advance). I've ordered this numerous times and never heard of or been charged an upgrade charge for Swedish vs regular Pancakes or Toast. IMHO, Customers should not be charged hidden fees not referenced on the Menu. read more

Gilroy is about the midpoint between our three homes-- my two sisters' and my own. We met at the Westside Grill after a round of our usual mediocre golf on a lovely Gilroy Sunday. I'd done my Yelp research and... What a find this place is! That score is good but it deserves to be higher. Westside Grill ticked all the boxes. - Let's start with service; waitperson Celeste was that rare combo of super friendly and knowledgeable/professional. Also I think she'd make a great daughter in law. Probably not PC to say that... - Food was delicious! On a busy night, each dish still earned rave reviews. Standouts were the house salad (SO fresh and perfect combination of ingredients) , the lobster bisque (spot on with just the right level of mild sweetness and savory) and the crab salad sandwich. Oh, and the prime rib. And the fresh pasta. Even the fries were kind of crispy-creative! And don't even get me started on the caramely dessert beignets. In this age where restaurants are still struggling, this one is busy busy busy for a reason. Someone (owners?) did their homework. We now have a favorite family meeting venue! We are visiting family here from Orange, CA and wanted a brunch spot. This place popped up and we decided to stop by. Service was good and we each enjoyed our drinks. My husband has a Bloody Mary and I had a sunrise mimosa. My kids had their child drinks and they were good portion size. I went with eggs, sausage, avocado and toast. It was a satisfying meal while watching some replay of FIFA from the bar (we were not seated there). Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and would return when visiting again. read more

The five stars are ALL for our favorite Server Kim, she is the absolute best! We always make sure to request to sit in her section. By the time we are seated our drinks are on the table! I never thought that I'd be going to Gilroy to eat, but on the way back through Mount Madonna we decided to stop off in Gilroy at a place that had been recommended by a mutual friend. The outside very unassuming, but the inside was cozy and well attended by a lot of televisions in the bar. Service was fast and efficient... Almost too so but the real star of the meal.... as it should be ... was the food. The salad was the side salad that was given as an option to my entrée, but it was large enough to be a regular salad. ... everything was super super fresh. I chose the jambalaya as my entrée and it was excellent. It was a thicker sauce than I've ever seen on a jambalaya, but it was delicious. I would have a hard time, not getting it again if I went back to the Westside Grill. I think I will make it a point to do so in the future. read more

We came here on a Saturday for dinner and it was packed at the restaurant! I made a reservation on yelp for a party of 5 to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. I highly recommend making a reservation if you're coming here on a weekend. We ordered cocktails and food, and surprisingly the food came out before our drinks. Turns out our drink order got lost somewhere along the way but our waiter came and let us know that the drinks would soon come out since he realized it was taking a while. For food, I ordered the herb crusted chicken that came with mashed potatoes and veggies. The chicken was pretty good and the mashed potatoes were also decent. My mother in law got the salmon dish and enjoyed it. One of the best dishes at the table was the steak burger. We had ordered a salad with chicken at our table, and they had forgotten to add the chicken but quickly corrected it. We eventually got our drinks and another server or manager came to apologize as well for the inconvenience. For the birthday dessert, we chose the bread pudding and a few of the staff members sang happy birthday which was nice. This seems like a very popular spot in Gilroy and I think we caught them on one of their busiest nights so I understand some of the hiccups. I appreciate that the staff was kind and apologetic. I get the impression that this place is " Gilroy good". Let's be honest , Gilroy doesn't have a ton of good restaurants -let alone somewhere where you would want to bring a date to. I have tried this place twice now ( about 4 years apart) , and both times I felt that the food was good , but not out of this world good. In fact , the menu looks the exact same as it did when I was here last time. I get that you can't be everything for all people , but I would like to see a little creativity in the menu -especially at these menu prices. Although I had a reservation at 530, one of the staff members advised that we sit in the bar to get served faster. We sat in the smallest table crammed up against the wall right where all the wait staff come and go- not a pleasant experience to say the least. For my entree , I opted for the pork chops with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The pork was cooked evenly and the maple glaze sauce was pretty good. The veggies were slightly undercooked with not much flavor to offer. For dessert, we opted for the Dutch apple Gizdich Ranch pie with ice cream. If you have lived in this area for any length of time , you know how good these pies are. In summary, this place serves a purpose. They offer a place to go to impress your significant other -in a town with not a lot of options. Just temper your expectations on the food - it's just OK. read more

Dude, this is such the great breakfast spot on Sunday. I'm not normally on this area but on a drive back from down south up 101 and needing a bite, couldn't have chosen better. We had avocado toast. Had a fried egg in top of avocado and a little water cress garnish. Perfectly toasted bread. Breakfast burrito (flour tortilla, scrambled eggs, chorizo, avocado, tomatoes, pinto beans, jack and white cheddar) was huge and then it came with hashed brown on the side too. Denver scramble (ham, onion, bell pepper, jack and cheddar) was as huge as the burrito but felt lighter without the tortilla. Omelette... same story. Had a fruit salad on the side with this one. I can't remember our servers name but she was super nice. We sat outside under an umbrella on a pretty hot day but it was quite tolerable. Looking forward to my next opportunity to visit. read more

Westside Grill was listed as a local spot in Gilroy for dinner. We had a party of four and did a walk-in without reservation and was able to get a table very quickly. It was a few minutes before we were greeted for drinks and we ordered cocktails. They had a variety of beer, wines, and cocktails from the bar and a few special items listed on a side menu. We decided against appetizers, but we did order a a few different items off the menu including the Gilroy garlic festival pasta with linguine, a prime rib with vegetables, an Alfredo pasta dish, and also a fillet with mashed potatoes. Each dinner item came with a salad or soup and we had a variety of dinner salad, lobster bisque, and the best one was a clam chowder They did have dessert menus that I would imagine delicious but we opted not to order. Our waiter was very helpful, professional and delightful for service and appearance. The restaurant manager did come by to ask if we were enjoying our dinner and any problems or thoughts on our dinner and we said it was exceptional. What started as a quick breakfast on the way back from Carmel to San Jose, Westside Grill knocked us out of the park with its beautiful outdoor dining, great service, and fantastic food. Parking is incredibly easy to find since it's in a commercial area. When we arrived we were seated in the outdoor dining area which is more of a courtyard, in a good way. The interior is very nice as well with TVs, a bar, definitely a much more intimate feel. Either way, the outdoors has umbrellas so you don't feel too burdened by the heat. We were greeted by our amazing server who was very attentive to us throughout the entire meal, making small talk and just having a great energy. That's one that stuck out here, the service was incredible and very on top of it. We never lifted a finger or worried about a thing, it was all taken care of before a thought could occur. Onto the food, we ordered the buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon, the breakfast burrito, and some coffee. Coffee is always pretty much whatever you make for yourself so nothing special there. What was special was the size of the food we got. In California we are so used to shrinkflation but the burrito was the size of a human head, it was incredible. On top of that the cost of the food was good, the value was apparent. Some places make big portions but lose their quality in the process, not here. The pancakes were light and fluffy, just delicious. The bacon was crispy, not overcooked; floppy, not soggy. The breakfast burrito was out of this world. At first we had to come up with a plan of attack on how we wanted to approach this monster but after the first bite it was so damn good we threw the plan out the window. The hash brown that came with the burrito? Also great, salty and crunchy, but again not over or under cooked. By the end of the meal we were shocked. Between the beautiful outdoor dining area, the food, the service, price, everything; this was such a wonderful surprise that really caught us off guard. Unfortunately for us, this is in Gilmore, not anywhere near us. However, it was largely unanimous amongst our group that if this place was anywhere closer or if we lived in Gilmore, we would be here without fail every single weekend. What an amazing menu of fabulous foods. The lobster bisque is absolutely top notch, but that's just for starters. I chose an amazing dish of Fettuccini with a perfectly balanced blend of garlic, butter and parsley. The pasta was perfectly cooked with just the right texture and flavor. The shrimp were large, plump and delicious. A true winner. Our table of 5 were all delighted with their choices and our server Celeste was knowledgeable, in both food and wine paring as well as area wineries. She was friendly, professional, and attentive. They have tvs at the bar with the games on. So much food, we all left satisfied with very full bellies. I had the crab and avocado melt. It came with clam chowder and fries. Everything was delicious! Most of us ordered the same thing. One friend got the lobster bisque instead of the clam chowder and it was creamier than expected. Another friend ordered the jambalaya pasta and really enjoyed it. Of course we had to try dessert. Shared the apple pie and bread pudding. Bread pudding was different than any other bread pudding I've ever had but both were very tasty. We made a reservation for 6 PM on a Friday night. I was a little taken aback when we got there and it was packed inside near the hostess stand. I stayed outside while my husband checked us in. The wait was gonna be a little bit, so my husband went and got us some gin from the bar. He came back and said it was a bit expensive, but they were super heavy pours. After about 10 minutes, we were seated and the service was amazing. Super attentive and the food came out fast. We had the Ahi appetizer which was outstanding. We each got salad instead of soup and it was yummy with bleu cheese dressing and crumbles. Hubby had the blackened salmon which he loved, and I had the halibut which was fantastic. Large restaurant with sunken, full bar. There are a lot of tables with chairs and rows of booths (which I feel are a little cramped). I went on a Sunday afternoon and was happy to have made a reservation. We were seated immediately at a booth but was accommodated with a table upon asking. The service was very attentive and friendly. I ordered the Santa Cruz skillet which didn't have as much flavor as I expected. My mother ordered the chili verde with eggs which was phenomenal! We dined for lunch yesterday (Saturday). We were greeted by a friendly young man. I believe he said his name was Charlie. He was exceptionally professional & offered warm hospitality as he sat us. Our server, Lorraine was friendly & efficient as well. We shared the prime dip sandwich & a house salad. Everything was delicious & generously portioned. Have had Westside Grill quite a number of times because we live so nearby (plus no more Relish so fine dining is nonexistent in Gilroy). I have to say that Westside Grill has always been a disappointment, and we choose it due to proximity and lack of options in Gilroy. Every time I order the prime rib, they just can't give me a cut that's not too done and dry. Last time I ordered it, they also gave me a heaping of the salt and pepper crust, which was not edible. They also pack you like a can of sardines in the restaurant. They really try to maximize their money, which ends up for a horrible experience with minimal seating room and terrible ambiance. Food is of poor quality, service is ok, ambiance is horrible, and decor is drab. I refer to Westside Grill as the overpriced Olive Garden of Gilroy. read more
