For a moment this place had me thinking it was actually a union building. Color me surprised when I look inside and see a fully stocked bar! Of course I had to stop by and get a drink. Asked for a double and the bartender poured a massive shot that felt more like a triple. Sure it was expensive but honestly I'll take it for the extra spirits. Place is pretty big with lots of seating, pool table, and a mini patio type window. Only downsides is that they don't allow kids and the bathrooms were atrocious. Definitely won't be coming back here A group of us (4 adults , 2 young children ,age2-6) decided to give this place a try and got a few beers, after about 5 mins from getting our beer, the bartender comes over states his manager reviewed camera footage and we can't be in there with kids. Now I'll say ,kids are no saints but definitely were not being rowdy or running around recklessly. I'm calling bullshit. Depending on the ALCOHOL content of your draft beer, they give you a certain size acrylic cup to drink it out of. ARE YOU SERIOUS? Beers are $7 whether they are 10 oz for the boyfriend's Stone IPA or my 14 oz 805. Whatever happened to the pint? Love what this place could be. Once a keg runs out, the screen on the wall changes to what is currently available, adding a new brew to the menu. There's a couple pool tables, dart boards, unisex bathrooms, some really fun kitschy funnies in the wall. The decor is an A++ with a very cool bar, selection of alcohol, and accent wall. The roll up door brings the outdoors in, which I totally like. The bartendresses are very helpful and nice- they were really great. If the owner would go to full size beers at $7 ($1.50 more than our favorite watering hole) we would go back... but if he wants it to be hipster and "different" and rip his customers off, then it's not for me. Stylish looking place that seems branded as a socialist spot (but they capitalists). Bars are normally dim on a Saturday night, but this place was a bright as an operating room. It's just strange to be able to look at someone like 100 feet away in a bar and see them so well. There was lots of security. I guess maybe things pop off here? I dunno. It's weird when it's dark outside and then you enter a bar and it's bright as day. It's like backwards. Oh well. There are normal bars. This isn't one. read more

Came here just to shoot pool after dinner on a Friday night. $1 a game pool tables were both free when we walked in, like at 8:30pm, which was nice, because I was worried they'd be taken The bartender was in charge of music and was playing a mix of zeppelin and then Chingy "holiday inn" so there was variety. Thank god no mariachi or whatever, like someone here griped. Not being racist but I prefer my music to be of the classic rock and hip hop variety. There is a bar down the street where we heard Mexican music playing so there's no shortage of that in these parts if that's what you hanker for. Tables were in good condition, and the bar menu looked varied so it's worth going to if you wanna stay within gilroy city limits. Sure, the bar wasn't dimmed like someone else mentioned, but it really didn't bother me. I didn't think it was as bright as an operating room, and I don't mind being able to SEE who I'm with, or the cue ball on the table so I can actually play pool when I'm there. I came to this place last week with some coworkers and was disappointed once again. First, they have not changed their plastic cups for glassware which makes no sense after being open for several months. Nobody wants to drink a cold beer out of a plastic cup. Secondly, my buddy ordered a Moscow Mule but was told by bartender that she had to put it in a plastic cup because they didn't have any copper mugs. WTF? Lastly, we ordered an Old-Fashioned and bartender said she didn't have any oranges, but could make it with lemon?? Starting a business is difficult, but after several months, you should be able to appease your customers with simple additions to your bar. read more

I'm writing this review with sincere hopes that the owners are taking all of this feedback seriously, and realize that a few easily-fixable things will make this a 4 to 5 star location. I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars, but will give three for the fact that they opened a beer bar in a town in desperate need of a reason to stay there, and not spend your money in Morgan Hill. Decor, layout and staff are nice. Those are the hard things to fix, but they're already good. Need to fix: #1: 14oz, $7 beers in plastic cups. Maybe this is a trend (as they state on their Facebook page) in places that sell crap beer, but no respectable beer bar will be going to plastic. #2: Music volume: Could barely hear the person I was with. #3: Happy hour from 1-5pm, M-F, domestic beers-only. Who can go to that? A pint of beer has been a standard since the beginning of beer. Sure, some higher-ABV or rare beers should be served in 10oz. only, but pouring less than every other place at the same price is just a bad start. And at least have a few $6 beers like your competitors (BBQ 152, Running Shop). Also, maybe a happy hour that extends to 6pm to catch the folks driving from San Jose, or getting off the first train, which arrives at 5:30pm? I went here once, and won't be back until at least the plastic glasses change. BBQ 152, The Running Shop (and soon, Golden State Brewery) offer a better craft beer drinking experience and will seriously put pressure on Bartender's Union to make some changes. I will happily post a 4 or 5 star review if they listen to their patrons and improve the experience. read more

This is a newer bar in town that opened up the summer of '17. Its opening was highly anticipated here in town for there were very few bars in town. Most bars around are located usually in restaranta here. I was pretty impressed with the remodel from the old dive bar that was there before - Azteca Bar, then previously Oakwood Lounge. The decor has a nice modern feel to it & its always clean. They have two pool tables & s jukebox. Now for the beers. It opened up and had some pretty good ipas. They have 20 taps and most were ales with a few stouts and maybe a sour or two. The last time I went it seemed like half of their taps were stouts or sours which only left about 10 taps with diff ale selections. I don't drink sours or stouts and I like a good selection. They do allow you to sample beers though. The only knock on this place is that the lights are pretty bright. They have two tvs & usually show sports. They also just switched out their cable provider to now pick up all local games, finally. I like going during the day on Saturdays as its not too crowded & I can catch a game with a few buddies. Weeknights I hear are also nice small crowds. Weekends evenings can be busy though. read more

So they don't give you full pours here. A standard IPA is a 14oz pour(should be 16) and a double is a 10oz pour (should be 12-16 depending on the cost of the keg). WTF? They try to give me some BS saying it's cause of the high alcohol percentage. Ahhh yeah this isn't my first rodeo. Also they have mostly Safeway type beers not a good craft beer selection at all. So many local breweries from all around and they didn't have one. Go to golden state down the street or Promise land next door for a proper pint. Better yet go to running shop and hops in MH if you want a quality craft beer selection. read more

Why where we just asked to be quiet because we where too loud on a Tuesday night? It's our coworkers bday and we were playing darts and had one drink and the bartender said we were loud. if you wanted to go be quiet go work at a library, movies or a funeral. Worst service ever. I'm so surprised that the bartender is even allowed to work there. I'm not sure his name but he's a tall slender man. He was rude to every single person I was with, even other people at the bar said he was rude. my friend wanted to pay with cash and card and he just gave her the cash back and said no we're doing it this way on the card. He acted like as if everything we said was stupid. I'm not one to complain but I downloaded this app to say this because I am shook that that's even ok. read more

This place has a LOT of potential. It's really exciting to see a beer bar in Gilroy, that I'd want to actually go to. However, they need to upgrade their tap list. I'd still go to Running Shop for better beers. Also, what's up with the glasses? They're weird and plastic. And what in the world is the line for on the glasses? The bartender didn't even know what it's for. It could have been an opportunity for the bartender to educate and impress me. Boy, I had great hopes for this place. I don't think the love of truly great beer exists here. I always have trouble trying to find a beer to drink. Almost all of these beers are mediocre. Plastic glasses are another star loss. My beer friends just laugh when they see the plastic glasses. The owners may save a few bucks, but this won't be my steady beer bar. The place is also really loud. It is tough just ordering a beer. The walls, ceiling, and floor just echo all the sound into white noise. Recommend 152 BBQ (best beer place in town), Running Shop and Hops (Morgan Hill), Straw Hat Pizza, Ale House (Hollister), and the 18th Barrel (San Juan Bautista). 152 doesn't have the greatest vibe, but they make up for it with the best beer (by far)in the South County. read more

I have been looking forward to checking out the new spot in Downtown Gilroy. It did not disappoint. Great beers on tap and great ambiance. The only negative is $7 for 10oz beer in a plastic cup. I went here with high hopes. I really hope the owners take this feedback for what it is- opportunity to improve. The decor is awesome but not one chair with a back in sight. Uncomfortable and not a reason to stay very long. Lots of beers! Great! Plastic glasses. Nope. Lots of alcohol! Hey can I see your cocktail menu since this is a 'bartenders' union. Oh you don't have one. And the reason you tell me for no menu is that you aren't a restaurant... hmmm. What? So I have no idea how much a cocktail that I ask for will be but I go ahead and ask for one. You don't have the ingredients. Back to the decor and those catchy phrases on the wall- some of them are a bit snarky. You don't make mojitos? What's wrong with mojitos? Your blender's broken? I guess that means no blended drinks. Judgy considering you don't tell me what you do serve. Just not friendly. No snacks? Not even bar mix? Hmmm. They might make people stay longer just saying. I didn't stay long enough to go to the restroom but I imagine a late night visit would be unpleasant for most women in a unisex bathroom. I hope the owners rethink some things and make changes. Great addition to Downtown Gilroy. I love what they have done with the building and the ambience is awesome. I went in on a Tuesday and I was surprised to see a good handful of people on a weekday. Right when you walk in there is a few high top tables, 2 pool tables and a digital jukebox with all sorts of tunes. The bar has a digital display of all 20 craft beers they have on tap, because it's on a monitor Im assuming they will switch out what they carry on a regular basis which is cool. They also have a fully stocked bar for mixed drinks. Over all it's a great place to hang out and have a few drinks with friends. The only downside (or at least to me it is) is the fact they use plastic mugs/cups for the beers and plastic shot glasses as well. Don't get me wrong they're not like cheap solo red cups or anything of that quality they're nice quality clear mugs/cups... but plastic. I'm hoping it's just something they're trying out while they get business rolling and eventually move up to nice thick glass mugs. I'm not going to knock them stars because of something small like that. read more

Going to give this place a 4 due to the high prices of the craft beer, plastics cups and usually a horribly flithy bathroom on the weekends. The beer selection is usually pretty good and constantly varying of craft beer. Don't come here looking for a blue moon, you will be SOL.
