I am surprised at my self that hearing so much and loving bagels so much, haven't tried this Western Bagel that has been around for a very long time. Probably over 25 years or more.. Service by Brandon fell short, when I walked in yesterday at 1pm. He was trying very hard to take my order. I think he was a new employee or something. Still in the process of learning his job. Didn't smile, was stiff, and not pleasant at all. I ordered 2 bagels. An Onion Bagel with egg, bacon, avocado, tomato & Mozzarella cheese. The cheese was not melted, the bacon was not crispy at all and barely any bits to it. The 2nd bagel was a lox bagel with capers, chives, cream cheese, lettuce & tomato. On everything bagel. Both bagels were not toasted to my liking, was cold, lox was not fresh, and the blueberry muffin that I ordered never made it to my table. I had to go twice to ask him for my Decaf Iced Vanilla latte and the 2nd bagel(lox) was not cut in half. Place was somewhat clean, there were 2 tables that was dirty with napkins, cups from the previous customer/S, before I even walked into the shop. No music playing overhead, and parking is in the back. The shop is nice and big with inside and outside seating. The last star that I gave; is for Brandon to do his job well and I do see that he's got potential. Good luck to him! I will be back to try other bagels and other flavors. read more

I'm updating my 2023 review because I previously mentioned the shrinking bagel sizes.... thankfully, things have changed for the better! The bagels are now back to a normal satisfying size (even though prices have gone up a bit). I recently tried their Baily Round, and it was absolutely heavenly. The texture was perfect: chewy on the inside, slightly crisp on the outside and the everything seasoning added just the right balance of flavor. Its great to see a local spot that listens to feedback and continues to improve while keeping quality a top priorty. read more

I used to love this store, bagels are great, the service, and especially the guy with red hair he was the best. It always felt consistent and reliable. But lately everything has changed. Every time I go in now, it's a completely new group of people. It feels like they're only hiring teenagers who clearly haven't been trained. My order has been wrong every single visit, and on top of that, I've been overcharged three different times. One morning, I walked in and there was literally a small fire happening in the back. There were about five teenagers standing around not knowing what to do. That should've been my sign, to never come back. But today was the last straw. All I ordered was a simple toasted bagel with cream cheese, and somehow that was still wrong. The "hot coffee" is never hot , just warm . I'm really disappointed because this used to be one of my favorite spots, but the inconsistency and lack of proper training has completely changed the experience. I hope MANAGEMENT steps in soon, because it's gone downhill fast. read more

I just ate a burned bagel at Western Bagel. I should've turned around and walked right out when I came into the store. The smell of burnt bagels hit me in the face the moment I walked in. I hadn't been to this place in a couple of years because they never seemed to be able to do anything right. They had a tendency to burn their food. They got orders wrong. I decided to give them another chance today after a couple of years off. Once again, my onion bagel was totally burnt. I thought about taking it back in, but I figured it was futile because they would only just burn it again. My egg à la bagel sandwich didn't have the cheese melted at all. At least the person who took my order was nice. One star for service with a smile. Another star for the fact that she went and checked to make sure that she did have pumpernickel and onion bagels because they were not out on display. It's too bad that this place just can't seem to get it right. It's not a good advertisement when you smell burnt bagels the second you walk in. When you purchase a dozen bagels, they give you a 13th for free : I had the chance to try the whole wheat one, and the everything bagels seeds one, they were so fresh and so moist, I enjoyed it tremendously! I came in today to place an order and order a slim bagel that was on the menu. When It came time to pay, the guy gave me the wrong order and gave me the wrong amount. He realized he made me the wrong order and He told me he had to make a new one since it wasn't the bagel I originally wanted but the problem was I was running late to work already and I had waited already eight minutes for the first order. I asked him if I could pay the same amount of my original order or if I can get a small discount since it was his mistake. I was running late, but the guy told me no and had to wait again. It's disappointing because he rather lose a Customer or get any sort of money for the business. I've been coming here since I was a kid! I love how festive this location gets with every holiday season. Service is always so great and I've never experienced them messing up my order. There aren't too many bagel shops in the SFV, but Western is always great in a pinch if you are looking to bring bagels to the office, or cater an event. I think their lox, produce and cream cheeses are solid. Their breakfast sandwiches are quick and hit the spot. They also have a selection of pastries and cookies available that you can take to-go as well. For some reason, my absolute favorite thing at Western Bagel is their hazelnut coffee. I could drink 25 cups of it in one sitting. It's always hot, has great flavor and free refills! This particular location has lots of great indoor and outdoor seating. Parking lot in the back makes it really easy to come and go. While Western is not my FAVORITE bagel in LA, it still hits the spot when I need to scratch the bagel itch. read more

Service was awful 8-9 people working. Who ever was on the register allowed people to walk in from the side door and cut the line to order. Waited 15 min for two bagels and it looked like employees weren't putting gloves on. This location used to be my favorite but it seems to have gone down. read more

Ordered breakfast bagels and "orange juice". The juice is generic sugary trash that was listed as actual orange juice. The veggies on the bagels were soggy/rotten. The bagels taste old. I was in the plaza after a wax appointment and was really craving bagels so I came in to try it out for the first time. I ordered my bagel sandwich and saw multiple signs saying they have a chocolate banana shake so when the lady asked me if I wanted anything else I said yes the shake to which she said no we don't have it so I said okay and moved on. She was making my sandwich and had not yet charged me. I was waiting for awhile so I looked up to see that she was making a chocolate banana shake which confused me because she said they didn't have it but was then making me the shake? Anyways I was happy because I really wanted the shake. She gets done and then proceeds to charge me the $14 it cost for the meal. I take my stuff and leave. She then chases me to the parking lot because her manager ASSUMED I did not pay for my items. So I came back in and showed my bank statement and explained to him that I did pay? I know he knows he made a mistake because he apologized and looked uncomfortable but imagine how uncomfortable that was for me. Safe to say I will never go back. I'm a manager myself and I would never assume anything unless I knew for a fact. Clearly they do have the shake that was posted in 5 different locations in the store. WOW read more

I am a bagel junkie and have tried multiple bagel shops over my lifetime. Western Bagels is consitently good! The bagels are always fresh and there are plenty of choices. I am also very picky when it comes to the freshness and quality of lox, and Western Bagel never disapoints. The service is fast, and they actually get my order right when I have them delivered. I was sad when the West LA location moved to a shared kitchen since there are less options, but happily drive to other locations to get my fix. This place is legit and makes a good bagel. NYC is the gold standard but these were solid. I enjoyed a sausage egg and cheese sandwich on an everything with cheese bagel and a Naked berry juice. Yes, there are many locations for Western Bagel. This one is excellent and yet I rarely go there despite being six minutes away. But I ordered via Door Dash the other day - three sesame, three onion - and they arrived about twenty minutes later and were really fresh as if they'd just been made, which is, of course, as it should be. I had two with cream cheese and two with tuna and my mouth was happy. I do read with some amusement how no LA bagel can compare to a NY bagel - well, I've had both and I've never understood the praise for NY bagels as if they were the living end. I've had fine bagels in NY and fine bagels here. Funny how that works, bagel-wise. In the meantime, you can't really go wrong with Western Bagel. read more

Came here one morning with a friend wanting to try something new. We were in a carby mood where I got a lox bagel and he got an egg bagel as we both had coffee. Breakfast sandwiches hover $8-$10 with a choice of bagel. Additionally, there is coffee but his was flat and my latte was tasteless. I will be skipping in the future since it tastes like milk poured on top of coffeemaker coffee and wasn't too tasty. Service is good with plenty of parking in back. Terrible customer service and a rude manager at this location. We live near Studio City and stop by from time to time and it is by far the worst managed location we've been to. The Woodland Hills store is great. My wife placed an online order for pickup. We arrived and for over 20 minutes she waited while many others came in, were served, and left. Every time my wife politely asked if the order was received and for an update, the staff told her "no, your order is not ready. We make everything when you order it. You'll just have to wait." What's the point of having online ordering ahead for pick up?? It's a bagel, not a Michelin star restaurant! When I came in to ask to speak to a manager about our experience, the person I asked apparently was the "manager". I wish I got her name as she was extremely rude and did not care or attempt to apologize for her store's chaos. There was a line out the door full of people who were waiting or ignored. When I expressed my concerns she said "We're short staffed, there's nothing I can do. I can't help." That set me off more as I'm sorry that's not my problem. You're the manager and responsible for staffing. I was more upset with how my wife was treated. I always acknowledge how hard it can be when places are short staffed and try to be understanding, but that is not the response you give to a customer. The ownership of this place will hopefully get more help and offer training to their managers, but doubt that will happen. The manager I dealt with certainly needs more training and feedback on how to handle a customer. The bagels are good, but the experience is definitely not pleasant. We've decided we'll be taking our business elsewhere. When I mentioned this to the manager, she just replied with "Go ahead and go somewhere else, I can't help you" then walked away. Just another response to solidify going elsewhere. It's not worth the wait and inconvenience for a simple bagel here. read more
