Vanilla Cloud Cream Matcha
Mohammad A.

Finally made it to Café Matcha on Ventura and it did not disappoint! The matcha itself was really good, you can tell it's quality matcha. The vanilla cloud cream on top was the perfect complement, not too sweet and it pairs beautifully with the earthy matcha. Together they just work. Only reason I'm giving it a 4 instead of 5 is the size for the price, they could've been a little more generous. But the quality is definitely there. Worth a visit if you're a matcha lover! And if this review helped, a thumbs up is always appreciated

Good... but not great. So, the Cloud Cream Matcha with dairy-free foam is delish - my friend says it's too heavy on the coconut, but I don't taste it... or maybe I just don't mind it. I did try the version with dairy foam and wasn't a fan. Matcha can be quite bitter, and the dairy foam seems to bring out the bitterness a bit too much. Maybe the coconut really IS pulling its weight. I went home and added oat milk. The Princess Cake Matcha Latte is SO sweet, I could barely finish it. Yes, you can ask for it to be less sweet, but I had no idea it would be THAT sweet - and, of course, I got it to go and couldn't ask for modifications. My biggest issue with Cafe Matcha, though, is the portion size. WAY too small for the price. The food looks good, but I have yet to try something. Parking is available in the plaza lot. Let the parking attendant know that you're there for Cafe Matcha and you won't have to pay.

I visited Cafe Matcha back in October of last year when it had just opened, and I've had this review sitting in my drafts ever since. It was a busy Sunday, especially with the Studio City Farmers Market happening nearby, so we ended up parking a bit farther away and walking over. The location was easy enough to find once you're in the area, as its right on the corner of Ventura Blvd. and Laurel Cyn. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved at a decent pace. I'm assuming it was mostly due to how popular the drinks were at the time and people taking their time ordering. The space itself had a clean, trendy aesthetic that fit well with the Alfred Coffee vibe. We ordered matcha lattes, and they were surprisingly good in the best way. Smooth, rich, and not watery at all, which honestly can be hard to find. At the time, seating was pretty limited, but I've noticed they've since added an outdoor seating area, which is a nice improvement and makes me want to go back and see what else has changed. Overall, it was a great first experience, solid matcha, cute setup, and a spot I'd definitely revisit now that it's more established.

What can Cafe Matcha offer me that Alfred doesn't already deliver... walk with me. I'm on my way to my next gig and on this venture to caffeinate myself and grab a bite to eat, Cafe Matcha is somehow more accessible than the Alfred a block away. Parking: Plan to park underground at this lot as spaces on the street level are limited. But I was early and only me and another party were there. Upon walking in Lo-fi Music and a smile inducing showa modern (mid century Asian influenced) diner style setup is aesthetically pleasing and invites you to stay a while. The menu is fully Asian inspired miso glazed pastries and soba noodle bowls. I clock the strawberry matcha with the house made strawberry syrup! My springtime flavor obsession is the Strawberry Matcha Latte! They have a great selection of non-dairy vegan milk options if you don't see your preference ask as I noticed some were not listed on the menu yet! Now the food selection... I need a small quick to eat pastry style item. I ask "are there any vegan pastry options" nope none Only option that MIGHT be vegan is the Soba Noodles but Unverified. (I didn't check as I had to add on a a stop to the nearest vegan bakery off of Riverside Dr the one with Toluca in the name) Needless to say that was disappointing, but food offerings are still being rolled out. I look forward to seeing at least one vegan pastry or a grab and go vegan breakfast/protein bar. Total time it took from ordering to getting my drink as the first to order of three groups (5people total including me) was 12 minutes. They decided to work on everyone's order at once so mine came out with an order from each party. This place is still newish and they will improve on the flow, for now plan on waiting a bit. How was the drink? It was perfection, the matcha was smooth and perfectly accented with a balanced fresh strawberry syrup. No sweetener needed nor was the sweetness overwhelming. It was just right! The layering was beautiful My one gripe was mixing the strawberry syrup into the rest of the drink because there's a groove in the bottom of the to go cup that made it hard to get it out and mix it in. The syrup being more whole fruit based is too dense to get away with shaking or swirling the cup to mix it. Overall I will be getting more matcha drinks from here and maybe try the Soba (if it passes dietary restrictions). Overall Cafe Matcha offers a different approach and vibe from Alfred you won't find a matchanga here but you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality!

So glad to find that they have princess cake matcha latte here! I loved the drink when Alfred's had it but was sad that it was seasonal there. However, I would not recommend the waffle. For one, they don't serve it on plates here even though all the pictures show the food on plates. Everything is given to go even if you dine in. It is hard to cut into and eat the waffle out of a box. The waffle is also pretty dry and not warm enough for the cold butter to heat up on it. They also gave me day old/expired matcha milk jam lol.

Made my way to Studio City and made a quick stop at Café Matcha. I ordered a strawberry matcha cloud latte - it was SO GOOD. Perfect amount of sweetness and just overall great flavor. You could tell they are not scrimping on ingredient quality here. My son took one sip and ended up taking my entire drink, I regret not going back for another one. I'll be back again though! I want to try their pastries next time- I couldn't decide which one to get. The café interior was tinier than I expected, there was a section with booths in the middle and some additional seating along the side. I'm sure it feels pretty tight during their peak hours if they have a line going.

Visited Cafe Matcha on a rainy Saturday and received friendly, quick service. There are 2 small booths, 1 table, and a bench with tiny tables. I was able to snag a seat to hang out for a bit. Yes, the drink sizes are small (see my photo for reference next to a 36 oz water bottle). For me, the $7.50 oat matcha latte with vanilla syrup was a good size, but I could see someone else finishing the drink in less than a minute. Unless specified, matcha drinks all come with the house matcha (no extra surcharge), and all milk options are free. The house matcha flavor was smooth, earthy, had umami but was not at all bitter. The vanilla was worth the extra 50 cents. Will be back if I'm in the area.

Amazing Cloud Matcha! I'm a huge fan of creamy and sweet matcha and this place hit the spot for me! They have milk substitutions (dairy or plant based) for the latte itself and the cream top. Love the flexibility with adjustments! Wish the cup size was bigger though since it was too good and i finished my drink so quick! Service was friendly and only waited about 3 minutes for my drink to be ready. Interior is small with limited seating, but very clean and modern designs. Outdoor tables are available, too. Love that there is free parking within the plaza as well. I would definitely come back to try their other drinks!

The Princess Cake iced matcha.

The matcha is smooth and creamy and has a quality taste. Several matcha choices on the menu. The environment is cute and inviting. It's pricey though. And the portions are small--if you account for the cup size, ice and cold foam. You're not getting much bang for your buck. Service has been kind the two times I've treated myself to their upscale drinks and food items. There is a shared parking lot available. There are several other businesses in this strip center. Cafe Matcha sits right on the corner of Ventura Blvd. and Laurel Canyon. They're closed on Mondays and close at 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday. It's worth a stop in, if you're a matcha fan, but you're going to have to have a hefty paycheck if this is going to be your morning stop on the way to the office.

Matcha Cloud Cream and Matcha Milkshake
Alexandra G.

I am shocked at how good the matcha was and how much space the cafe actually has once I walked in lol. It is a sit down cafe and they serve food too. We ordered the Matcha Cloud Cream and Matcha Milkshake. I was concerned with the size but both so delicious. Weird opinion but the milkshake almost tasted like sweet corn, very buttery/creamy, and the iced matcha was sweet, pinch of salt gave it depth. Best matcha I've had. Staff was nice and friendly.

Yeasty Waffles (super good, light, not that sweet)
Yoojin S.

Indeed one of the best matchas in town!!! Matcha latte - matcha is on the more savory, nori-like umami taste. Very strong and delicious! Also their oat milk is KOJI oat milk which I feel like is a special probiotic boost to your usual oatmilk and it's pretty good! Pistachio Matcha Latte - Wow they captured both the strong pistachio nutty flavor and the matcha flavor well. Both are strong and works together very well. Not too sweet either. Hojicha Latte - Delicious. but the matcha was so good that it did get overshadowed. YEAST WAFFLE - this was listed at like 24 hr proofing with the yeast. And it's SO GOOD in flavor and texture. Best waffle I've ever had? Also the matcha syrup is also strong and not too sweet. This was my favorite pastry there that was tasty on its own and complimented the matcha latte perfectly. Aesthetics are beautiful. It's a very well designed cafe! Also free parking in the lot.

Today was the grand opening of Cafe Matcha and I have been counting down the days. I've been following this spot for over a year and since it's by the team behind Alfred Coffee, I knew it was going to be good. Cafe Matcha is a matcha-only diner and it somehow feels both super modern and nostalgic at the same time. Think high-quality Japanese matcha served in a setting that gives off classic American diner vibes. It is the kind of place that makes you want to hang out for a while. I ordered three things and loved all of them: *Matcha Cloud Cream (Matcha, Milk, Syrup, Cloud Cream) *Green & Black (Matcha, Cold Brew Coffee, Half & Hald, Shaved Chocolate) *Miso Carrot Danish (White Miso, Heirloom Carrots, Mornay Sauce, Ao Nori) I already can't wait to go back. There are so many other drinks and snacks I want to try. If you're even a little curious about matcha, this place makes it feel really fun and approachable. So glad it's finally open.

I was excited to hear about Alfred's new matcha café. It's located in a small plaza in Studio City, and there's free parking in the plaza lot. The interior has old-school colorful diner vibes with a good amount of seating. I ordered the Cloud Matcha Latte with oat milk. I'm wondering if there is a lot of inconsistency because I was very underwhelmed. It was hard to appreciate the taste of matcha. I could only taste the cream / milk. The price is also on the higher end that isn't justified by the quality or taste. Overall, I wouldn't say it's on my list of favorites or recommended matcha spots in Los Angeles.

They use Onyx (from what i noticed), and the sound of the milk being steamed sounded silky (-: ! I think saw they used a bottomless portafilter ? Might have mis-seen. But for those unfamiliar, bottomless doesn't divide your shots into two physical shots. so it looks like "one" shot. but it would be 2 shots if it had that attachment. Shots are dialed by weight, so your coffee will be consistent! The layout of the cafe is nice: entry/line formation moves in a counter clockwise motion. Allows customers to enter space and wait in line while leaving space for people to exit/ wait to pick up their drink. First come, first serve for pastries - expect this for freshness purposes. Drink and their components are measured for consistency and quality control. Wait is subjective in relation to volume at the time which you go. Came in at about 1:30 PM on a Sunday (today was 8/16). Curated menu for their specialty drinks that aligns with their identity. Standard menu for espresso based beverages. Great selection for their Single Origin menu. Roasters they use align with those they highlight on their shelves for retail as a multi-roaster cafe. Ordered a Columbia from Hydrangea - enjoyed thoroughly! When it was still quite hot you get the heavy aroma and flavor of the pastry notes in the coffee. Then more tea-like once it cools down more. Coldbrew in the Woodman did not feel like your typical bold-in-flavor base. Which I think works for the inclusions in the beverage. Not your typical/second wave coffee shop. It's cool to see shops want to bridge that gap between fun drinks and specialty coffee! Kudos to Lynx!

A friend and I came in at lunchtime intending to order lunch and coffee, but we had to leave without ordering because there was nowhere to sit. About ten of the available tables were each occupied by a single person working on a computer. I understand that cafés can be comfortable places to work, but in such a small space, it would be helpful if Saint placed some limits on laptop use during busy meal hours. Customers coming in to enjoy lunch or coffee together should also have a reasonable chance of finding a table. The space itself feels really nice, the kind of spot you could bring a book, host a book club, or just settle in to study for a while. The floral wall and overall aesthetic make it feel like a little oasis. As for the drinks, we got the Superglow Latte and a seasonal pumpkin latte with pumpkin cold foam. Unfortunately the coffee itself just wasn't that good, I'd rate it around a 2/5. Honestly comparable to the Capital One Cafe coffee in terms of quality, and I was hoping for more given how much thought clearly went into the space. That said, the barista was really nice and helpful, and the vibe alone makes it worth a visit. I'm giving this a 3/5 overall, mainly for the atmosphere rather than the coffee itself. Walked in today at exactly 2:20pm and there was no one to greet me at the counter/register. Waited for like almost 10 minutes, still no one. I had to ask one of the customers if anyone is working here? She said yes, he is in the back. With that being said, I went to look for that he. Harley still didn't come out for another 5 minutes. When he did, he just stood there with a serious look on his face until I started to ask him a few things about their menu. Everything here is vegan. The bakery section was practically empty, except maybe 5 pastries in it. The shop was very nicely decorated with plants, decor here and there. You can also purchase plants for your house. (indoor plants). It was very cute, moderate size and quaint. I ordered from their Coffee/Latte menu. They also had a separate menu for Matcha drinks. Got myself a Iced Blue Lavender Latte with Oat milk free of charge. ($8.00), it was interestingly tasty and very refreshing. Then I ordered their Breakfast Burrito that came with: sautéed mushrooms, pickled onions, avocado, tater tots, and egg. ($17.00). Total was $54.00, and some change. Since I was very hungry, got myself their Avocado Tartine on a nicely toasted slice of Sourdough that came with: avocado, tomatoes, pickled onions, capers, and a tiny scoop of garlic mayo. The garlic mayo itself is 5 stars. It was that good. Great portions, prices were expensive, the coffee shop itself had a good vibe with great music playing overhead, they had a gender neutral restroom and only street, valet, and metered parking. They also have some outdoor seating. Last, but not least, I also got a Croissant that was stuffed with great amount of Matcha. I haven't had something like that before. ($8.75). I asked for a receipt, and Harley said he can email it to me, but I said I needed a printed copy, and he refused to give it to me. I may or may not return. Food was very fresh, delicious, hot, and came out pretty quickly. That's all for now.
