I've been bringing my Honda Civic here for over 10 years. He does good work at a fair price.

I brought my car into Laureano Morataya and he came off as a kind and honest person, he told me what parts to buy so my bill wouldn't be too crazy. So I got a water pump, coolant housings, 2 bottles of coolant, and brake master cylinder and I dropped it off at 8:30 in the morning. 5:30 pm he called me and said it was done. I get there and he didn't do the brake master cylinder because he said the pads and boots were bad, and the belt tensioner was broken so he had to put a new one on. He charged me $750 to do the water pump and replace that coolant housing piece.. Next day I see a puddle under the side where the coolant housing is and I called him. He said bring it back in on Monday. I show up and he isn't working, the other mechanic is there. We popped the hood and he squeezes a hose and says that a bad hose. I said that hose isn't properly attached, you can see the hose clamp isn't on all the way. So he gets a mirror and says look bad hose. I say again, I can see the coolant coming out of the improper installation. Then he gets defensive and starts raising his voice at me, trying to bully me into leaving my car there so he can replace every hose on it... I drove off to a gas station a block away and borrowed a flat head screwdriver, put on the hose, and it hasn't leaked again. Next day called The owner to hear his side, maybe he was doing it at night and didn't realize the hose was put on wrong? But he said the same thing, hoses are bad bring it in and we will replace them for you. I told him that I fixed his mess up, dropped half of my coolant, and I wasn't happy with his work. I asked him to replace the $50 worth of specialized coolant. He asked for my address and never showed up. This was 2 weeks ago Just want to warn everyone, these guys aren't as honest as they seem to be.. read more

The Owner/Mechanic is a very hard working, honest and will tell you everything that is wrong truthfully that should be a concern to be fixed. He always was on time and accurate with the amount of time he needed to work on my vehicle. Also was extra careful and cautious checking all working components. Also he is straight forward with his estimate giving the best fair price for the work and proved to me after two other failed all day mechanic trips sitting waiting for the diagnostic he charged 1/3 the price of one dishonest mechanic trying to take advantage of that it was not as expensive as explained and Westdale Auto offered me the best price and quote I was floored to have finally met a honest mechanic not trying to take me for a ride which 2 other/establishments were again that I felt there price quotes were VERY high and didn't seem to have a good/solid answer for the explanation of such pricey repair quoted. I continued to ask to have a peace of mind that there high quote was a for sure a guarantee to fix/address the problem. I was told to give this mechanic a chance through a personal reference that stated they had family that had serious work done at this auto body shop & were very pleased with the work and price. I highly recommend this establishment because again this mechanic is truthful and will not make up any false repairs or overcharge just to do so to take advantage of your precious time and money. I have been there 2 times total for serious repairs and was very pleased with my services. I have brought my car back for another repair and fully trust Westdale Auto to repair my vehicle or try to with the best capabilities & options possible to keep my car in good excellent working condition. I will be returning from here on out knowing he is a very knowledgeable experienced mechanic and will fix my car correctly to meet all specifications required to be running at its best performance. Also this car is 16 years old I was insulted at both of the dishonest shops stated when I question the cost of the high repair bill and certainty of fixing the issue I was told from the technician's answering me back with my questions of concerns that my car was old. lol never insult a customers car or age. That just showed and proved to me they really weren't that great & knowledgeable as Westdale to actually work on my car or fix the issue. Laureano seems like a nice guy and can work with you on prices and has always helped me. He's more than reasonable and fair but sometimes he likes to try to test you on prices so make sure you've done your homework. He's recently has asked me to pay really high prices so I'm not sure if his rent was due on his shop or what, but for small to intermediate jobs like strut replacement, he's okay. You get what you pay for. He knows how to do things. Just not as well. But still a bargain if you compare him to say a stealership. edit: I will update on something though. Every time I was there, he always had a VW he was tinkering with. Overhaul, rebuild. He looks to me like an expert and pro especially on the old bugs with the engines in the back. Laureano seems like a nice guy because he *is* a nice guy. If you have an old VW like we do (Bus), this is the only place to take it. After shopping around several places that claim to specialize in VW's, his was the only reasonable price for the work. He had to rebuilt our engine, and he did it cheaply, quickly, and perfectly. It runs like a DREAM now. Since the major overhaul, we've had a few minor quirks here and there, and everytime he sees us right away and fixes our small issues for free or so little money that I feel bad taking it there. I worry we actually might be ripping *him* off. He definitely understands what it means to built repeat business. Bottom line: Does it have an engine? Yes? It goes to Laureano. Love him! read more

I asked my friend who work at an autoshop in Culver city. He said yes he charged me on a pricier side. When the job is done he said $120. When I handed the credit card, he come back and said no, $180. He said he don't charge for the labor, only parts if I come back, but the parts was risen after I come back and he finished the job. He theaten to take the parts out of the car if I don't pay. I wasn't about not to pay, just asked for the original price back or discounts for the parts. I already suspicious of his labor charge the first time I came to him but it was an emergency situation, it happened on the freeway and i got scared; and since its not too far from my work place and I just started my new job also, I though i just let him do it and not go to my friend's shop. I think he see my vulnerability and a woman, and decided to Amp up the damn price. I was pissed! read more

Laureano has been servicing my 73 VW Karmann Ghia for about 20 years. I actually used to bring it to Aurelio who owned the shop before Laureano took it over. I have never been disappointed and all the work is down correctly. All the reviews that claim his knowledge and professionalism are spot on right. If you need somebody that knows what they are doing from changing a lightbulb to rebuilding a vw engine this is the gentleman that can do it at the best price. I have been to all the so called best mechanic shops but in order to get the best job at the best price by the nicest man and without worrying that the mechanic is going to do something you don't need done..... you have to have it done here! read more

So far so great. Found this shop by driving home from work, saw two custom VWs outside. As an owner of a custom, rare auto-stick VW I've had problems finding people to give take a look at it and those that do don't know what they are doing, they just needed the work. My car has literal built in problems that are surfacing as I drive it. This shop took in my beast, fixed the problems as they arose and didn't charge me crazy prices. I'm saving up for a complete over haul now and will be dropping it off soon. read more

Laureano helped save our butts when traveling in our '85 VW Vanagon. We had a blinking red hot coolant light and temperature was way too high. He knows VW's so he bled our coolant system PROPERLY unlike some Van specialist shops I've been to and we've had no problem since. Laureano is truly the "King of VW's", as another auto repair shop said when I asked them to work on my bug, and they were correct. The other shop referred me to Westdale for my repair work and I am very glad that they did. He fixed all of my many problems and has my car running like it has not run in many years. A truly great mechanic who is very reliable, trustworthy, and - most importantly - not very expensive! He works on all makes of cars and trucks but specializes in VW's. Laureano is the man. He is honest. I have been bringing him my car since I found out about him 3 years ago. It has come to a point where I am confident enough to just drop off my car tell him what is wrong and drive off without talking price or other shinanigans. His prices are awesome never over charges and he will even show you the parts he took off or replaced if you ask. If you want a honest mechanic that ain't gonna try to rip you off he is the man. Oh and for the LADIES out there who are scared to bring a car to a mechanic without a guy, he is your man.
