I would not recommend this business. They took 3 attempts to get a prescription somewhat acceptable. During those attempts my glasses were missing from staff. I got a re-exam and the doctor stressed that my problem was cataracts. I just got an exam by an eye surgeon in West Seattle and he said on a scale of 1 to 4 rating cataracts - I barely have a 1. The doctor will not take a phone call. I will now report their practices to higher peers - State Board of Optomery. read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I was determined to get glass today and this place is actually recommended by a friend. We entered the store, and seems every staff was occupied. Ok, we can wait...so we waited in the store and started checking out frames. Finally a tall lady came and ask if we are looking for anything. We told that we are looking for frames and do you have recommendations? This lady gave some suggestions and told us to focus on two sections in a very cold tone and left after that. And she started helping a new customer who came after us. We found couple of frames that we like and wanted more information from her, so we said hey, this one looks good, and she responded "uhm uhm...good" without even looking and just walked away seems she cannot care any less. Ruby at West Seattle Optix was very very helpful for me. I needed to switch the lenses in my glasses for another pair, and she took care of this for me. Unfortunately I can't say I've had a good experience here. I came in for an eye exam with Dr. Gormley and while he was incredibly friendly, he was sooooooooooo talkative about everything BUT my eye exam, that at times he forgot if he had checked something and would have to restart the exam. The technology seemed fairly old as well. He told me my prescription got better and only gave me 2 days worth of samples for contacts that weren't even in my prescription to try. When I called to ask for samples for another style, I was told I'd get a call back to confirm...but that never happened. When I called again after finally getting contacts at Costco and realized the prescription felt pretty weak, I was told that Dr. Gormley would call me back to chat about re-examining my prescription, and that never happened as well! I ultimately decided I'll unfortunately have to get my eyes examed again after the new year somewhere else because I don't trust the efficacy of this office or the Dr. When I called today for the 3rd time to get my insurance unauthorized to use at another location, I shared my feedback about my disappointment with their lack of follow through, and got hung up on. I called back, rightfully a bit frustrated but calm and respectful, to confirm my insurance was unauthorized and didn't get an apology. When I shared my frustration about how I was treated, again, no apology from either staff I spoke to. Please save yourself and your hard earned insurance and go somewhere else where the technology is A) updated, and B) you are respected. If something feels off, it most likely is. read more

My boyfriend has been going here for YEARS. Every few months or so I call to refill his prescription contacts and once they are ordered, it only takes a few days to get there.. HOWEVER the worst part is trying to order them. I will literally call multiple times a day for multiple days in a row before someone actually answers the phone. I don't know why I continue to leave voicemails because they go unanswered. More than a few times I have tried driving in to place the order, or even pick up the contacts, and google says they close at 6, and they are always closed 10-15 minutes before 6pm. It makes it difficult to get there when I leave Tukwila at 5:30pm. As polite as the girls are here, the inconveniences for the customer outweighs it. read more

Every time I try to schedule an appointment for myself and my family (there are four of us - so 4! potential new patents) the receptionist - a young man this time - treats me like it would be a huge bother to schedule us. They offer dates 2-3 months out - which I understand but telling me to "look elsewhere" instead of working with me to find times convenient for me and my family is just POOR customer service. Must be nice to have so much business, even in Covid, to be able to suggest and actually nudge clients and potential clients to go elsewhere. So I will take your suggestion and go elsewhere. Like some of the other reviewers, my prescription wasn't right after I got my glasses and was told to wear them for 2 weeks. I have been wearing glasses for 25 years and the optics just weren't right. Went back after 2 weeks and had a re-exam. Confirmed the lens prescription and the astigmatism settings. Glasses cost $300 and gave me a huge headache after wearing for an hour or two. Got tweaked and went to another West Seattle optician for an exam. Son of a... my prescription was OK but the setting for my Astigmatism in both eyes was way off - by 30 in left eye. Contacted them about recouping the cost of the exam or lenses and was told that they do not refund. I do business locally when I can, but these guys are 100% off my list. There are other local shops that provide better care during and after the exam and transaction. read more

My daughters had been seeing him for years and today was my first visit, I now wish I had started going there, with them, from the start (I'm stubborn and already had one that I had been seeing). The horrible service offered by a Mr. Logan Peck at Optix of West Seattle today was the most unprofessional cutomer service I have had to deal with at Optix, whose quality of services had been declining. He was told to refund money I paid four days prior, yet he continually changed his story of when I should recieve my contacts. He demanded an appointment for my goods alreadt paid for be pushed into the future farther and farther with his attitude being worse to the point of my demanding that I recieve a refund due to his continued rescheduling of an appointment for my already paid for goods to be given to me. His attitude was so rude that I had to explain to Mr. Logan Peck that his problems would cost Optix, the optical store of Dr. Gromley, who Mr. Peck is employed through, the good reputation they once had. He then rudely hung up. I will not let my friends, nor myself be subject to such gross want for propper medical goods and services as were once possible from Optix of West Seattle. I then had to explain to Mr. Logan Peck that I would have a bank credit card membership services representative review the problem caused by him, only after they refund my money, as is the usual protocol when a vendor is acting poorly with a bank member's funds for goods or for services are unfairly or improperly negotiated and needing to be reviewed. After trying to be so rude to me with regards to my time, my money, and my health care, Mr. Logan Peck then hung up on me. I will not let friends do business with Optix of West Seattle, nor will I be going back to do business with Optix. Gone are the days of Dr. Gromley and the ability to have better health care services. read more

West Seattle Optix has a policy of offering no refunds for glasses purchased under any scenario. I purchased a pair and they were uncomfortable after a few hours of wear. I tried several times to have them adjusted but nothing helped, so within 2 weeks of my purchase I went in and asked if I could get a refund. They said they couldn't offer a refund on the lenses because they were custom ground for my specific frame/prescription, so I said: "fine, I'll eat the cost of the lens, just give me a refund on the frame", but they wouldn't even do that. Spent 600 bucks on frames/lenses that I never wear. Most major brands, such as Lenscrafters, or Market Optical, will offer you a refund. I suggest making sure you go to a shop that offers refunds (as I will). You don't want to risk getting stuck with glasses you can never return. read more

I went here for my eye appointment to get a prescription for glasses and contacts. The optometrist was very friendly and professional. The ladies helping out front left something to desire. They were friendly enough but there were major issues finding my insurance and I was given the run around. I found another office that was able to find my insurance so I'm not sure why the confusion. When I requested my prescription to go elsewhere the lady on the phone was very curt and rude. They have great reviews so I'm not sure if it was just me. Disappointing. I first came here because it was a small local business and I would rather support these establishments than national chains. I did get very good service and products (glasses and contacts) the first time around... when I was handing over my money. The following year I went and paid for an eye exam, bought new contacts but couldn't find frames I liked. I took my Rx and went to Nordstrom's new glasses department downtown (they are awesome btw). A few weeks later I was getting some headaches from wearing said new glasses so I made an appointment with my eye doctor at West Seattle Optix. Stage 1- Passive aggression: "Oh I see you didn't buy your glasses here. Was there a sale at Nordstroms?" Stage 2- Mud slinging: "You just don't know what kind of quality you will get some place like that." Stage 3- unwillingness to help "I just have know way of knowing what they made these lenses out of. What ever it is could be affecting your eyes. Sorry, you should have bought them here." Then he sent me on my way with my headaches as perhaps a suitable punishment for my unfaithfulness to his shop. Really!? Are you that upset about losing one glasses sale? I was perfectly happy, and expecting to pay for this office visit. I wasn't asking for any favors, just for you to do your job... doctor up my eyes. Well now you have lost a customer. After all that all the glasses needed was a frame adjustment behind the ears which the excellent Optician at Nordstrom did for me. read more

Their customer service used to be great, but something has changed profoundly in this store. The same manager is there but no longer seems to care about taking care of a problem. I made the mistake of purchasing a pair of LA Eyeworks frames there -- very expensive and I mentioned that I was concerned about the durability of the paint on the titanium frame. I was assured that they would last for many years, and if there was a problem with chipping, they would address it. The paint started to chip within 8 months of purchase. They replaced the frame as it was still in warranty and said that there can be bad batches occasionally but that generally the paint should be fine. The next pair was chipped three months later by one of their employees who adjusts the frames. I had gone in because the earpieces were digging into my skin. She didn't change the fit of my earpieces but did tighten the screws attaching the earpieces to the point that they wouldn't budge. And she had scratched my frames in the process. When I showed the manager the scratches, she contacted LA Eyeworks and then informed me that my warranty was expired. In my frustration of having a $1,000 pair of glasses that was scratched by the employee, I visited another optical store in Westwood Village to ask what their policy would have been. They said that they do not sell LA Eyeworks frames because they are too expensive for the workmanship. And they happened to noticed a gap in my frame that they offered to close up. It took them 5 minutes to file down the glass so the frame closed around them, and said that it should have been done when I originally bought them. It's now five months later and the areas where the employee scratched the paint has gotten much worse. Paying for another pair of glasses is not in my budget right now, but when I can afford it, I will replace them. The two stars are generous -- I'm hoping that they get back to the customer service they used to offer. But I'm going back to the store in Westwood Villiage next time. read more

I wanted to patronize a local business, so went to this one. When it turned out I was unable to wear the glasses, I was bullied and stonewalled by Dr. Gormley himself. At one point he invaded my personal space, looked down on me and said, and I quote, "Just what is it you want?" This was AFTER I made it clear I expected to pay a restocking fee and AFTER I had suggested perhaps an exchange would work better for HIM. Oh, and AFTER Dr. Gormley said he could see why I was unable to wear them. I was in utter shock to be treated so rudely. By contrast, I went to Market Optical a few months later and purchased a pair there I was unable to wear. (I have a rather heavy prescription and a very sensitive bridge and some glasses are simply too heavy to be worn comfortably). Market Optical was incredibly nice and helpful, and let me pick out another pair which worked out great without so much as a restocking fee or anything addt'l. THEY now have a customer for life. The bottom line seems to be, WS Optix is great - unless you have a problem and then they want you OUT of the store. read more

I think Dr Gormley was fantastic. He was very nice and thorough. He made sure to explain to me my prescription and how it changed from my previous lenses. Not only that, but he helped explain my insurance to me and even showed me comparing prices for contacts. PS - their contacts are actually affordable! The staff was friendly and helpful. I will probably be looking for a different doctor just because of the location. I mistakenly thought this office was further away from the Junction itself. While not a problem during part of the day, I can't imagine polling for a parking spot to visit California Ave for business matters. The doctor himself is very nice. He's down to earth and doesn't stand on ceremony, though I had to check out his education certs on the wall for his name since he didn't introduce himself when he greeted me. I get the feeling that they are either rushed or feel the squeeze of working in such tight quarters when normally there is plenty of elbow room in a medical office. No one is very friendly either when they answer the phone or greeting you at the front desk. It would have also been nice if they had specified that I needed to bring my contact lens in to get measured if I wanted to get that done at the same time as getting a new glasses prescription. They ask what the appointment is for when you call to make it, but you need to be specific because they will not walk you through it. Thus, I will be picking up my glasses when I return from my field work and taking my contact lens matters somewhere easier to reach and more rewarding to work with for my trouble. read more

I love my local Optix spot, get my yearly check ups, get my contacts, get my glasses adjusted, get new frames and lenses when needed...never had an issue. I have never felt like the staff is snooty or snobby. They're just doing their jobs. I went in the other day because I stepped on my glasses like a clown. I was devastated, since I love these frames and my lenses had never been scratched. Staff was eager to help, careful not to strip screws, fixed my frames in 2 min for FREE, and wanted me to order new lenses since mine were under warranty. These folks are great! read more

Hmmm.. Why such bad reviews? Are we talking about the same place? As far as seeing the doctor goes, I can't speak on that. I may have went here years ago for an eye exam, but I can't remember my experience being bad. I won't speak on years ago though. I had my eye exam done at a place in Belltown, but their frames selection was absolutely horrible. Luckily, this place came up on my insurance providers list so I decided to come n and check them out. I came in when they were pretty busy one night, but I was still greeted by one of the front desk ladies that worked there who helped me significantly! She recommended tons of styles and went out of her way to make sure I was able to find something I liked. Unfortunately I had just ran over while waiting for a spot at the Matador, so I couldn't spend too much time in there. A couple weeks later, I came back and tried out a few more styles that the woman originally recommended and then was able to find some frames that I really liked. They told me it would take 7-10 business days for them to be ready, but I ended up getting them 2 days later. Fast! This place has an amazing frame selection. Again, I can't speak on the doctor because I only came here to get frames, but they were extremely helpful and really fast on getting my frames to me. No complaints on my end. read more

I have had nothing but problems with West Seattle Optix. They initially got my glasses wrong. After taking the glasses back to the doctor that had written my rx (not them), he confirmed that the lenses were wrong. After some run around they agreed to remake them. After claiming that they were "supposed to be off" due to new lense technology. A couple of months later the lenses were very scratched, even though I had paid for the the anti-scratch/anti-glare coating. They agreed to get the lenses replaced. The lady on the phone told me that she would just order new ones and I would not need to bring my glasses in. I called back two weeks later and they were waiting for me to bring my glasses in. I finally got the replacement lenses a week after that...and of course...the left lense is obviously wrong...everything is blurry. Now back to the drawing board. I've been wearing glasses for 30+ years and I have never experienced this much grief. read more

My family moved to Seattle in 2015 and found WS Optix quickly when my son's glasses (purchased out of state) needed to be adjusted/repaired. They did it with no appointment and no charge. Three of us have had exams and several pairs of glasses, all have been great. Isabella has an eye for style. When it is my turn for new frames, I have her pick them out. It is like going to Nordstrom. She provides honest feedback and saves me tons of time in trying to figure it out myself. I get compliment on my glasses all the time. What prompted me to write this review was that I stepped on my glasses today and they were broken beyond repair. I have a complicated prescription, so getting a pair in less than a week was not possible. I was so bummed. Isabella called me and came up with a creative solution. The thought of going without any glasses on this long weekend when I am planning to teach my daughter to drive was so discouraging. Very thankful for the personal service at WS Optix. Not so much I purchased designer frames w every upgrade. At time of pick up I struggled to adapt to the lenses. I was told I would adapt. ; kinda got bum rushed out door feeling like a failure because I could not adapt. After a week of headaches with appreciable "worse" vision I gave up. No improvement in vision, wasted $ 800. AND used all my vision ( allowance) insurance for 2015... Couple weeks ago I accompanied my husband downtown Seattle ( more professional in every way) to help him select frames. While at the 5th Ave Optical I was reminded how desperately I wished for better vision. While looking at the beautiful selection of frames, I considered purchasing but was not going to waste $$ (As I cannot adapt to glasses) The woman who helped my husband was perplexed when I mentioned I was unsuccessful w glasses. She asked if I would bring the glasses to 5th Ave Optical she offered to help me. I happened to carrying the glasses I purchased from West Seattle Optic ,,, after seeing the glasses are brand new she took them to back room returned to explain one of the lenses was not correctly aligned to my pupil!!!? I returned to West Seattle Optical asked them to check the lens placement. They too saw lens was incorrectly placed. I got glasses back in two weeks,,,. Yes, I was able to adapt. I love this little gem of an eye shop. My first pair of specs with them was phenomenal. The day I wore them out of the store, I received three compliments on my new blue frame. Mia and Logan are a force to be reckoned with - especially when it comes to picking a frame. They truly want you to be in a pair that looks good - so sometimes this takes awhile to choose the perfect fit. They are patient. They are kind. I loved that they made suggestions. I now have two frames over the course of two years that I adore. And I just found out that my insurance is not accepted at West Seattle Optix anymore, but I am a customer for life. Here's why: I went in today to pick up some contacts (even though they aren't covered by my insurance) and I locked my keys in my car. Total bummer!! Logan went waaaay above and beyond the call of duty - such a superstar!! I live only a mile or two from the store....he drove me to my house so I could get my spare key. This little shop is truly a community anchor. I am thrilled to have these guys on my roster, and Logan's willingness to help me with my car problem proves to me I made the right decision not to move clinic's. Even though it may cost me a little more due to lack of insurance, in the long run, my relationship is worth more than what my insurance offers. Thank you, West Seattle Optix. I have been going to West Seattle Optix for several years now. I really like Dr Gromley, super nice guy. I was just in last week and I noticed they have become a little more trendier these days. Staff is younger and more hip. After my eye exam I shopped for new lenses. Service was slow but it was packed, it seemed like alot of folks popped in off the street to look for new glasses or pick up ones that were on order. once they were able to assist the gal was very helpful and patient with me.. I'm an on-again, off-again glasses wearer; mostly for distance. So I went with the "progressive bifocals" and they were a bit like riding a unicycle; my eyes kept drifting downwards to the "near vision" part and everything got blurry. So I called them back and they ordered me some single vision lenses. Of course I was now on the fence for "weellll....... I KINDA get how the progressive bifocals work..." and I wish someone had said "wait two weeks and see how they feel then" because after I switched back to single vision all of a sudden I'm like "hey, where's my close-up vision helper?" Their patience with me was outstanding and they helped me pick out a really great pair of glasses that fit my face and make me look even smarter.
