I read the reviews for this place and I am left confused. The front desk gentleman has an incredibly horrible attitude, comes in late a lot and then treats the clients like he's annoyed that they are on time. My first experience here was during an easy run done cap hill. I stopped in to discuss appointments since UW is six months out. I personally have a traumatic brain injury that is affecting my left eye, so I needed an appointment to see a specialist. The man spoke to me from behind the plastic shield and his mask. I told him nicely that I couldn't hear him and he barked at me "I'll speak up then" with an attitude like it was my fault and then never raised his voice. I thought he was simply having a bad day and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt. I remember talking to him about my insurance verses L&I (workmen's injuries) but I don't remember much of it... again brain injury.... At that time conversations were still difficult to follow and I couldn't retain new info. This was explained. It appeared to be convenient since I can easily jog there as I am not supposed to drive much so why not move forward?! When I arrived for my appointment the women by the door in a wheelchair was welcoming and friendly. She struggled to get me the paperwork and apologized for the gentleman being late. She made it clear it happens often. I filled it out and when he arrived he didn't say hello to anyone and had a snarl on his face when he saw me. He took my paperwork without saying anything almost in a snatching motion. It actually startled me because he was coming from behind me. A few seconds later he slammed the clipboard back down and barked "this is double sided." His tone of voice and body language when I looked at him was immature and disgusted. My appointment didn't go well. The women hosting it was really nice but had no idea why I was there. He did not relay the message on my needs at all. When I explained to her that I have a TBI from a work injury she acted confused as to why I was there but we continued anyways. The lights flashing and all the tests on my eyes sent my brain into a downward spiral of pain. I couldn't complete the exam. If you've ever had a migraine then you can relate, this is similar. And I was just told that I now need glasses after I paid for Lasik. This was awful news and the pain was unbearable. I couldn't complete the exam. When I grabbed my stuff I listened as she told the gentleman that I'm not doing well and wanted to reschedule for the rest of the appointment. I walked up to him with my head down, eyes closed and tears pushing through my lids. He started scolding me about something. I couldn't really concentrate, he sounded like Charlie Brown. (TBI) I squinted my eyes to see that he just left another customer who was asking him a question, he didn't even ask him to hold on. He then ignored him when he tried to ask a question. The gentleman stood in front of me talking to me like I was a child. Worse then my parents have ever spoken to me. I said nicely "can we please do this when I come in next, I'm not doing well." At this point I'm still squinting as I can hardly let any light in but I see him just enough to watch his hands go up in the air and him angrily go behind the desk and scarf back at me "fine we will do it next time." His words were so harsh and immature that I couldn't believe I was standing in front of a grown man. I was done at this point. He yelled after me about making the follow up and I simply replied never mind. A few weeks later I called in and spoke to the nice women about getting my prescription for my glasses and she asked me to be patient for a few days because the man who usually handles that called in sick. I followed my instructions with emailing them and never received anything so I made the call yesterday to request it. "He" answered. I spoke with him nicely and explained the situation. He looked it up and came back with "we sent it on January 31, did you check your spam folder?" But he said this like it was common sense. Why would anybody check their spam folders unless they have a reason to....!?! No, I didn't check my spam folder. Though I didn't say this, I was yet again appalled at his attitude and lack of maturity in the way he spoke to me. I asked him to resend it and he said okay and then hung up on me. No goodbyes, have a nice days, or even f you. Just slammed the phone down. I read these reviews so confused how anybody would go here. I understand most of them are about Rebecca but the few that talk about the rest of the staff.. Has anyone else had this experience? i accidentally ripped my contact visiting and needed just a singular contact until i went home the following day (was visiting out of state) and everyone there was so helpful, sweet, and got me another contact. my vision is awful, and another place in seattle told me i probably wouldn't be able to get it anywhere but they had it! i spent the morning covering my eye, unable to read and crying because if you have terrible vision you know how hard it can be especially in a new city! thanks again to this place! read more

Today, I received my new glasses in the mail. Two weeks ago, while on vacation in Seattle (the 2nd best city on Earth, besides Paris), I passed by the shop, and saw some snazzy looking frames in the window. So, I went inside. The person with whom I spoke, Rebecca, listened to why I wanted new glasses, which (although I had a new prescription) was to "stand out" in a video call without looking like a clown. And, she immediately showed me excellent looking frames, which I loved and that fit as if they were bespoke made for me. Then, she showed me some more, and then some more. (Note to salespeople: when the customer is happy, make the sale.) I was convinced that I had a winner. However, I went home and did some internet shopping and stopped by Warby Parker, which is a few blocks away. My efforts were a waste of time. The frames that Rebecca initially showed me were (without a doubt!) the best frames for me and I could buy them from her for the best price, So, I went back to the store, and spent what I thought was an excessively long time discussing lenses. (No one had ever asked my opinion about lenses at VisionWorks or BJ's, where I had previously bought eyeglasses.) Then, Rebecca cut me a deal, b/c my insurance only covers glasses 1x/2 years, and I was on my way. I couldn't be more pleased with the result. That time choosing lenses was worth every nano-second. Compared to my previous eyeglasses, I can see like I have new eyes. When I first put them on, I was like one of those kids in a YouTube video who puts on eyeglasses for the first time. Wowza! TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE. The place is a complete mess! Went there a couple of months ago to get new glasses. The first time, the doctor messed up with my prescription and had to wait for them to fix it. Went back to add the anti-glare feature to my glasses, dropped them off, a month went by, they wouldn't return my calls. Saw them in person, the place was a complete mess, completely disorganized, the woman wasn't able to find my glasses, another week went by, and after many calls, the woman, told me the lab "lost" my glasses (this happened at the end of November) it's now 1/8/2021 - I still don't have my glasses, won't pick up the phone, tried to go in yesterday around 4pm (when they are supposed to close at 6pm) it was closed already. At this point, I don't know if I will ever get my glasses back. - DON'T GO THERE PLEASE! read more

Every staff member I interacted with was so nice and sweet. They tightened my glasses without even saying anything because they noticed they were loose and gave me a pouch to carry my glasses in after my contact lens fitting. So much wasted opportunity... I hadn't had an eye exam in quite some time when I was researching places nearby where I live to provide one. After walking in and scheduling an appointment I was confident that Hour Eyes would be able to provide me with proper service as I was able to schedule my initial meet quickly and with friendly reception, I even received an appointment reminder call from the front desk the day before (good start). On the day of the exam the pre screenings and test were done correctly with updated machines and the exam itself was alright. The doctor (he has an extensive last name that I forgot) wasn't very inviting as we simply went through the tests and he seemingly was trying to get out of there fairly quickly that night. After he dilated my pupils my guess was to sit in the lobby and wait for them to dilate but instead of being transparent on his process he simply asked me (in a rather rude tone) where I was going? "Idk doc, maybe so that I can let this liquid eye drainer do its thing?" is what I was thinking but I sat back down and let him continue talking or what not. After that fiasco I decided to do the contact lens fit and again doc dropped the ball by not pointing me to the bathroom to wash my hands, little details like this that are missed are not good especially in healthcare. I was able to get my contacts in easily (I used to be a OD Tech so I'm well versed in this stuff) then on my way out was expecting to establish a 1 week check in to make sure they were working correctly. Instead, the receptionist asked me how many boxes of contacts I was going to purchase and was going over payment options. That, to me, is strike 2...I simply can't purchase contacts without knowing if they're comfortable and offer proper vision enhancement. Strike 3 ended up being the lack of contact lens kit they were supposed to provide me, of course I forgot as well but that's part of your job is to make sure I have that kit before I leave, instead I had to purchase it myself. Hell, I even called back to paid for my prescription and just try to get glasses from another provider and when I called in to do so I talked to one lady who had no idea what she was doing mentioning that "she was not the one who called me for the payment initially" and that "she'd give me a call back". The hell does it matter if you were the one who called me, my file is there let me pay for my stuff and be done with this. Of course she never called me back and I had to take time out of my day to call them myself and get my prescription then get glass from Eyeconic.com (who is amazing by the way). Overall, this place has so much promise but is just so disorganized and disappointing and my guess is that they are doing too much by hand, losing notes and lack transparency/detail in their training processes. I stopped in Hour Eyes Optical on Broadway to see how much it would cost to get a new screw replaced in my frames. Matt who was working offered to see what he could do for me. As I waited very briefly Matt came out with my frames completed with a new screw and did it for absolutely nothing. I kept asking how much it was and he very politely said, "No charge!" I was asking continually the cost as I know it took a few minutes to repair and eyeglass screws do cost as they hold the frames together. But he continued to say it was on me and I was very thankful for his time and service! The main doctor there chain smokes so bad that my eyes sting and water when he's in close proximity (which is a necessity as part of any eye exam). It's no wonder that after 3 different attempts, he still couldn't get my contact prescription even remotely dialed in. I only stuck it out that many times because his staff was so nice (but they've since moved on). Based on his curt tone, I always got the impression that he was more interested in going out to get a fix than he was actually helping his patients. One of the techs there also chain smokes, but is too lazy and rude to even walk away from the shop and always smokes upwind of a cafe with sidewalk seating. When asked if he could smoke downwind / elsewhere, he rudely refused. The doctor at least has the decency to go walk down the street to a nearby parking lot to smoke. read more

Everyone was really nice, but the business is super disorganized. They had my phone number and birthday in my file wrong, which happens, but as I was in the waiting area, another customer had to correct their file as well. The contacts they originally gave me were mistakenly the wrong prescription. (I was very confused the first time I put them in!) I had to pay $70 for a contact exam, but really all it was was a prescription re-fill of the same exact prescription (well, after I got the prescription corrected, that is). There was no additional exam performed. The doctor (whose name I don't know because they haven't updated their website since the old doc left) told me he would give me some eyedrops, but he forgot. I ordered my Acuvue contacts through them which should have been eligible for a $100 rebate, but they didn't provided me with the correct receipt which would need to include the brand and quantity purchased. When I asked for additional paperwork and test results, they were not able to provide them. If you go here, I recommend getting the Rx and ordering the contacts yourself. The staff there was really friendly but the business itself needs a consult or something to get it running smoothly. I couldn't honestly recommend this place to a friend. read more

Purchased 3 pairs of glasses from this company in September of 2020 and was charged in full for all 3. They delivered 2 of the 3 within a reasonable amount of time, but 1 pair has been ordered and lost now 2x. All I've been asking for is my money back, which they said they would do on 12/22/20, but I've yet to receive a call back or a refund and it's now a month later. I've never had such a horrible experience dealing with another company in my life, and I'm not the type that enjoys writing these reviews, at all. But, I'm at the end of my rope and extremely upset and frustrated with how I've been treated. I went to this place for two years. I tried really hard to continue to go this place since I wanted to support a small local business as much as I could until it had an impact on my health. The doctors are inconsistent, have a bad attitude, and honestly don't care about your health. They push Cooper Vision contacts so hard. It's embarrassing that I fell for their recommendations to switch from Accuvue, which I had used for decades and fitted well, to Cooper. The biggest part of the problem is that Cooper lenses are monthly compared to bi-weekly of Accuvue lenses. I mentioned my concern since I'm a patient with dry eye disease and the doctor said that switching to monthly's wouldn't be an issue. I would advice the owners of this place to find a good doctor that cares or change the core business to the retail side only. Rebecca and the rest of the staff are helpful, kind, and nice. read more

My eye appointment just felt very condescending. The optometrist questioned if I was 'telling the truth' during my eye exam, suggesting that I was trying to make my prescription 'worse' than it is. I was also told I was likely not going to figure out how to put contacts in/out and they acted shocked when I was able to do it easily . After numerous unsuccessful attempts we took them to Hour Eyes Optical and they were fixed in a matter of minutes! I really wanted to like this place and my first impression was so. Amazing selection, great service from Michelle, nice ambience, and quick service. I picked my frames, paid for them, was told they would be ready in 1-2 days. After that day everything fell apart. I was called twice telling me I needed to upgrade my lenses for anti scratch and ultra thins (otherwise my lenses would be coke bottle thick). I said ok and was charged an extra $200 dollars bringing my total to $585!!! Eeek I got busy and did not make it in to pick up my new glasses until the next week. I walk in and wait a good 20 minutes until I am even acknowledged. Finally a woman comes up and asks me if I have been helped. I respond no I have not and that I am here to pick up my glasses. She goes to a computer, which I am pretty sure she has never used one as it took her eons to even figure out their system, looks up my account and just turns around, goes to the back and about two minutes later some man comes out. Needless to say this man was extremely rude to me and blankly says, "did you receive a call that your frames were compltete?" Me: "No." Man: "Well why would you come in if you did not?" Me:" I was told they would be done four days ago. " Man: "Hate to tell ya, but your lenses are on back order (in the most a-hole way imaginable). Me" (Mouth open in amazement) I would have at least expected a call about that sir." Man: "We'll call you when they are ready (walks away)" So a month... A MONTH... goes by and I finally call them and a girl answers and takes my name and says "well gosh... not sure what happened here... still not ready. I will call you when they are." I respond, " No... they will be ready today... I paid a lot of money and should not be waiting this long." So in the end I had to wait another week, go get them on my lunch break, grab them and they just send me on my way. When I get home the lenses are so bad I cannot see out of them and it looks like I am looking through a fish bowl. The glasses are going back and hopefully I will not have to wait a month for them to be fixed. Shop at your own risk!!! I do want to thank Michelle though... she was fantastic! read more

Staff is incompetent, disorganized, and are liars. Doctor John J Bluff was a complete jerk to me and to his staff. Avoid this place! Do not support this business. I know this is a lengthy review, but I encourage you to read about my experience before you consider doing business with these people. I was a first-time customer. I found out about Hour Eyes Optical using my insurance provider's website. I called them up, explained that my insurance will pay for either contacts OR frames and that my plan was to use my insurance to buy contacts from them, and to buy new glasses later, myself - out of pocket - elsewhere. I explained that I wanted them to fit me with some contacts and then provide me with whatever information I'd need to buy glasses online. The guy on the phone told me that wouldn't be a problem. Sweet. So I book an appointment with them for 11 AM the next day. Day of my appointment, I show up on-time. The store is pretty dead. One of the employees asks me why I was there, so once again I explained my situation to them (how I wanted to buy contacts from them using my insurance, and how I also needed those measurements to buy glasses elsewhere). They say cool, no problem. They ask me to wait to see the doctor. After nearly 20 minutes, someone finally asks me to follow them into a room where they took some photos of my eyes and whatnot. Afterwards, they tell me to wait again to see the doctor. I sat there for another 20 minutes or so, and at this point I start to wonder what the heck was going on. Finally, they tell me that the doctor was "stuck in traffic" and that he was going to cancel his appointments for the rest of the day. Having taken time off from work for this appointment, I was frustrated, and after telling them about my disappointment, they agreed to reschedule my appointment later that evening, which I thought was weird because the dude had just told me that the doctor was canceling all of the remaining appointments for the day. But hey, I thought maybe this new appointment was with a different doctor or something, I don't know. So I agree to come back later that day. Later that day, I show up on-time for my rescheduled appointment. When Dr Bluff and I went into the eye exam room in the back, he asked me why I had made the appointment. Once again, I explained my situation (how I wanted to use my insurance to buy contacts from them, and that I also wanted them to provide me with whatever measurements I'd need to buy glasses myself out-of-pocket elsewhere) and the guy rages on me. Dr Bluff became EXTREMELY hostile and rude to me when I asked him to provide me with a print out of my prescription and pupil distance measurements. He was inexcusably derisive, lecturing me about how buying frames online was a bad idea. All I did was ask him to measure the distance between my pupils. I had clearly communicated my plan to their office at least three times at this point, and if this was going to be a problem, they should have told me earlier. Besides, I was going to buy contacts from them, so it's not like I was only asking them to give me an exam and split, so I don't see what his problem was. Regardless, the way he treated me was unacceptable and offensive. When I confronted him about his attitude and about how he missed my appointment earlier in the day, he tried to blame his staff, saying that he never works on Tuesdays before 2 PM and that my appointment was made by mistake. Since this was not what his staff had told me earlier, I told him that his staff lied to me and said he missed my appointment because he was stuck in traffic. He did not apologize for wasting my time, or for the fact that his staff lied to me. Instead, he walked me back into the lobby and found the guy that booked my appointment with me on the phone. He then proceeded to chastise this employee publicly, in front of me and all of the other staff and customers, which was awkward and embarrassing for everybody involved. At this point I am disgusted with his behavior, so I told him that I would not be returning or doing business with them again in the future, and that I would be telling as many people as I possibly could to avoid doing business with them. I asked him to make things right by providing me with the measurements I'd need to buy frames elsewhere, and he begrudgingly did so, but it was very obvious that he put in the minimum amount of effort required to examine my eye sight and prescribe lenses. When he finished the exam, he briskly left me to wrap things up with the same guy he humiliated earlier in the lobby. Needless to say I promptly left after receiving my prescription and pupil measurements, and did not buy any contact lenses. Probably the most awful experience of my life. VERY UNHELPFUL, the staff has NO idea what they are doing, completely incompetent, full of ego and pride that they can't even admit their own mistake or answer any basic questions regarding optics. Maybe they are good at selling you frames, but then they should just be a fashion store which they even fail at that. Bad culture. Bad service. Incompetence. Disrespect. Uncommunicative. and full of empty promises. They did a new prescription for me. Not only was the prescription AWFUL and prevented from seeing and working everyday, when they adjusted it, they forgot to write down very important information, so when I went to a different place to get lenses, I couldn't even use the prescription! the staff from the other place asked me, well this information is absolutely incomplete we can't order anything with this. I asked them 4 times to send me the new prescription with email, they didn't. They didn't even call me when I had my lenses in. my prescription is written on a business card... with incomplete information. I'm not even going to get in to the fact that they could not pencil me in a normal time. I called them friday, didn't hear back, called them again saturday they said they would call me back after a customer, called me back saturday 5 minutes before closing and said they couldn't do anything today because they close soon and next they open is Tuesday. WOW. Waste of Time, energy, money and definitely caused a TON of stress. This place should not exist and please don't go here. I was a disappointed when my daughter showed up for her appointment and was informed that it was 2 hours later then the one we were given upon the initial appointment phone call. I was disappointed that the typical eye exam tests were not given. I was shocked when my daughter walked out of the exam in less than 10 minutes. I was disappointed that I paid $250 for a pair of glasses (after insurance) to find out later they had no warranty. My review is based on my contact lens fitting exam experience here. The eye exam was fine - staff seemed knowledgable and personable. They didn't mind answering questions. Overall a 4-star experience - nothing that blows your mind away. For contact lens exam, they said they would order a few trial lens (asked me which brand I wanted and I told them) and those would arrive in a couple days. One week later: I called them up to check on the status and the person on the phone told me that they ordered a non-existent pair of lenses (no idea how/why one would do this). I was offered some alternatives and I picked the one that would be available the soonest. The person on the phone said that those should arrive in a day or two. One week later: I called them up again to check on the status and I was that lens they had ordered is on backorder and it would arrive "soon"! Yet another week passes by: Called again, they said it will arrive in a day or two. 3 days later: Lenses actually arrived!! Scheduled my appointment for the fitting exam On the day of the exam: My appointment was at 1 30 (at least that's what I was told). I show up and the staff tells me that they had me down for 1p and offer to rebook my appointment for another day. No one seemed to care about the discrepancy in the scheduled time! To summarize, its been a month (to the date) since I got my eye exam and I am yet to get a prescription for my contact lenses. Looking at reviews from other users, this seems to a common theme with this shop. If you have the time and patience to deal with all of this, I highly recommend this place. If not, I would look elsewhere. read more

This place is SUPER expensive and I'm pretty sure that they lied to me when I wanted to cancel my order. I was deciding between a pair of glasses at Hour Eyes and a pair of glasses at Lens Crafters. I wanted to support a local, independent business...so I placed my order for glasses at Hour Eyes. Then I went back to Lens Crafters, and found out that the glasses from them would be less than HALF price. I called Hour Eyes approx. two hours after placing my order, and the sales assistant said that my glasses were 'en route' to the lab and couldn't be cancelled. However, when I placed my order, she told me that they couldn't be sent to the lab until the next day. I think she just wanted the sale and wouldn't cancel for me. I'm not about to plug lens crafters...but I would have saved about $200 if I'd never set foot in Hour Eyes. read more

The doc was professional, personable, and able to communicate important details to a layperson. The rest of the staff were equally professional, courteous, and helpful. Plus, they're a VSP provider. Final note: very simply, my exam was on Saturday, glasses were ready on promised Tuesday. read more

Finally !!!!!!!! they are open for business after a lot of trouble and heart ache with the lenders and the contractors too the building management I really love the service I get here, I just went a little over a month ago and had my eyes checked, at another place since they were not open here yet , but I wasn't really happy with the whole experience, so I decided to go and get my eyes checked again here as I really like the staff and the Doctor here. and I am so glad I did I need to get Bifocals or Progressive lenses now and I know they are gonna cost me but I need them as i drive for a living the prices here are reasonable in my mind if you want designer glasses you will pay designer prices bottom line, I found some frames I liked and the girls here helped me decide from them all 2 frames that I think will look very good on me ( warren you will be missed ) so should be sporting new glasses in a couple weeks so bottom line if you need glasses or contacts or just want to get your eyes checked, and live or come to the hill this is were I would send you if you were a friend of mine read more

I was helped by Brandon. He helped me fine ; he was kind and guided me through the process of selecting the best eyeglasses lens options for me. Why a one star rating , you may ask? Here's why. I went there on Nov 12th 2014, ordered and paid for two lenses in full. I broke my glasses , such that I needed to wear my contact lenses for 16-18 hours per day. Anybody in the Optometry industry would tell you that length of usage per day is not recommended at all. I have high prescriptions ( higher than 7.00 for both eyes), so I needed to rely on using contact lenses all day long until I receive my new glasses from Hour Eyes. I explained that to them. They said normally lens would take approximately 7 business days to be ready for pick up. I requested them to expedite the process, in which they agreed. They said it might be ready for pick up within 4-5 business days. Great. Thank you. I called in multiple times in the next couple weeks, only to be told that my glasses haven't arrived. It was the second week of December when Brandon was the one who picked up the call, and said he would investigate into why my lens haven't arrived. Fast-forward to 16th December, I was notified that my order arrived. I don't know if the problem lies with their supplier or laboratory, but waiting for more than a month wasn't a pleasant experience, especially when they had the knowledge that I explicitly stated and requested that I needed the glasses asap. Oh and for the $290 that I paid, they did not give any eyeglasses case that would cost a mere $10 in Amazon. They said the frames were not purchased in Hour Eyes, so they couldn't give me one. I bought at least 10 brand new eyeglasses (or their lenses) in the past ten years, and never have I walked off any store without an eyeglasses case. That's plain ridiculous. read more

Totally blown away by my experience here. My Group Health optomitrist recommend their "Eye Shop," disgusted by their selection and not accepting VSP I consulted my trust YELP (whoo hoo!) to guide me in the right direction. Convieniently around the corner from Group Health on Broadway, I was blown away by the instant and friendly service. Nick let me look around myself, no pressure, but when I was on my 20th pair of ridiculous looking specs he pulled out a few and BAM found my perfect pair. 30 minutes later I was all set up, glasses to arrive within 7-10 business days. I also liked how the glasses were set up by designer/brand, rather than male/females. Kudos to acknowledging us crazy kids these days may prefer less gender specific duds. All different ranges of prices, so don't be deterred that it's too fancy pants for you. A great selection of glasses for all types, from grandma readers to omgaaah they match with my scarf hipster goggles. Walk in, find awesome glasses with awesome customer service, about 30 minutes later all ready to go? I'm a big fan. A must try when glasses shopping. read more

I've been to 2 other optometrists since moving here 5 years ago and, after finding hour eyes, I would not go anywhere else. I have some pretty weird eye issues, which seem to have made me a frequent visitor, but each time i had to come in, they were so polite and very friendly. they were always willing to help me through all of my latest contact lens trials (thanks guys!). in the end, I would recommend them above any optometrist in the area. In fact, when my father came to visit me from california, he decided to have his eyes checked here too. he really liked the doctor and said he was extremely knowledgeable about his craft, which is a pretty big compliment, since my dad's a physician himself. I got some excellent spex here too! read more

I had a great experience here. Very friendly and professional service. Got beautiful frames for a good price and a pair of old frames to use as prescription sunglasses for just $30. My insurance doesn't cover optical, but their eye exam was reasonably priced and very quick. I can't think of anything they could have done better. Dr. Saif was so helpful and customer-service oriented. We discussed my changing eye prescription issues, and she took the time to assure me that all my questions were answered and that I found the right prescription for reading, computer and distance. As an engineer, my questions are usually information-based, and she explained everything technically and perfectly for a non-eye-doctor person.
