Totally unprofessional. The store opens at 10am and I had an appointment as the first patient. By 10:20 there was still no one able to complete my appointment in the store. I was told that their staff always comes in late because it, "takes some time to register a patient and complete paperwork anyways." All I was told was that someone would arrive soon, but they couldn't tell me when. If you are going to run a business and take appointments, then you should show your customer some respect. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED - this review is long overdue. I broke my only pair of glasses and was in desperate need of a new pair. I was able to make a last minute appointment, came in, received an updated prescription, and the staff helped me pick out a pair of glasses that would work with my existing lenses until I received my new pair. The staff stayed afterhours to ensure I had a pair of glasses on my face before I left. - This situation happened a few years ago and I never left a review as I had intended. This situation; however, is one of the best stories of customer service and relations you can have. These folks won me over as a patient for life. read more

They tried to send me out the door with the wrong eyeglasses that were made incorrectly because my prescription was written down wrong in my file! I'd been a patient of Dr. Gormley since 2001. Up until 2015 my vision was 20/20 or 20/15 due to LASIK surgery. But over the course of 2015-2016, it degraded very slightly by -0.5 diopters of nearsightedness (where objects in the distance look a little blurry). So I had Dr. Gormley make a pair of prescription sunglasses for me. When they arrived and I put them on, my vision was *instantly and noticeably worse* than without glasses! Everything in the distance looked blurrier than ever! I complained several times to Logan, the eye care specialist helping me, but received a strange string of Kafkaesque responses: "Your eyes are just getting adjusted. Give it some time. Why don't you keep them over the weekend and let us know next week if your vision is still blurry? You won't be able to read up close with the new ones if we remake these!" (I don't have close-up vision problems.) In other words, I was made to feel like my feedback was invalid for way too many minutes. Sensing something was wrong with my prescription, I insisted to see Dr. Gormley to double-check my prescription right there. Logan ducked in back to check with Dr. Gormely, who didn't even bother to come see what the matter was in-person (even though he didn't appear to be detained with a patient). After talking privately with Dr. Gormley, Logan came out and held up to my eyes a couple sets of sample corrective lenses for me to look through. By trial-and-error with these sample lenses, we immediately determined that my prescription had been made in reverse: Instead of -0.5 diopters, it was made as +0.5 diopters because that was what was erroneously marked on my chart. In other words, I was made glasses for farsightedness, the opposite condition I had! Neither Logan nor Dr. Gormley ever owned-up to this mistake. I was told to come back in 10 days after the glasses were remade. I am certain that Dr. Gormley wrote my prescription down wrong in my chart. It would be an innocent, easy enough thing to do, to transpose or confuse a - with a +. However, instead of owning up to the backroom error, the mistake was swept under the rug and played-off like nothing happened. If I hadn't been so forceful in insisting the prescription was wrong, then Logan would've blithely sent me out the door with glasses that were incorrect and made my vision worse! It is untenable for a medical professional to make a mistake and not own up it. If Dr. Gormley had said, "I'm sorry, but I think I jotted your script down wrong in your chart when I saw you last, and now we need to remake these for you now," I'd still be a patient. As we placed the order for the re-made glasses, Dr. Gormley stood lackadaisically at the cash register and chatted with me about the remake process, but never owned up to either his mistake in the chart, or whoever wrote the eyeglass order down wrong. It will be the last time I'll see him. It's bad form to try to send a patient out the door complaining their new glasses make them see worse. read more

Went in for eye exam as new customer (BTW, one of the fastest exams I've ever had). Received new lens but they hurt my eyes, produced ghost images, and I couldn't see. So WSO did re exam my eyes and slightly adjusted the prescription at no extra charge. Got the new lenses and I was told to wear them for 2 weeks for my eyes to adjust. Did that - with sore eyes, headaches, and ghost images. The Dr. told me he removed the astigmatism correction from my right eye and that might be the reason it seemed off. I came into the store 2-3 times for adjustments. Nothing worked and they never tried to address the ghost images. I cannot wear the glasses for more than 5-10 minutes before my eyes/head start hurting. Fast forward to last week. I had my eyes examined across town. They also evaluated the suspect lens. Turns out the astigmatism correction was high in BOTH eyes. Well beyond what I needed. So I took the new prescription to WSO and asked for at least a partial refund. They admitted the prescriptions were very different and that they would get back to me. SO...they will NOT refund any money (it's NOT their policy to return money for errors), but they could produce yet another pair of lenses. NOTE: This information from my insurance company, who called them. WSO has NOT returned my call. I have not yelled or raised my voice; I was respectful but have not received this courtesy in return. They had 4+ chances to get it right and they never did. They made me feel stupid for not being able to see when THEY got the prescription wrong. Why should I trust them?!?!? read more

Just got fitted for glasses about five minutes ago. Was told right off the bat by the person waiting on me: "Could you please step back? I really don't like people invading my personal space." At the front counter. In front of everyone. Talk about make you feel like crap. And the irony here is that she needed to "invade" my personal space repeatedly in order to do the fitting - which would not have freaked me out were it not for the way she started our entire conversation. Man. That was weird and uncomfortable. I won't go there again. I chose them because they take VSP and I wanted to support a business in my neighborhood. I am so glad I found this place. I honestly can't believe anyone would have a negative thing to say. I've been wearing glasses/contacts since I was in 2nd grade, and this was by far the best experience I've ever had. The Dr was wonderful and so helpful, and I can't say enough great things about the staff, they are all so helpful and friendly. Every single person went above and beyond, helping me pick out the perfect glasses that would compliment my face shape nicely. I've never had that at any other place. I was so happy when I left this place that I convinced my sister to drive from Vancouver and get her eye exam/glasses from here, and she was just as thrilled about everything as I was. Ouch - so - needed lenses replaced because the coating that was never supposed to wear off - wore off. Great - replacement. Lens popped out end of day mid week (headache -can't see). Go in - got my lens placed properly - but new glasses - absolutely wrong Rx! Can't see out of them. Was questioned - did I have eye surgery? NO. Can I come back to see the Dr - NO? Why? My new glasses should have the very same Rx as my current lenses. This is now the third go-round for new glasses :( read more

Okay selection of frames but I did get good service here. I walked in and someone was there to help me pick out a frame within minutes. Scheduled my eye exam with the doctor for the following week and everything went smoothly. He was very friendly, as were the people helping me at the counter. They had to order my frames and said it would take 10-14 business days, but my glasses were ready in just 7 calendar days. Will go back again. read more

The fact that I'm looking for a new doctor made me realize I should probably write a review. My husband and I both went here for our last pair of glasses. It's been awhile since the appointment so I won't speak to that, but two years later we are both still unhappy with our glasses. One of the least professional doctor's offices of any kind that I've visited. The website is full of Wordpress filler text with little information about the doctor. They are scheduled to open at 10am, but were 15 minutes late today. Worst of all, I scheduled an appointment through email and received a confirmation for the appointment. When I showed up for the appointment, it had never been booked and the doctor wasn't even in the office. I showed the receptionist the email exchange, to which she replied "Oh yeah, I don't like doing it through email because it doesn't usually work. Someone else must've done that." The Eye Doctor himself did an OK job, but got my Rx wrong. The supporting staff did everything in their power to rip us off. From charging us full price for an eye exam that my insurance had already paid for, to claiming that lenses weren't covered on my plan, they must have ripped us off for nearly $1000. I had just arrived from California for a visit when the nose piece on my glasses broke off. After checking a few reviews I decided to try West Seattle Optix. The office and displays are nicely arranged. The waiting area is bright, clean and comfortable. The staff is very pleasant and professional. While Logan repaired my glasses I chatted with a patient of Dr Gormley's. She indicated after trying several optical offices this is the one she has settled on for her visual needs. When Logan returned the glasses were repaired and he told me there would be no charge. I came to West Seattle Optix for contacts and glasses. I've had the same prescription since I started wearing glasses at 6 years old, I've been told I have a tricky correction. I was satisfied with my initial appointments. Once I received my glasses I had trouble seeing with them and felt disoriented when wearing them but was told to try them for a few weeks. After wearing the glasses for a few days I took them back as I was getting headaches while wearing them. They had a new lens made for one eye and that seemed to help. I then ordered contacts and when I got the contacts they were so uncomfortable in my eyes and would go in and out of focus. I went to another eye doctor to have my eyes looked at while wearing the contacts and glasses made by West Seattle Optix. With the corrections they gave me I couldn't even see 20/40. I was advised that I shouldn't be driving with the corrections I had. I had a new exam done (at a different clinic) and now I am seeing 20/20 with my glasses and contacts. I didn't do my research regarding this place and it was an expensive lesson to learn, I spent close to $1,000 on glasses on contacts that are now useless to me. West Seattle Optix might be okay if you have a mild correction but if you have a more difficult correction I would steer clear. read more

The exam was quick and painless, and afterwards I was helped by a very friendly staff as I picked out lenses. They have a great selection and modern styles. I have been a customer of West Seattle Optix for 12 years. Dr. Gormley is friendly and helpful. I have never had an issue with the staff , although they have changed over the years, but what is most important to me is that Dr. Gormley has been a main stay. I get annual checkup for contacts and purchased three frames for glasses over the years. I work in West Seattle and it is convenient and the pricing is fair. Hate to be one of the haters, becauseI loved this place when I first started coming here years ago and yes, they have a great selection of frames! However, my last 2 experiences have been very disappointing. Both times the lenses gave me headaches and I didn't have clear vision. Had to have lenses replaced, thinking it was my fault somehow in not doing the exam correctly. 1st time, had 1 lens replaced but it had a different "tint" than other eye so had to get it replaced again only after lots of insistence. Also, frame was damaged (big scratch) and had to insist again on getting a new frame! 2nd time, same thing, and new lens has never given me clear vision. Additionally, I dropped off glasses with the nice leather case, and it wasn't returned with new glasses. Store insisted that I hadn't left it with them, and I just didn't bother following up. I do not recommend them to anyone. So disheartening to have an establishment that I truly had fabulous experiences with at one time disappoint me so much. What happened? read more

My old prescription glasses got mauled by a 5lb Yorkie who was chewing up everything in sight. I wear contacts except at night and whenever the circumstances call for a late night out. I looked all over Seattle for someone that had Oakley frames for prescription glasses. Alas, west Seattle Optix had them! Living a 10 minute bus ride away why not see what they had to offer? My wife and I met there and what to my surprise, a frame that I'd never seen nor would ever think of owning! Of course they were oakleys. I gave them the a try and immediately had to have them! Of course to my dismay, the lively associate helping me said 7 to 10 business days for them to arrive. Ugh, we have a wedding to attend within 7 days, but not business days so I was devastated. Got a call within 5 days and my glasses were ready! 10 minutes to make sure they fit correctly and now I don't have to worry about my contacts drying out!
