Worth the wait?! First any potential patrons need to understand two things going In, one, except for pop/bottled water, we're talking a BYO liquor situation. Thing #2, this is a ONE-MAN OPERATION. Yup, he's the waiter, the prep-cook, the chef, the front-end manager AND the 'cashier'. At least that's the deal on Thursdays when we typically go. Ultimately, the first point works in your favor, cuz with a little forethought, a small cooler and your favorite beverage, you will likely save you and yours at least $10. As for the second premise, our suggestion is to ask for timeframes early and often...then get comfy and DOUBLE those estimates. Hopefully your company (and/or your phone) will make the time disappear without notice, because it'll honnestly be a bit. Wes is a very busy man...and he tends to tell you what you wanna hear - the only things actually preventing a fifth Yelp star. Just know that the chances are quite good that it will have been well worth the wait. Mac-N-Cheese, killer. Steaks, juicily executed extremely well. Combinations of proteins always seem to mesh well, even in something as simple as a wrap. And just when you think you understand what it is that he does really well, he throws a chicken and waffle dish that blows away anything else in town, possibly any other such attempt at this iconic southern dish. (Pro tip, try a side of jerk sauce or BYO Tobasco.) Perhaps he has assistance on the weekends - one would hope so anyway, but this place definitely makes us appreciate hard work, good times and outstanding cooking. Great take out game too! read more

I'm on a work trip and needed some dinner so I found this place. The gentleman working the register is also the chef! It was a pleasant atmosphere and he offered a drink while I waited for my food. As others have noted this is a one-man show server Cook owner operator. Located in a very unassuming area strip mall next to a slot machine locale it's easy to miss. And for those that miss it they're missing out. I was feeling particularly hungry and went with the 18 ounce ribeye, mac & cheese, and asparagus. It was all cooked to perfection flavorful and with delicious side sauce sauces. I have noticed some of these reviews complain about the prices. For them I say you have other options. There's an outback steakhouse in town and you can get a steak there but it's an outback steakhouse steak if you want Quality, you go to Wesley's. So when we travel I'm always looking for someplace special to eat and this was the place on a recent trip to Bloomington/Normal area. Wesley is a one man show and it's so awesome so be patient with the wait time for food. Come for his Mac & Cheese but stay for all of the other options. The Lobster, scallop and shrimp ravioli is what I started with. It was incredible. I think you can add nearly 20 different options to your meal. I stopped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The place is small but clean, with a QR code menu and a straightforward setup. Wesley (yes, the namesake) seems to run the whole show himself, host, waiter, and chef, and to his credit, he pulls it off. I ordered the potstickers to start, followed by the ribeye steak with asparagus and potatoes. Everything came out well-seasoned, cooked exactly as requested, and in generous portions. You can tell he takes pride in what he's serving. Service was prompt and friendly. While most of the business appears to be takeout, it still works fine for dine-in. My only knock is that the soft drinks come in cans, and it'd be a nice touch to offer a glass with ice automatically. Prices are on the higher side, but with the quality and portion size, it feels justified. I'll definitely be back, next time with my wife and plan to try the house-specialty mac & cheese. read more

First, the food was absolutely amazing! The chef clearly knows what he is doing. If I lived nearby I would definitely come back. That said, there are a handful of other things that are just odd about this restaurant. They aren't deal-breakers, but I'd be remiss to not mention them so you can decide for yourself. The "waterfall" as it is called on the restaurants FB page is a large indoor fountain. It's nice and adds to the ambiance, but somehow I was expecting something more impressive from the description. It's also in a strip-mall so you can only get so fancy in that type of space. They don't have any alcohol. After the fact, I realize that there's no alcohol mentioned on the online menu, but that doesn't always mean there isn't any alcohol at all, just that there's a separate drink menu. The drinks they do have are literally generic plastic bottles of water and cans of soda. No iced tea. No glasses. He did bring us a bowl of lemons upon request with our bottles of water. The extra strange thing about no alcohol is that the counter is decorated with wine bottle corks and there are wine bottle decorations hung up on the walls. It was almost taunting us that there was no wine to drink. I've just never in my life encountered a restaurant with this level of menu that didn't serve alcohol, so it never even occurred to me to inquire when I called for a reservation. I had the 1/2lb snow crab, shrimp and fettuccine Alfredo special and my mom had the 6oz prime filet mignon with asparagus and sweet potato. The first serving of asparagus was a bit overdone and really stringy but when he served the food he told us he had already started some more asparagus and the 2nd batch was perfect. The filet was delicious and cooked exactly as she asked and my Mom ate every last bit of it (she would normally leave some edges or whatever if there was too much fat). The snow crab came out of its shell perfectly and tasted very fresh. The shrimp was super yummy. The fettuccini Alfredo was delicious- the best Alfredo I've ever had - very peppery, which I enjoy. My only issue was that some of the shrimp and some of the crab was lukewarm at best when it came out, so basically cold by the time I ate most of it. The air was on the chilly side in the restaurant, so that didn't help at all. I asked for melted butter for my crab and was given quite a tiny amount of melted garlic butter, which was actually yummy, but I needed to ration it or bug him again for more. It also congealed fairly quickly in the chilly air conditioning. Lastly, it seems like this restaurant is a one-man show. Which, if it is, I am honestly impressed, however it makes for somewhat lacking service when he is busy cooking the food and also taking to-go orders over the phone. I'd prefer him to be up-front about this situation, rather than apparently trying to pretend that it's not the case. I'd be more sympathetic from the start rather than feeling deceived. read more

The food we ordered was delicious. There are some regular priced items on the extensive menu but the meat must be really top of the grade because the prices are astronomical. Rated a 3 because we ordered 2 meals. One of which was fantastic and the other was actually pretty bad. This is NOT the place to order baked chicken. It was completely flavorless like two day old leftover chicken flavorless. So it may have been precooked and finished under a broiler. If it wasn't pre-cooked there was something wrong with it. The sides were both very good. However, my husband ordered the pork chops and Mac n cheese. It was delicious! Super juicy, very tender and seasoned to perfection. I'd go back again though because it looks like the specialty was steaks and pork. Nice little restaurant with young entrepreneurs which is what we like to support. read more

Now this place was extremely surprising. While traveling we googled "food" and this place popped up. This is the best hidden gym I've ever seen. I ordered the Salmon and shrimp combo and the salmon literally melted in my mouth. The grilled asparagus was absolutely delicious! You know those hole in the walls off the beaten path that have the best food. Yes, that's Wesley's Grill except it's not a hole in the wall. Nice interior, super clean including the restrooms and the service was impeccable, especially with my indecisiveness. We stopped in for lunch and had the ribeye and fried chicken sandwiches, and we've never had sandwiches taste so good. The sauces were in house made and yummy. My two sisters and I were looking for a place to have a meal on the night after Christmas and the youngest had experience with Wesley's Grill. What a cool little place! It has the relaxed look and demeanor of a sandwich shop - but the food is HIGH END and top-notch! I had an amazing NY strip steak, perfectly cooked with delicious sides. They also offer other steaks, whole lobster and other seafood and chicken dishes and it appeared they're well-known for their mac 'n cheese. If you want liquor or wine they have a reciprocal agreement with the bar next door ("Lucky 7s"); you can start a tab there and "Lisa" will automatically come back to Wesley's to refill your bar order. Great find - Wesley himself runs the whole operation, including taking table orders. Support small business people! read more

I really wanted to like this place, but was sorely disappointed. Maybe they were just having a bad night, but I am unlikely to give it another try. We waited well over an hour for our food even though my husband and I were the only customers for the first hour we were there (with reservations at 6:30 pm on a Friday night). When the food finally arrived, it was definitely not worth the wait. We both ordered the NY Strip medium rare with Mac & Cheese, and a side order of shrimp. The steak was super fatty, basically raw on inside, and absolutely scorched in the outside like it had been dropped directly onto flaming hot coals. The char on the outside overpowered the taste and made it almost inedible. The Mac & Cheese had a nice flavor but was also overcooked to a crisp. The cheesy sauce dried up and a lot of the macaroni formed a crispy crust that stuck to the sides of the dish it was baked in. At least the shrimp was good. I hope for their sakes they work out whatever problems they had in the kitchen that night. read more
