"Denver's Best Pancakes"? I'll be the judge. Verdict is: YESSSS! My husband is a pancake connoisseur and with Wendell's boasting the title of "Best pancakes in Denver", I knew just the place to meet my mother-in-law for a breakfast date! We arrived just after 9:30 to a bustling Tennyson St filled with folks who clearly had the same idea we did! After circling the block, we snagged a spot out front to park just a few short steps away from the entrance! Parking in this area is a bit tough, but once you see a spot, snag it! Beware - the nearby businesses have parking for their customers only - which many people fail to see - so just FYI! My mother-in-law was already seated a cozy booth in the rear near the window and to my surprise, the space wasn't packed! The space itself is super unique with exposed brick, bright white walls, cozy booths and a large oak booth across from the massive community table! It exudes all the best touches creating the perfect vibe for brunch! Brunch isn't brunch without 3 different beverages, so I started my morning off with hot coffee, water and a spring cocktail - the Elderflower Spritz! Beautiful and floral and light - the perfect sip! Our server, who name escapes me now, was beyond friendly, welcoming and sat right down with us to discuss the menu, specials and everything in between! She knew her stuff, cracked jokes with us, had our coffee never see the bottom of the cup and made our entire experience enjoyable! Now onto the food! Hubs opted for the Wendell Junior - featuring Two Eggs Any Style, Seasoned Hashbrowns, Ham and subbed toast for the famous pancakes! All I can say is WOW! The pancakes were dense with flavor but fluffy and light, was sweet but wasn't TOO sweet and absolutely delicious! We are OG pancake people in that we like just butter and syrup on top and this did not disappoint! I chose to nosh on a spring special - the Brisket Poutine which had Smoked Brisket, Seasoned Hashbrowns, Carolina Bacon Gravy, Fried Cheese Curds, Two Sunny Side Up Eggs - and YUM. I'm not a huge brisket girlie but it was crisp, light and all the flavors melded together juuuuuust right for one delicious bite! We also chose to sample the Chicken and Waffles which were oh so good. The chicken was spicy and crispy, yet sweet when mixed with the waffles - with plenty to take home! Look out Wendell - we will back!!

I was a little nervous walking into Wendell's since I don't do much breakfast places and was immediately hit with loud music. They have one long bench table in the middle, the bar station on the left and tables in the back and right. There was a patio as well. We got there 30 minutes after our reservation 1, supposed to be at 12:30pm due to road closures at pride. They didn't seem visually annoyed but they went from 2 tables that were finishing to a giant table of 9 that wanted to add one. They close at 2 so understandable they were out of biscuits and specials by 1. The server was quick and memorized all 10 orders without a mistake. They had pitchers of water and small cups. The sever didn't rush but did explain the kitchen closing time. One person ordered incorrectly and they fixed the small issue quickly. Coffees were asked if another was needed. My soda refill was forgotten but they were cleaning and I got one later. We didn't leave until probably 2:10. We weren't lingering. They even split the bill all ways. The menu was online with no prices listed anywhere , which made me nervous but the Cajun Collard Greens was about $15 as a reference. It was very good! And good portion.

I've eaten here once, but it was good enough for me. The wait time was great, and there was no one else in the joint but myself. I took an empty cat carrier with me and they didn't even ask to visit so I'm guessing that cats are aloud? Small inside but at least it's clean.

I was visiting my cousin in Denver and she said we HAD to go to Wendell's for breakfast. We ended up here for more of a brunch and there was a bit of a wait (they're extremely short-staffed, so be patient with them!), but no worries, we just waited at the bar. I ordered a mocha latte while we were waiting, which was delicious, and we kept seeing these cinnamon rolls being taken to tables. They have a regular one and one that was tiramisu, but we went with the latter once we were seated. They served it warmed and oh my goodness, when I tell you that it melted in my mouth... So good. For my main meal I had to go with the chicken and waffle sliders, which is basically chicken and waffles in a smaller form. Although on the appetizer list it was a big portion so it was filling and enough for a meal. The waffles were fluffy and the chicken was juicy, with light (not hot) hot sauce and a good amount of syrup. Overall very good. Wished they were open on Monday's because I wanted to stop by for another latte, but will have to settle for another visit another time.

Cute little brunch spot! I went to Wendell's last weekend with some friends for brunch and we ended up sitting at the bar. I ordered the espresso martini and it was really good. We ordered a couple of dishes to share (French toast and the scramble) and both plates were awesome! I was eyeing the cinnamon roll and now after reading some of the reviews on them I'll have to go back to try them. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

This place was just OK...The patio is overall nice, Service was decent. I just think there are much better brunch places in Denver. I got the eggs benedict with hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were kind of crunchy, dry and I didn't like the seasoning, poached eggs were kind of cold and I just don't like it when a place season paprika on top of everything. The mimosas were just okay also. Nothing special, nothing great. I likely won't be back though.

We had the most incredible and intimate New Year's Day brunch here. They don't print the prices-- but trust that they are VERY reasonable. Lovely decor, even better food. The Jalapeño Bloody Mary is a winner. HIGHLY recommend!!

YUM YUM pancakes! I got the pancake of the day, and my husband got a pancake with berries and cream!

What a fun little breakfast spot! Wendell's prides themselves on being a "modern diner", and I really am feeling that vibe. When you walk in, there are booths and counter seating, and it feels spacious. It was nice out when we visited, so we opted for the outdoor patio, that had a trellis with lots of shade! The egg-man design is super duper cute, and the food lives up to expectations. We had heard Wendell's was known for their pancakes, so we had to give them a shot... I ordered the POW (Pancake of the week), and my husband ordered a standard pancake with Berries and cream. We weren't super hungry to begin with, but i'm really glad we only ordered a single-stack each - the pancakes are huge! You will not leave this place hungry... The pancakes are also cooked to perfection - buttery & soft, yet crispy. And there is a lovely dash of cinnamon that you can definitely taste. Stop by this place for a casual Sunday meal... or any day of the week, because they'll be open :) Welcome to Berkeley, Wendell's!

He set the tone right away! Warm, happy to have us there, easy to talk to. I mentioned to my friend that I was thinking about a bloody mary, and a minute or two later Ryan asked if he should get that bloody started. He'd caught it in passing conversation, not because he was hovering. That's a hard balance to strike and he nailed it all afternoon. The drinks were great. Nothing fancy on my end, a bloody mary, a shaken screwdriver. Not too strong or weak. Sounds simple, but a lot of bartenders can't consistently hit it! We all got eggs your way, simple stuff done well. The roasted fingerling potatoes were crispy outside, fluffy inside, super good!! The strawberry jam was giving homemade, but I didn't confirm. Overall, Ryan made the visit. Calm presence, good company, and there's nothing better than a brunch seat at his bar next to those big open windows!

Location (4 stars) This restaurant is downtown near the convention center. parking is pricy if you valet park at the hotel. Last year it was around $40. Parking in the lot across the street for $25 dollars Easter Sunday. If you use a walker, I would not recommend the parking lot across the street. Food (3 Stars) The Thanksgiving buffet is the best one. I would rate that buffet a (4). The Christmas and Easter buffet are pretty low key. There is a carving station (ham and prime rib). There is an omelet station. Dessert bar is decorative. Cheesecake was delicious. The warming station with potatoes, sausage etc. leaves much to be desired. The charcuterie station is sparse. They offer unlimited mimosas for an additional $25. Service (5 stars) Staff are extremely friendly. Cleanliness (2 stars) My only complaint, I saw a tabletop being cleaned off with a rag used to clean the chairs and then under the table on the floor and on to the next tabletop. I'm just a little picky about that. Especially since folks these days go commando and wear short attire, and you know their parts are on the chair and now spread to tabletops. Wiping up the crumbs off the floor with same rag simply through me over the edge. Atmosphere (4 stars) Spacious uncrowded environment. Nice decor. Bright with large windows.

I saw Former Saint on CBS News, and the menu and food looked incredible. In particular, that white chocolate blueberry cheesecake was something I know my hubby would look forward to all week! I loved the idea of local food and fresh homemade dishes. Sounds healthy, after a week of potential over-indulgence at other restaurant week venues. An additional bonus was that it is located right near the Denver Convention Center and the Performing Arts Center. This has become a dry spot for fine dining, with even the choices on Larimer Square growing more thin, giving rise to the inability to get reservations at favorites like Tamayo and Rioja prior to a show. I go to performances frequently with friends, and despite my rule to avoid hotel restaurants (Former Saint is in the Hyatt Regency), I thought I'd scope out Former Saint as a place to take my friends before the next symphony or Children's Chorale or ballet or broadway performance. I must say, the jury is still out. Former Saint was a Jekyll and Hyde of courses. Parking was not difficult (Yay, maybe I can park here prior to my shows, if I grab a bite first). There is a large garage, and the promise of validation from the restaurant. The ambiance of the restaurant is typical hotel restaurant. Booths, tables, old and a bit drab. Except for the bar. Oh, my! The bar has this BEAUTIFUL copper creation above it, adding so much industrial character to the space! I was in awe looking at it, as it appeared to bring craft suds to the bartender's taps. I didn't ask how it worked, as it wasn't clear how the beer separation and dispensing worked, but it was a great centerpiece and spectacle for the place. I do wish I had investigated more about this architectural marvel, and will do so if I return. For restaurant week, my husband chose the Lobster Ravioli, Ribeye, and blueberry cheesecake (as predicted). I chose the Gotham salad, roasted chicken, and key lime tart. The lobster ravioli was nice; my husband was surprised that it was a toasted ravioli, but enjoyed it. My salad was full of beautiful greens, pears, walnuts, and feta. No scrimping here! The dressing was light and sweet/sour. The pears were a bit unripe and crisp, to the point that I was having trouble identifying exactly what fruit I was eating, but other than that, the salad was beautiful, healthy, and ample. My husband's ribeye steak was a nice cut, done to his liking. Slivered hash browns were underneath with a nice green chimichurri on top and some sliced Fresnos adding a welcome kick to the dish. My chicken was delightful. 1/2 chicken on the bone, seasoned nicely, and with a pan sauce. The breast was super-tender and delicious. It came atop cheesy grits, which was a yummy substitute for a mashed potato. I also was served side salad of curly lettuce and fennel. I probably didn't need more salad, but I was glad to have the healthy side on my plate. I will say that this salad was over-seasoned. The chicken and grits were great, but the salad too salty. My husband ordered a glass of J. Lohr Cabernet, which was a very nice find on the wine list, as far as a pairing for his ribeye. That said, the glass cost $30! A bit much, I might say. The real detractor, unfortunately, was dessert. The blueberry cheesecake looked nothing like the beautiful creamy white cheesecake accented throughout by purple blueberries, which I saw on the CBS News clip. My husband was served a very small solid purple slice, overcome with whipped cream dollops. This cheesecake had been uncovered in the fridge too long, with sort of a skin on it. My husband ate almost none of it. My key lime tart was similarly over-adorned with whipped cream, although I had some nice raspberries on top. The tart also seemed overexposed to the cool air, with the thickening of a skin on top. It was a very disappointing way to end a nice meal, and belied the healthy, homemade, craft theme. High points of this experience include the well-crafted and healthy entrees, the fact that we could see the convention center right outside our window (i.e., the location is perfect for pre-event or -theater), the $3.00 validated parking fee, and that beautiful copper tap system. Will the pros outweigh the cons? Will we be back with friends? Time will tell.

I had the aqua profunda (cognac, St. George basil eau di vie, lillet rose, strawberry, lime, and absinthe). I also had the eight limb daiquiri (rum, Canada aguardiente, Thai tea cordial, lime leaf, and Maraschino).
