Of all my trips to Hertel I actually had never been here until a couple weeks ago. We walked in without a reservation on what I recall might have been a Friday night. I don't recommend doing that, but it was kind of a last minute decision. The wait was going to be pretty long and since it was SUPER crowded in the bar area and in front of the door we almost left, but then we got lucky and got a table instantly! I wouldn't count on that happening again but I am glad it worked out because the food and service were great. I heard that it was quite necessary to try a burger so that is what I ordered along with some onion rings and it definitely was delicious. I also tried their apple cider margarita per the suggestion of our waitress. The rim of the glass was dipped in caramel which is pretty much glorious. Though, the drink was super small, super strong, and relatively pricey. Will definitely be back next time we're around and will definitely make a reservation next time. read more

I am not very happy with the Wellington Pub right now. As a vegan I was very impressed to find that they carry the impossible burger. They do not have vegan cheese, but I've had the burger in the past and have been happy without it. The other day, however, I thought to ask about the bun and was very confidently told that it's not vegan. This is a huge problem. If you are going to advertise a vegan burger, it NEEDS to be on a vegan bun. I just don't understand. The worst part is that I've eaten it in the past assuming that it was vegan. If you're looking to try the impossible burger, go to Colter Bay. They cook it on a vegan fryer and have vegan toppings. read more

Love the Wellington Pub. All the food is great and the fish fry is second to none. Tried to order one last night to go. Called 25 times and let the phone ring 25 times each time. No answer. I came here last Friday wily boyfriend and my grandmother for a fish fry. I read some reviews of fellow helpers and decided to check it out myself. My gram loves a good fish fry and she's super picky and judgmental of anywhere I take her, one of the reasons I don't go out with her too much! My grandma and boyfriend both got the fish fry. The fish was huge! Side portions were hefty as well. I tried some of the fish myself because I didn't get one and it was super fresh and battered exactly the way it should be. After I had one bite I was disappointed that I didn't get one. The fish fry was about $11 and worth it all! I decided to go with a burger because o had been craving one. I did a build your own with bacon, mushrooms and cheddar cheese with BBQ sauce on the side. I asked for my burger to be medium rare, is deff came out rare but whatever I ate it anyways. I also got a side of their Mac and cheese because I heard people at the other table next to us say how good it was. The Mac and cheese is not good...do yourself a favor and go with s box of Kraft, you will enjoy it much better than this kind. I have eaten outside at the Wellington Pub several times. It's a great place to go in the summer and dine outside. The patio is large and has a large number of tables. Every time I go, I always order something different. All of the food has been excellent and never disappoints. On my last visit, I ordered the French dip sandwich and upgraded to fries. This was my first time upgrading and I wish I had always done that! They have fantastic fries. They are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were perfect. Even if you're not interested in eating a full meal, it's also a good place to go for a pitcher of beer with a friend and order a plate of appetizers. They also have great service. read more

I seriously have been eating at this restaurant at least once a year since it opened. I grew up in the neighborhood and the Wellington Pub and Bob and Johns next Store were a consistent staple growing up. This time we came here for my brothers birthday for lunch because he was headed to the Buffalo Bills football game after. There was 7 of us and we sat inside at a big round table in front. There were 2 servers working from what I could tell and it was busy. I had sympathy for them, along with the cook. The one came over gave us menus and took our drink order. Not gonna lie we were a loud table and I felt bad for the other patrons lol but all was good. No one harbored ill will. After she came back with our drinks we ordered a lot of food. In no particular order, chicken sandwich, chicken fingers, Mac and cheese, 2 orders of curly q fries, apple walnut salad, pot roast sandwich, grilled cheese, steak sandwich, the French dip, 2 orders of French onion soup, and stuffed peppers.....well there was 7 of us. Our food took awhile and my dad had to go to work so we asked the waitress after the soup came out if they could rush his steak sandwich to go. They did and my dad got his food and was able to leave with a good meal. Our food came out a short time after that. We were missing the chicken fingers which we told the server about. The chef had forgotten them before we could say don't worry about it they had dropped them already and they took them off the bill so we had them to go. That was really cool of them, definite plus. The Wellington is a classic Buffalo drinking establishment. The gentleman and I have visited numerous times. He had some Three Olives Watermelon with tonic once and he talks about it all the time because of how amazing it apparently was. They have a decent beer selection, and the staff is always friendly. We always go late enough (after dinner time), so they always let us sit in the dining room while we enjoy our drinks. I ordered some food once with some friends... chicken fingers and fries. Had dinner there last night with some friends. We got a table right away (around 7pm) but the people who arrived after us had to wait. We started with wings which were really good... crispy and tasty. I ordered a dinner salad which was also surprisingly good for pub fare. Romaine instead of Iceburg... I had the Honey Sesame Vinaigrette which was tasty. They offer a soda bread with cranberries and rye seeds at the table when you sit which was very different, but good. We all ordered Fish Fry... they have a "Junior" size, which was really nice. Still big but not falling off the plate. The french fries weren't fresh cut but they were good... the fish fry was terrific. Two in our party had the Buttermilk and Bacon Potato Salad... YUMMY! It was a pleasant experience... Try the pot roast sandwich! The last time we were there, my mother suggested I try the pot roast sandwhich. Normally I'm not a pot roast kinda girl, but this was pretty delicious. I ordered it with cheddar cheese. I also remember ordering a greek plate of sorts...with pita, olives, etc...which was good for a mid-afternoon snack when I was not overly hungry. I've been going to Wellington Pub since I was a little girl. The bar always seems to be crowded, but I can't remember more than a few times having to wait for a table. Craving fries at 11:00 PM and the only place open to serve them during the Italian festival Weekend. Man was I happy, I am Miss. Fries when I crave it no matter what time of day I have to get it. This being my first time coming here, I have to say it was really a nice chill place. The people were really friendly, even though I didn't get any drinks at the bar I still sat there to eat my fries. The fries were really good, not over fried or oily. This is a classic Buffalo bar/restaurant/pub. If you're in the area and you're looking for the quintessential Buffalo food staples (beef on weck, wings, etc.), this is a great place to go. The bar at night tends to have local yuppies, but try to grab an outside table if you can. It's a very "local" atmosphere but a decent place. They lose a whole Star because the table service is really lagging. Great late-night beer prices though. read more

I can vividly remember eating twice at Wellington pub recently. Once was after a very long night, and I was starving and the kitchen was closed, but the bartender was nice enough to give me chips and ketchup (don't judge me, I'm a simplistic person). The next time was last week. My boyfriend and I we're on our way to the North Park theatre and due to the terrible weather, and living around the corner decided to hit up Wellington Pub for a quick bite. As we browsed the menu, we both ordered something that we normally wouldn't and also that horrified me as a child, The Meatloaf Special".... what happened to me to think that meatloaf actually would be appetizing? This may have been the best decision I've made, in a long time. The meatloaf was so moist (hate that word, but needs to be used), flavorful and came accompanied by heaven sent gravy. The meatloaf was served with mashed potatoes and asparagus, which we're just as good. Although I've never had bad food at Wellington Pub, I wasn't expecting to be blown away by how good it as. Also the service was awesome. Will definitely be coming here more, and going out of my veggie, carb and seafood comfort zone. read more

Four of us had dinner last night at an indoor table. There is good separation, staff wears masks, practices good hygiene for the times, and are attentive. That said, it was my first time in a pub/ restaurant since March 2020 and Wellington Pub hasn't missed a beat. We had stuffed peppers, wings, beef on whack, Cobb salad wrap, and of course, a Friday night fish fry. Every thing was tasty, well prepared, and timely. It's kind of dark and dreary inside, but the service is warm and friendly. The menu has just about every sandwich and burger imaginable.... plus entrees and salads and chicken wings and soups and chili.... pretty much something for everyone. My friend and I both chose one of the daily specials: Sloppy Joe Sliders. OMG! They were like everything good about that quintessential elementary school favorite, but even better. Checked this place out last weekend after I heard they had a good fish fry. I think this place is old which would be why the restaurant was very outdated. We ordered two Moscow Mules and they were perfect, not too sweet. For an appetizer we ordered ten medium wings and they were amazing! So juicy and cooked to perfection, they were also huge! For my entree I ordered the Greek fish as an alternative to the fish fry. It was a large piece of white fish topped with black olives, white onion, and tomatoes. It came out extremely dry which was a huge disappointment, I think it would have been a lot better had it had a Greek dressing on it! They don't really have a healthy alternative to their side options so I opted for the potato salad and it had a smoked flavor to it that I really didn't like. The Wellington Pub was the perfect setting this afternoon for a small reunion of high school friends. They made us feel comfortable with a nice table near the window.. The waiter was very courteous and let us take time to view the menu. Many choices for lunch and my husband and I choose the Pub Club and it was delicious. Our friends from out of town enjoyed salad and a steak sandwich. Their salad portion is huge and they ended up taking a box home. Also they have vegetarian items for those watching fat and calories. The Wellington has a pretty big menu of the most delicious bar food in Buffalo. Although the prices seem a bit high to me, you get large portions, great service, and will leave full. My dining partner said it was the best burger he has ever had, and he is quite the burger connoisseur. The french fries were crispy, and the seafood chowder had large chunks of crab meat.
